Episode One of this new series showcases a complete range of weird and wonderful parts that I’ll be cramming into this beige beauty. We also manage to get the basics up and running with a test bench build of the platform, including the use of 2 PSUs!

If you ever swap out one of those hard-drive cooling bays, or the floppy drive, and get a ZIP drive to replace them, I would love you to do a "ZIP Drive Overview" video, as I remember lusting after one back in the day, and just when I was finally ready to get one, everyone swapped to CD-RW, so they have always intrigued me. Thanks again for this entertaining & informative build video series.
I really enjoy your builds because you're excitement through the whole process is infectious. Thanks for this nice distraction on a Saturday afternoon. I look forward to Ep 2.
Huge thanks!
So excited to see another IMNC build series! I've got some major nolstalgia for the Hackintosh series and the Worlds Fastest G3 series haha.
Working on my own build at the moment as well - about 95% done with my maxed out 2010 Mac Pro build!
2010 Mac Pro build, nice!!! Thanks so much for the kind comment.
sat here watching te vid, with 2 fans cooling me down and no pc.. so much sympathy tom for you doing this vid in your oven
Nicely done mate, this got some old school vibes, reminds me of when I found you in 2011 doing that AMD build
Thank you man! It's giving me the old school vibes too, such fun putting these systems together. That 2011 build will forever be very special to me. Thanks for sticking with me my friend. Can't believe how long it's been!
Great stuff TOm. I think for the PSU I'd probably have bought something modern on eBay or Marketplace like a CX750, stripped it down and sprayed the back silver to match the case, and cut the sleeving off the cables. Safer and a lot more power efficient, especially running a big GPU. The FSP stuff is good though. Love the fact you're putting a floppy drive in the system, I miss the sound of a floppy seeking during post. Old PC noises were great, people don't know what they're missing these days.
Thank you, Ashley! I'm really hoping that with the floppy drive connected, a PC speaker and the 80mm fans, I should get quite an old school sounding system. It won't be perfect but a lot closer than a typical PC of today.
Tom, if nothing else you can be pretty sure no one else in the world has a pc like that one. You are certainly blazing your own trail with the "Biege Beauty/Beast". Thanks for the madcap build. 😄
I haven’t seen Tom on a video in forever!
Hadn't seen anything from you since the 2014 mac mini upgrade a couple of years back and suddenly this pops up in the feed, and what a treat it is :)
@@h.b.5577 RUclips has been doing that. It’s my fault for taking such a long break. There’s a chunk of videos people have missed out on. Glad to have you back, hope you enjoy!
@@ItsMyNaturalColour Yeah youtube's feeds have been anything, but reliable since at least 2016. On the plus side at least I certainly appreciate the sudden backlog I can go through, especially that 3h mac pro video!
@@h.b.5577deffo!! Hope you enjoy 😀
Lovely system Tom, always a nice feeling when the system just boots first time.
Old School case requires old school engineering and by that I'm referring to the 2 PSU's as that's what we always use to do :D
Thank you Tony!!
I would go for a more modern power supply and simply repaint it. Can even remove the sleeving but don't see the sleeving as a problem because it will match the modern components inside.
Looking forward to seeing episode 2 👍
The anticipation was real with this one, always an enjoyable watch keep this content coming tom!
Thank you!! I’ll get cracking on the next part asap.
Nice to see you uploading again Tom, been watching your channel for almost 10 years now and so looking forward to the rest of this series! A tip about the AMD cooler fan, you can unscrew it from the actual metal part of the cooler and screw it back on in any orientation (like with the logo at the top). Hope to see part 2 soon :)
This is amazing, massive thanks for the tip! I will do that in Episode Two 😀
So glad to catch a nice long episode from you on a Saturday night! It brings me so much nostalgia thinking of relaxing the very same way back in the PowerPC Promise days - I can't believe how fast time has gone by :')
Really looking forward to seeing how this build takes shape. It's giving me LTT Scrapyard Wars vibes with the two PSU jank :D
I had no idea you had a discord server until now, amazing! I'll need to join asap!
@@lindsaymobil22 thank you! 🙏
so happy you can use the parts
They’re all coming in handy for sure. Great stuff!
A new video from this legend is amazing 🎉😊
The hot weather has been rather unbearable if you're in a poorly ventilated room. So humid! Our houses aren't built for this in the UK! My office is south facing and has an end wall in the back yard (it was an end terrace at one point then they built more later) so it just soaks up all the heat from the sun during the day and radiates it into the room, but doesn't get enough time to actually cool properly. It's horrible! I'm seriously considering one of those fancy wall mount AC units. Having the computers on and a bunch of monitors doesn't help either lol.
Yeah absolutely. It's very uncomfortable at the moment. AC would be a dream but it's just so crazy expensive. I know it would be an absolute pig of an install in my house too. It would be very destructive. Fan is the best I'm going to get I think.
If I had a normal window I'd deffo give a portable AC unit a whirl, but with only the skylight miles up in the roof, I don't see any way of venting that AC unit.
Another great vid Tom, loving the overhead cam!
Thank you! It’s made quite the difference, usually my angles suck. I feel like this is the first time I’ve done a build where you can see what I’m doing.
e02, e02, e02, e02? next please :)
Had you not considered buying a modern unit then dismantling that and respraying the case? Would get rid of some of the adaptors and if you managed to get something modular you could replicate the coloured cables with coloured sleeves
I will be sure to address this question in Episode Two as I've had similar questions.
personally i would go the other way have the Seasonic power the graphics card for cleaner power delivery and under load the graphics card might struggle more with the fireball, and a budget motherboard and low watt cpu wont need as much power as that graphics card will.
Mate some reason you remind me of Gandalf must be natural colour your hair , nice vid mate :)
Haha brilliant ! Thank you 🧙♂️
I don't think you'll know for certain if the second power supply is working well with the rx580 until you try playing a game. I believe the gpu will post on motherboard power alone.
Interesting! I'll be sure to crank heck out of it at the end of the series. We'll soon see what pops.
I trust the CPU is a low wattage chip, nice idea to have seperate power going to the graphics card as long as its enough, you may find the stability or performance gets throttled by the lack of power. using old school ketchup and mustard power supplies who cares the case doesnt have a window, thermal paste application again who cares only rule in my book no such thing as too much but too little is bad, although there is a risk of mess with too much.
Doris Mill
its very odd seeing a custom water cooling company having a passively cooled nvme heatsink product.
Oh hello!
How you planning to fit a second power supply,? the case doesnt have an optional second power supply mount. and who is Brian?
I'll be attempting to mount the second power supply underneath the 3.5" drive cage. If that fails, I'll mount the second power supply on top of the PC case.
You can't put a new power supply into a grey case?
@@dangs4m230 you can, ATX hasn’t changed, but I wanted the authenticity of the older silver PSUs.
When I see you suffering like this in the heat, the first thing I would buy is an air conditioner ;)
I would love one, but sadly I have no window or way of getting the pipe outside from this room 😭
@@ItsMyNaturalColour Too bad, it will be a big investment, good luck with the heat.
Youll wanna undervolt that gpu, they get bloody loud under load 🤣
Oh good!! I’m worried this system is going to be too quiet. I want it nice and authentically whirry like the old beige systems back in the day.
@@ItsMyNaturalColourwhirry sure, but i have that exact card. It aint whirry its a full blown jet engine 🤣
If i get the time ill pop my mac pro on again and get a recording, its laughable
So Santy Claws is an albino, interesting 😂
😂
Insane to see more iMNC content these days, esepcailly these kids of build videos for sure! The only thing I'll say/potentially warn you about Tom...I know you went with these PSUs for their authenticity. But I would put money on it that they will fail at some point on this kind of hardware, and potentially take out hardware at the same time. You wanna check the rails on them as well, as older PSUs from this kinda era actually did a lot of their wattage on the rails that aren't imporant these days. Wouldn't be surprised if they only do 150-200w or so on the 12v rail.
Thank you!! Great fun doing this stuff.
Thanks for the heads up. I actually address that at the end, the Seasonic does something like 310W on the 12V rail and the Fire Bull does 276W. I calculated the draw and we should be all good. The Seasonic isn’t actually that ancient. I remember when I was building the Doom PC in 2016, you could still find silver PSUs as a ‘no frills’ offering from a few of the manufacturers.
Potential for failure is definitely high though I completely agree 😂
@@ItsMyNaturalColour That's completely fair then Tom yeah. I still wouldn't trust them to actually do what they claim on the label or last particularly long on this kind of hardware. But at least you already considered that anyway haha.
Please keep content coming whenever you can. I can't tell you how much I've missed proper IMNC content over the years man.
Hey, you're copying me! Except for putting Windows on it. Yuck to that.
Oh am I? Awesome!
I'm going to run a Windows 2000 theme, will that help at all do you think? 🤔
@@ItsMyNaturalColour Can't hurt!
Do you still have your MDD Hackintosh?
I sold it a few years back.
