R/T Max AWD 5.7 2011 118,000 miles: HEMI is a very specific engine type and not just a name. It’s worth looking up. RUclips has a number of videos that demonstrate the differences between a flat headed piston and a HEMI. The Charger was never meant to go up against supercars. However, very few cars have been able to throw down. I shouldn’t say “cars”, but drivers. - Traction control off, AC/Auto off, tap down to 1st. You can heel/toe the break and gas and the backend dig into the pavement without breaking traction. Backup camera. Totally agree. My camera is going out. 1/2 it’s blank. Mechanic says it’s an expensive fix, but Amazon has the camera for >$300.00. The trim is cheap. The “chrome” is a sticker that wears away. Replacement “carbon fiber” stickers are a bit expensive. My daughter cut herself on a piece of torn chrome sticker. The sunroof controls are screwed up. I can still open and close it, but it takes repeated button pushes. The spoiler is a bit sketchy. Very little hardware, physically & quantity, are used to hold it on. The uConnect was amateur compared to other manufacturers. Bluetooth connectivity with my iPhone is at about 70%. To reset everything, I turn off the car, open my driver side door, make sure my phone is already streaming something before turning the car on. The cylinder deactivation hasn’t failed me once since I bought it with 3000 miles used. Reactivation is instant. It’s important to know that it’s not fuel injected! You are always going to have the stomp lag. But when the engine kicks in, you feel it until about 0mph to 70-80mph. After that, the rush sensation hits at about 120mph. Regardless, when the car isn’t under load, 4 cylinders essentially turn of. Check this out: www.motortrend.com/how-to/chrysler-5-7l-hemi-mds-lifters/amp/ 2011 has the last big meaty grill. The following years have shrunk. I’ve thought of going for a newer model, but they don’t have the 2011 beast look. Perhaps an 2011 SRT. I love my 2011. I’ve put more miles on this car than any other. I travel round trip between Denver & Las Vegas. If I get really tired, I lay down all my seats and use the trunk for my legs. 100% would buy again if the car was an SRT. 93% would buy my same car. Past Experience: Managed car wash, exposed to pretty much everything. Pontiac Ventura, 300z, Saturn VUE, SL1, SL2, Honda Pilot 2019 & 2021, and my old man restores muscle cars & builds rat rods. Competitively race 600cc class. Casually rode 1100cc. All Honda.
the 11-14 models have a trans built by Mercedes, trans issues are slim. Only big issue is the cam and lifter failure. everything else is cosmetic and can fail on every car.
Issue with the 5.7 Hemi with cylinder deactivation is not enough oil gets to the camshaft and roller lifters, more so at idle when the oil pressure is low, causing premature engine failure. Next thing you know you’re out $5,000 in repairs😑. Great review btw!
And chrysler knows this but wants to keep this under the rug. The problem is even relevant in all the hemi models to this day. Theyve been using the same design since 03 and did some tweaks back in 09 that started all these problems. They seriously need to redesign and refresh everything. A new 10 speed torque flight transmission, a brand new lighter and better platform, all aluminum engines, new and better technology, new keyfobs, new sound systems, new designs both in and out, new trims, new buttons and switches, etc
@@JerzeYxKinGif its like the GM engines that had similar issues you can shut it off with a tune but the best thing to do is a cam swap and remove all the cylinder deactivation parts from the valvetrain.
I think the issues you mentioned are pretty minor to label a car "poor build quality" after almost ten years. There are way worse issues that occur with cars that have "poor build quality" than a backup camera (easy fix one would think) and not talking to your phone the way it should, and some surface cracks in the interior.
All your points are painfully valid. I am absolutely in love with my ‘11 R/T Max. It mirrors the test car in every way except that it’s AWD. My camera has gone out. My cup holder paint is wearing thin, and what really gets me is the chrome sticker that lines the center console is slowly coming off. This exposes some cheap white, plastic. My sun roof motor and/or switch is also failing. All that is comfort level concerns. Mechanically, I’ve blown through a fuel pump, radiator, and the front breaks. Replacing these, and a couple of other parts with higher quality parts allows the HEMI to do what it born to do. Push power to the wheels. I know a lot of performance is tied to the driver and not the car, but I’ve found very few cars that can best me. And when they do, they generally have a handhold on an extra 100hp over my car. The power plant, itself, has never failed me. I’m not a timid driver. If a corner is rated at 15-20, I’ll take it at 40 providing I can do it without the potential of injuring others. In the straight, the car has 122mph recorded as my top speed. Why they store that info, I’ll never know. As a final note, cylinder deactivation, or as Dodge puts it, eco mode, has never been a problem. It’s all in how you drive the car. If you consciously adjust your speed and let the car sit at a consistent RPM, the chances of finding yourself in automatic eco mode goes up significantly. The car decides when eco mode is appropriate. When it decides to kick out of eco mode, all cylinders enguage within a fraction of a second. As far as the model year, the recent trend to do away with the super aggressive grill is a knock to the Charger line. The platform may have undergone some refinements, but without the styling, it’s just not the same. I’m going to keep my car until it becomes a classic. Even if it’s not my daily driver.
Well the new 8 speed, signature daytime running lights, hood scoop, led lighting, revised interior design, and of course a bunch of power on the newer chargers are very welcomed changes and additions. However i do love the styling of the 2011-14 charger with its very sharp curves and edges and very aggressive front face with my favorite being the srt8 superbee front face or an rt with an aftermarket front spoiler added. But with the old 5 speed and outdated tech, its obviously a downside but not a significant one. Even the 06-10 srt8 charger styling was beautifully done imo. But the 2011-14 will always have that trend that made the charger what it is today in terms of styling
Enjoyed your comment, I actually have this exact car paint and all in this video haha, have you tried the Diablo 93 octane tune? It’s plug and play it completely charged the car took away most of the lag and slow shifts. Also where Coukd I access the top speed info? Thanks
Nahh Bro. That Camshaft Issue Is A Chrysler Problem. It’s A Design Flaw. It Kills Dodges & Chevys. The Lifters Come Apart & Stop Rolling & Eat The Cam Alive.
I just bought a charger rt awd max for 18,000 it only 1 owner and garage kept with 87,000 miles everything works has paper work from dodge dealership as on maintenance threw the whole time he owned it love this car !!
As someone who owns a 2012 dodge charger rt plus. I can say it’s a good purchase no matter what way you put it. You said it’s not a sleeper but many builds from 11-14 Charger and challenger RUclipsrs would tell you otherwise. Many upgrades can be done to the 5.7 hemi to make it a sleeper build. I’ve invested a lot to get the car up and running but I haven’t regretted it since then. I have almost a 12 year old car and yet it still operates like a champ at 75k miles. Before it gets to 100k a new cam will go in it but for now I’ll enjoy the luxury i have with red heated and cooled leather seats, heated and cooled cup holder, new aftermarket CarPlay, paddle shifters and amazing sound system. Is it perfect? Not really if you count exteriors since it does need a makeover and a few paint touch ups but interior is flawlessly
So i currently own the car ur reviewing i just drove it across country to San Diego for my job and it drove completely fine and the cylinder deactivation still does work to this day i have 143000 miles on it and shes my baby
So a 11-14 charger is bad for a first car? I know I can’t afford a hellcat so I thought an older model would be nice, can any owners tell me if it’s a good or bad?
The camera isnt a rare issue, but the shuffling is only a problem with the direct wire connections. The bluetooth however works really good, just can be sluggish sometimes for a 9 year old car. You could get a uconnect update and it will fix most problems. Features of it tend to go out over time, so that update is essential.
Im looking into them and really like them especially with aftermarket parts, id be buying it as a daily. However im still on the hunt for different cars but id love one of these as for the price it has the interior design and outside looks of a moder mopar, plus the sound. I cant afford a scat pack or hellcat nor would i want to jump into something like that as a first car so thats why i am looking st these. My question is though, would it be worth the 12-15k to buy one, usually around 100k miles or a little more. I dont care as much about cosmetics wearing but more of the engine and all the other stuff, id like something i shouldn't be scared of driving daily. Should i do it? Or should i stick to hondas
I pulled the trigger and purchased a 2013 RT+ . 130k miles. 17k fixed price pristine inside condition if I must say with the tan leather seats . Did a car fax and car had two previous owners & had been serviced very often according to the records . Also had been purchased with the warranty of 100k miles which gave me a good feeling I guess. Anywho so far I have driven the vehicle a little above 10 thousand miles and have not had any problems so as far as reliability goes it’s been doing pretty good transmission and engine wise I use it as my daily to get to and from work 30 minutes away. To answer your question in my opinion 12-15k for a Mopar that you know had somewhat been taken care of is not a bad deal. Always Make sure you get service records when getting these cars because in my opinion that’s what is going to matter the most. A vehicle that has been well taken care of is always going to outlive one that wasn’t and service record reflect that . Reliability is not as bad as people make it seem with the hemis . If the engine was taken care of and not beaten up on excessive levels It will hold for long while. In my opinion I would go year 13 and up as a lot of small things had been fixed and upgraded by then . I hope this helped have a wonderful day
Get the v6!!! Plenty of horse power and it'll last forever the hemi will screw you after 150000 miles it's gonna end up falling apart. there's a difference in owners as well the 50 year old who got the v6 and replaced the oil often drove the car responsibly while the 25 year old who bought the V8 drove the everliving shit out of it and changed the oil when he got a warning

Extended idling causes lifter wear. Hemi originally designed with 180 thermostat and 10w-30 oil. 2011 epa forced a 203 thermostat and thinner oil 5w-20 to burn off a tenth of emissions. 180 thermostat no tune requirement on 2014 or older. I stayed with 5w-20 oil but always add Lucas stabilizer

Rt max gives you the 3.09 gears, and the rt base model gives you the 2.62 gears so it doesn’t launch as hard. Other things are cloth or leather seats. Obviously said by someone who has never gotten into their car when it was -4 Fahrenheit outside. You don't run the heated steering wheel constantly, you run it for the first few minutes when you get in the car so that you can safely grab the wheel when it is incredibly cold out.

Obviously said by someone who has never gotten into their car when it was -4 Fahrenheit outside. You don't run the heated steering wheel constantly, you run it for the first few minutes when you get in the car so that you can safely grab the wheel when it is incredibly cold out.
