Lanterns originated in China more than 2,000 years ago during the Western Han Dynasty. Lanterns are an ancient traditional handicraft of the Han nationality. After thousands of years of development, lanterns have developed different regional styles, each with a unique form of artistic expression. Every year around the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month, people hang up red lanterns symbolizing reunion to create a festive atmosphere. Lanterns combine painting, paper-cutting, paper-tying, sewing and other techniques, and are closely connected with the daily life of Chinese people. Lanterns have become a symbol of happiness for the Chinese people. We Chinese not only use and make lanterns during many festivals, but we also use white lanterns during funeral ceremonies.
After 3 years trapped in Australia during covid, it took a while to learn some new apps when I came back to Shanghai, for example, 大都会 for Metro. China is already cashless country, foreigners first time come to China will face difficult situations. By the way, we also pay by tapping the cards in Australia, quite convenient, unfortunately I can't use Apple-pay because of my Huawei phone.
Thank you for showing the interesting side of China. Just want to mention that the town is not really a rural side of Shanghai, more like an ancient theme site of Shanghai, pretty famous tourist spot. Rural side of Shanghai is simply the outer ring of Shanghai.
Red lanterns have great significance in China. Usually the people use it to decorate their houses on particularly festive and important days. Especially for the Chinese Lunar New Year, red lanterns are hung in every house. Just like in Christian countries, people decorate Christmas trees in their homes during Christmas.
Yeah, in China, the gov would build and renovate for free for you depending on circumstances. The entire Kashgar Ancient City was renovated and rebuilt for free after a major earthquake. It cost 6 billion. Now it is an amazingly beautiful place and popular tourist destination
I just saw a message from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs that China has decided to implement a unilateral visa free policy for ordinary passport holders from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia😀
I just saw this news also. You know China has rarely unilaterally implemented visa-free policies for other countries. In the past few decades, China has granted unilateral visa-free access to only 3 countries: Singapore, Brunei and Japan. Now China has decided to implement a unilateral visa free policy for these 6 countries, which means that China is becoming more and more open to the world.
The round réd" 'lamps" you guys were refering to - which were hanging as symbols to celebrate CNY are lanterns. They can be mansged individually, in batches or en mass by Switching the mains Cable🎉Connecting the light Bulbs to the right to the Power cable.
Shanghai is my hometown and it's a very modern city, combined with old and new things. China is such a big country with so much ethnicity, SO it means the view and your experiences will be so different in other cities. Even I have only travelled 30%(maybe) of the country. This country may have many things that make your first impression awful, such as eating weird things, CCTV cameras every where, etc. But I wanna say it's safe for people to travel here and visit different views. I'm not such knowledgeable about all these cities, but if you come to Shanghai and you want to experience local things, I can guarantee you that I can be a good guide. (because I walked a lot for my photography projects)
Your station experience reminds of my experience many years ago when I landed at the airport in Mumbai and also when I was at the station---just a few years ago---in Taiwan! I notice that the canals are green---are they clean! When I was in Bangkok some years ago, on the water taxi, they warned us not to put hands in water nor get it in mouth or eyes----pollution!! I thouroughly enjoy your vids. You do a great job of adjusting to foreign cultures.
No pollution. The water here comes from Dianshan Lake, one of the largest lakes in China. It used to be a water source for Shanghai and was known for its production of fish, shrimp, and crabs. In the 1980-1990s, industrial development caused a decline in water quality, but in the early 2000s, the government took strong measures to control pollution. Although it has not yet fully recovered to a drinkable state, there is no significant pollution anymore. To the north of Dianshan Lake, there is Shanghai's largest water sports center where athletes train in activities such as sailing and rowing. You don't have to worry at all.

@@ymhktravel I'm a japanese citizen, can I travel to China without a visa? I think it was visa free before Corona but now even japanese people need to apply for a visa 😢
@@Jin88866 In July this year, China has proposed to Japan that the two countries will allow visa-free citizens to facilitate exchanges, but it has not received a response from the Japanese government.
@@Jin88866 During Covid, Singapore visa free travel was also stopped and required visa to enter. It was only in late Jul this yr China resume the visa-free. Not sure about Brunei and Japan. I thought the restriction during covid applied only to S'pore. Anyway I didn't travel from 2020-2022 so it didn't matter.
The leaf that wraps the pork is Ruoye, which generally refers to the leaves of the family Gramineae, Bamboo subfamily, and the genus Ruozi. It looks like a small banana leaf. Chinese people use this leaf to wrap traditional rice dumplings, pork and many other foods for cooking, because the leaf has a unique aroma and can blend well with food. In addition to Ruo leaves, people in China also use leaves from plants such as banana leaves and lotus leaves to wrap various foods for cooking.
Rainy is the best weather for that town bro!
Great sharing
I love your videos! You're so positive and seem to always see the glass half full! That's why I subscribed to your channel! Please come to Japan too, lots of nice things to see here as well! Keep up the good work!
Apple Pay now supports adding Shanghai public transportation cards. This can be used for the subway, buses, taxis, maglev, and ferries.
Amazing to be able to go inside the lao ren house 😍
It's OK to come to China next time. The visa is longer. It's just a trouble. There are several Indian bloggers on the pipeline who come to China for one or two months. I remember to visit the museum next time. There are also several famous mountains in China, such as Mount Taishan in the east of the mountain, Mount Huangshan in Anwei, and Huashan in the west of the gorge. These are very famous mountains in China from ancient times to the present, In Chinese Taoist culture, it is a place for immortals to practice and practice, with many ancient buildings 😊
他們都跑到西藏去了哈哈哈,印度卻不給i任何中國人發簽證了哈哈哈
I climbed Mt. Taishan as I used to live in Taian and you could see the mountain from my office window. Very beautiful.

Hi Ken, Am loving your China vlog. Are you going to extend your stay? Hope to see more as China has so much to offer. And Congratulations for winning the Chinese lottery. 💪

Try visiting suzhou. It has back waters too and prettier
这个中国小哥的言谈举止真的真的太好了!
Great video, really enjoyed it.
At present, my suggestion for you is that the southwest far from Shanghai is also a very good choice, such as Sichuan and Yunnan
I missed China, especially Shanghai where i used to lived for 2 and half year. Definitely wants to go back again. Of course i love the stinky tofu too. During i will buy 3 or 4 portion from them and i bring my own tuberware to collect it.😅😋

Chinese people are always friendly to foreign visitors.
Seeing Ken struggling buying metro ticket every time makes my inside self screaming “just get a public transit card”😂😂😂
he struggled because he didn't do his home work.
他的中国朋友没有提醒他这些东西。

I did this day trip from Shanghai in July 2023. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and my highlight was having a Chinese beer along the canal.
Love the drone photography, Ken.
so beautiful so serene ❤
Awesome view… my word
The restaurant pork dish is either wrapped bamboo leaves or lotus leaves. From your video, the narrow long leaves look like bamboo leaves.
我为了能使用华为手机,已经放弃谷歌全家桶,包括谷歌pay,其实也没什么问题😂
除了谷歌pay外,其余Google Play运用都能顺利使用。使用华为手机后,我应该不会再使用苹果手机。@@onkycui
Apple Pay for metro better than 大都会
So Energetic!
great series so far 👍
Thank you for showing the interesting side of China. Just want to mention that the town is not really a rural side of Shanghai, more like an ancient theme site of Shanghai, pretty famous tourist spot. Rural side of Shanghai is simply the outer ring of Shanghai.
welcome to china!❤
Sooo helpfull🙏🏻🙏🏻
Red lanterns have great significance in China. Usually the people use it to decorate their houses on particularly festive and important days. Especially for the Chinese Lunar New Year, red lanterns are hung in every house. Just like in Christian countries, people decorate Christmas trees in their homes during Christmas.
Nice save - exceed your luck. We say, "push your luck."
lottery part is very interesting 🎉
It was curious. Thanks from Siberia.
Nice entertaining video Ken.....I really enjoyed watching it....
4:42 the second ticket machine actually also accepted your RMB notes :D
Yes I also noticed that haha
Haha yeah I saw that too when I edited the video 😆
Ken, actually the second ticket machine at 4:43 takes notes of all kinds of bills, ¥5 ¥10 ¥ 15 ¥20
Yeah, in China, the gov would build and renovate for free for you depending on circumstances. The entire Kashgar Ancient City was renovated and rebuilt for free after a major earthquake. It cost 6 billion. Now it is an amazingly beautiful place and popular tourist destination
I too did have some flower tea. It was lovely. So bought some and brought it home. Is this place you visited Suzho?
I just saw a message from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs that China has decided to implement a unilateral visa free policy for ordinary passport holders from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia😀
2023年12月1日至2024年11月30日期间,中国决定试行扩大单方面免签国家范围,对法国、德国、意大利、荷兰、西班牙、马来西亚6个国家持普通护照人员实行单方面免签政策。
I just saw this news also. You know China has rarely unilaterally implemented visa-free policies for other countries. In the past few decades, China has granted unilateral visa-free access to only 3 countries: Singapore, Brunei and Japan. Now China has decided to implement a unilateral visa free policy for these 6 countries, which means that China is becoming more and more open to the world.
more like they want tourist money and people to see what China really look like. It is a good thing.@@ringojk597
In restaurants, when these sealed tableware are opened, we usually rinse them again with boiling water from a nearby teapot to make them cleaner 🙏
i dont think so, thats only for those unsensitized,
Too many plastic with the sealed tableware
It’s more of a Cantonese habit actually.
The round réd" 'lamps" you guys were refering to - which were hanging as symbols to celebrate CNY are lanterns.
Lamps are home utilities gadgets with variable eilectric watts and to brighten up up the dark spaces in aroom, so a house or building orx in a town or region. by electricity.

Thank you for your nice video. The Venice of Shanhai reminds me of Hamburg. It is also called "Venice of the North" right?
That pot of water is actually used to scald your tableware. Although the tableware should be clean in theory, it is best to scald it with hot water.

You don't have to worry at all.
clean, like Taiwan lake, u Can swimming but do not drink,
Wow, beautiful view
