- This is probably the most awesome high rise elevator system I have ever come across to date!! The building itself is nothing short of AMAZING! It took a direct hit from a tornado and I drove 400 miles just to see this elevator. I do have some more takes that will upload in the future.. This take is on my TX10 Facebook: / dieselducy

This has to be one of your best elevator discoveries! A high rise building spared by a tornado, and still operates with the original Westinghouse Selectomatic! Amazing!
It's so fascinating for me, seeing that other people are interested or have a faible for elevators as I do! Greetings from Berlin!
I love this! My grampa worked at a building in Minneapolis that had old elevators with these sort of controls. He said it was great because when someone would go in and press the wrong button, you could just pull it out again to cancel the call.
They have shut down these elevators, they didn't meet safety regulations. One has been replaced with a modern elevator and they have plans to replace another. They were pretty scary to ride, one of them would try and go to the 21st floor and hit the top bumper. And they were notorious for getting stuck.
CowboyFromHellBLS Yes, they have been modded by Schindler in 2014
It's nice to see that we can all still enjoy the little things.
I grew up in Lubbock..was there when the tornado hit. I was downtown at my dads office when they were cleaning up after the storm and remember a loud speaker announcement "The Great Plains Life Building is about to fall...take shelter" We all ran inside and waited. It didn't happen.
As a teenager a friend and I used to take the bus downtown and ride that elevator up and down until we got kicked out...lol It was fast ride on the tallest thing in town.!!
It's a good thing because the middle elevator was waiting for you on the first floor so you can take a ride on it.
Yep
this elevator is brutal
It is awesome and sadly gone.
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN had these type of elevators before they were “upgraded” to Otis elevators. Same bell, same panel, everything!
The 20th floor of the" Great Plains Life Building", as it was originally known with big sky blue lettering along the top saying so, not only housed a restaurant but also the studio of KLLL-AM from the time it opened to the time of the tornado. Yes, Buddy Holly was in there more than once. It is an amazing building and if the skyline is the "smile of the city" then Metro Tower gives Lubbock a buck tooth...a crooked one.
When the Westy wants to close, the Westy closes.
Selectomatic was the world's first computerized elevator control system. It could automatically adjust to meet traffic demand, even accounting for the amount of passengers in each car (it automatically weighs each car at the time of loading).
these are amazing elevators. I totally like those pop out buttons! I didn't expect to see that in US.
This building survived in 1970 from a tornado hit.
Awesome selectomatic elevator system!
In Downtown Los Angeles, California, there are Westinghouse Selectomatic elevators inside a hotel called the Millenium Biltmore but unfortunately they are under modernization. The elevators i believe were from 1923. They were then modernized to Westinghouse Selectomatic in the 1950s. Then i think they were modernized in the 1980s. Now they are being modernized by Otis.
EPIC Elevators y'all
Days of Wine and Roses. Opening minutes after yacht party.
Ok
seeing these in person would be fun.
No it wouldn't. They've been HORRIBLY MODDED by Schindler.
3 of the elevators were damaged in the tornado. Glad they weren't modernized.
I would LOVE to see these!!!
thewildeeper these are modernized
I love "Plopping" buttons!
Buffalo NY has an amazing elevator history due to the fact that our city was close to the first electrified city, due to the proximity to Niagara Falls and our role in the 1901 world's fair (introducing edison light bulbs perhaps? or at least showing them off big time)
Nice elevators. I like this building a lot. I'd always want to drive by it whenever I was in Lubbock for my music functions and string instrument tuneups. I live in the city next door, Amarillo. I've always wanted to see what the inside of this building. It looks deserted though. Must have been bustling back in its hayday. Glad to see the original fixtures still there.
been a long time didnt see your elevator videos :D
Now record that in 2024!
I need to
Installed In 1955
Yep
I've never seen an elevator like that. I rode an Otis and a Kone elevator the other day
BB&t was completed in 1965 so these are older.
He uses a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX10 16.2 MP Digital Camera.
0:14 what a strong building
yep!
@@DieselDucy is the westy happy?

nice video
if you look at the ellicott square wiki page, the picture of the elevator doors in the lobby, the middle car is one of the freight cars (with the original lighted floor indicators). the selectomatics are the surrounding cars (one side of the triangular floor indicator lights (or used to) this car next, other side "other car next" I'm kind of really upset that they got rid of the original buttons and updated the whole thing. Up until 2 years ago the motors were running 30 hz by the way.
The 4th cab in the metro tower is one of my favourites alongside the: Montgomery
Kone Hydraulic [i think] lift in Bellevue Square Macy*s and the Innovation Traction [i think] lifts in NORDSTROM Bellevue Square
The car buttons look like the old Otis Autotronic type which were magnetically latched after being pressed. I didn't know Westinghouse used the same technique.
It would be nicer if they had a dinner bell on these elevators
haha my school was built 1955, so maybe he was there lol
I have ridden an elevator very.similar to that at BB&t in Asheville NC
AWESOME!! :D:D
film elevators with jtelev. you'll have loads of fun. elevator buttons popping out are fun.
Sadly these have been replaced. These and the Starks building were my favourites of all time.
The most amazing (but fast) elevator I have seen is in Spokane WA come see it xD
Sweet :D
As of June 2014, two elevators have been decommissioned and the other two are now modernized by Schindler.
¡Madre de dios! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
OPM1961 what’s decommissioned mean?
Finnaly an elevator with a 13th floor
nice!
I've been on the elevators several times; there's nothing like seeing floors zip by at a rate of nearly two floors every second...
Wouldn't expect that either.
We have Westinghouse Selectamatic elevators in the old Kansas State Bank & Trust Building in downtown Wichita...they are 750fpm gearless AC. Fastest elevators in the state, and they aren't even on the tallest building in Wichita; it's only 25 floors.
What is the address of the building you are referring to?
@douro20 is it still original as of this year?
@@jasonn4597 Unfortunately not; they've been modernised.
nice vido
When ever I am watching these videos about elevators in metro tower, l keep on thinking that only three elevators are there, Sins one of them in these four are not working.
Yeah
that woman who got in god know what she was thinking
What is the pass button for - passing intermediate floors?
check out "ellicott square building" in buffalo, ny. the wikipedia page. Apparently the (Otis originally, Westy Selectomatic with pop out buttons, and in the last couple years messed with by who knows and who cares) first selectomatic/automatic elevators in the country. there are still 2 freight elevators which up until 2 years ago had the original Otis manual controllers (now they have semi-manual controllers, I don't know why they'd decide to go 1/2 way, they still have the gates, etc.
Elevator bell goes: 🎵
NNNNNNNNNIIIIIIIIICCEE! What camera do you use?
TX-10
I live in this city! We should've gotten together! I could've gotten you into some nice elevators.
Now THAT'S what I call an elevator. We have a selectomatic mark IV here in Jackson, MS but sadly schindler got their hands on it and raped it. BUT it has the original call buttons and annunciator in the lobby
6:10, It's the going up light :)
6:10
it might do that.
What does the "PASS'' button do?
Why is the up lantern is broken?
Now is modernized by Otis
correct
@@DieselDucy hell yeah

Unfortunately, this building has since been redeveloped into apartments.
Is it finished?
@@DieselDucy I believe so, yes.
Old but fast
Придуманая в швейцарии
Have they been modded ?
Sadly, yes. 2 are modded, and 2 are original, but decomissioned
@@FloridianElevators You should film the modded ones.
