Thank you for sharing your experience of the Mabel with us. I haven’t made it yet and I’ll be following your advice when I do make it. It’s so lovely that you and the sewing community are so sharing, supportive and helpful. It really helps new sewist like me. Thank you! Sending best wishes from Down Under 💖💐🌸🌺🇦🇺😎
YAY! Finally had a few minutes to finish watching your vlog. Good descriptive Mable review. Super excited to see Adam in your house. Eager to meet him someday and talk sewing machines. I commissioned the two bowl cozies that I have and love them. I have the Accuquilt Go bowl cozy die if you want to make some while you’re here. Or maybe just cut them out with the die and make them later! Talk soon…
Your Mabel vlog just popped up on my feed just as I’m about to start making my first one! Thank you for your tips and suggestions. Your Mabel v2 looks fabulous on you and such a pretty colour 😊
My family lived in a motel for 2 months in 1975 while waiting for our home construction to be completed in Petaluma, Ca. During that Time I sewed 100 yards of fabric into lined drapes for our new 2,000 square foot home. Crazy. They were beautiful but I never made another drape. Never! And I never again took a sewing machine to a motel.
I thought it was just me having issues with Mabel. I will definitely try your suggestions. I had changed my sleeves to puff on No2 but like you have waist issues. No3 here we come 😊
Im so utterly delighted to read your comment - I think the elastic in the sleeve. Head may need adjusting too. As the elastic pulls up in the sleeve it will pull up your dress - good luck 🤞 xx
thank you for your comments on the mabel pattern. I have had a nightmare with this dress. I omitted the shirring, everywhere. Hoping that the riding up would stop! It hasn't it's driving me daft.
Love love loved meeting you and being welcomed into your lovely home Judi! Thankyou! I think the tips and tricks you’ve pointed out and explained about the Mable, will be extremely helpful to a lot of people making that pattern, it’s a shame it’s a bit out of whack in the construction process xx
It is lovely to see you looking so well Judi. What good tips for the Mabel, they are so practical and helpful. Your version looks so pretty on you. 😊 xx
@@runningsewandsew That’s a beautiful thing to do, I bet they loved it. My children have 1 week to go. I finished Friday! Hope you have a lovely summer. Take care, Amy xx
I believe you can put bowl cozies right in the microwave as well so that when you take out your hot food, your hands are protected from the heat. Of course, that would require all cotton fabric, batting, and thread however. Your Mabel fabric is gorgeous. I always enjoy your videos!
Your dress looks lively Jude, great tip on the shirring. I did scratch my head when trying to attach the top to the bottom once shirred, round peg square hole came to mind! I too dont feel comfy in mine as i dont like the waist riding up. Ive just toiled making the top with iut shirring as i love the top part. I just lengthen it by 13". I also sized down to a size 4 and i love it. X
They are very popular in Australia I have made a lot for family as when someone else sees them they all need them…. Super fun to make cheerio from Robyn xxx
My Machine has traveled only a couple of times! (solid metal, 1983) The most memorable was when I was making one of many costumes for my younger son - who just loves dressing up in costumes 😁This one was for a Cos-play event, and we were getting really skinny on time. So I loaded her up and drove quite a distance to his house to figure out how to finish up the jacket - the only part I needed to 'invent' , and it was very helpful to have his real-life self to fit it onto! It took a few hours, but we got 'er done, and was actually complimented by the creators of the anime series! A huge happy for both of us! Love your Mabel! Happy sewing!😘
I forgot about the bowl cozies, I made about 20 of them one year for Christmas gifts, they were a big hit!!! Great way to use up small pieces of fabric. It was fun to match up different fabrics and different colors of thread and decorative stitches on my machine. Love the fabric of your Mabel dress!
Thanks for reminding me I need to make bowl cozies Judi😃 So pleased you shared your thoughts on the Mabel as empire style dresses are not for me either! I was thinking of making the dress so appreciate your advice and tips on modifying the pattern. I agree that the neckline pulls up and I just made the blouse. It does look lovely on you though and great fabric choice ❤
I am so glad you did this review. SO helpful. I abandoned a Style Arc dress 2 years ago because with my fraying fabric I failed to attach shirred skirt to straight edge top. I blamed myself. Thank you I feel better now!
As you can tell, I am catching up on my vlogs. It was good to see Adam and Rachel on their visit. Did Adam ever get to sew2????? I am hoping you are back at work at this time and feeling well. I wish I lived closer so I too, could visit!!!!! Take care.
Oh thank you so much. I can’t believe the difference two weeks and surgery has made. I’m up to walking 3 miles with the girls again - I’m so pleased xx
Bowl cozies are fab to make and so useful not just for hit soup but also an ice cold bowl of ice cream 🤤 I actually taught my 70 year old from Australia how to make bowl cozies when she was over in March and now everyone she knows is getting sets as gifts, great way to use up fat quarters I found.
Hello Judi. Despite your Mabel dress not turning out like you hoped, it still is a lovely dress and you look beautiful wearing it. I only take my machine to the sewing guild meetings, but from the start of this month my local fabric shop is hosting a sewing social day which I want to attend (fingers crossed I am not tempted to buy the beautiful fabric that is stocked.... but you never know.... LOL). I hope all goes well when you return to work this week I am sure the children have missed you. Love to Poppy and Maggie
I’ve lost count of the number of bowl cozies I’ve made. I’ve sold them as well as given them as gifts. I use only cotton fabric, but my batting is 80/20, so they aren’t suitable for the microwave. I put a label on them saying so, but it’s not really an issue just lifting the bowl out with a tea towel and popping it into the cozie. They’re perfect for holding ice cream too. X
Hello Judy, thank you for sharing what you have been up to. It’s such a joy to see you looking well and happy. The Mabel …….. not for me , however you look lovely and cool in yours. Did you use a viscose or cotton? Take care next week at school. Happy sewing. 🧵👋🏻
I took my sewing machine on a 5 day course for work, off I went to my room straight after dinner the first three nights. On the fourth night I wore the evening dress I has spent the last 3 nights make to the dinner dance. Everyone commented on it 😊. Who set up the bowl cosy challenge please so I can keep an eye out for it? I made them as part of a hamper I put together my brother and his wife a few years ago they loved them. Thank you for a lovely catch up, it is great you are feeso much better.😊
Funny thing Judi, I automatically thought that the Mabel WAS empire waisted....so if I had any intention of making one, I would have automatically added several inches to the bodice without thinking about it. Yours is such a lovely colour on you!
I bought the pattern having seen the pattern envelope model wearing it at the stitch festival and the dress was on the waist. The instructions just kiss some vital information and sadly have poor construction advice - it’s a lovely dress it just needs a lot of adjustments 🙈🙈🥰🥰
Glad that you are feeling better - hopefully you will make the next Sew Toon. Tilly seems to have made a few misjudgements with that pattern by all accounts. It isn't my style so not planning to sew it, though I have seen some lovely versions on others.
Thank you for the information on the Mabel dress.Yours looks lovely however I think this style suits a small bust. Thank you for explaining that it is the elasticated neckline that is the problem in lifting the waistline.I don't know if Tilly has changed her pattern drafter but this and the recent pattern do not look good designs.I am wondering what you think?
I don’t know if she’s changed her block or measurements but there do appear to be a number of ‘hiccups’ with this pattern. I did think king and hard about doing this vlog xx
Good to see you back and looking so well Judi. Your Mabel looks lovely. I've had the pattern for a while but I'm worried that the style may be a bit too young for me. I'm 76, what do you think?
I feel a bit the same although I do also think you should wear whatever you like whenever you like. I’m going to make another one a bit longer and with longer sleeves and I think that will be more me.
My sewing machine went away to university with me. I’m not sure I thought I was going to sew as much as I didn’t want my younger sisters “messing” with it!
What a great hint - shirring in the round!
So straightforward I’m surprised she didn’t suggest it 🙈🥰

Hot Soup or ever so cold ice cream as well!
I’m new to bowl cozy’s but I’m thinking plate cozy too 🥰
I keep a “pot holder” type thing in the microwave all the time!
Enjoyed your honest review of the Mabel 👏 some makes don’t turn out how we hoped 😢. I made the Mabel and have same issues nice to know not just me.
It’s good to know you’re not alone. I did lots of Instagram research before I vlogged xx

It’s the elastic on the shoulders - it pulls the dress up …. We’ll get it sorted xx

Hope you’re feeling better! Take it easy in school, nearly end of term!
Two weeks but I miss the children so much - so I sent them a book via Amazon last week to say hello 🥰🥰

Hi Judi, lovely to see your smiling face as usual. I like your dress. I'm jealous you got to meet Adam! He's a delight, I love his channel.
Oh he is just like he is on his videos - he eludes happiness and love ❤️
So interesting. I haven’t made the Mabel but have the pattern and will certainly follow your advice when the time comes, if it comes… thank you x
I’m so pleased you e found the vlog helpful xx

Yes I didn’t understand this shir and then add bottom to the top 🤔 so pleased you got the dress to work too x
Hi again, did you fathom a solution for the dress to stop it riding up? Would love it if you did then I might attempt it again x
You are looking well. I hope your recovery is going well. Modified Mabel looks good, but I agree it did need modifying. Well sewn, as ever!
Thank you so much for your support in this. It’s always tricky when the pattern is so well loved. Xx
Hi Judy, thank you for your vlog, I want to tell you that I appreciate you and all the advice you give about everything you make thanks again
Oh bless you that is so very kind xx
Bowel cozies can also be used for icecream.
Oh I’m loving them 🥰

It’s my pleasure but reviewing a popular pattern and brand like this isn’t easy - i filmed it twice 🙈🤣🤣🥰🥰

I did follow the instructions the first time but to review a pattern you need too 🙈 I’m really pleased with the outcome xxx
Do you mean attach the bodice to the skirt and then shirr it ? I’m5 ft 10 and very curvy I think I added about 20 cm to the bodice.
Funny thing Judi, I automatically thought that the Mabel WAS empire waisted....so if I had any intention of making one, I would have automatically added several inches to the bodice without thinking about it. Yours is such a lovely colour on you!
