My thoughts also...wonder if this is what is to come. Socialized Medicine is here however It's not what it's call.... but rationing is already here. When there is a huge segment of Society who don't have to pay, won't pay or can't pay the millions of uninsured that use Hospitals as a Doctors Office and are given free medical care .. how can Hospitals operate? No pun intended.
Yeah the influx of illegals…. I was on state sponsored zooms, a large portion of the “aid” they are getting is medical care. Most of the women are pregnant, some because of being raped by the traffickers. One area (Springfield) the non-profits are spending most of their time driving them to medical appointments all over they state because they are so backed up….only going to get worse…
These hospitals were acquired by a private equity firm in 2010. Private equity buys businesses and real estate with massive loans, saddles them with enormous debt, lays off staff, and eventually strips the firms of assets , running off with the profits while leading to bankruptcies and failures. When it happens to a business like Toys R Us it is sad.hospitals, When it happens to health care, it is criminal.
The CEO borrowed 305 million dollars from MPW to buy the hospitals from the private equity firm. Then MPW bought the hospitals from CEO Ralph de la Torre. He bought a 40 million dollar yacht after that transaction. Steward also agreed to a lease agreement where rent of those hospitals was unsustainable. It appears that management of Steward is profiting from the business, but patients and MPW who owns the hospitals aren't doing so well.
This is exactly why healthcare system of other developed countries don't want for profit entities to takeover their healthcare system, i.e. profit over care. Private companies want to acquire the Veterans Affair healthcare system. It will be acquired, sold, in a series with several upper mgmt. profiting along the way.
CEO is a part of the company that owns the hospital buildings and collects rent. He literally gets rent from the hospitals, so they are $50 mil in debt to him and his friends.
The Healthcare system itself is sick, in need of an honest to goodness diagnosis. Treatment is easy to figure out. Where's the hemorrhage coming from ? Who's benefiting from this problem ?
I’ve read that the CEO of Steward recently bought a $40-million yacht, and hosted at least one significant Democratic fundraiser. The optics are not very good.
@kitandsons173 I don't dispute that there are good doctors there. In fact, if you look at hospital ratings they do well. My point was that because they cater to low income people [Mass Health etc] they cut corners as the owners want more money. How long did it take to notice these things?
Everyone wants to blame the hospitals but no one asks why these hospitals are in debt.

Maybe the CEOs salaries and their multi-million dollars yearly bonuses should be reduced.
The CEO of Steward Health Systems recently bought a 40 million dollar super yacht that costs 4 million a year to operate. Therein lies the problem.
@@HughButler-lb6zs yes, and that yacht offers him a huge tax deduction just to have it too. Lopsided rules we have.

Hospitials should never be privatized.

If you didn't weigh 300 lbs you might not have hip problems.
