Agent Carter in her series if we're not sticking strictly to cinematic heroines. She's the lead role among what qualifies otherwise as an ensemble cast.
She's written as highly capable without sacrificing some element of realism or her human fallibility. She exercises good cooperation and inter-reliance with her allies (regardless of gender, iirc).
Contrast this with (afaik) all MCU content after the Brie Larsen movie when they started laying it on thick with the contrived, propagandist misandry.
The Long Kiss Goodnight is one of the best action movies of all times. Davis and Jackson at their best. I have watched it like 10 times and if it was on tonight, I would watch it again. Fantastic.
I agree, its soooooo good
Great movie indeed
Yup Samuel Jackson has said on several interviews that it was his most favorite character he's ever played.
Indeed. It's regrettably seriously underappreciated. It makes other, tamer action movies pale in comparison.
I Honestly think of Both GoodeNight Kiss and True Romance in pretty much the same Breath. 👍❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
River Tam (Summer Glau) in Serenity -- who not only takes on an entire bar but also a room full of reavers.. Someone who seems like a demure girl can turn into an unrivaled killing machine.
she always did love to dance
Her fight scene is amazing.
I loved the scene at the end *SPOILER ALERT*
After the Reaver fight, when the Alliance has arrived and is waiting for orders to fire, River stands there alone covered in blood, and she oh, so slightly adjusts her grip on her blades, ready to take on the entire battalion by herself. Bad. Ass.
I miss Summer Glau.
Hitgirl - The Kickass Movies she takes on an entire Drug Cartel at 12 Years old & took on an army of Super Villians in the sequel. Why Hitgirl hasn't gotten her own movie is beyond me. 💁🏿♂️🙆🏻♀️
I liked the first movie just fine. 😎
I liked the second movie well enough except at select moments when that seemed like the screenwriter(s?) didn't think it through.
Was there a huge fan base who had been wanting more sequels ever since, though? If not, we are pretty far from there being much demand for spin-offs.
I wouldn't say she's underrated, though...
The Long Kiss Goodnight= automatic like button and watching of the video lol
Catalaya (Columbiana), Salt, Lucy, Trinity (The Matrix), JLO (Enough). Was happy to see Charlie from my favorite movie though! The Long Kiss Goodnight is the best!!!
This!!
LONG KISS GOODNIGHT was a badass Christmas Movie! I saw it in the theater with my parents and we loved it!
One of the very best.
Well it was written by Shane Black. All his movies are set around Xmas
Ellen Ripley from Aliens saga
👍
Lucy - Lucy after getting exposed to that mysterious drug she essentially becomes a God & takes on an entire Crime Syndicate. 💁🏿♂️👩🏼🦱
Tris Prior - Divergent Series
Luna Lovegood - Harry Potter
Lucy - Lucy
Janis Ian - Mean Girls
Okoye - MCU
Evelin & Reagan Abbot - A Quiet Place
X-23/Laura - Logan
Jyn Erso - Star Wars
Ellie Sattler - Jurassic Park
good list
The first one, is a big no from me.
@@nicocancilla8386Toxic Divergent hater.
Long kiss goodnight really needs a resurgence. Geena Davis is a badass and samuel l jackson has perfect comedic timing. They have incredible onscreen chemistry. I understand why Sam says its his best film.
Resurgence. Not "ressurgance".
If i ever become a director, i will remake this movie bc i love it
@@DELUSIONXS Nah. It doesn't need a remake.
IMO it's Lisbeth Salander for the win!
Dude.. Do you really think Salander is Underrated? Everyone loves her.
Noomi Rapace, not Rooney Mara though.
"The brave one" w jodie foster deserves to be on this list. It was good.
Beatrix/The Bride from "kill Bill" 1 and 2
She's not really underrated, though...
She isn't under rated
The Warrior Chick From Heavy Metal (1981) She was pretty cool though
I loved the art style in that movie and the soundtrack 👌
Is that the woman who decapitated three guys in a bar for being rude? lol...
Michelle Rodriguez in Dungeons & Dragons deserves a nod.
Let's get some love for HANNA!
I am so glad Jennifer Lawrence open the door for these female action stars /s
LOL
🤣 Good one lol...
Lol😂
I remember when Lawrence said that, Twitter had a field day.
Like, really Jennifer, you thought you paved the way for females in action movies, playing a hero 😂
Jane Fonda in Cat Bolou
When we had Pam Grier in movies in the 70s like Coffey.
In the 80s
Grace Jones in Conan
Geena in long kiss goodnight which is under rated.
Linda Hamilton, Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis in the 80s fighting robots, aliens and killers.
Nancy Allen Robo Cop
Cynthia Rothrock who
In the 90s and early 2000s
Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon inThelma and Louise
Mila in 5th Element
Uma Thurman kill bill
Carrie Ann Moss The Matrix
Angeline Joline
Women on tv like
1.Sarah Michelle Gellar Buffy the vampire slayer
2.Jennifer Garner in Alias
3.Linda Carter Wonder Woman
4.Charlie Angel's
Lol
@@mlynettepinky595 You placed Long Kiss Goodnight in 80s, it was released in 1996!!🤦😁😎
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! Evelyn Salt in "Salt (2010)" was awesome as well. 🤣
Jessica Jones (season 1) - The finale is just amazing. Most of the season she does the stereotypical "ass-kicking", being physically strong but emotionally broken and weak (btw, nice to have a strong female lead who is allowed to have flaws as well). And then she has a showdown that is almost 100% emotional strength. I know it sounds lame, but in that moment it's easier to imagine yourself lifting a truck than forcing a smile. Which is an amazing way to portray a "hero" character.
What about Selene from underworld franchise?
IMO, Gena Davis is probably the only, truly underrated person in this list. I think everyone else is duly appreciated for their contributions to film and the action genre as a whole. Michelle Yeoh for example, is a highly celebrated action movie star, and not for the supremely overrated Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. 👍🏿✌🏿
Sign me up for Lola, Mallory Kane, and Samantha Caine -- but please never forget La Femme Nikita. Fun fact: "Sam Caine" is an anagram for "amnesiac."
The long kiss goodnight! Love that movie. Samuel l Jackson’s favorite character he’s ever played if I recall correctly.
I appreciate compilations such as these because it gives me some movies to watch when I've never heard of them before.
Alice from the Resident Evil Series is cool. Movies not so much.
Blame her pathetic husband.
HOW IN THE WORLD is Elizabeth Swann not on here? Her journey from being a governor's daughter that had to live a certain way to being THE pirate king where she could do whatever she wanted was and Keira Knightley's acting really sold it too.
I think the key word is Underrated…
Elizabeth Swan isn't underrated and pretty memorable.
@@cafeabasedecinema I agree. I just said that because no one puts her with the legends like Ripley and Sarah Connor.
@@d.c.2775 I know. No one says she's up there with other legends though.
Alice - The Resident Evil movies despite the movies not making sense after the 1st movie. Alice is one of Toughest Women in movies. 💁🏿♂️👩🏻🦰
Fuck Alice.... From a true Resident Evil fan, she's a mockery of the games.
Long kiss goodnight is one hell of a movie aww the good old times ❤❤❤❤❤
"Lola" creators can thank you for resurgence of views. Oh, and how did I miss Atomic Blonde? Them too
Long Kiss Goodnight is incredible. Watch it. Watch Run, Lola, Run subtitled, not in dubbed English. A masterpiece.
Thank You that was a Very Good List ;
Im always Frank and Earnest with woman in new York im frank and in Detroit im Earnest . Thats Samuel Jackson favorite character hes ever played
😂
💥 Rita Vrataski - "Edge of Tomorrow" (2014)
Long kiss Goodnight 🔥🔥🔥 never disappoints.
I would not usually count more than 1 person in any top ten place, but I will let Zoe, Kim and Abernathy from Death Proof have their spot. They were really badass when they went after Stuntman Mike and gave him payback at the end.
Tap tap tapping that ass!
Melina from Total Recall 1990
Alice from the Resident Evil movies is so underrated. I especially liked her in Retribution, where she becomes a protective mother for Becky. That was my favorite part of that movie. Trinity from the Matrix is also underrated too.
Long kiss Goodnight is definitely under rated and a good movie
Alice and Lorraine Broughton are my favorites. I can't imagine anybody else other than Milla Jovovich and Charlize Theron in those roles
Love that Deathproof is in here. Great soundtrack too!!!
Angela Bassett's character Mace from Strange days should 100% be on a list like this.
And what about:
Beau Hampton
From Road House 2 (2006)
Eowyn
From Middleearth (2001-2014)
Cindy
From Commando (1985)
Anne Lewis
From RoboCop (1987-1993)
Melina: A Martian
From Total Recall (1990)
Sydney 'Syd' Burnett
From Bad Boys 2 (2003)
Co Phuong Bao
From Rambo 2 (1985)
A handful are more “forgotten” by later generations than underrated as though who know still recall (particularly Lola & Yu Shu Lien). But like so many others, I hit comments for Charly Baltimore’s inclusion alone! Proud to say I introduced her (& Mitch) to my kids.
Jeena Davis as Morgan Adams in Cutthroat Island is my favorite movie heroine just behind Beatrix Kiddo.
Keira Knightley is a badass in Domino. Very underrated action movie.
I hate to say it, but every movie for the last million years has had a "strong" female lead, and it has fallen galaxies away from the glory of the Ellen Ripley's and the Ms .45's or even Jennifer Hills.... These 2015+ "heroes" are mocking the old ones in one simple but fatal way. They are NOT feminine. They are disgracing the groundbreaking women who knew how to be women... and kick butt. That's why the old ones endure, and the new ones sit in piles in bargain bins at Dollar General.
Nice List. But where is Selene from Underworld series?
The Resident Evil movies have always been a guilty pleasure of mine.
I won’t apologize for it 🤷🏾♂️🤣
One character stands above all : Albert Wesker 😊
@@CandiceVidito a man of culture. Respect 🫡
Gina and Fassbender's hotel room fight? Watched it multiple times. That kick through the door was sweet.
I think Run Lola Run should have been #1... What stands out about Lola is that she's not some elite badass, but just a character of determination. It's the same with the first Die Hard, and John McClane, as he is totally in over his head
I wrote my Honours Thesis on The Long Kiss Goodnight, Terminator 2 and the first four Aliens films. I explored violence and maternity, and the way the heroines derived their true violent capacity from their maternity, their maternity from violence, and that they were able to rejoin society afterwards, unlike many male action heroes who utilise extreme violence to eliminate the violent threat and restore the social order, only to have to ride off into the sunset at the end because their capacity for violence set them apart from normal safe society and the family unit.
It was a lot of fun to write.
atomic blonde is good and have sequel for Netflix.
There's actually Several Films that were Forgotten that have Freakishly Strong Female Performance Leads; No Particular Order: How I Live Now, Revenge, Fury Road, Furiosa, The Congress, The Survivalist, and A Lonely Place To Die.. 👀 👁
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Also, I love how Carey Mulligan plays Cassie. It’s very much a Gwyneth Paltrow like sense of calm and control that’s very intoxicating.
The amount of times I've re-enacted the bar scene in The Heat 😂 One of my all time favourite comedies
I have only seen a couple of the movies on this list, but I consider Atomic Blonde to be among my favorites of all time. The reason is that, although the fight sequences happen on top of each other and one right after the other, the characters get tired. Not like other movies where the characters have superhuman endurance. Plus, after several of the most severe fights, Charlize Theron's character has to immerse herself in an ice bath, and when she does, the audience can see the bruises all over her body. A more human character like that makes the movie seem very real, and therefore more enjoyable.
9:02 I guarantee that I’ve watched “Long Kiss Goodnight” more times 😊than any of those other so-called ‘blockbusters’ combined. I didn’t realize this was an unknown gem. Geeana Davis, Samuel L. Jackson, and a host of great supporting cast made this a definitive classic, well worth rewatching!
ALSO ALSO.. That combat scene in the stairwell with the tracking shot in Atomic Blonde…. BEST ACTION SCENE OF ALL TIME HANDS DOWN⚫️
Charlize should be PROUD.
No love for Dominika Egorova from 2019's Red Sparrow?
How dare you leave out Kate Beckinsale's Selene while keeping in Jovovich's Alice.
Got Sandra bullock and Melissa McCarthy in the heat. And now you gonna sit here and tell me Sharni Vinson in you're next doesn't deserve top 3 if not #1 eh?
Love your content guys ❤❤❤

Whenever anyone says Die Hard is the best Christmas movie, I always counter with Long Kiss Goodnight. Awesome movie! Love the ladies in Deathproof! And Charlize in Atomic Blonde is beyond reproach. Couple of honorable mentions... Angelina in Salt. A bit understated, but Amy Madigan in Nowhere to Hide. Jennifer Garner in Peppermint. I dunno about underrated, but Uma Thurman and the rest of Bill's ladies in the Kill Bill movies.
LA FEMME NAKITA (1990) should have been on this list!
Atomic Blonde is my fave on the list. Charlize should have got an Oscar for the movie. She was THAT good!
Kinda expected Sigourney Weaver to be on the list, but I guess that's low hanging fruit 😅
Amber Midthunder's Naru from 'Prey' ....awesome badass took on a Predator.
Of course, River Tam deserved 1st place.
So glad Lola & Charlie Baltimore got some love.
Charlie Baltimore should been number one on this list.
Oh, I forgot, female star wars Jedi and Blackwidow from Marvel
lara croft🫡
Mmmm do you think Lara is Underrated?
One I'm going with is Major from Ghost in the Shell (1995). My favorite on the list though is Sam Cain/ Charlie from "The Long Kiss Goodnight".
The hero from Promising Young Woman would have been better if she actually achieved anything against most of the men she confronted. Letting them off with a warning, to which they turn around and say she's crazy before probably continuing with extra vigilance regarding their targets was so lacklustre.
Aeon Flux and Die. Repeat. Die. I also second the vote.for Serinity ... several strong female action heroes on board Firefly!!
Sara Pezzini was tough with and without the Witchblade.
Resident Evil has a dedicated fanbase. idk what you're talking about - no studio is making 6 full-length films without a certain fan base to watch it.
I know Ruby Roundhouse, Zoe Bell, Abernethy Ross & Kim Mathis, Mallorca Kane, Alice but only from Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Yu Shu Lien.
"Chefs do that!" I love The Last Kiss Goodnight.
Hypatia of Alexandria Agora - 2009 definitely even though she's not an action lead. I also think Selene from Underworld is little bit underappreciated
And 4:40 is an almost unignorable understatement. She's extraordinarily triumphant, owing in large part to compound good fortune. I won't spoil it, further, however, in case this video has generated new interest from anyone who hasn't seen the movie. 😁
No Sarah Connor?
Well I'm proud to say I own all of these movies except 1 but now I have something to look up 😁
Why is Alice so hated? This is from someone who hasn’t watched the franchise to anyone who has.
Ruby Roundhouse was the fun surprise of the Jumanji series... KDM
I love The Long Kiss Goodnight 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
What I love about Atomic Blond is that they don't shy away from the fact that women are physically weaker than men and that she uses her skills to leverage that out as best as possible while trying to avoid being thrown like a ragdoll which happens often and they even show the scars she has endured as a result when she takes an ice bath to relief her pain.
Bro… most of yall shit on Death Proof calling it his worst movie. DEATH PROOF IS THE REASON I HIGHLY SUPPORT ACTRESSES IN THIS INDUSTRY!!!! I always have mind you, BUT now I’m like BOISTEROUS about it 😂. ALL of the women did sooooo effing good in this one. Vanessa Ferlitos dance 💜💜💜💜💜.
The final scene with Rosario’s Heel Kick made me SCREAM in happiness!
I would add Mitsuko Souma, the meanest of mean girls in "Battle Royale."
If I was new, I would love to be in an upcoming Horror movie, even a Vampire movie like those female movie heroes and it'll be awesome
Not one, not two, not three but four of my favorite Brynhildr in the Darkness anime Girls/Waifus, Neko Kuroha, Kana Tachibana, Kazumi Schlierenzauer and Kotori Takatori stole the show in Brynhildr in the Darkness(2014) just like how Zoe Belle, Abernathy and Kim Mathis stole the show in Death Proof(2007).
Bless you b/c I couldn't remember the name and was looking for it. Long Kiss Goodnight, Le Femme Nikitta and Colombiana ladies are my motivational spirit animals for when I need to kick @$$.. I don't say it, but from my face they know I'm thinking ' Suck..."' and Michelle Yeo is just my Auntie Diva
They're all awesome
Long Kiss Goodnight wasn't lost in my deck . I loved seeing Gina take the lead with alpha Samuel taking a supporting beta role. Great movie!
Whether Leelo, Alice or Violet; I'm a Milla fan multipass always in hand. 🤗
Blair williams: terminator salvation, and alice hardy: friday the 13th.
Set it Off had 4 badass protagonists
Lindy in the movie Jolt (2021) and as Carrie Stetko in the movie Whiteout (2009), both portrayed by Kate Beckinsale. Although we could argue Lindy from Jolt isn't too dissimilar from Lorraine Broughton (Theron) from Atomic Blonde.
I really have to disagree with #10; I thought Ruby Roundhouse was pretty terrible, even if Karen Gillan is awesome.
Old Guard, Double Indemnity, Enola Holmes, Salt, Homeland, Keema (?) in The Wire, Eon Flux, and... Barb Wire 😜
I would add Lucy from the movie Lucy and Evelyn Salt from the movie Salt.
Salt, . Columbiana and Hanna, . All deserve Honorable mentions. . And how do you leave out Ripley from Alien, or Sarah Conner.
Charlize Theron (Andy) & KiKi Layne (Nile) from Old Guard.
