+PossumCheckers That's really not the point of my comment though. I was informing him that Dustin didn't make that it's something he bought.
When I make things out of cardboard, I find that when you spray paint it, a lot of the corrugated lines of the cardboard show up, and really makes it look like it's made from cardboard. We are going from the illusion of something else, so I just coat it with a light stucco type paint, or just use thermoplastic. Thermoplastic is cheap and you really just need a hair dryer.

Honestly, watching in 2016 wishing Vinny would revisit some of these--like this one and the Sonic Screwdriver. It's OK, tho. I'll just do them using the techniques I've learned from Vinny and Odin.

Fun fact, the Ghost Trap canonically comes apart. The part with the handle and lights is the tray, and the part with the doors is the cartridge. The tray also holds the battery for the trap so it needs to be recharged between cleaning the trap and the next time it's used.
Remember when DIY prop shop was only Dustin? The old days. I wish he did the later episodes, too. And DIY prop shop will always be missed

We dress up annually as a family theme each year.. so excited to make this ghost trap! I wanted to find a way to put dry ice inside it to make it look like we “caught a ghost!” Thank you for this amazinggggggg DIY!

Your show is so cool. I'm a huge ghostbusters fan and I'm thinking of applying for super fan builds. Being young it's very hard to obtain merchandise but I have lots of it and a good knowledge of the movies. I'm quite proud to be a kid of the 2000's keeping the 80's alive

I recognize a rifle in the background that looks like it's from the movie Aliens. I would love to see that DIY. It was a great Sci-Fi movie & a very cool prop.
FAIL on my part! I see that was a recent build. Now Im going to go watch it!!!
Upgrade. Add some magnets to hold the doors in place. Again for super low tech excellent! Upping the bar might involve filling the end of the corrugated paper parts with bondo so they look solid. The fake switch is OK but you can find old devices at recycle places and just strip out the old switches, looks better. But Sh1t it's out of coregated paper and it looks really good so? Another "step up" is to use corrugated plastic (probably not what it is actually called). I have a bunch that was used for some event and then left for recycling. You can buy it but you can find it tossed out pretty easily. Use it exactly like the corrugated paper but it's stronger and doesn't fall apart if it gets wet.
That trap is so huge it could hold Gozer 😂
I once made a Darth Vader costume like this. The only piece that was not made with leftovers was the helm. But everything else i went to a motorcycle workshop asking for garbage for a proyect and got lots of interesting pieces

Portal Gun.
I made a DIY one years ago, but alas, it has since fallen apart. It was mostly foam and tape, with the central part being a clear mailing tube and a clear handle off a plunger, but it never held together the best. Would love to see how you do it, as I'd love to make a new one.
I would definitely recommend reinforcing that cardboard with all the extra weight you're putting on it, especially the bottom portion holding the wheels. It doesn't have to be much, just a second layer of cardboard panels glued to the inside would suffice. Also, painting the inside silver isn't necessary to reflect the light. Honestly, cardboard isn't smooth enough that silver would give you any sort of mirror effect anyway. Just paint it plain white so that all the wavelengths of light are reflected. Oh, and a set of simple flat refrigerator magnets on the insides of those doors would do wonders to keep them from popping open.
Awesome creativity there. No complaints about your skill. I just wish these things would be made out of something more durable, wood, metal, plastic... and maybe for added effect use a real toggle switch and just wire it up so that the lights come on when you flip the switch. It seems like that would be a much more rewarding and long lasting project because when it's all said and done, this is still just a cardboard box.

Can you do a DIY on a full Batman costume for halloween? My 3.5 year old son loves Batman and he always gets to dress up as Batman, but it's pretty expensive to buy a really good adult mens Batman costume. Even just the cowl and gauntlets would be cool too. Thanks man, love your stuff!

Loviing these prop shop videos! I'm sure if I attempted any of these, I'd get bogged down trying to get the things to 'work' and move. But as cheap diy projects that look good, you are doing a fantastic job. Inspired work, sirrah!

Do some cool guns from the Fallout series, like the Railway Rifle. It's my favorite weapon as it looks all cool and it's my favorite game, plus with Fallout 4 coming out in the near future I'm sure us Fallout fans will give it lots of views.
