Germany and Holland are two totally different countries. In Holland we speak Dutch, and we are Dutch. The capital of Holland is Amsterdam. In Germany there are Germans. They make this food, we never heard of in Holland. 😊
I made my Blueberry Dutch Baby this morning it it was WONDERFUL! Chef John, I have to say that I've made a number of your recipes and every one of them came out great. Thank you SO MUCH for all you do!
Your original video is why we never go more than a week in our house without my wife making a dutch baby. We used to have them for breakfast every day, for well over a year, so she's got hundreds under her belt now. My taste-buds thank you, good sir!
Pennsylvania Dutch boy here. In the early 18th century, basically all Germanic language speaking people were called "Dutch", whether they spoke German, the language we now call "Dutch", or any other Germanic language. The Pennsylvania Dutch people are either from Germany or Switzerland originally depending on which wave of migration you're looking at. In some sense, yes "Dutch" is just an Englishization of Deutsch, but in another sense, the term "Dutch" was much more broad than it is today, where we think "Dutch" means Netherlanders and "Deutsch" means Germans. The one term in English originally meant all people who speak these related languages. And yes your Dutch oven is also named after the Pennsylvania Dutch.
And why is it called a baby? Because it is as fun and easy or because you put in an ofen and a German saying is having a roast in the oven with means being pregnant?
@@gwenlynn7261 That's funny and true, but the name baby comes from the fact that it was originally much much smaller. Americans like to supersize even their babies.
Love Dutch baby pancakes. They are so flexible. You can add and extra egg, sweetener (I use stevia), lemon/orange / anise / almond extracts, nuts, fruit, seeds, spices or even savory with onions and vegetables. I never blend it. Too much work. Wisk with fork in circular motion. I pour in separate baking bowls for single serving to guests. They come out as bowls and I serve with multiple toppings and syrups for people to fill their own Dutch baby bowls. Thank you for this! Cheers!
I've been making Dutch baby for years, as my ex was half Dutch. My kids always loved it, now my daughter has my SIL hooked. They're a lot of fun for the little ones to watch it puff up!
There once was a little Dutch child Who came up with something real wild. He’d hop in a pan Getting it hot as he can- Needless to say, cases were filed.
Just made this. Wow. It is super good. I used regular salted butter and frozen blueberries. All worked perfectly. Will make again and again. Thank you Chef John!
Another winner! I had never heard of a Dutch Baby before. I made it for breakfast this morning and served it alongside with some orange slices and a couple of slices of thick bacon; a light and satisfying breakfast. I was impressed with how easy it was to make and how it didn't take a lot of time; ideal for morning meals. I didn't use the blender, hand mixed it with a whisk. That worked just fine. This will be a new staple on my table.
These are the most entertaining video recipes on YT I've seen. I'm not into cooking at all, like mixing flour with water is way beyond my skill set, but I enjoy every single video from Chef John.
Tried this yesterday, and the 3 who ate loved it. Crisp on outside, and custard like interior. Almost like a Yorkshire Pudding. Will be trying this again soon, but with a multigrain pancake mix.

I love to make Dutch Baby! So good. Blueberries won't be ready for picking until June here in Mississippi but wild black raspberries are ripe right now. I've been foraging them in my yard. I bet those would be very good in Dutch Baby.
