    Great video. Excellent footage & commentary. Smart choices about knowing the terrain and your limits. You (along with many others) have inspired me to mount an expedition to the Thorofare next Labor Day! Only critique I have is to keep the camera pointed at the scenery while you talk. I LOVE that you have NO music. I love the backcountry for quiet. I don't need a soundtrack! I look forward to all your future videos!

      Thank you! Yes, I agree. I’m going to work on that this season locally and see if I can do better. Much appreciated.

    Great meeting you at Mr. Bubbles! This makes me glad our trip ended the day after that. Haha. Had similar weather to you up at Shoshone Lake with rain/snow all night that night. Rain stopped for us after that though and we had a rain-free walk out. Sad you missed Dunanda but it sounds like it was the right call!

      Great meeting you and your team too. It was a great day, just got a bit too cold and wet, and never got a chance to dry out. It ended well at least. Thanks and I hope to see you out there again one day :)

    Yes!! SO jealous I missed this trip. This was the first thing Maggie and I watched after getting home from our wedding. You always make great videos of legit wild trips. I TOTALLY relate to those food cravings you guys were having lol. You’re also spot on regarding the importance of carrying some trash bags. But man, that was some stunning fall scenery in the Bechler, with really cool wildlife encounters. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t crave being back in Yellowstone, so videos like this certainly help past the time. I’ll definitely watch this multiple times and you’ve once again put out one of the better and more immersive backpacking videos out there. Cheers Aaron!

    What a great video and a good time of year to go. I did the Heart Lake loop in July with my son. Yellowstone is a special place to backpack!

    I love you videos man, you know why? I watch all these young folks out there hiking 10-15-20 miles a day through amazing places. Then I realize I can't do that...especially carrying gear and food. Getting permits in places like Yellowstone or Glacier, etc is hard, because your campsites are not always available, and the rangers will give you sites further apart that you can handle sometimes. The Bechler is on my to do list!

      Thanks man! My 10-15 mile days are almost over. Looks like some canoe trips are in order soon 😎
      Thanks for the support!

      I toyed with the idea of hitting the Shoshone thermal area via canoe from Lewis lake up to Shoshone lake! Though canoeing around the south end of Yellowstone Lake would be amazing as well. @@longwildernesswalks

    • @longwildernesswalks
      @longwildernesswalks  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@fiziksgeek3562oh it is!! If you aren’t into climbing, take the 9-Mile down the east side to the southern side. It’s easier. If you want to see a bunch of thermals, come in from heart lake. Honestly, IMHO, that side of the park is hands down the best. Very few people want to hike 50+ miles to see this stuff, so you might not see anyone. I went 10 days out there a few years ago in October and didn’t see a single soul the entire time. It was incredible.
      No matter what, have fun!!!

    Fabulous video, Aaron. Immersive. I love hiking in Yellowstone but have not had the opportunity to do a backpacking trip there. Someday. I’ve watched all of your annual videos and have enjoyed each one. Thanks for taking us along!

    Glad to see that tarp came in handy! I got a similar one from gossamer gear a few months ago for the same purpose, I've not needed it yet but it's only a matter of time.

    Why not use 2 trekking poles? Especially with river crossings? Great video. I just went on my first BP trip at Bechler with a guided group. We went from Bechler Ranger station to Lonestar Geyser. I couldn't take as many pics or video, so I really appreciate your coverage of this area. Well done.

      It’s situational, and we used both during the river crossings after Mr Bubbles, if I recall correctly. Chad and I both had them for our tents. I’m not a huge fan of using them, unless necessary. Balance and core strength stuff. Those were three cold wet days. 😂

    Why were you yelling at the little black bear that was already moving away from you?

    • @longwildernesswalks
      @longwildernesswalks  5 месяцев назад

      He was heading right at me, after three or four yells he didn’t stop. It was raining hard and I didn’t think he heard me. Legit scared me too. 😂 when he finally noticed me he kinda freaked out. What you saw was the last 10% of the whole situation. Plus, the less I say about the situation the less my wife worries when I go. 😆

    • @longwildernesswalks
      @longwildernesswalks  2 месяца назад

      Easily. You only see a few people a day if you’re lucky. Most of the time you are in complete solitude.

      @@longwildernesswalks Awesome dude! Do you book certain camp spots along the trail, or just a "wilderness permit" and then it's first come first served?

    • @longwildernesswalks
      @longwildernesswalks  2 месяца назад +1

      @@EzeAdventurer I usually book many months out to get the good spots, but some you have to reserve when you walk up to pickup your permit. Once you leave the road, you see very few people. This year we're canoeing the Yellowstone Lake from the NE corner to the SE corner, then around Promintory Point, then down the SW arm, then back up the W side of the lake, then back across the lake, and up to the pull out point in the NE corner. Around 130 miles total. Easy days. The big difference is that YS Lake is deep, cold, and unpredictably dangerous if the wind picks up. Love your content. Let me know if you have any other questions. Peace!

      @@EzeAdventurer You're also at 8000' of elevation. So the weather is always a factor more than normal. Highs in the 60's and 70's with lows in the 20's and 30's F.

      We're also planning a 14 day trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota next year. Lots of portaging, and ~180 miles of travel total. Very few people, etc. Just tossing that out there.

    Love this video of your trip. Not so much all the food talk towards the end, kinda negates the experience. Too much of your enjoyment of that last leg focused on that instead of soaking up the last bit of the natural beauty.

    • @mmoutdoors1
      @mmoutdoors1 8 месяцев назад +1

      Not sure if you’ve ever done a lengthier backpacking trip, but it’s part of the experience to crave food towards the end of the trip. Backpacking food gets old haha
