"Is he like rock, or what?" Dude, he's everything. He's rock, blues, bluegrass, bossa nova, jazz, country, world music --he played it ALL, and played it well, like it was native to him. You seriously need to check this guy out. Fogelberg's well is deep.

What can I say about Dan Fogelberg that hasn't already been said? I was born and raised in Peoria, IL and we are so proud of our boy, Even if he never makes it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he already has in our eyes. There's a road named after him in Peoria, by the way. Dan was part of the pre-disco soft rock sound of the 70's. The soft rock genre was great for creating introspective songs like this one; one of my absolute favorites by Dan.

Dan Fogelberg transcends all genres! Can’t be put in a box….his music just speaks to your soul!❤

This is from his masterpiece of an album "Souvenirs". Dan Fogelberg is one of my all time favorite singers, musicians, song writer and story tellers. He should have been voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame years ago, but sadly, he has never even been nominated. You asked about his genre, I would say he is soft rock much like James Taylor or Simon and Garfunkel.

He is such a thoughtful song writer. Lyrics never wasted. Eloquent phrases and deep meaningful words. They just don't write em like that anymore!

Fogelberg is one of my all time favorites. Some are better than others, but never a bad song. Soft rock.

Dan does plenty of "rock" songs, but his more popular stuff has always been soft rock. This song was included in the soundtrack for the movie "FM" which is one of the best soundtracks you'll ever hear! (It would be a fun movie for you guys to react to as well...)

One of my favorite artists. Dan Fogelberg was such a great folk rock singer songwriter & storyteller. He also played multiple instruments such as guitar, bass, piano & mandolin. I had his double album "The Innocent Age" from 1981. He wrote so many great songs such as "Longer", "Hard To Say", "Missing You", "Make Love Stay", "Run For The Roses", "The Language Of Love", "Believe In Me", "Same Auld Lang Syne" etc. We lost him much too soon in 2007.

Asia & BJ, the only song I remember from him was "The Power of Gold" (w/ Tim Weisberg)! Wow, you came back to him so fast!

I consider Fogelberg's Captured Angel to be one of the best albums there is. The Last Nail and The River are also a couple of the best songs there are.

Dan Fogelberg's star was hung pretty much smackdab in the middle of the firmament known as the soft-rock era⭐💜🎶

This is one of those songs that lulls you into a hypnotic state, beautiful waltz vibe with sentiments we've all felt at one time or another. Love it and great take on this you guys. As far as categorizing...I would say Easy Listening or ACH (Adult Contemporary Hits).

Years ago kids there were radio musical categories you never hear of now. One was Top 40 that was the top 40 songs out on the charts and it was not about any one type of music. Another was known as MOR or middle of the road. It was music that was not too much of any one genre so it was easy listening. It could still be a variety of music genres but was more casual. I guess today Dan would be called easy listening rock.

The trouble with genres is that great artists don't respect them. They just don't fit into a box, they Follow their muse. You might hear 3 or 4 "GENRES" on one album.

I believe this song was especially poignant in a live setting with the crowd encouraged to join on the end section of each chorus (the repeated bits).

You guys really seem to like Folgelberg. Another singer/songwriter/storyteller gone too soon like Chapin, Croce, Denver and others. Some other Folgelberg songs you might enjoy...Longer...Part of the Plan....Same Auld Lang Sine...Run for the Roses....check them out. 3:24
