So underrated song!
Gary’s voice surprised me at the beginning of the song. It certainly sounds like the voice of an old wise and wounded soul. It hurts to look at his face because he’s not trying to hide his emotions. The remains of depression. But he didn’t give in, so why would we? Let’s show all of our love more than ever .

UNDERRATED BAND. AMAZING PERFORMANCE IN THIS SONG.
"Don't give in" to your demons and insecurities. The song is about struggling with mental illness (depression/anxiety). Gary began to write it about a friend he knew but realized he was actually writing about himself and the issues he was scared to face. The album wildness is very personal and about addiction, mental illness and sickness (his father has Alzheimers).
In an interview Gary called it raw and about just baring everything both good and bad, and becoming friends with your inner demons. It's a beautiful song and very emotional because how many people in this world struggle under the weight of mental illness through experiencing it themselves or watching a loved one struggle with it.
It can be down right debilitating, exhausting and sap you of any will and creativity. It is so easy to just give in to it at any moment but you can't . You have to make peace with yourself in able to move forward. You have to look at your fears and face them. It sounds easy, it's not, it is a struggle everyday but for every one out there who understands Gary's words -

The hardest thing to do is NOT GIVE IN. There is a perverse comfort in the familiar even if that familiar is pain, don't figure but mental illness isn't meant to.
Trying to understand it is a start and a head fuck but gradually and mostly after noticeable differences in outcomes do u start to work on oneself. One step forward and 2 back is the painful truth but we must persevere or we will succumb.
So to all my brothers and sisters who share mental health issues I hope you get help and somehow move forward. 🍊

I can't believe it's 3 years since the first time I heard this masterpiece for the first time. I always knew Gary was facing depression, because I have been facing it too since puberty. I remember how it ignite my life on a very dark and sad moment, how it renewed my energy for everything. Today I've felt strange, stressed and sad. Listening to Gary, remembering and thinking about what he has struggled with, and how much my life has changed for the better, even with this f...ckng pandemic reality, just makes me say THANK YOU GARY, THANK YOU for your words, for your voice, for using your fight against your own darkness to help us all. To inspire us all. I've always felt a deep conection with your words, your voice and expressions, you have literaly saved me in more than one time. Also, to all Snow Patrol guys THANK YOU for not ever leaving Gary alone, for creating, perform, and also co-singing and writing (in other songs) every note from Snow Patrol. I love you all very, very much, and I wish I can get the chance to see you performing on a life concert again, and for you to keep writing and composing more masterpieces like this!!!

The vagueness of these lyrics is masterful...
I was driving to my daughter's and heard this on the radio. These lyrics and the soulful pleading in the singer's voice, brought me to tears at a time when i needed these words. I'm older and had no idea who Snow Patrol was or any backstory. I can only say, I'm hooked and in awe! BRAVO! This is a masterpiece.

My mother died on Monday. Her funeral was on Thursday... The same day this came out. She was a huge snow patrol fan and her and my dad were always waiting for concerts from them so they can go to. We found out this song the morning of the funeral and played it with her before the coffin was closed for the last time with the whole family. I'm not a huge religious person but this could either be a huge coincidence or a sign from her especially considering the way the song suits.
Oran Grant I am terribly sorry for your lost 😢 the friend who introduced me to Snow Patrol died almost 6 years ago. And her mom passed away 3 weeks ago. This song really has come to us in life changing moments. Crutial and hard.

Ashley Lewis that’s the key. I battled depression for 2 decades and overcame it. Depression is rabbit hole that at times feels familiar and somewhat comfortable. That comfort zone is what kills.

This song saved me after my olderBrother Nicky passed away (my soulmate). i was broken desperate grieving and in a total distructive mode ,i wanted to be the one who died ! The pain was something ive never felt before. My son was 18 at the time and his uncle Nick was the closest he had to a Dad,
My grief made me so selfish . I drink and took speed i smoked weed and ate chocolates only leaving ny room if absolutely necessary..
One day this song came on the radio , i felt a sudden change in my head it was like Nicky was speaking to me throgh this song ir was at that point i realised i need help .... i signed my self into rehab for 3months . It was a life changing moment and i will ne forever grateful this song help me save my life 🙏 ❤

My mother (single parent) passed 8 months ago, my only other sibling, my little sister passed 5 years before that and I had given up on everything. I had loads of support but it didnt matter. Their words seemed empty. I heard this song and read the lyrics and it really touched me. I have some hope of becoming some resemblance of who I was before it all happened. Thank Snow Patrol, from the bottom of my heart.

It's really interesting how most Snow Partol songs sound like you could play them in a row and I'd absolutely sleep thru them (not in a bad way, mind you) but this one I consider a 'banger', considering it's a snow patrol song, and it absolutely makes me want to go see them live (I accidentally typed 'love).

Shouldn't we only care about the credit (aka, love) a band enjoys by the right people? And I think these guys' music is loved enough and valued highly by the people who need it in their life, regardless of how few/many these people are.
But, generally speaking, if you expect the *majority* to truly appreciate the right things in life, you'll be disappointed ;/ ...they/we don't even do it for themselves/ourselves, let alone others; artists included.
Dare I say, true wisdom and/or excellence were/was never exactly popular (these are just so different from the things that are supposed to be popular; they require a mentality of humility, and the world has been focusing on a vicious cycle of making the ego bigger and bigger, which is the opposite direction of the one we should take... but hey, it's the "good" old divide and conquer strategy and it works for "certain people", who happen to rule the world, "somehow"). Similar to how peace is perceived as "boring" by so many. Well, hopefully, in the (distant???) future... if there will be one, yeah, mwahaha -..- Stupidity has consequences.

If you've been there, you can actually feel through Gary's voice the raw emotion of someone who's exhausted of battling his demons but refuse to let them win and how powerful his determination to overcome them is.
