The prices on the premium EF L lenses have been dropping significantly as the RF lenses are released. I noticed that a minty EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM were around $1700 when this video dropped and now are around $1200. It is a great time to pick up the best EF L glass.
I sold my 500mm F4.5L and just purchased a brand new looking 500mm F4L IS USM version I ..... and picked it up cheap and has been covered with a neoprene body cover since purchased new in 2007.....it came with the body cover with 1.4x and a 2X teleconverters Version III ..... I didn't know what I was missing !
Audio is important on RUclips. You should also use a mic close to your mouth when you're in the frame in order to reduce background noise, echo and chair squeaks.
Hi Joe that's the reason ill not sell my 500, not worth what ill get for it, my 300 is battered I got it off a retired pro but image quality is superb, that one im giving away to a mate, never had a 200-400 but the cheap price now makes it a consideration
i dont know what whichcraft you used but i just went on mpb and the same lenses are way more expensiv than you showd. The 500mm is about 2600-3600 and the 200-400 is 4000-5000
Thanks for the video Joe! I actually just got the 500 f4 delivered yesterday. Before that, my longest lens was the 70-200 f2.8 iii. I would use either the 1.4x or 2x if I needed some extra reach. I’m okay with carrying two lenses and having a small gap in focal lengths so that’s why I eventually went with the 500 f4. Depending on what teleconverter I’m using on the 70-200, the gap between 200 and 500, or 280 and 500, or 400 and 500 is going to be manageable for me. The price of $1939 USD, rated in good condition, was also a big factor for me as it was the least expensive super telephoto I could find. Good luck on your safari and don’t forget, you can always toss a 1.4x on the 500 for 700!
also, be aware that on the new MLCs, you won't get full DPAF coverage (on my R3, it's only 80% of the sensor) and you'll get far less FPS (my R3 can do 30fps on H+, but with my 500f4 mark 1, it tops out at 14fps [accurately measured, not guessed]). It is what it is. vs the mark 2 version, 100% DPAF, slightly faster AF acquisition and AF tracking is more accurate, full FPS and much better IS (mark 1 is ~2 stops, mark 2 around 4 stops imho).

Its a great piece of kit!
Eh, the 200-400 does go to 500. It has a built in TC making it 280-560 F5.6? Or is this some mistery lens I am confused about
Yes it does, Which is why its tested against my 500mm, Sorry struggling to see your confusion with this
What aboit AF function in Video mode?
I am intrested in this lens and want make try on my R5c
Works completely fine on the R6, not sure how it would work on something from the Cineline though

I do, my chair is just very squeaky I'm afraid

In sure the prices will come back down
I was thinking of doing the same (500 to 600) bur for the mk1 its about 39% heavier so thats put me off a bit
Its a big old lens!
Hi, thank you for sharing!
Have you tried the EF 200-400 on mirrorless? Curious to see how the autofocus works on mirrorless.
I have, Will get a video together for you on it with the R6, Was there anything you wanted to know or just really the AF?
I do not like zoom lenses, I only use prime Lenses.
modern zoom lenses are perfectly fine. This isn't the 1970s when zooms sucked...
I'm happy to use either, depends where I'm going
Just purchased used 200-400mm and your videos really helped me a lot. Thank you and God bless you!
Great to hear!

I've actually just picked up a 1.4 and used it this weekend on the 500m and was brilliant!
just be aware that there is no spare parts for the mark 1 500f4...
