Felt some lag in energy and digestion for 3 weeks but after it’s peace, harmony and clarity of mind instead of the adhd like feeling on coffee
I heard Huberman talk about this on the best morning routine. Glad to hear the evidence is lacking because my first morning coffee is like a hot tub for my soul.
What an apt description. 😌
I'm beginning to suspect Huberman is an industry plant to muddy the waters and complicate things and that would also explain why he's heavily pushed by the algorithm.
It seems Huberman is losing his credibility..
@@danmartinez9497 he had credibility? Or was it just assumed based of him being a scientist?
@@danmartinez9497 I like Mike, but I'd trust Huberman to make sense of the facts before Mike.
I’ve tested it, personally, delaying caffeine did nothing for me.
* BUT I do try to avoid carbs/ sugar first thing in the morning.
Wake up…..water and Coffee, with stevia and a bit of nut milk.
Around 9-10 AM I’ll have 1-2 eggs and nothing else until lunch. As long as I do this I have tons of energy all day!
I am listening to this while sipping my beloved morning coffee. I only do one cup a day. It’s always nice to hear good news about my good habits.😀
Don’t you worry about having to depend on it?
It's only 1 cup of coffee.@@RockyXu
I saw Huberman's advice, but I just refuse to give up my first thing coffee! Love it too much. I also can't drink coffee after about 1 pm or my sleep is messed up. The only exception is when I have a migraine.... caffeine really helps my pain. So, in that instance, I drink a coffee or two no matter what time of the day it is.
I like my early morning coffee too!
10 years with ME/ Fibro. I occasionally use a good coffee specifically to help me re energise. I drink it, 20 minutes later I can use the reaction to get me motivated again. 👍
I was having high cortisol symptoms when I was drinking coffee first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (hot flashes, increased tinnitus). I'm a life long breakfast skipper so I've been doing this for decades, problems only started about 2-3 years ago. Eating something (anything) before ingesting any coffee in the morning completely eliminated this problem.
Thank you for sharing because women are a little bit different with our hormones from what I’m finding out in general so many weird things happen. I was watching a Asian beauty skin care routine and they always suggest coffee after meals but if you think about it if you fast until like 12 or one and then do the coffee for the evening push I feel like it’s the best combination. What do you think?
@@yazzy1979 unfortunately, I can't sleep if I drink coffee late in the afternoon, I'm finding it easier to adjust to eating earlier in the day SO I can drink my coffee in the morning, which I really enjoy.
@@toddvazquez5358 so 1 o’clock is considered late to you and affects you in a negative way?
@@yazzy1979 Yup.. everyone responds differently so if that works for you, stick with it.
@@yazzy1979I think that you've been fasting all night and should stop skipping breakfast. I never understood why people do that. If you ate dinner and went to bed, you wake up in a faster state. Why extend that? Just eat something light.
I'm giving it a go this week. I've been drinking two pots a day for 40 years. I think it's time to suffer and walk a way
I delay having caffeine. Always have. Not because of any study, but because while I like caffeine, I refuse to ever become one of those people who “cAn’T FUnCtIon wiThOut mY CoFfeE” 🙄
Addiction is cringe, no matter how socially acceptable it becomes. Just look at Eastern Europe and alcohol.

I do this because I'm really lazy right when I get up. Mornings are rough for me.

Coffee is the #1 promoted behavior promoted by Money Power Empire Media, Inc. That is ALL I need to know. ;-)
Coffee is a stimulant that masks and enabled organic energy depletion so that this depletion doesn't get addressed ASAP.
Coffee is acidic... it will burn up alkaline minerals that could otherwise support your Mg-ATP production -- producing more organic energy.
Coffee also increases calcium in the blood per Dr. Hal Huggins, DDS (he did over 100,00 blood tests for clients and was put out of business for highlighting the toxic processes promoted in dentistry).
Organic energy > stimulant / addiction.
do true, spot on. the first thing they do when they walk into office is to press button of coffee machine. worse than junkies
I usually do 3,000 steps before my first coffee, always make she leave that 9-hour gap for proper sleep! Great advice as usual!
I do not have a normal caffeine response lol, I can drink a large tumbler of coffee and go to sleep. I take a full spectrum liquid supplement regimen to help with things like bone density. Always a balancing act!
Same. Had a double shot and went straight to sleep. It doesn’t help that I was about to overhaul my home filing system. 😅
My mother is like that too, and she has severe metabolic problems.
I'm the same. I can drink coffee all day and go to sleep just fine. I stop at 6:30pm most days. I work till 11 pm.
Yeah it's colloquially called "The ADD Coffee Nap."
I experimented with different source of caffeine and removing coffee completely. First, I removed coffee for 4 months than I tried regular coffee and different energy drinks to see if the source had different effects. At the beginning, removing coffee caused the usual side effects (sleepiness, headaches,...) but after a while I experienced reduced joint pain and almost no soreness after a hard training session. After reintroducing coffee, joint pain and soreness came back. I did not had the same effect with energy drinks (was using guru brands and other organic energy drinks). So the questions that came to my minds are 1. Is there other advantages to removing coffee than fixing sleep issues? 2. Is there something else in coffee that could be harmful than just caffeine?
Chemicals being sprayed on coffee, like on all other things
Maybe the diuretic effect is leaving your more dehydrated than you might realize? i know when im dehydrated it can come with extra aches and pains from the gym.
pestisides, molds, insects not to mention anti nutrients that cause vitamin deficiency. yet this ashole somehow doesn't want to talk about any of that
The world's billion coffee drinkers probably enjoy a morning cup(s) for one of two reasons: 1. Stimulant. 2. Laxative.
Taste
I tried the delay of my morning coffee, and love the results! I won't go back. N=1
Definitely keep the beard ...looks great on you❤❤
The only reason I delay caffeine in the morning is just so I can prioritize water so that my organs have a chance to wake up instead of the placebo effect you get in the brain since it takes about a half hour for that caffeine to kick in anyways
I had to quit coffee because I couldn’t wait on drinking itI use the sauna every morning and it’s best to hydrate with clean water before. I honestly don’t mis it anymore after a few months of nasty withdrawal
I love coffee too, thank you for doing a coffee video! These are always appreciated ☕🖤
Your episodes always leave me feeling inspired and motivated. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!
A good cup of hot creamy coffee is one of life's pleasures.
For the best result, my personal experiences tell me to drink it not on an empty stomach, and not when dehydrated, or else I can feel irritable. Electrolytes from quality salt first thing in the morning helps.
Fellow doctor cut caffeine and got pregnant naturally in her 40s and carried to term. Twice. N=1 I know but there is a clear analog: theophylline, and it causes myriad issues. I love caffeine, but I treat it with the respect it deserves.
Was she having trouble getting pregnant before? I have heard that caffeine can affect menstrual cycles as well.
Hate to break it to you but getting pregnant at 40 really isn’t that big of a deal. I know lots of women who had babies in their 40s. I had my last baby at 38 and I have to be so careful because if my husband even looks at me I get pregnant. My mom had her 6th child at 39. My friend just had her last baby at 44. Plus lots of women are choosing to have babies much later successfully.
@@axlesolace6502 yes she was, and had other issues too but she’s an amazing colleague, mother and friend, blessed.
@@itscool770 It is well known that reproductive problems that lead to birth defects, miscarriages and even death scale with age, in addition to sterility (the age of your eggs) and these all happen to reach peak in your 40's, not long before menopause. It stimulates my heart into a-fib. Chocolate which has caffeine affects me the same way. 1 Hershey's kiss is enough to do this.😢
Thanks Mike. Great podcast!
Thanks
My bowels enjoy a glass of water and large cup of black coffee first thing in the morning, not something I want to delay for later.
Right with you
LOL
Increasing hypertension is not really surprising, I heard quite a while back that caffeine constricts(shrinks) your arteries, so obviously, that would increase blood pressure. I've been measuring my BP regularly and it does seem on those days when I have more coffee are the days with higher readings .... just my experience there.
Thanks buddy
p450 in liver, there is another one in nervous system, forgot what thta is called, was a great paper on that, the subjective nature and how it ties to those two snp expressions, fast vs slow metabolizers.
Garlic has a worse effect on me than coffee.
I delay caffeine intake bc I'm quite alert in the morning. I never have a 2nd cup but i do enjoy that first cup which i usually drink at around 11am.
My first cup is around 4:00 AM. I am the only one up except for the dogs and it's so quiet. Sometimes I sit on the porch with the dogs and watch the sun come up, it takes another cup of coffee for that LOL.
I do several detoxing (incl. 2-3 day fast) per year. Every time I only drink water and go through withrawal symptoms mostly from stopping the coffee. After day 1, I always start feeling better. After I complete the fast I always obstain from drinking coffee for a longer period, sometimes months. For me it has an addictive nature, also a social aspect especially at work or with friends & family. Even a feeling of rewarding myself for hard work with that tasty treat. Never sweatened though. It‘s still an addiction and with eliminating all processed foods and sugar, it‘s the only treat I still indulge regularly.
Very interesting thanks
Very helpful. Thankyou Mike.
I’ve recently thought about using both caffeine and nicotine. For instance morning coffee and nicotine before working out. Would recommend this?
I swear by this personally, but haven’t heard anyone else recommend it…yet. For now, this shall remain completely antidotal.
I reckon a lot of what Hubes says can be debunked such as this delaying caffeine intake myth, He often cites low quality studies which have hardly any test subjects and then makes recommendations from them. I can't take much of what he says seriously.
Half a pot of organic Death Wish whole bean robusta coffee when working a double, organic whole bean Lidl Honduras medium roast under normal conditions, and half a pot of organic whole bean Blue Horse 100% Kona on the weekend when I crave that smooth flavor without necessarily needing the effect. Honorable mention for Explorer Daydreamer organic cold brew "decaffeinated" coffee.
Excellent content.
I mix up different pre-workouts for leg days which usually have between 300 to 400mg. Seems like a lot, but I'm 230 lb and I haven't noticed any issues. I have two leg days a week so that's the only caffeine I take for the entire week. My workouts are also at 4:00 a.m. so it's long out of my system before bed. For upper body days I take stim free pre-workouts.
I innocently love the ritual, flavor, aroma and social activity relating coffee and coffee making (Italian heritage) - the caffeine, while not a main motivator, is a bonus.
I have a negative relationship with caffeine. It's a substance I am dependent on, physically and mentally. When I go without, I get major headaches and other withdrawal symptoms for a few days. Just as a matter of preference, I don't want to be dependent on much more than food and water. But addiction is tough.
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go!
Have a great day❤
Hey mike i have a urgent question. I have a good friend who got her wisdom teeth removal surgery and the doctors are telling her that she needs another surgery although she said she feels much better.
I recommend fasting to help heal and it would be awesome if you could make a video for people like her. She is from seattle too and doesn’t get much sun. Thanks Mike
I have felt the effects of dehydration on my skin after having coffee, I once was going to get a PRP treatment and didn't know I wasn't supposed to consume caffeine, it took a while for my blood to come out compared with the other times I didn't drink coffee.
Enjoying the strong Davidoff Espresso 57 black coffee while watching this. ☕ #coffeetime #espresso #relaxing
as far as i understand, there is no "caffeine crash". it simply blocks adenosine receptors, suppressing fatigue, ie we get tired throughout the day due to accumulation of adenosine, from atp breakdown, caffeine binds to receptor without activating pathway. thus as caffeine is metabolized, gradually the fatigue that was not felt due to caffeine binding, becomes... well felt. been a decade or so since i went through caffeine studies, but back in grad school i picked the brains of several cardiovascular researchers as well as neuro scientists, takeaway was that i kept drinking my morning coffee. think of this, nordic cultures, they consume most caffeine of any culture (i think), probably due to day/night cycles, anyways, pretty healthy population in general.
I feel like a cup of coffee does nothing to me to energize me. It's more of a habit that I enjoy dearly. The taste and I do indulge in a cookie with my coffee which I know is bad but there's few things in life that make me happy this is one of em
I feel you on that coffee and cookie combo! The bitter to balance out the sweet is such a satisfying combo.
I prefer coffee with a croissant or a pan dulce to really stretch out the time of this little indulgence ritual 😂
@@katyasehryn8810 lol yum. And my favorite is biscochito or a biscotti.
I drink my coffee black with a little coconut oil and a dash of cinnamon I tell myself I'm allowed the cookie since I don't use sweetener or cream 🤪
I have my doubts bc many people say that but yet none of them wants to drink decaf🤷♂️
Years ago I used to dunk gingersnap cookies in my coffee. Gave up the unhealthy foods years ago.
I drink decaf when I want coffee later in the day. Dark roast decaf tast more like regular coffee to me.
Does taking creatine with or close to caffeine intake reduce its absorption or effectiveness?
I’m listening to this while taking the long way to work so I can buy a cheap and strong servo coffee
I saw a coffee study that showed black coffee can spike insulin but eating a high protein breakfast can negate this lol. I drink coffee with powdered creamer and have two eggs over easy every morning lol. I drink about 3/4 to one pot of coffee throughout the day with water and two supplement drinks. I find caffeine and marijuana work well together. I use marijuana medicinally.
Oh shoot I drink black coffee
All I drink is water and black coffee.
Does this happen to anyone else? If I have a lot of caffeine, my blood sugar crashes really soon after. For instance, I like a strong cup of coffee before I work out but it seems like within 20 minutes I'm shaking and sweating and hypoglycemic. Even if if I try to eat well before hand, it's like I blow through my blood sugar a lot quicker when I'm caffeinated
Have you actually checked your blood sugar with a glucometer to confirm it's low?
All I know is if I wait to have my coffee AFTER I eat a high protein breakfast, I feel so much better VS the days I have caffeine first.
I take a clean preworkout every morning, no more than 350mg a day and it really keeps me productive. I only drink that exact amount and I’m good all day. Glad it’s not so bad for us
So we have the circadian rhythm going on a 4 hour cycle (sleep cycle) throughout the night, and the same could be said about cortisol levels going in high/low waves depending on food/consumption and environmental stress (should be aware of during the day), plus the body's response to caffeine (which can last between 1.5hrs to 9hrs)... You really need to know your body (and life-style/schedule) well enough to know when it's best for you to consume coffee.
I know I'll always get the afternoon crash, no matter if I take coffee/caffeine in the morning or not. The afternoon crash always follow after a heavy lunch meal. Drinking coffee first thing in the morning is a no-go if I am going to have a stressful day, because caffeine gets me too-wired when encountering stressful events. Coffee though, does help me relax after a hard day work. Imo, maybe my body's handling of stress is what makes or breaks it, not so much the caffeine itself. It's a stimulant after all, so it's your call as to "when" it's right for you to take it.
It's not the caffeine that causes dehydration but the sugars added to it.
Can you develop a coffee allergy? After happily drinking coffee (all forms) all my life, I start coughing to clear my lungs as soon as I have some. Any ideas?
I quit caffeine and feel much better
I love coffee, but if I drink it habitually, after a few days I will feel like I'd rather die than get out of bed. I never felt that way until I tested it and it takes three days in a row (1 cup in the morning) to have that groggy effect. I wonder if lots of people live like that without knowing the caffeine could be to blame.
Now I make sure to skip a day if I have coffee 2-3 days in a row.
Mutton Chop Mike in the house 🤙🤙
I felt hubermans caffeine approach worked well
So Dr Huberman's research is incorrect on the adenosine receptors facts/data?
Does it really raise triglycerides ? I believe it might...for unfiltered joe.
I have coffee from my own machine before i go to work to save me $5 from the overpriced cafe. I don't care about timing.
Did I miss you addressing dehydration?
Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor. Not good for you if you have endothelial dysfunction. Caffeine also competes for metabolism with estrogen and copper iirc?
Is elevated cortisol the reason why over training syndrome can cause depressive symptoms?
I don't know anybody that exercises and has depression from it. For me exercise makes me fell better even when I am a little sluggish.
I drink 1 large coffee with 1/4 cup of cream, stevia, 10g collagen and 45g of whey protein each morning and a pre-workout with 250mg in the evening. Sleep like a baby and extremely healthy @ 50+. I'm not sensitive to it though. My wife is affected differently. No tea due to the oxalates.
Ehh this research can say all this but I know my body and caffeine/preworkout makes me dehydrated and sometimes even cramp. Also preworkout created extreme hunger rollercoaster rides and led me to exaggerating my bingeing tendencies and gain weight
This guy speaks the truth, source? I was the caffeine.
👍🏻
Sleep so important although the evidence isn’t really conclusive it’s not worth risking it tbh but to each their own 🤷♂️
Makes me feel dehydrated
Delay caffiene works for me. Too bad its not science.
Start your coffee, do your shit-shower-shave routine, then have your coffee 🤪
Delaying coffee 120 minutes in the morning means delaying getting anything done by 120 minutes.
Cytochrome and half life! KILLER DETAIL..Kudos
I have stopped drinking/eating caffeine in all forms for about a year now. Never going back. Dump coffee and delete caffeine from your life. You will enjoy sleep and reduce anxiety.
I drink it everyday. studies show more coffee=longer life span. there is no limit to the benefit.
That is proof enough for me.
Idk you can throw all these words at me. But I tried delaying my caffeine and it definitely gives me more of a consistent and nicer high. Like evidence shmedvidemce. If it works for you then why not just do it. If waking up and having caffeine immediately doesn’t make you feel good or does give you more of a crash then who cares if there’s no “evidence” for it.

Caffeine = 🙂. Caffeine Anhydrous = 😎
Dehydrating? It may stimulate some people's bladders, that's all. If you were lost in the desert and had no fluid to drink except black coffee, would you drink it? Of course you would and you'd live, but you'd be wired and pee a lot, that's all.
So …. coffee good?
I was one of those that could drink it and fall asleep, the positive benefits of coffee for me were so minor that I noticed all benefits from giving it up entirely. I was drinking 6+ cups a day, because it was habit to make one whenever changing tasks or being hungry or thirsty, and it calmed my nerves. The problem is that all the issues it was resolving were simply addiction withdrawal symptoms, so by removing it from my day, I no longer have the desire to make a coffee at all or the nervousness that needs to be calmed.
Why bother even drink coffee if you had to wait two whole hours after waking??!!
