Hey Daniel, just stopped by to encourage you in your decision to try RUclips! Your presence and authenticity in-front of the camera is pretty good right off bat, even without much editing or a studio setup. I see a lot of people trying, but there are only a few where you immediately think: ‘If he sticks with it, he'll have a few 100,000 subscribers pretty quickly’. So keep going, I root for you 🚀
Thanks my friend! This comment really boosted me today reading this. Hopefully one day I'll get to your level (I peaked at your channel). By the way, I watched your video on creating a budget with excel. It's superb, I'm able to try youtube since being let go from tech because I've budgeted my money pretty well. Hope you have continuing success!
cool decision, i have a few recomandations - try to get in a niche - up the quality, 4k 60 - get good microphone - do collabs with RUclipsrs - grind hard - be consecutive, post regurally Personally I recommend getting a partner and starting a family, the time is now, don't delay. You can work and also have a family, don't choose one over the another. Strong man can do both.
Watching the last video, and then this one. I think this is a great next step I'm also envious of. The freedom of sole responsibility means it's worth the risks you can take. If that is your motivation, then that is definitely going to be exciting. I too made a youtube recently. It's going to be interesting / encouraging to watch you do this. What kind of content are you thinking of doing?
If I'm being completely honest, I want to start some type of finance channel. I've always been into personal finance since reading Rich Dad Poor Dad in my teens. I just need to figure out my specific niche because there are so many channels already out there. Managing my money has saved my ass twice from being laid off in tech so it's something I'm passionate about.
Amazing book Daniel. Thanks for sharing your story and experience with us. I have been am IT Trainer since 1988 and although I am comfortable, I need to take a leap of faith. What we believe we can achieve... Stay true to yourself Sir, all the way from South Africa.
I'm in the same boat(I'm 37). 'Been in IT for 8 years, got laid off twice. At this point trying to pursue IT feels like beating a dead horse, besides I've had side business for while. Even though the business is not doing that well at the moment, being an analog recording studio and all, RUclips might just the thing to get it going. Basically if you have something to make a "tv show" out of, or if you are a one man "tv show" yourself I can't see the reason why not! Tech sucks, especially to creative types, feels like a corporal punishment .
@@TheDanielRubio Burnout is just a symptom of a bigger problem. The system has been broken for a long time, long before we even entered the workforce. I never even wanted to get into tech and all that 9-5 s**t! I was forced into it because the music industry was already well into its decline when i got my sound engineering degree. It probably should've been YT all along i just didn't realize it.
When one of my young friends started social media, I told him wise man advice - Just do it. And never stop doing it. Believe it 100% and you will succeed. Since he was quite a long younger he trusted me on this. He now has 200k following and I envy him myself. Yet I do not have the sheer willpower and trust to follow this advice myself. I wish the same to you. Do it like you're stupid. Don't stop, have some basic plan and keep at it and you might succeed. Good luck.
What you are doing is not dumm at all, because I can hear from your heart that you feel liberated you feel free. Regaining freedom and inner peace is the best think that can happen.
I'm on a similar position. 10 YoE and I find myself struggling to look for a new job. It's not that I don't like programing anymore, I still love it, but working as a dev has changed a lot since I began. We now have to know stupid devops, frontend has become a painful experience and pretty soon AI will add even more stuff to learn which is not coding related. I just don't see an interesting future in tech anymore. I'm currently deciding what I'll do.
well I am really interested in seeing where you go. "If I were in your situation" with tech burnout and my experience I would probably just go into the family business of Arborist (Tree work) AND start a RUclips channel because it is an enticing platform. Honestly you sound and look excited to explore this path forward. Good luck 😁
Thanks for the comment friend! That actually sounds like an interesting concept for a side hustle youtube channel. Maybe you should try that, I'd watch a video or two.
Daniel, follow your heart! Try youtube and see how it goes. You have enough money and energy now. Tech is always there as an option in case thing don't work. I support your dreams all the way!!
Thanks for your comment. I consider this decision to do youtube my "product" so we'll see where it goes. I once made a Udemy course about VR and React 360 so maybe I can explore this too!
I'm not going to say RUclips is a dumb idea flat out, but I'll say it's not a long-term solution. Most successful channels leave in 7-10 years for a reason. Having gone from tech to social media to trade work: Do something that has been around for a LONG time, even as a business. Do whatever risky stuff you want along with that. The reason is you want to feel as comfortable taking BIG risks as possible, which requires a simple, low effort way of making money. It's hard to understand if you haven't hit big AND THEN lost big, but people attribute luck and fortune to competence way too much. It's far less predictable than that.
Thanks for your comment! I'll keep this in mind moving forward as I progress. I just have to give this a shot and see where it takes me, hopefully I'll be one of those lucky ones that last 7-10 years lol.
