Raise your hand if also think this is an underrated channel unlike the mainstreams that are either about exotic food or shocking the locals with their perfect Chinese. Just pure quality and unique content that's not filled with those VPN sponsors.
One thing I really like about China is the urban parks and squares, where older people gather regularly to sing, dance, and just chill with their friends. This part of Chinese culture is much less common anywhere in the world. What a great thing it is to provide the population with all these public parks, it makes their life quality much more fun, particularly for older people and young children.
I cannot believe I only found this video now! I am born and raised in Qingtian and has lived in US for seven years. Watching the scenaries and listening to the accents in the video is just so nostalgic. Some of the things I would like to comment: 1. My grandmom used to live around the neighborhood shown in 2:34 (上店街). It is the oldest part of the town and was the town center 40 years ago. (And shame on me that I don't even know it's about to be demolished). 2. Yes, most of us have relatives/friends in China. But most of them are in EU not in US. 3. There are actually some local restaurants good for one person to have quick meal. I guess you didn't come across them because you are not in the busier side of the town. 4. Yes, the southern part of Zhejiang is just so mountainous. I think there is only one route that goes along the the river and you have to share the road with cars and trucks (very unfortunate for you). 5. Technically Qingtian (which is a 县county) is part of Lishui (which is a 市prefecture) LOL. 6. I think it's relevant to say that the government of Zhejiang Province do not access the performance of Lishui government based on economy, but rather based on the environments protection. This is actually quite unique and is a result of mountainous terrain.
Hi Catherine, I can’t believe what you are exploring, the ordinary people in the rural areas of China! So many RUclipsrs like recording the large city, like Shanghai and chongqing, thank you for sharing these to the world outside of China!
Hello Katherine! I encountered one of your videos several weeks ago. And I especially like your Zhejiang series, because it's my home province, but I emigrated at the age of five to Austria (and ever since live here). So I was curious if you will cycle through Lishui City and Qingtian County (and yes it's my ancestral home). Today I was pleased to see this video. And you might curious about the cause of the great diaspora of Qingtianese People (about 300K living abroad and currently Qingtian County has a population of 570K). There are two main reasons: 1.) Searching for opportunities and realising them (which is also the main reason for any emigrants) 2.) The harsh natural environment, Qingtian County and also Lishui City is the most mountainous region in Zhejiang (Huangmaojian/黄茅尖 with 1930 m: The highest peak of Zhejiang is also situated in Longquan County within Lishui). This area consists of: 89,7% mountains, 5,3% water and only 5% arable Land. So it was difficult to make a living because of this harsh circumstances. But because of the great diaspora and their economic support in form of investments, Qingtian County is now among the richest regions in the whole of China. I also wanted to say: I was astonished to see trough your videos, that the people especially in Zhejiang have now a great awareness of environment protection. It was very common in China that people will destroy the environment for short term benefits, neglecting the long term effects that will be longlasting and consequently leads to various expenses. The ongoing efforts of the government and the people make me very proud as an Overseas Chinese with Zhejiang ancestry. 青山绿山就是金山银山! I think you and your company is doing a great job (I would also like to know, what kind of projects your company is currently doing). Therefore many thanks for sharing your videos. Thumbs up!
I want to thank you, Katherine so much for the videos and for doing great work for China and for the world! May you make one video talk about how overseas Chinese can contribute to your organization please ?

Yes...me too...I love chicken...especially those BBQ with my secret sauce 😁 Kath, that must be the 4th or 5th times you asked the locals whether they can recommend you a local husband 🤭 Anywhere, as always, enjoyed your videos and adventures though I still have not caught onto what you actually do for a living. Cheers, and here's to Red Stallion always being steady and reliable when you need it most. P/S; That Yuyue Soy Saurce was talking enthusiastically over the open top of that soya sauce jar which begs the question on how much saliva droplets fell into that jar 😁

Cheers and keep on biking...and may red Stallion carry you steadily to wherever you go!
I visited soy sauce factory many years ago as part of my microbiology class on fermentation. It was like a small swimming pool. This is very different.
I’ve heard that Qintian is where you can find some very authentic European coffee shops, supposedly opened by those expats that have returned (or helped their local relatives to open one).
Obviously what you heard is incorrect. It would be good if the returning expatriates can served some original meals from whence they have resided instead of the mutated kind, McKentucky is not too good.
I think I know why you love chickens. Because you're a Hokie (or at least you wear the Hokie gears from time to time in the videos). I'm a Chinese Hokie who lives in the U.S. Thank you very much for what you do and for what you share with the world here on RUclips as well as via the other channels that I haven't visited. I pray for your journey. Be safe and be happy. GO HOKIES!
Was a bit concern when those construction trucks passing by next to you. Stones or rubble coming off of a car tire travelling at high speed can destroy a car windshield. Good you made it out with just dust and dirt.
Having only recently starting my youtube channel i really missed out by not filming when i lived in china for 18 months 😢 its a must for me to return next year 🎉

P/S; That Yuyue Soy Saurce was talking enthusiastically over the open top of that soya sauce jar which begs the question on how much saliva droplets fell into that jar 😁
most of my job isn't interesting enough to end up in a vlog that's why, one of these days I can do a 'week in my life' or something like that 😂
@@kats_journey_east I would be interested to watch a tour of a typical workday which might be uninteresting to you because you are living that life, but which might be fascinating to those outside of your sphere. Cheers and keep on biking...and may red Stallion carry you steadily to wherever you go!
The saliva droplets are part of the flavouring that made the soy sauce China famous.
I visited soy sauce factory many years ago as part of my microbiology class on fermentation. It was like a small swimming pool. This is very different.
You did great by helping a local to fix his flat tyre but the damage is too great.Anyway you did your best awesome
多多注意休息呀,有黑眼圈了哦
awareness of the environment makes people prosperous..👍👍

I’ve heard that Qintian is where you can find some very authentic European coffee shops, supposedly opened by those expats that have returned (or helped their local relatives to open one).
Obviously what you heard is incorrect. It would be good if the returning expatriates can served some original meals from whence they have resided instead of the mutated kind, McKentucky is not too good.
Fascinating. Never heard of this place
Hi, beauty. Welcome to my hometown, although I have left there for decades now.
Thank you for your video sharing🙏
thanks keep doing this plz
I think I know why you love chickens. Because you're a Hokie (or at least you wear the Hokie gears from time to time in the videos). I'm a Chinese Hokie who lives in the U.S. Thank you very much for what you do and for what you share with the world here on RUclips as well as via the other channels that I haven't visited. I pray for your journey. Be safe and be happy. GO HOKIES!
Glad you like the videos and glad to meet a fellow VT alumni😁😁
❤🦃🦃 Hokie Bird says, “Eat More Ham” 😊
You surprised me. The BGM at 06:30 when chicken appeared tells me you know Chinese music of lute 琵琶
Yes. I'm Chinese, but I first heard of the name 青田 in Europe over two decades ago.
You are the best China advertiser.
Thanks
有自然风光,也有人间烟火
Love you!
The people there seems to be laid back. What a great life!
Oh yeah in China if you want a laid back life you definitely should go in smaller towns instead of Beijing or Shanghai or even Hangzhou etc.
Was a bit concern when those construction trucks passing by next to you. Stones or rubble coming off of a car tire travelling at high speed can destroy a car windshield. Good you made it out with just dust and dirt.
Loving your videos, friend!
最后的小盆友好可爱,看样子应该也是抖音的深度用户。
Have a nice weekend.
the mountain bikers have some stylish goggles that look like glasses maybe try some of them with the dust
I love roasted chicken! Fun to see those chicken proudly walking on the road! The countryside is the paradise for them.
远离货车,不要跟随,也不要并行。This is a piece of quite important and sound advice.
