- In this video we look at upgrading the front seats on our project Land Rover Discovery 3 / LR3 from base SE spec manual seats to electric leather heated seats. We look at the wiring changes needed to make the seat work. This should also allow the same conversion on a Range Rover sport and also allow you to fit Range Rover Sport seats in your Land Rover Discovery 3 /4 ( LR3 LR4 )

Such a great video. I’ve managed to get the drivers side working, these are going a VW T5 by the way. I cannot get the passenger side working though. Do you know what the equivalent wires are to the red/white and black from the drivers side?
So could I just powered the heated element and place in a switch which I could put down the side?
Lastly, I want to permanently ensure no side air bag goes off. How do I disable that or do I need not bother as it’s not connected to a plug.

Such a help this video.putting these seats In my transporter,drivers side is in but I am struggling with power and negative wires to power passenger seat.any ideas ?
As usual perfect description easy to follow. Carried out this mod now trying to sort out the heated element of the conversion. I have fitted control unit . Just require the loom between the control fan unit with heated seat function down to plug in foot well. Have you got that far yet Simon.

@@L663 well sure you have shared enough info over the years to me so I will keep you informed and let you know how I have got on and how i did it.
Seat track sensor may have something to do with the airbag. Maybe if the seats all the way back the airbag uses a full charge, otherwise a semi charge, perhaps.

I seriously doubt that there is any controllable charge, it's all or nothing when the explosive device is ignited.

Any chance you could find out if the wiring would be plug and play if upgrading from Discovery 3 non folding, no puddle light door mirrors to Discovery 4 2014 folding door mirrors? Cheers 😊
Yesssss! The video I needed to see. My seats have everything but the heated functionality. This means I just need to swap out the "climate control" buttons to the ones with the switch an get new seats. Hooray

Bin the memory module off and adapt the switchs from another vehicle much easyer and your able to use the seat functions correctly I did this on my base 7 seat discovery 3 when fitting discovery 4 seats as I diddint want to faff about have 0.5 seconed power pulse before the module realised the can line was not complete
I was considering just by passing the mem module - no reason to change to switches from another car. I could do a video on that ... would not be too tricky i dont think - just wire up like passenger seat.

@@L663 How do i do this, i have a disco 3 with upgraded seats. My passenger seat works perfectly (including the heating element) but my drivers seat does what yours did in the video and pauses until you stop and start again. Also, my heating element in the driver seat doesn't work. I am wondering if these are related? Whats my options please

Someone got the seat heater to work? I have the correct panel purchased but can't find an instruction how to connect. By default there are no wires behind the panel to connect the heating.
I managed to do it . With Simons permission I made a video for him on my channel.

Just done this and thanks for a great video guide . A lot tighter to fit in a commercial as the bulk head makes life a bit harder and loads of supports to strip out to get to the seat bolts.Did you ever get any joy finding plug in the dash for the heated seats ? We got the control panel but couldn't find plug 4 anywhere. Also to note our drivers seat exactly as you showed but passengers seat slides in a fully fluid motion back forward up and down. Thanks for a great guide.

So in theory putting seats in that had heater elements into a non heated vehicle you would also need the hvac controls and it’s plug n play after that? Granted the original seats were electric to begin with?
Hi! Great video. Did you find out the problem with the driver's seat electricity error? Have the same problem on my LR4. The seat only runs for about 1 sec at a time and must release the switch and press again .. thanks for all the tips.
I do think it needs to be enabled in the software.

Hi bud. Do you have a diagram for fitting d4 memory seats in my d3 its currently has manual seats.. im not fusses about the memory settings working just want to adjust the seat.. its strange because the passenger seat was plug and play but the drivers seat wont work.

Hi there - Did you ever get to connecting the heating elements? I have a D£ in which the previous owner did the seat swap and control swap, but there is no cable in place from control to seat. Hoping to find the spare cable somewhere!
If you change the Climate control panel, would the heating work as well for Discos without heated seats? Technically all the wires are there so it should but if someone could let me know I would appreciate it.
i have some LR2 seats with memory, trying to fit them into a Toyota LandCruiser 79 series. today i hooked the seats up to power, and still had the same problem the seats only moved 1/2inch at a time. how did you get around that????
Have you tried the same in a LR discovery sport as trying to do at the moment and guessing i need to find the positive for the memory function to be able to power these up in the same way you di in the video but cant seem to find decent wiring instructions
We have not tried this but will keep our eyes open for some seats
Managed to do it on mine now roughly the same just need to make sure you.power and earth to mem module switch unit and 8 way motor unit. Does the same as in only moves a little at the time
Might try it on another spare set that does not have a memory module and see if that works better
Great Video! We are struggling to fit some Discovery 4 Leather NON memory seats into our project Disco 3. We dont have the grey plug you had on the base of the seats. Could you do a video fitting D4 seats to your other project D3?

This video has been really helpful, do you know where the other end of the wires are for the heated seats to plug into the back of the centre console under the radio? (Where have Landrover hidden them?)
For anyone wondering, the answer to getting the d4 heated seat working in a d3 , is the controller is in the seat in a 4 and in the car in a 3. To fix you need to require the elements and temperature sensor in the same way they are in a d3 to remove the controller in the seat

Did replacing the heated seat controls work? I have electric seats and no heated seats, but I have 2 electric seats and a control unit available. Would like to know soon as possible if that's all it takes.

The white red wire to plus ➕️ it's on separate plug on its own,don't remember colour of the plug ..
Hello i have inquiry about Range rover sport 2020 , my car V6 has fully electric seats with heater but with out cooling fan so i am planning to replace the seats with another secondhand seats that has ventilation cooling system (FANS ) ,, my inquiry is , do i need to do wiring job , or it is ready to plug and play ? i believe i need reprogram the system and that is easy but i am wondering if the wiring sockets already installed in the car ! i would appreciate if you have any information in this regard ,thanks
Hi Ahmed - i think you need to change the CCF files so you get the menu on the car screen for cooling - the cooling is from the aircon so i guess there are ducts in the seat. A friend did this upgrade on his Jaguar and it just plugged and played with a CCF change so you may be lucky !
@@L663 thank you for reply , i can do CCF files as i have computer to reprogram the system , but the important point , if the V6 has the full seat wiring pluges so i can plug the V8 seat which it has the extra plug for the cooling ducts ,, have you seen any diffrent bettwen V6 and V8 in the base wiring down the seat , i mean the main wiring coming from the car body , not from the seat ? kindly highlight me if any , thanks

Check your abs sensor. It triggers suspension fault when its damaged or faulty

Not sure - there are a few things needed - Fuse / element in seats / wiring / control panel. As my car has this already i am not sure what parts you have / dont have.

@Simon Jefferson I have fitted the rear seats "successfully" I have tried to install the front ones, the screw positions and the connectors are identical, but after pluging in the connectors, the seat is completely dead. I noticed that some of the cables do not match/are missing. My current seats have the electric tilt, everything else is manual.

Interesting - it could be the motor or i think there is a limit switch in the circuit somewhere... i can see this would be a pain !
Hey guys I’m installing L320 rang rover seats into a series 3 Land rover, I just want the front back up and down tilt functions only, how do I power it up, I have a yellow orang blue grey and black plugs, any tips would be great
Hey mate, I'm doing the same in a series 2a.
The black plug will power seat control switches. So you would need to disconnect the front/back switch to disable it, or just only use the tilt button.
Any pictures of your installation?
Hi I worked it out it’s the same as the connection in the video the black plugs takes the positive and negative grey plug joins to the black and the purple grey wire takes a 5amp positive, everything works up down back forward up and down

The bursts of movement is a common problem with this upgrade. I think the problem is all about the red wire needing connecting up, but not proven it
