I think the GMK's have a specific market for it. They are for folks who can afford them. Akko is also on different segment. Personally, I cant afford GMK's so this a good alternative. This is currently mounted on my board.

I'm really glad Akko made this so affordable for people (love the case it comes in as well). Using the same color scheme doesn't bother me one bit... its just color. Now if they used the same artwork for novelties, then I'd call shenanigans. Anyway, I have the GMK, SA and Akko set and like them all for different reasons, the indigo/blurple color is hard to find for keycaps.
I know Im late on this but those "random" cutouts on the keycap stems is for the manufacturing tooling. It helps prevent deformation and warping with the doubleshot PBT that some other keycaps are known for.
Another reason to get the Akko is that its PBT instead of ABS. I dont like the idea of spending $150+ on key caps that develop shine after a couple months of use.
The purple and blue are perfect. They may not be the exact color, but they pass and I’ll never know the difference. The pink is wretched. Unfortunately I have a keen eye for subtle differences in hue and the pink is intolerable. That said, that’s just accents. Even if you bought genuine GMK the reds/pinks aren’t in the base kit iirc. In other words I don’t even need them, and this set is bomb af The keyboard community is toxic. They shit on anything inexpensive, but “cheap” and inexpensive are not the same things. We can’t all be doctors, writers and software engineers. I’m grateful to Akko for bringing beauty to the mass market.

I've got actual GMK Laser on group buy and I still bought this. Because of the GMK delay I got tired of waiting. My view on clone sets is still evolving but I'm kind of in the camp that as long as they don't copy all the way down to the mods it's pretty much fine. There's straight up more demand than there is availability, and some sets seem near impossible to get since their GBs ended ages ago.

I think it's really great and even essential that sets with similar colour-ways exist, so long as they don't copy the artwork/novelties. There are so many colours that I would love to find generic keycaps for that I can only imagine but haven't even seen a brand name set for them. So when I start searching for the said colours, sometimes I find out about some sets that have been made by different companies at different times as limited sets or maybe are even being made now at a very high cost. It is a very elitist idea to restrict colourways that can be manufactured.

The eva 01 colorway is unlike anything else on the market. The color matching with the actual character and the quality is unmatched by anything available right now. If it had novelties it would be god tier, but it is still amazing.
I have both keycaps DROP + Mito GMK's on my Drop Signature Series Ultrasonic KB and these from Amazon on my old Corsair K95 RGB. The Akko Neon have tons of defective stems .. so I kept ordering a few sets until I had a clean full set. Amazon has a great return policy.
Akko also have another keycap set called Macaw. It's a clone from Gmk Nautilius R1. Unfortunately, I can't find that on Taobao(their main online selling market rn), but they might be back on stock in anytime soon
Just ordered me a pair of those. GMK is all nice and dandy - especially since ABS is way better then it's reputation - but I really feel they've become more of a collectable status symbol then anything else. I rather ruin my 50€ caps in day-to-day use. :)
When I got into the vape scene in 2012 we had the same debate regarding clones. Whilst I won't go into ethics I would like to point out that more accessible pricing makes the market grow which means more people gettting into mechanical keyboards and further innovation in the long term.
Bought the samurai set off amazon to test out on the KBD67 lite set. Its really nice for the price forreal. I went with ASA profile since My first Caps were Matt3o. They're somewhat similar height wise. They sound great on the tecsee purple pandas too. Smooth typing experience as well.
One thing I've noticed with these Akko keycaps is that there are slight interference issues with regular stem pole length switches. The keycaps would hit the top housing of the switch regardless of the orientation of the switch (north or south facing); it's very noticeable when using silent switches. Whereas when using GMK keycaps, they do not hit the top housing of switches.
I feel like certain clones are OK, I have this set and I think it is OK because that color theme has became very popular in gaming set up‘s and cyberpunk type colorways are something you see in a lot more products nowadays, The GMK Olivia color theme is a different story, I don’t think those clones are OK because it is a much more unique color theme. There are lots of people who would like key caps of the lazer color way that can’t afford GMK.
This is a good alternative as not a lot of people are willing to wait for GMK sets for 6 months plus for their keycaps, unfortunately I'm one of those guys who's willing to wait. lol :p
Honestly don't think they NEED to give credit, I mean you said it yourself...the novelties and name are different. The colors are basically the same, so what. One could argue that it's "inspiration", and unless those specific colors are copyrighted, there's literally no obligation to mention the Lasers. All that aside, people just getting into keyboards can't even buy Lasers right now, so this is the next best thing.
As a consumer perspective, I couldn't care. This only benefit us the consumers and create more competition. It's only a good thing. Sure it's clear they are ripping off the original creator, but hey as I said as a consumer why should you " fanboy " over it ? They should make more clones to be honest, maybe that way the originals will make their key caps available year round. I personally don’t mind buying the originals at the higher price but I do not like waiting a whole year for my stuff to arrive, a lot can change throughout that year that you are stuck waiting for your key caps. I ordered some last year in march and they won’t arrive till 2nd quarter of 2022 so that means I won’t have them till about May, I already decided on a whole new board and now those key caps won’t match my new board… huge fucking bummer. Copying artwork/artisan/novelties is unethical, but using/re-using similar colorways is not. I would gladly shell out $150 for the real, in-stock GMK Rudy. But GMK Rudy will never be made again, so I'll wait for a GMK Rudy color clone.
They are soo cool but why are they not backlight? So dumb, there are to many key caps out that are super cool that do not take advantage of back lighting, Idk about you but I like being able to see my keys are night, RGB is cool, but its... well... Chrome don't get you home, it just gets you dome type of thing. I just want to be able to see my keycaps. Also, why aren't more boards hot swappable?
AKKO surely wins in terms of raw value, but the original GMK set is all about the colors, which on AKKO are way off. Other than that GMK yes are expensive but it's much easier to resell them, often for more than you paid. So it might be worth paying the price and support the actual creator of this set on that occasion.

Clone keycaps sets are fine because of supply and Demand. People who condemn clones are usually super elitest and privileged. They actually think that just because they payed $500 or waited 3 years for some plastic others cant' have keycaps with similar colors and worst quality. I personally would never own clones, but the elitests in the community are full of it. Acting like designers actually did something besides pick out color or that it's somehow hurting the designer when most colorways and sets won't get a second run and most people don't want to wait over a year for keycaps unless they are just getting it to flex. Also the majority of these sets are based off other things like anime etc. So who really is stealing here? Clones are for the mainstream. I personally don't use clones or gmk though. I like domikey and epbt "pbt only". I have 2 gmk sets. One shined in < 2 weeks and the other I'm afraid to take out of the box because of shine.

I agree with you on the teasing and infrequent runs with long wait times. But I don't think the scarcity is artificial. It's tough because every GMK set is essentially a custom order and the number has to be specified before they begin manufacturing. I think it definitely wouldn't be as annoying if the wait times weren't so long and it was easier to reorder previous sets without having to do another GB
@@AustinV Fair enough. I didn't truly understand the ins and outs. I guess keyboards are a pretty niche product, so mass manufacturing these things could be hard. Still, Drop does make a few sets available year-round, and Laser needs to be one of them considering how many people love the set. I will likely buy Mitolet however, just because I love purple, and Mito is a really cool person and I love his work.
I have the money for GMK, but not the patience. Im not waiting a year for some keycaps. I also won't buy resell. buying clones of keycaps that have sold out doesnt harm GMK, since they have already earned their money. Clones are the way forward

I would consider this more as inspired by the colors of gmk laser rather then knock off since they do use different artwork for the novelties.

With some of these new switches and keycaps, Akko is quickly becoming one of my favorite brands in this hobby.

There's always gonna be clones. They should just make there own dope color ways and kill the comp.

I think it definitely wouldn't be as annoying if the wait times weren't so long and it was easier to reorder previous sets without having to do another GB
@@AustinV Fair enough. I didn't truly understand the ins and outs. I guess keyboards are a pretty niche product, so mass manufacturing these things could be hard.
Still, Drop does make a few sets available year-round, and Laser needs to be one of them considering how many people love the set.
I will likely buy Mitolet however, just because I love purple, and Mito is a really cool person and I love his work.
I have the money for GMK, but not the patience. Im not waiting a year for some keycaps. I also won't buy resell. buying clones of keycaps that have sold out doesnt harm GMK, since they have already earned their money. Clones are the way forward

With the hobby gaining the traction that it has now copycat sets we're bound to happen. I think "inspired by" is OK but 1 to 1 copies are a bit shady.
