  • Often or not, rebuilding locomotives only results in a cab change, engine swap, or hood modification. But one unit ends up losing a key part of itself, resulting in a funky-looking locomotive you can makeshift into an AirBNB, a barbeque, a dance-floor, beach deck, etc.

She looks like one of those narrow gauge SD40-2s that were used by brazillian railroads like: FCA, VLI and EFVM/Vale Railroads.

I was considering doing an episode of Remarkable Engines on this locomotive for a while, but I was holding out since there's a good chance some of the Silvis diesels might be bought by new owners after Friends of the 261 purchased the shop. Great video nonetheless.

well, if the property was sold to the RRHMA, who are currently preserving and restoring locomotives such as UP 3985 and UP 5511, maybe they realized the (current)uniqueness of 9402 and preserved it as well. one can hope...

Hi! Just wanted to let anyone who wishes to know, NREX 9402 is still around in storage at Silvis. It has two options for its fate at this point in time; 1. Being scrapped for parts, or 2. Being rebuilt and moved to another location.

The NYSW's SD33ECOs are the same. They are rebuilt from their former SP SD40T-2s and reused the frame, and have the same Goofy Ahh long porch on the back.

I remember when I first saw this thing back in 2010. I spoke to the crew, I told them “you can fit a entire FORD PINTO on the rear platform minus the rear handrails!” They had a good laugh from that. I honestly miss this unit.

I think RHMA actually it rumored to take ownership of some locomotives that were at Silvis. Idk which ones but I read an article on trains magazine and I swear I saw it say that RHMA will also get some diesel locomotives from the Silvis facility!

I dont know how much info there is on it, but it'd be nice if you did a bite sized oddity on WC 3018. The unit itself is normal, but it wears three different paint schemes. There's a VMV patch, and even the SCL colors had a CSX marking on the other side, so it's basically 5 companies in one locomotive at the same time. The ultimate frankenloco.
