- After the release of Rekordbox 6, many folks raised concerns about whether they had to subscribe or not to the new subscription system introduced on version 6. Today, I explain when the software is free, and when it will need a subscription plan, as well as the features of each of the three plans available.

@@priyonjoni The point is that almost every dj doesn't play only with its own console but when we work at bars and clubs we are mostly using the cdjs of the bar! And now smartass Pioneer wants us to pay every month to use its own hardware?? Something like Netflix...

I agree.. It's litearally a WORLD recession right now. I think the timing with the Rb6 release was great! All dj's (pro or not) are at home right now. I honestly didn't find anything useful in the paid subscription versions. So I'm rocking dat free version for now...
I’ve been a Serato user since I started. As time goes on there has been a serious temptation to move over to Rekordbox. It’s been on my mind that Pioneer DJ May be favoring their software (Rekordbox) over Serato equipped hardware. As I have no real proof of this, it’s still a huge factor.
Since the release of Rekordbox 6 with the various paid plans available it was a little confusing on what to get for hardware.

Hi, Im still a bit confused, i have a xp1 & ddj 400 & djm 900 nexus 1, & cdj 2000 nexus 1, is rekordbox 6 apart the cloud & that kind of stuff is it any different to rekordbox 5.. im using rekordbox 5..

HI! I paid for video option in 5.8.5 will not pay extra so i can play video in version 6.0. I have the ddj-rx and the xp1. video quality in version 6.0 is the same they have not fix it.

Luke Phillips depends what your budget is and how big you want to go. The three choices are DDJ-400, DDJ-800, and DDJ-1000

thanks for the video PJ, my ddj 200 just arrived and I have a Loooooooong way to go to be where I want to be as I song selector for mates weddings and 21sts, but knowing that with a laptop(which I don't own yet) this unlocks free software that supports streaming services* this will certainly help me travel in the right direction I'm sure.
*could you recommend a streaming service thats supported by rekordbox?
the only streaming option avail for droid is Edjing, which the Edjing app is self seems insanely expensive and you have pay for soundcloud or deezer on top of that??? where the YT Music support y'all.

On the free plan it says that you can’t save edited songs. Does that mean that my queue points won’t be saved?

Hello Thank you for this video! so I'm not planning on using the new cloud features and whatnot, I just want to use the same thing I've always been using on Rekordbox 5. I use a DDJ 400 and plan to use like XDJ-RX2 in the future. I have like 1000 songs with various hot cutes and memory cues. This saying should I just download Rekordbox 6 on the same laptop and all my cue points will just transfer somehow? and forget RB5, I just want to use all normal stuff I've been having on 5 like recording mixes. and should I just delete 5? I'm saying this because what if there is an update on my windows os, like will I be able to open 5 at all?
Austin Ngo you can I y’all 6 without deleting 5. With the hardware you are using, you will be able to use the performance features with no problem. It will ask you if you want to transfer your library from 5, or start with a fresh library.
It’s highly recommended whether on Windows or Mac that you don’t update your operating system until a supported version of the dj software is issued. This is just the reality of all software updates, and it is the same when it comes to Traktor, Serato, or Ableton. It might work, or it might not.
Go ahead try 6. If you want to stick to 5, you could always delete 6. You will find that 6 is not visually too different from 5. We made sure to design it so RB users aren’t overwhelmed with the new software.
Eventually support for 5 will stop so you may aswell jump to 6, pioneer really have gone for a cash grab here.

Yes. When you convert your Rekordbox 5 collection to the new Rekordbox 6 format, it will transfer hot cues for you. Before upgrading, make sure you backup!
So I’m good to use performance mode with my DDJ-200 as long as the DDJ-XP2 is hooked up?
Ramiro Moreno Jr that is correct. As long as you have at least one hardware unlock device connected, every rekordbox compatible device will work to the extent of the unlocked features.

can you do the hid mode with the cdjs and interface 2 ? im thinking to get one instead the xp1
Heinrich Carreon check in the website, Support > Compatible DJ Units. If “DJ control” is indicated as “FREE”, then you will be able to use HID mode.

Hello, if I have the DDJSZ and I buy an XP1 or XP2, could I unlock the software and use the DDJSZ as a compatible control?
Dj Dny double check on the website if the DDJ-SZ is listed on the Compatible Units page. (I’m aware the SZ is cross platform). If it is compatible, then yes, the XP1/XP2 will unlock performance mode for that device.

I used a mapped non-pioneer mixer on rekordbox 5 and it works, so I have to plug xp1 or xp2 in, to use my mapped non pioneer mixer to use dvs control? im freaking out this new subscription plan let me think to switch to Serato...
if you need to sync just use google drive simple across all platforms. just ad folder to box traktor etc
I have the pioneer 250mk2 which is a hardware unlock device for rekordbox. Since the 6.4 update they occasionally lock out my system and send a notification saying I need to subscribe, which at this point I'm frustrated enough to say this is bullshit because I dont want a subscription and shouldnt have to pay for one because of my mixer. Any advice on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated because I am underwhelmed with the amount of information on rekordbox anywhere else online. Please and thank you.

I have the pioneer ddj 400 with the license, so I can't use my DDJ 400 license with the rekordbox 6?
Jeremie Bell the DDJ-400 is listed as “hardware unlock device”. Therefore it does not require a subscription to use rekordbox 6. That means, with the DDJ-400 connected, you can use it FOR FREE.
Wow I guess there's no trial with the DDJ 400, all I have to do now is convert update my playlist crate to my external hard

to be clear, hardware unlock just means performance mode will be enabled. You do not get full access to all of the other new rb6 software features.
I recently got updated to rekordbox 6 n i cant hear anything from my headphones..does that mean it will work wen i take the $299 plan???people keep tellingbme that i shud reinstall whuch i did but same problem..

This has been a nightmare with this unlock. crap. I have the DDj-1000 Just got it this year. I have version rekordbox 6.8 and I can not unlock this ***** thing. Are there any detail explanations on how to unlock this. I mean step by step. HELP

I dropped rekordbox and switched to virtual dj. After the last firmware update, rekordbox and my ddj-1000 have been nothing but pain in the DS. (Dj Sofaware). Will be switching to the rane 4. The ddj-1000 will not display any info in the jogwheel screen. Can't find a way to do a factory rest for the ddj-1000. Since the flex 10, there is no real support for the ddj-1000.
At least I’ll finally start using my XP1 more. It’s literally been sitting on a shelf for like 6 months. 🤦🏾♂️
so am i safe to buy an xp1/2 and use my denon x1700 soundcard and use rb6 dvs with no subscription?
if so then im a happy man again and can move forward with rekordbox updates.

BryantFC that is incorrect. XP1 and XP2 hardware unlock BOTH performance and DVS. So, if you have (just about) ANY DJ mixer that has a built in sound card and phono inputs and use it with the XP1 or XP2, you can reassign the inputs as your DVS source.
I know this because Rekordbox can reassign the soundcard which I demonstrated with the Rane SL3 in a recent video.
@@priyonjoni really? that's the first I've heard about that. For instance, the DDJ-1000 is DVS compatible (thus you having to buy the pack) but was never "unlocked' right from the moment you unboxed the controller. But, if you want to use it with RB6, DJ control is possible but DVS is not unless you pay for a subscription plan. Basically that's how I've been seeing with the XP1/XP2, because while it unlocks performance mode, you still need a DVS "hardware" mixer that is supported within the new RB6 terms. If there's a workaround like you mention, that is GREAT and def needs to be pointed out to all users.

I dont understand this. I paid 150$ for a license key for a copy of rekordbox to use in performance mode with my ddjsb2. Are they screwing me over? Can they just charge me 150$ for something and then take it away? Or can I just keep using the old version of rekordbox i paid for if I dont care about new features?
You can still use ver 5 if you paid for it.
