    I wish more fighters would do this kind of thing. As a fan of the sport, and a martial artist, this is what interests me the most. Of course there was some deal or revisionist history in there, but that's perfectly normal. On the other hand, Conor made some pretty accurate assessments as well. I'd love to hear a rundown of the fight from Khabibs perspective as well. Unfortunately, nobody cares. What people seem to care about is being incredible morons and cavemen, taking "sides" in a tribal pissing contest and spotting "shit talk" and "excuses" wherever they can. It's pathetic.

      Well that's exactly everything I don't care about: the bullshit, the gossip, the tribalism and schoolyard nonsense. I don't care what fighter you like to hate, I don't care about Khabibs bullshit religion and family values, Conors heroic Irish ancestors, his whisky and the trash talk. Don't care about what lowbrow nonsense Khabibs scumbag manager has to say, or who got "exposed" for what. All that childish and oafish stuff absolutely turns me off, and it's pathetic that MMA fans seem to mainly think in these dimensions. It's like Jersey Shore. Not a joke when theres a rematch possibility. The more talk that surrounds the fight the more likely a rematch happens. Is it appropriate. I dont believe so. Can conor win. absolutely. But not easily. He was very focused on takedowns which led to khabibs hook that dropped him which was a huge turning point. I think khabib wins 8/10 times. I think khabib takes that rematch. Khabib took alot from conor. But if conor beats khabib. He takes his 0. He takes a mans pride.

    That "fight breakdown" post is epic. He basically blames his team ("I listened to others too much"). Every sentence is a bs excuse with a "humble sounding" ending. Everything he did was just because he "listened to others" and everything Khabib did was cos he was "blessed" with it. Dude… He also forgot to mention why he cheated so much (did "others" tell him to do it too?) or why he couldn't even make eye contact with Khabib in the octagon before the fight. Or why he bitched out after the fight and couldn't face the reporters at the presser or after the presser. He is not fooling anyone with that "breakdown. I have to give Conor props for one thing though, at least he didn't use the "metoo" tag for that post.

    I like Mike Tyson ' s comment on fighting, he said "everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face". Conor either never seen Khabib ' s act before or his head was too blown up to realize that he needed a plan to either prevent the take down or do something different from what the other fighters did.
    Eddie Bravo said that nobody can get up so someone needs to try fighting from the bottom instead of burning the gas and not getting up.
    I have noticed that Cormier beat Stipe with the wild over hand right and that's what Khabib has for a stand up game.

    @thebreeze1325 5 лет назад +2

    Chael, I always enjoy your breakdowns.
    I enjoy Conor as an entertainer, but am by no means what one would consider a diehard for him. I picked Khabib to win against Conor actually. Made that determination after watching the first press conference.
    Working in the Mental Health field, I’ve personally learned to get quite a read on individual behavior and Conor’s was very telling.
    Showing up to the Press conference intoxicated paired with the fluctuating emotional instability when making his comments really displayed that Conor was REALLY emotionally over invested in this fight.We have to be mindful that Conor didn’t come back for the money. He has money. He came back because this time it was actually personal. And it showed at the first press conference. This wasn’t just typical Conor Obnoxiousness to sell the fight. Typically, Conors antics have him calm, collected, cracking jokes and enjoying himself at the expense of his opponent.
    A quick glance showed that he was bitter. He was truly agitated, and he showed he has a genuine disdain for Khabib. So much so, that at some points he was laughing and screaming like a nervous wreck. And Khabib having minimal responses didnt help Conor for what he was trying to achieve.
    Now, I offer to you that Conor did more than his fair share to sell this fight, however it’s easy for Conor to sell this fight when he’s mentally sold himself to it.
    With that all in mind, I am 100% in agreement with you with this breakdown. I think Conor was at least temporarily humbled and is willing to accept Khabib was the better man in this fight. Sure, he perhaps feels he did better than what many of us observed, but Conor at least appears to be reflecting. I’m sure in his mind, he needs to either work his way back up the contender chain or prepare more diligently for Khabib in the rematch.
    The true reality is Conor is obsessed with being the best. He wants the money, the fame, the prestige, and the power. Remember, he’s not “here to take part” he “here to take over.” And as long as someone else is at the top that isn’t him, he’ll do everything possible to get there. The real problem is his absence from the UFC is greatly going to deter him because many are now capable of beating him.

    Conor saying he won the first round "from a fight standpoint" automatically took away any credibility he had for the rest of that breakdown. He has been fighting far too long to be pretending he doesn't know the rules of the fight game. We try to give him the respect he deserves for the honorable way in which he handles losses, but pumping out excuses like this certainly isn't going to help him in any way.

      PsyintZ i'm pretty sure he meant when someone tries to just hold you down and hope you get tired eventually and the other person wants to throwdown in a "fight" and put skill to skill. Cause in the first round khabib wasn't even punching him on the ground.

      That's the thing. Nobody gives him the respect he deserves. Conor is a great fighter. But apparently if you think he's a great striker, you're considered a "casual" and he's "over hyped" and people say he was cherry picked to the top even though he cleared the featherweight division (besides Frankie) and smoked Jose Aldo and Eddie Alvarez. The dude can strike. But 2 years off going against a hungry opponent who has literally the best wrestling of all time? He's supposed to lose that fight 9/10 times. But of course everyone jumps on the train and says he "sucks" when that's just not true.

    Talking of big fights, I've been to lots of sports bars and watched just about every UFC PPV but the night Bispeng vs GSP there was not even a place to stand and the crowd there went crazy when GSP won, never before have I ever experienced that. Then again 217 was probably the best UFC ever , thus far.
