Hi Mam, After adding all the raw material to water, have you boiled it, if not what have you done after that
    1. Soaked it, if so, for how long?
    2. How much to apply for certain area?
    3. How long does it hold good?
    4. What are the precaution while making this ?
    5. How long does the termite mix last?

      Namaste,
We haven't boiled it. We have soaked the mix for 1 week before using it.
As seen in the video, make a grid of 1 feet by 1 feet and use 500 ML of the mix in a 0.5 feet deep hole. The applied mix in a given area will be effective till the area is kept dry. If the area is getting wet in rains, the essence of this mix will get dissolved in water and get washed away. Precaution needs to be taken while handling poisonous oduvan leaves (or whichever substitute you are using), one should not touch the mix with bare hands. The mix needs to be used within 7 days after fermentation. Read more in detail : thannal.com/termites-indian-natural-buildings/

@@vtarchitects yes, you are right, attending the workshop would be a better learning experience in person. Income from the workshop is the sole resource for funding our researches like these, salaries of artisans for experimentation and trials and sustaining everyone who are dedicating their time for spreading natural building awareness in Thannal campus in Tiruvannamalai.

The bark is life to trees. Think before use. Only chop in the east direction and vertically. After taking bark apply mud or 'yagna basma' to heal faster.

@@ThannalNaturalHomes like not to cut bark in the evening, we must cut bark which is in sunrise direction. Trees cry like humans but it's low decibels sound is not audible to humans. It was proved by Indian scientist and Nobel laureate. Krescograph. So don't harm trees just like that. There should be purpose to pluck flowers leaves. I request don't pluck all flowers from plants. The bark of tree helps to transfer required mineral water etc all the parts of plant. Remove bark around the stem, it's a unforgiving sin.

1.What is Thannal team doing presently?
a)Due to the coronavirus situation, it is not possible to have a workshop on campus. We will be starting with a free video course online - the Back Home series - through which you can learn about mud construction. This course contains all aspects needed to make a home - foundation, wall, roof, plasters and flooring.
b)We are releasing videos one by one, at a pace of 2-3 videos in a month. You can see links in the respective section, work in progress. Kindly go to the page ‘online Video course’.
c)To get updates of ‘Back Home series’ on your phone, if you are not part of our Whatsapp group, join Thannal news whatsapp channel through this link.
d)We are trying to do the series in Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi, so that more common people can also understand about such construction methods. This is our main priority work till June 2021.
e)We have started with an interview series ‘Natural builders around us’ - about other natural builders all over India studied from Thannal and continue studying by themselves. See updates in our RUclips channel playlist Natural builders around us , kindly wait until and follow the upcoming videos.

Sources of information could be useful, to add credibility to the method.
Composting around the houses in pits, reduces termites on your structure.
How are the de-barked trees doing now? Becoming compost?
I've seen several neem trees host termite growth on its own bark.

    • @ThannalNaturalHomes
      @ThannalNaturalHomes  4 года назад +3

We should take barks from trees at a very controlled limit, with application of cow-dung and mud mixture on the trunk where you take the bark. Trees regrow the bark with time and trees are doing good.
We have noticed termite growth in dry Neem barks, this is a very common phenomena in Tiruvannamalai during the dry periods of winter. Only the dead layers in barks are eaten away and after that we see a new layer of bark beneath, regrown.
