Best repair video EVER! Showing the broken ring side by side with the good ring tells it all (clip at 7:00 minutes). Congrats on not dropping those tiny c-clips when re-installing them. This seems to be a common issue. Sadly, it is not a repair for the faint hearted. I will be happy to send it to YOU if you care to do another video repair!
Glad it helped! I have since replaced the Breville with a Rancilio Silvia and haven't had a single issue. The Rancilio has nice stainless steel and copper components, not plastic like the Breville...
Excellent video. I'll wager, judging from that plastic part you replaced, MANY of the views were folks suffering the malady you just repaired. Kudos for your honesty in pointing out the sheared cables. Lesson learned by you...and a bonus gift to viewers. Well done.
excellently done. looks like a machine worth selling before things go wrong. it has took much plastic inside doing a fabulous job but not for long. I just had one given to me with an internal water leak and was wondering how to open it up. thanks for posting!
Well done. Great video. I had the same issue but it was leaking considerably worse. Have put up with it for last 6 months and finally decided to change the part. I followed your steps bar pinching the wires at the front. At start up the temp would only go to 26 degrees and I realized I could not hear the pump. I filled the boiler with a syringe and restarted. Still no joy. Looked like the main pump was gone. Checked all wiring and connections. Everything looked fine. Restarted, pressed all buttons. Ran the steam for 2 mins then back to main pump. A different noise and bingo, the main pump kicks in. All good, leak gone, main pump operating. Now I have one fault left. The steam boiler has a leak where the hot water is bubbling out of the top from one of the sensors on the right as you look at the machine from the front. Water pools under the machine and I need to occasionally mop it up. I check the red/pink o'ring and it looks intact so I not sure how the water is escaping. The machine trips every few days, must be because the water is getting on some of the electrical. Kind of dangerous. The next machine I buy will be a tried and tested Italian where the internal design has not changed for years. Not happy with the machine at all.
Mate awesome video! I've got the newer BES920 and the exact same leak. I presumed it was just the gasket and didnt even know the collar was the likely problem. Normally send it to the appliance repair guys in Melb but might try this one myself. Thanks for the walk through.
The machine i learnt latte art on. Kept it clean all the time like a supercar since it was red in colour. i bought it around 70% off (w/ smart grinder included!) since its was superseded model at the time and the last stock. This is an excellent coffee machine.
This video was helpful because I’ve started to experience a similar problem with my CE CAFE semi-auto expresso maker which appears to be a variation of a Breville design likely manufactured for GE by Breville. My machine has a built-in grinder to the left of the portafilter and drips of water have started to appear from it when expressing shots. Unfortunately the parts appear be proprietary to the GE machine and not available on its parts web site or other sources. Customer Service at CAFE didn’t seem to understand the nature of the problem or the steps needed to fix it so I wrote a letter to the head of the GE CAFE appliance group to seek a solution short of replacing the entire unit which is what Customer Service suggested.
I ended up selling this machine and bought a Rancilio Silvia. Far superior machine and spare parts are readily available (in the unlikely event something should fail...)
Excellent video. Thank you so much. I have the same machine. For years it has worked perfectly but recently the temp. has increased to 95 degrees and the light flashes. Is there a fix? If I run water through the group head the temp drops and usually stops at 93 deg. Help??
Years ago I toyed with idea of buying Breville Infuser. I remember staring at exactly same plastic collar and thinking, umh, cheapo DeLonghi EC145 has metallic collar so this isn't going to be upgrade. Later I got simple Italian made brass boiler no electronics thing and it meets my simple needs. Nice to see I hadn't lost my instincts.
Mine was leaking from the bottom of the water tank holder. Despite multiple conversations with Breville they were of no help. They wanted me to send the machine in for a $275.00 review which would just cover the initial review and then they would charge to fix the thing--all due to a washer on the tank that leaks. They would not fix the tank or allow me to simply buy a new one. I bought a Jura and have been very happy.
Those 2 screws by the group head won't budge at all for me, I am worried I'll ruin the thread. I am sweating trying to remove them and they won't budge at all. I have a long Philips screw driver in there and am putting as much pressure to secure it but it just won't loosen! :\ (I have a long 1x4 philips screwdriver) Is there a trick to this or something? nobody else (I've run a google search) has this issue at all. What gives?
Thanks for the vid, you’d think they would design it better for ease of maintenance, especially when they use plastic collar that requires replacement regularly
And the worst part is that the plastic collar can rarely be found available... I am disappointed with the quality of service by breville not being able to provide replacement parts to their customers. It took me almost 8 months to get a replacement group gasket for my machine.
I wonder if this collar is plastic in some of the cheaper models like the duo temp pro? I never had this issue and I owned the machine for many years. So weird that it's plastic...
Cheers, I believe Breville stopped making the gasket as a spare part. Now you have to purchase the whole group head assembly... I ended up purchasing a Rancilio Coffee Machine which is far superior. Check out my video on this in my Channel.
My machine after descaling the temperature only goes up to 159 any idea what’s going on it was working perfect and then ask to discount and this happened
Breville no longer sell the Collar separately. You will need to buy the whole Group Head Kit which comes with the Collar. Depending on your model year, the newer Group Head Kit has a deeper Collar and hence the Group Handle has a notch in it to accomodate this...
Wow given how hot the grouphead gets I'm surprised it's made from plastic and breaking those cables is definitely something I would do. In fact it wouldn't be a repair for me if it didn't take twice as long
I ended up selling my Breville and bought a Rancilio Silvia and haven't looked back. The Rancilio has stainless steel or copper fittings, much simpler, neater and easier to service (as well as much more durable and reliable).
You can’t get much of any parts for these dual boilers anymore... mine worked great for 3 years though, but lately I’ve been macgivering to fix the trouble pieces...
I'm not sure... I have since switched to a Rancilio Silvia Coffee Machine which has copper piping. Much more stable and durable. I have a video on this new Coffee Machine on my channel.
I'm attempting to fix a similar issue with my BES870XL. Unfortunately I can't seem to be able to budge the front panel up. Anybody else have this issue?
Hey NJS. Great video and solution! Any tips on where we can buy these parts? Im thinking especially about the group head collar. They're incredibly hard to find online!!!
Hi Quicez, unfortunately the Group Head Collar is no longer available. You have to purchase the complete Group Head Assembly with new Group Handle to fix it now, not a cheap fix. I ended up selling my machine for 2nd hand spares and purchased a Rancilio (you can check out some videos of this machine on my channel). The Rancilio is the best coffee machine I have owned and spare parts are readily available.
Does this machine and/or the 920xl always make that “tick tick tick” sound heard at 11:21? This sounds so odd... the 870xl definitely does not make that sound.
Hi, Thank you so much for uploading the great video and it is really helpful for breville dual boiler coffee machine users. I also have coffee leaking issue. After watching your video I managed to open the machine, pulled two sensor probes and wires off then removed the coffee boiler, found that the plastic collar has damaged. However I still am using the coffee machine. Now, I have got a plastic collar insert but I am not able to remove those two sensor probes from coffee boiler, both probes looks like its stuck. Do you have any idea how to remove that? Another issue is 'Valv' error when attempting to descale my machine. Are those probes heated and stuck due to any reason? Is that why the valve error occurs and its not able to do descaling? Thank you for your time.
My machine leaks from the back water container at the seat where it sits on the machine. Any suggestions? So when the container is filled with water it just leaks when it is sitting there.
Hey mate, great video! Mine is actually leaking somewhere else. The pressure gauge hasn't worked in sometime and the machine actually leaks into the spare parts tray that is stored behind the drip tray. Thought I'd check if you've had any experience with this issue :)
Hi Linton, my guess would be to check if the o-ring is installed correctly on the hose which goes into the Pressure Gauge. This may explain why the Pressure Gauge isn't working and there is water leaking into the tray...
Thanks a lot mate for taking the time to explain the possible issue... as much as i feel Im a 'hands on fix it' person... I think I will send it in for repair :) I couldn't see what was wrong and all pipes seemed to be connected correctly. Im sure someone who knows what they are doing will fix it in no time :) Thanks again for your swift response
@@NJSInstructional Well, considering it's a $1300 machine retail, maybe make the double walled baskets optional, and put the 440 bucks retail into a metal version of an apparently critical part, eh?
I just opened mine because the steam boiler piping developed a leak. It seems there are a bunch of metal parts where the 900 had plastic. I took some photos: photos.app.goo.gl/62CxotxoSN2yYhAQ8
Hello! I have a problem with the portafilter and filter of my bes920xl. I put the ground coffee, put the portafilter in the group head, adjusting normally, I serve coffee without any problems or losses of any kind ... when I take out the filter holder, the filter is stuck in the head and it is difficult to remove it ... what could it be?

Thanks. I've kept my old Breville in a box for years with this problem. You have prompted me to drag it out to add to my list of projects.

Glad I could help!

Really informative! However I can't find anywhere to purchase the group collar that you showed in the video. Are you able to share a link?
Just saw your reply to Quicez :(
Thanks for your video. How about water is not coming out from the group head? That other works well but it doesnt extract my coffee well
Is there any plastic tube in the machine, that is in contact with hot water?

where did you get the parts? and isn't boiling plastic leech chemicals into your drink?
It's hard to get spare parts from Breville now... I ended up selling my Breville and bought a Rancilio Silvia.

Great video. and I was wondering here did you get the parts from?
Thanks Rain Liu. The parts are from Ebay AU from a seller called del-squeeto. Great service and price.
Can anyone tell me what kind of phillips screwdriver size is needed to remove the front two screws next to the group head?
No 2, but you need a long shaft, like 6 inches or 15 cm.
My machine leaks from the back water container at the seat where it sits on the machine. Any suggestions? So when the container is filled with water it just leaks when it is sitting there.

much thanks for your useful efforts< if you pleased i can't connect water pipes to tank
Awesome. Thanks
Curious...does the newer BES920XL have a metal version of the part you replaced, or still plastic?
Good question, since then I have done it again but the new one is thicker and requires a new group handle. Still plastic though...

I suppose my answer comes a little late, but your silicone gallery is worn and the filter basket sticks to it. Easy and inexpensive repair.
@@mhaagmans1 had this issue before. Had to change the inner shower screen and it was fixed
