Don't recall. Over 5 years ago. Already sold to a collector. Japan coins, especially the Yen and Trade Dollar are heavily in great demand in high grade. Just need to be careful since there are many fake copies around. Best Rmworldcoins

No its pretty good. 1882 is semikey for this series. Basically anything before 1880 is a key date, 1880-1886 along with 1902,06, and 08 are also semikey . All others are basically common coins. This is probably a solid AU coin in reality and therefore its worth if put in an NGC or PCGS slab (unfortunately many buy the slab) around 350-500 bucks depending on where it actually grades out. More if it actually grades out as MS. If it were to grade out in an NGC or PCGS slab at 62+ it would be worth conservatively 1500 and could have a go at pushing 2k. However as I said I think its a little lower in the grade - all the details are there but as the presenter said its lost a little luster hence why I would grade it a solid AU
Also as someone who has collected every date of the meiji one yen series as well as most of the varieties, any semikey date that is MS or better is exceptionally hard to find. The big issue with these 1 yen coins is that they tend to have awful reverses. I've lost count of the number of times when ive seen a gorgeous obverse that might even be gem (ms65) and at a minimum choice only to be disappointed at a reverse with lots of very minor scratches. NGC calls these surface hairlines. So the number of ms coins in this period is incredibly rare.
Yes, I remember when i was stationed in Japan, picked up a few nice bu coins. Very hard coin in high grade and costing thousands. Big demand now on asian coins and hard to compete to getting true mint state coins, uncleaned. Few nice coins will pop up and some are nice full strike. Best
Right now Japanese yen are still hot even in worn condition. Many of these coins were melted and getting hard to locate. Demand is high, especially in high grade. Best
Very nice
