I wish I had time to listen to this, but I have been too busy getting ready to go on the road. My biggest fear was doing things alone. I am now going to face those fears head on. The funny part is, I am not feeling any fear about it. Instead, I am feeling free for the first time. I saved it for when I start questioning myself.
      Thanks Carolyne.

I have a lot of work to do. I’ve been caregiving since 2004. My dad passed 10 years ago, and my mom is going into a nursing home this week hopefully. I’m so burnt out, it will take awhile to adjust to living alone. I’m 66 and single forever. I’m looking forward to a new chapter, after the adjustments.
You are, and have been such an inspiration to me!

Fear is an epidemic in the US. I watched this video to try to understand why everyone is afraid of everything. You are a great teacher and have given me much to consider. Resounding yes. You’ve taught me something so I’ll try and be more empathetic when people express fear.Thank you.
My wife and I are off to spend the winter in Mexico in our van tomorrow! There’s a fear to play with! But we are experienced travelers…Cheers.

Oh, I wish I was doing that! My husband is too afraid to winter in Mexico, but I've been researching that for years and find many more positives than negatives. But I don't want to break up, even though I hate snow.

@@normaevett it’s a shame because Mexico is great. Inexpensive campgrounds $20 with all facilities tons of free truck stops on the freeways for quick overnight stops and last winter while they were freezing at Quartzsite we were swimming in the pacific. It makes for a lovely contrast, winter in mainland Mexico and summers boondocking and visiting friends across the US

I'm afraid of skunks, poisin ivy and poison algae more than of bears. Much more likely to be hurt by the former when I'm in the nature. I'm afraid of identity theft, too, but am well educated and keep learning because scammers keep evolving. (They'd be pretty disappointed victimizing me. I'm broke.) As a retired ICU RN I am very used to considering worst case scenario possibilities and it was an every day work practice to evaluate and try to prevent those possibilities. I don't think we can dismiss them but we can use those thoughts to prevent many possible disasters.
I think too many people blithely disregard or downplay issues that may crop up with solo traveling, including the actual costs of the lifestyle, what they will do if their rig breaks down or God forbid is totalled, the possibility of illness of either themselves or their pets; and yes, the crazies out there. I am more wary of nutjobs than I am of wild animals---I co-exist with bears, coyotes, and other creatures on my own property right now and find them more predictable than homo sapiens, lol.
We're only casual part-timers and wouldn't consider full-time for too many reasons to list here (most involving health issues but I also love my home and gardens) but really enjoy your channel, Carolyn. We were up in your neck of the woods last week, spent some time at Green Lakes State Park.
Thank you for a very interesting discussion---food for thought for anyone considering solo travel!

Thanks for making this video Carolyn. I have been wanting to rv full-time for 2 years now. I already sold my house and I'm starting to sell off my things in storage. My goal is to be debt free and to travel, but now that It's all starting to get real , I'm back and forth about should I do this or not. I've never traveled outside my home state by myself and my biggest fear is not encountering animals but breaking down and encountering a weird person.. I have this saying " I'd rather be in a cage with a lion than to be in a cage with a person because at least I know whats coming from the lion..but I agree with you that it boils down to having insecurities and to have a plan if worst case scenario should arise. Thanks again for putting my mind at ease. Im moving forward towards my goals.

I did have some "aha" moments. I will do these steps, thank you. One fear that has been voiced by many when I say I want to be a solo female nomad in a van at least for a while is, "What about the psychos who live out in the woods? They need food, etc. You'll be a target." I respond with it's more dangerous walking down the streets of a city than out in the National Forests/BLM land. But I guess I do need to prepare for that worst case now.
Also, I've seen in one of your videos that you hung either food or trash to not encourage a bear that was in the area. Is this something you do regularly? Is that something one should do if living in a van when in bear country?

I told my daughters if they didn't like being belittled by a boss or person of authority, a parent or guardian, put on your ear plugs, People, you are in charge of what you listen to, Nobody will care that I'm hearing impaired, I listen to what makes sense at the options and choices you do have. Nobody has to like my art, I have to like it. Nobody was born a mistake. I can't wait for a vacation!
