  • The Dark Sleeper is a bottom hugging swim bait from Megabass. It is the gold standard by which all other swim baits of this nature are compared to. Today, a challenger enters the ring to attempt to claim the title! The Gobius from Z-Man baits has some definite strengths that we will demonstrate in and out of the pool in today’s episode.

    With regards to the eyes coming off you can put a little mend it on the eyes and let it dry before using and the eyes will stay attached a lot longer. Concerning the gobious’s tail , movement can be increased by stretching the tail several times before using and the more zman elaztech is in water the softer it becomes. Thus the tail should move easier.

    Thank you both for the breakdown, really helps seeing the tail action as a striking difference. The issue with the eyes can kind of be mitigated with some super glue, so it's not a major issue. Happy Holidays!

    The dark sleeper is one of my favorite baits of all time. I noticed the gobious at my local tackleshop the other day and picked a few up. Needless to say one single gobious has around 30 fish on it with no tears just paint wearing off and I have another with around 10 to 15 fish. The dark sleeper is great but so is the gobious.

    • @markfisheroutdoors
      @markfisheroutdoors  7 месяцев назад

      In your experience does Gobius catch them equally as well as DS?

    • @Mt10bobby

      @@markfisheroutdoors yea in my experience the gobious catches just as much fish as the dark sleeper. I always have both.

    I’m leaning toward the Z-Man the fact the hook is not restricted thus a better hook percentage. Just what I got and it’s more resilient. Thanks for the challenge video.

    Definitely want to try the gobius for the durability! BUT Dark sleeper works so good. Hopefully gobius is just the same fish catcher . I usually bend the hook up abit on dark sleeper to get better hook penatration and cut the fin back abit too. Great job as always.

    Noticed the tail on the Gobius is slightly smaller. It also has a small tab sticking out the back. Would trimming the tab create less drag and give the bait a quicker tail action?Thanks for the comparison!

    Great comparison. My question for you is, are you using the rod to impart the hop or are you using the reel? Just curious on which way you do it, thanks.

    • @markfisheroutdoors
      @markfisheroutdoors  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah that’s a good question Jeremy, I was using the rod in the pool. Also, the retrieve that I catch fish on is more a combination of the crawl along the bottom with the hop added in. I don’t just keep hoping it like in the video. That was just to see the action and because we were filming in the shallow short side of the pool. Thanks for watching!

    • @markfisheroutdoors
      @markfisheroutdoors  7 месяцев назад

      That’s our observation as well but as I mentioned I get most of my bites on the hop when the bait is falling and the tail on Gobius seemed to flap in that situation.

    the idea dehord the smaller paddle with less action on the gobius is that of the gobies wich this imitate don't swim with the tail they swim with the lateral fins , this migth not have an impact everywhere but on the great lakes or any body of water with gobies it's probably best not to have a lot of tail action
