Gary’s voice surprised me at the beginning of the song. It certainly sounds like the voice of an old wise and wounded soul. It hurts to look at his face because he’s not trying to hide his emotions. The remains of depression. But he didn’t give in, so why would we? Let’s show all of our love more than ever .
I was driving to my daughter's and heard this on the radio. These lyrics and the soulful pleading in the singer's voice, brought me to tears at a time when i needed these words. I'm older and had no idea who Snow Patrol was or any backstory. I can only say, I'm hooked and in awe! BRAVO! This is a masterpiece.
Lisa Kompatsiaris this one is the BBC radio 2 which I heard: ) m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/entertainment/music/news/the-show-will-go-on-snow-patrols-gary-lightbody-opens-up-about-depression-and-battle-with-the-drink-36731855.html
"Don't give in" to your demons and insecurities. The song is about struggling with mental illness (depression/anxiety). Gary began to write it about a friend he knew but realized he was actually writing about himself and the issues he was scared to face. The album wildness is very personal and about addiction, mental illness and sickness (his father has Alzheimers). In an interview Gary called it raw and about just baring everything both good and bad, and becoming friends with your inner demons. It's a beautiful song and very emotional because how many people in this world struggle under the weight of mental illness through experiencing it themselves or watching a loved one struggle with it. It can be down right debilitating, exhausting and sap you of any will and creativity. It is so easy to just give in to it at any moment but you can't . You have to make peace with yourself in able to move forward. You have to look at your fears and face them. It sounds easy, it's not, it is a struggle everyday but for every one out there who understands Gary's words - Don't give in
The hardest thing to do is NOT GIVE IN. There is a perverse comfort in the familiar even if that familiar is pain, don't figure but mental illness isn't meant to. Trying to understand it is a start and a head fuck but gradually and mostly after noticeable differences in outcomes do u start to work on oneself. One step forward and 2 back is the painful truth but we must persevere or we will succumb. So to all my brothers and sisters who share mental health issues I hope you get help and somehow move forward. 🍊
He did a lot of soul bearing for this song I feel. I didn't know about his dad. My dad is a recovering alcoholic and has ms and I feel this song really touches me significantly x
I can't believe it's 3 years since the first time I heard this masterpiece for the first time. I always knew Gary was facing depression, because I have been facing it too since puberty. I remember how it ignite my life on a very dark and sad moment, how it renewed my energy for everything. Today I've felt strange, stressed and sad. Listening to Gary, remembering and thinking about what he has struggled with, and how much my life has changed for the better, even with this f...ckng pandemic reality, just makes me say THANK YOU GARY, THANK YOU for your words, for your voice, for using your fight against your own darkness to help us all. To inspire us all. I've always felt a deep conection with your words, your voice and expressions, you have literaly saved me in more than one time. Also, to all Snow Patrol guys THANK YOU for not ever leaving Gary alone, for creating, perform, and also co-singing and writing (in other songs) every note from Snow Patrol. I love you all very, very much, and I wish I can get the chance to see you performing on a life concert again, and for you to keep writing and composing more masterpieces like this!!!
Nice reply I love listening to this masterpiece in the jym Gary's a very good fighter against depression, I've family with depression keep going faith can help too
This song has been on repeat in my brain since it came out. Thanks for showing us there's always a reason to fight through our struggles. Much love. ❤️
My mother died on Monday. Her funeral was on Thursday... The same day this came out. She was a huge snow patrol fan and her and my dad were always waiting for concerts from them so they can go to. We found out this song the morning of the funeral and played it with her before the coffin was closed for the last time with the whole family. I'm not a huge religious person but this could either be a huge coincidence or a sign from her especially considering the way the song suits.
Oran Grant I am terribly sorry for your lost 😢 the friend who introduced me to Snow Patrol died almost 6 years ago. And her mom passed away 3 weeks ago. This song really has come to us in life changing moments. Crutial and hard.
The choirs, the tone of voice with which the song starts, and the entrance with the acoustic guitar and the closing with the electric guitar, all of them are great.
I came searching for something, something to connect with, make me feel alive and found your back.. .. Been in a dark place thinking no hope and your song sent shivers down my spine when I played it. Grown up with snowpatrol. This song has touched me.
Avevo sperato che gli SNOW PATROL tornassero a emozionarmi con la loro MUSICA sono stato accontentato non smetto di ascoltarVi e' piu' forte di me, SIETE DEI VERI ARTISTI GRAZIE.
People that haven't been there don't understand; depression, anxiety, and despair can destroy the spirit. Everyone is fighting a battle; some battles are greater than others, but if keep fighting the good fight victory will be ours!
My mother (single parent) passed 8 months ago, my only other sibling, my little sister passed 5 years before that and I had given up on everything. I had loads of support but it didnt matter. Their words seemed empty. I heard this song and read the lyrics and it really touched me. I have some hope of becoming some resemblance of who I was before it all happened. Thank Snow Patrol, from the bottom of my heart.
I hope for your best. As music has found you in its own mysterious ways, that it so charmingly persists, to uplift your senses and relive your soul of all miseries to grow more stronger and a better human being, it also lets people like us know what our other brothers and sisters are going through and all those emotions, irrespective of their gloom or joy, have to cease to continue to let the other rise and influence the human body and mind. Snow Patrol is such a strong messenger of Music and it's unparalleled power which still conquers the mental conscience of the human mind which the mind in return oh so much adores its existence and create an apposite harmonic rhythm in the biologically structured neurons to create something so wonderful and to some, magical. I hope to be able to watch these amazing people keep up the good world. You people are inspirations to the mind to think, ponder and, the most gleefully,... to smile.
I shrunk my tumour before any chemo/radiation-just cleaned up my diet and played Snow Patrol! I am 61 and these lyrics are wise beyond his years. Don't underestimate the power of music to heal. Sending healing light from Toronto. ♥
The dancers add to the power of the song ...I haven't stopped listening to this all week..goosebumps every time. Thanks guys.. Looking forward to the album!
I always liked Snow Patrol.. but this song is simply AMAZING!! Just the kind of song you need getting you through hard times. Thank you. Keep on, don't give in... joy is only a smile away when sun is shining onto your face. Sometimes it is just hard to smile..
Wow, this song simply brought me to tears. If you've been there, you can actually feel through Gary's voice the raw emotion of someone who's exhausted of battling his demons but refuse to let them win and how powerful his determination to overcome them is. As someone who suffers from anxiety attacks, I will FOR SURE return to this song every time I feel low.
I am so glad to hear new music from SP. I have loved them all the way through and they have helped me through the darkest and happiest of times. Good music is ageless, faceless and timeless. Snow Patrol will always be relevant and I will always love them. Welcome back.

Shouldn't we only care about the credit (aka, love) a band enjoys by the right people? And I think these guys' music is loved enough and valued highly by the people who need it in their life, regardless of how few/many these people are. This song saved me after my olderBrother Nicky passed away (my soulmate). i was broken desperate grieving and in a total distructive mode ,i wanted to be the one who died ! The pain was something ive never felt before. My son was 18 at the time and his uncle Nick was the closest he had to a Dad, My grief made me so selfish . I drink and took speed i smoked weed and ate chocolates only leaving ny room if absolutely necessary.. One day this song came on the radio , i felt a sudden change in my head it was like Nicky was speaking to me throgh this song ir was at that point i realised i need help .... i signed my self into rehab for 3months . It was a life changing moment and i will ne forever grateful this song help me save my life 🙏 ❤
Ashley Lewis that’s the key. I battled depression for 2 decades and overcame it. Depression is rabbit hole that at times feels familiar and somewhat comfortable. That comfort zone is what kills.
This resonates hard with anyone who has or is battling depression. Thank you so much for releasing this and showing the end of the tunnel to those struggling to find it.
This master piece never gets old. I am still a big fan of them since they came out first time. And this song is still my absolutely favorite song of them and looovvveee that vid!
I have this song in my most depressing playlist. Sometimes when I have a totally shitty mood I play these sad songs, and then „don’t give in” plays randomly... This song helped me so many times. Thank you.
Guess I have to get this album. These guys have soul. I had their concert in Scotland on dvd playing as my husband died from a glioblastoma (brain tumor)December 1, 2012. He really like these guys as do I. He was a drummer literally "back in the day" - late 60's, early 70's.
This song is magnificent - and I like the variation in Gary's voice - they can't be afraid to do new things - Gary - don't give in - don't you dare quit so easy...
I heard this song at work since this year 2019 and fell in love with his voice..after looking up the song on RUclips and hearing the words as he sings...such a beautiful song.
It's really interesting how most Snow Partol songs sound like you could play them in a row and I'd absolutely sleep thru them (not in a bad way, mind you) but this one I consider a 'banger', considering it's a snow patrol song, and it absolutely makes me want to go see them live (I accidentally typed 'love). I think I should get tickets to their show... Play it one more time and I will...
I heard this song on the radio yesterday and was thinking "is this new Snow Patrol music?" and it was. Gary's voice is still amazing and easily recognisable
This song speaks to my soul. Makes me feel so emotional. I just FEEL his words. This is my favorite song by snow patrol. They helped me through so much..and the dancing..wow
I heard this song randomly on Joox during my morning walk and it was just the right time to heard it. Just dont give in so easy. Love this song. Its truly help when you fight your demon inside.
I thought it was going to be a peppy empowering song by the title which honestly I would be good with, but omg it's so much more. I love how the chorus is so vulnerable instead. Telling yourself to keep going when you're failing to surface again and again and the video captured that perfectly throughout. "I know. I know."
That voice! He could sing the phonebook and it would be good. This songwriting though is perfect.
I actually thought someone else was singing the first few lines. Sounds a bit like Rob Hyman
cant agree more
Absolutely! Lotta love!
Yeah, like totally. Also, his haircut looks like it has been through some serious s**t either.
it’s horrible. never make a record off the wagon. they got clean and the acoustic re-recordings sound stunning. this is garbage

I'm so happy he made it through his depression!! Snow Patrol's music is just so AMAZING. Thank you for being back with this beautiful song! ly all
How come I didn't know about this? wtf?
Jorge Rezende i also just heard it yesterday in his bbc radio2 interview. He had a lot of mental problems and also a big drinking problem.
What are you talking about??? This is puré shit😕😕😕👎👎
Could you link this interview for me? He looks so bad, I was shocked, when I just saw the video....

What a come back, smashing change of vocal delivery for Gary
totally! just shows how great an band or act is when they can switch it up and be fresh
It reminds me of late 80's, early 90's Simple Minds. I mean that in the nicest way possible.

This song is magnificent - and I like the variation in Gary's voice - they can't be afraid to do new things - Gary - don't give in - don't you dare quit so easy...
Dieser Song berührt mich immer wieder, wenn ich ihn höre. Thx @SnowPatrol für diese Gefühle in Worte ♥️

I heard this song at work since this year 2019 and fell in love with his voice..after looking up the song on RUclips and hearing the words as he sings...such a beautiful song.
I too heard it at work just a few weeks ago.
I’m so obsessed with this song! I’ve listened to it multiple times a day multiple days in a row!
Anthem of the Year! May this chart Pop and play loud in Stadiums.
Open Your Eyes, Run Chasing Cars, Dont Give In!! welcome baaaaackk!!
Your song gave me chills thank you to you and your band
We are all growing up with Snow Patrol, it's not a barn burner track but has a beautiful message.
This song is empowering!!!!!! It's my new anthem! 👍🏻
Beautiful song it lifts up my soul 🙏
I am an old soul and these lyrics touched me deeply on a spiritual level.
Iknow what you mean. I heard the song on the radio and then had to go here to see the video.
Funny. Me too!
Why was my comment doubled then rearranged, it was just a comment?
Great song! Awesome voice! I can feel the emotions 😭😭😭
Doesn't matter how long it's been, your music is eternal
So glad you're back lads. Fantastic band. Love you Gary Lightbody, you're an inspiration and this song is testament to that. Amazing!
SO HAPPY they are making music again. And I love that the Irish accent comes thru a bit more on this song
on the Island
These guys are just perfection-they just keep getting better. LOVE LOVE LOVE
*Grateful for new Snow Patrol.*
I thought it was going to be a peppy empowering song by the title which honestly I would be good with, but omg it's so much more. I love how the chorus is so vulnerable instead. Telling yourself to keep going when you're failing to surface again and again and the video captured that perfectly throughout.
"I know. I know."
Snow Patrol !!! wonderful song ......... heading to number one on the hot 100 billboard list of the year 2018.
What a song, Amazing😊🎵🎸👌💞
We love you, Snow Patrol. Greatings from Brazil, Rio de Janeiro
