Dimash, THE greatest vocalist of ALL time, this was 2017, you should hear him today, his lower registers are to die for as he’s got older! The morning after this performance was aired on this show for already famous professional singers Dimash needed bodyguards! Dimash is from Kazakhstan, here he’s 22. He was invited to perform as a wildcard, when a Chinese singer had to drop out at the last minute. His performance was downloaded 600 million times in China.
Today, he has millions of fans from all over the world and regularly plays solo concerts to audiences of over 35,000 people. He won’t sign a contract with the West as he wants to be in control of his own music. He’s a brilliant multi-instrumentalist and a fantastic composer and is currently in his final year studying for his Doctorate in Musicology, already having two university degrees in Classical and Contemporary Vocals and a Masters degree in Composition for which he received a perfect score.

In 2017 Dimash was invited to participate in a contest for Asian singers in China. He was 22 years old and the youngest participant. He sang among others this song in French. It was such a success that he had become world famous from this contest. Today he is a true celebrity in Asia and is increasingly approaching the West with equal success.

This song is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight in 2017 (The Singer).
The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' (1978) and is known in the English-speaking world as Tycoon (1995). Music: Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon (French original text). The English adaptation is by Tim Rice.
That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
The competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day bodyguards were at his door and now he is a superstar but without airs... just our Dimash.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to RUclips ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. Won).

This was DIMASH's first performance in this contest and no one from China was prepared for what they heard. Over 600 million Chinese shut down their internet trying to find out about him. The following day he was a super star in China and needed bodyguards everywhere he went. Everyone seemed to know who he was. The rest is histroy, he is even better now than this performnce, has many millions of fans world wide and sell-out concerts also.

SOS is Dimash masterpiece!! It is an existentialist song, about ups and downs in life, depression and death, when you feel you don’t belong here.
The Singer , it was a Chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. Dimash is a world class artist from Kazakhstan, turned 29 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, he also performs in concerts with the famous Ukrainian/Russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition. He started his doctorate in Musicology.He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respectfully turned it down to pursue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 15 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. He is kind, humble, generous and modest, very elegant and very tall, Dimash is 6ft 3, 1/4.
Dimash recently moved to Los Angeles for the completion of his Doctoral Studies and dissertation.
His Dears, as Dimash calls his fans because we are so dear to him and very loyal, number over 70 fan clubs in 120 countries globally and number in the millions, probably you will soon be one of us Dears.

On January 14, 1986, the famous French singer and politician Daniel Balavois died in a helicopter accident in the African desert. He left behind many wonderful songs. But among them there is one that continues to be sung by both famous and beginning singers: “The SOS signal of a desperate person.”
For a long time later, the song could not find “its” performer, until Gregory Lemarchal (1983 - 2007) sang it.
It was in his performance that this extraordinary piece entered the history of music.
All of France knew about Gregory's fatal illness, and this song in his version acquired an even deeper and more tragic meaning. Gregory passed away into eternity with her, in 2007. He was 24 years old.

Try Stranger next. It is English and epic. But anything the ‘dears’ suggest will be amazing. His concerts are three and a half hours long consisting of Dimash singing styles from opera to rap. He dances, plays instruments, chats and jokes with the audience, gets them all to sing with him. He is charismatic and dynamic on stage, very humble, respectful, kind, loving, intellectual, hardworking, patriotic, and humanitarian off stage, I’ve been to three overseas concerts of Dimash, so far and I’m 78 from U.K. worth every penny for the fantastic experience. Glad you are spreading the word.

This Voice in China contest is for Chinese performers only. Never before had a foreigner attended there. Dimasz got an invitation to participate from the organizers and long negotiations ensued. In the end he got a wild card to participate but without the possibility of taking first place. What we see in the video is Dmash standing on the first day of the competition, as the first performer in front of 500-hundredth audience, who are also jurors. Everyone is waiting in suspense for his performance because they don't know each other.

Dimash is a 29-years old singer from Kazakhstan and believe me, you’ve seen nothing at all. In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly anyway😅). However, if you include the notes he has sung live in his concerts so far, you get almost 8 octaves (7.7 from vocal fry C1 (B0) to the whistle register D8; this note is no longer on the piano). At least that's what he's shown us so far. And that in all registers.
His voice is the result not only of his God-given talent, but also of his almost 25 years of hard daily training. From the age of 5 he attended music school in his hometown of Aktobe. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. Mainly classic and pop, so he created a new crossover genre. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. The latest songs (from Tokyo Jazz Festival in November 2021) are Ikanaide in Japanese and at his concert in Almaty on September 23, 2022 he sang a new song in Spanish (about 7 languages in one concert!). And at his concert in Yerevan on April 29, 2023, he sang an Armenian folk song for the first time (it has to be about 15 or 16 languages so far).
He sings no mainstream and is a completely independent artist. He is managed by his father Kanat, who founded his own company "DimashAli Creative Center". The logo can be seen at the beginning of many of Dimash's videos. Maybe that’s the reason you never heard of him yet. He doesn’t sell his soul to a music label. He doesn’t want to be dictated by money when he has to sing what, when, where and how.
Many of my favorite songs are in his native tongue. He is a nice, intelligent, respectful and humble person. Sometimes he also can be a little bit goofy, and I love it❤️. He respects people regardless of their original, religion or profession. He truly loves his homeland Kazakhstan and his people with all his heart and always shows it with pride in many of his songs, concerts and interviews. During his concerts in Dubai, Düsseldorf and Prague in 2022, before he performed his song War And Peace, he told the audience he loves all people in every country. And there are no bad nations (only bad leaders). And I absolutely believe this.
His concert in September 23, 2022 was in Almaty, Kazakhstan was so amazing and it lasts almost 4 hours. Believe it or not but he really gets better and better. Every time you think you know him and his art, you realize you are so wrong.
He's very spiritual and thankful for the gift God has given him. But he also works very hard to constantly improve his vocal skills.

SOS is a song in the rock-opera „Starmania“ from 1978. The first who presented this song was the French singer and songwriter Daniel Balavione.
SOS was the first performance of the China competition (in 2017) and was his first appearance in this show. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. The song is very famous and popular in China. The audience already knew what to expect, but were very surprised when Dimash raised the pitch three times. Vitas but only once.

I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional.
BTW the audience is also the jury.
During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰.
I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. I think what's happening today in the world worries him a lot.

Thank you for all the information. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to learn of the story of the character in Starmania who sang SOS. I read the Wikipedia article on it and it gives an overview of the story line of the play, but no explanation of why the character had the feelings portrayed in the song. I also found a video of the play online, but that song was blocked for some reason. When people ask me the story behind the song, I can tell them about Dimash's reasons for singing it, and about gregory lemarchal and why it was the perfect song for him. But i can never tell them about the original character's motivation. If you know, I'd appreciate whatever information you can share.
@@RbL2199 I'm sorry that I can't help you properly. I faced the same problem some time ago. I wanted to know what this musical is about to find out exactly what this song means. I've been scouring the internet like crazy even asking other dears if anyone knows more. Unfortunately we only found general information. What I once read was that the character who sings this song ends with "Sleep child, sleep" was crying for his girlfriend who is lying dead in front of him after a suicide. When you hear the original song by Daniel Balavoine, the interpretation is very different from how Dimash sings it.
What I did find, however, was an excerpt from this 1989 musical starring Norman Groulx. Maybe this can help you. I also find this version incredibly emotional.
