Hello. I made a puffed pancake weeks ago on a cast iron, and it was very "eggy" and chewy. And i thought, well, maybe Deutsche babies arent as delicious... as.....Suddenly, YOUR VIDEO came across my feed. So i made it again with less time in the oven and 7 pats of butter😮. OMG, this is sooo good, so custard, like pudding-y, and buttery. Thank you, it was DELICIOUS!❤
Excellent video and excellent recipe! I cut the recipe in half and used a 9 inch Wagner square skillet this morning. The dish came out perfect! I passed the link on to my two adult daughters who, together with their young daughters, had fun and great results also! Thanks for sharing! Cheers
Thank you from Greece.I liked your recipe more than the others-the more the batter, the better! As the lady said, who eats only one pancake??And the lemon glaze on top..!!
The name Dutch Baby came from a Seatle restaurant called Mancas. One of Victor Mancas daughters called the small German pancakes they sold there, Deustch Babies. It had nothing to do with the Amish as there aren't any around here. It was a corruption of the word Deustch, with most folkseither heard wrong, or simply not knowing that Germany was called Deustchland.
Looks yummy. However, I love a soft, custardy bottom when I make my German pancake, so I, too, reduce the baking time, and also reduce the temperature.
Overseas I have had them with the lemon however I also love maple syrup or golden syrup. If you make one of those and when it comes out you put golden syrup on it and thick heavy cream it makes an awesome dessert!
Is the big thing that you feel people are doing wrong just over cooking it or should we be using an enameled cast iron over traditional black cast iron pan?
It’s 3-4 servings if you have also the eggs and bacon or sausage, maybe some fruit. I like to do a double batch so it’s nice and thick and everyone gets a wedge. You can scramble up some eggs in the time it’s cooking, but I agree I would eat one all by myself if I wasn’t having other things. (Think of the recipe, how many eggs can one person eat generally 2-3 so even with a little milk and flour a 6 egg recipe is going to feed 2 nicely and even with some extras 3-4, unless you’re making a real smorgasbord with tons of options). I feel like these are a main dish type of food though.
I have watched a lot of videos how to make Dutch babies and no one ever put sugar in it, they put salt in it, but never sugar. So is there an authentic Dutch baby with sugar or without sugar? This seems like it would be more of a sugary pastry custard.
Looks delicious .. I will definitely try it .. thanks for the recipe .. I watch your videos quite often but I admit this one turned me off a little with the sloppy prep and dirty fingernails ..
@@castironchaos You are the ones eating it, so no problem. Also, but they complain about those camping shows that have flies and bees land on the food. LOL
@castironchaos Eric, I’ve never had any success trying to make one of these in my #8 Field or a 10 inch Well seasoned skillet. Followed instructions exactly: preheat oven, melt butter in skillet, whisk the ingredients together well using half of your demo person quantities. Flopped again (used the proper baking times. What happened to mine was, it formed a hard crust on top that prevented the puffing. Would you please help me problem solve. Thanks a bunch.
We always called them German pancakes, but then my wife's mother is German... Haven't made one in quite a while, but more I'll have to - they are good.
Deutsch vs Dutch is a difference without a distinction since Deutsch and Dutch come from the same root and people didn't alway know they were living in Germany not the Netherlands since nations are a newer concept than the recipe which is older than the chicken. Every video on RUclips for Dutch Babies goes through the whole it Deutsch babies not Dutch Babies. It is Dutch Babies. That is the name of the dessert in America. Every single country from Russia to England and every single place in between has a variation of this dish. The English calls them Yorkshire pudding. The Australians make one. Even the Portuguese have their own version called Egg tarts. Americans call them Dutch Babies. We call fried potatoes French fries but no one bothers mentioning they're not French.
French fries comes from the slicing. When things are cut like that they are Frenched. Just like shoestring potatoes are Julienned. So Frenched Fried Potatoes became French Fries.
Thanks again for sharing yet another wonderful recipe. This will definitely be on the to do list especially, the next time our grandchildren congregate to our home. Fast, easy to make but especially, looks scrumptious to eat. I would imagine you could use any type of fruit, I'm thinking some fresh Blueberries, crushed and thinkened with some whole Blueberries added yummy. Thanks again for sharing another great video with us Eric. Stan
I made my first based on a recipe from Taste of Home. Cooked it for their recommended time and it was HORRIBLE. Way overcooked. Tough, rubbery, eggy. Not good. Will be trying it again with your recipe.
Ok. Twisted my arms. Definitely all for more butter. But all that sugar Will make this for my usual weekend indulgence if I remember to buy lemons. Try it once because I can always go back to making it "wrong" as I will be the one eating the whole dish.
Your HISTORY is wrong. The teen Dutch baby comes from Seattle. Mancos restaurant served these in the early 1900s. The owners daughter coined the term, not the Amish who are on the complete other side of the country. Dutch Baby, you're the only one calling it Deutsch baby.
Sorry. From your picture, you are Not doing it right. Secondly, the minute somebody starts off with YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG, I lose interest. I just saw your picture and decided I like the way I'm doing it,cause I'm doing it correctly. Mine are absolutely gorgeous. And scrumptious.

Hi Aampa :D
@@laylamae3009 Hi Little Layla

9x13 dish, 6 eggs, 1 cup milk, 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, zest from one lemon. Whisk out the lumps
What about the butter!

That looks rather underdone, but if that’s what you like that’s what you like 😋
I bake my Yorkshire puddings light too! So much better, more egg flavor and more tender. Better flavor

Was cooking mine at 425 for 15 minutes and than lowering it to 350 for another 15 minutes. Way too dark will have to try this next time. Thank you

Thank you.- Danke . Great Video again , well done. Greeting from Germany.
If they like it that way ...... they'd LOVE it if they left it in the oven for another 6 - 9 minutes SMH
I just made one for the first time and it came out really thick and hard..... not sure why
Nice video, I have subscribed. Thank you.
I haven't tried these. Definitely going to now😊👍👌
I love it when you guys cook together. 😁😁👍👍
Got sent here from Cast Iron Cooking. I love how you two talk with each other. I'm going to go try this recipe right after I post this comment.
Looks delicious .. I will definitely try it .. thanks for the recipe .. I watch your videos quite often but I admit this one turned me off a little with the sloppy prep and dirty fingernails ..
If you watch my videos quite often, you'll see the preparations are often not very neat.
@jack lock There is no excuse for dirty nails around food. That is what a nail brush is for, even an old toothbrush.

Try using double the ingredients, in a rectangular baking dish. Even if that may not be cast iron.
Cast Iron Chaos Good suggestion. Thanks Eric.
Make sure ur ingredients are at room temperature
Greasy.. Tasey! Well said. I love it!

Being Dutch, I never heard of a Dutch baby, probably because it's German. But I love pancakes, so I will give it a try to make this. Thank you!
This is the exact recipe on several other channels, so who are you ccusing?
Some people aren't happy unless they're complaining.
Deliciousness! I like your Corelle crazy daisy plates.
No I believe i did mine right . Definitely not the original but still looks good

Everyone needs a cast iron pan or ceramic plated cast iron pot. It will change your life.

I have seen people make these with 12 eggs and 10 eggs.
Looks great! That is a LOT of sugar.
I call it Pannakukku
