@Franz H. W. Reifschneider The military history of France encompasses an immense panorama of conflicts and struggles extending for more than 2,000 years across areas including modern France, Europe, and a variety of regions throughout the world. According to historian Niall Ferguson: "of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495, the French have participated in 50 - more than Austria (47) and England (43). Out of 168 battles fought since 387 BC, they have won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10", making France the most successful military power in European history-in terms of number of fought and won.
@Franz H. W. Reifschneider Just take it as you want. As many folks like you like to label the French as coward, history tells us that you're not any better.
Dude you can actually be very sure it they taste very very similar, if those rich motherfuckers hear about a european delicacy they will freak out and pay anything, if it's just "chinaware" no1 really wants it, 99% sure
Kroooassant; I don’t own a cow, but I don’t pay $100.00 a gallon for milk either. If you want to eat high priced fungus, just who is stopping you? But remember, a lot of the fungus people are paying their hard earned money for is Chinese fungus; the kind Chinese presents feed to their pigs. Bon appétit!
@@handledav I dont know about that I had a mushroom appetizer cooked with truffles, didnt like the taste one bit, maybe it was one of those soft truffle bombs from dog
Paying $1000 a pound for a mushroom that's been pried out of a dog's mouth, and pretending that eating it gives you a sublime pleasure. Walking around with your pants falling down, and pretending that it's your personal style. The rich, and the poor, are more alike than we think.
Many years ago, when I was just a child, I remember eating a small black nugget that my father had dug from the ground as he was planting crops. To this day, I have not forgotten how wonderful that nugget tasted. Now I know it had to have been a truffle.
Okay Im confused. From what they described, is that the issue with these Chinese truffles is that they are picked when they are not ripe because they don't use dogs to pick them. So does that mean if they did use dogs to pick them ripe like the frenches do it would taste okay? If thats the case then why would they worry about the "spores" contaminating their land if they are the same?
Thats right, well they worry about that because if that happens price will go much much lower, and they dont want that, they want to sell 1 kg for thousand of euros, if price goes down they will not earn as nearly as much they do now
It sounded like the Chinese truffles started off at a lower grade, and then made worse by early harvesting. So spore contamination would impact harvesting for top quality truffles. Truffles are different by region- like Italian grapes are different and pricier than American.
i have read into these. there are reports claiming that the difference lies in immature and careless harvesting, lack of proper preservations---in China where truffles are produced, it's very remote with lack of roads transport, not to mention flights. With truffles having an incredibly short shelf span, by the time the Chinese ones get to Europe or US, they are no good. It's a lot of factors combined. Besides, Chinese made had always carried this connotations of cheapness, in the eyes of elitist consumers in Europe n US. If Chinese truffles take over the world, and are considered not to be substantially superior, the price of Italian and French truffles will plummet. This lady with fancy tan and animal fur coat suffer the most and the plump French chef in the video too. They are the ones with invested interest in this. SO they will never say Chinese truffles are any good until they own stakes in Chinese companies producing these truffles. Also look at what happened with caviar too. they have brought the price down substantially and in blind tests, people can't really tell the difference that easily
You would think the most expensive food would be something like a apple or a pumpkin something that's healthy for you not something that looks like my last meal 2 hours later
Jasmin rangel I like using truffle oil for dinner dates when I make pasta. It does have a lovely aroma. The problem is that store bought truffle ANYTHING is Chinese truffle. My uncle had a truffle grow under his excavated tree here in New York and he sold it for $3,000 cause it weighed 1 pound & they didn’t know if it was Chinese or Spanish truffle
My father had truffles and was putting it in a lot of our food, rice, salad etc... crazy thing, was that its very addictive, i found myself looking in the fridge for it, to put in my rice etc and saw my father doing the same thing
It's a fungus that looks like horse crap, I've never had a truffle in my whole life and it wouldn't hurt my feelings to never have one. The store is so stupid😂😂😂😂
I bet my soul that the most expensive food in the world is no where near the most delicious. I've never tasted a European white truffle but I bet it doesn't taste better than a strawberry, chocolate, or chicken. Which are all a lot less expensive.
Lol how can you say that without ever having tried it? I’ve never taken a bite out of a truffle but I’ve had plenty of dishes with shavings and flakes, and having eaten some of the shavings by themselves, I can tell you they are far superior to any other mushroom. They’ve got serious flavor. Truffle oil can be disregarded, it’s usually nasty compared to the real thing.
Well the guy that owns the Chinese truffles can company is not wrong. There is no legal definition for what a product should be, specifically. Just look at the iPhone. The parts are produced in China, some are even assembled there, but they still call it a U.S. product simply because it was "designed" in California.
+Chad Aoun Not designed, Packaged. Legally if the product is Packaged or finished in that country it is considered from that place. Example, China makes all the parts for a Iphone and send them to America, Then we put together the IPhones, It is now considered made in US. As long as it is Packaged/Put together or a single part on it is built here it is considered from here.
+Spirit Fox Gaming So if I buy a very expensive watch for example and it says it's made from Switzerland, but some/most parts are made/put together in China or other low wage countries!?
chuk90 If you build the watch without attaching a single outside piece, then you send it to another country and connect that last piece the item will then be considered made in that country. As long as the item is finished in another country it is legally considered from there. Not all items are as easy to do that with though, for example. A blow up ball is made in China, but it has the air and what not added in another country, I think at this point it would still be considered in China, While the Air is part of the item it is not the item itself.
I figured that out years ago, when VHS was the only means for recording. You listen to about 30 seconds, fast forward, wash rinse repeat. That was usually how much substance there was in the stories. Then, if you were really masochistic, you watched Andy Rooney. Which that reminds me, have they ever found a suitable replacement for that guy?
All I’m saying is that unless you’ve had truffles on at least a pasta dish you don’t know what you’re missing. I’m no rich man but I splurged one night for me and my fiancé and boy it was worth it.
Was it though? It's more likely that you just ate cheap Chinese truffles and because you spent so much and thought you were getting something amazing, you elevated that dish in your mind to something amazing. Same thing happens with wine. Exact same wine with a higher priced label suddenly tastes better to everyone.
@@richarda3764 Very true. I have a friend who is a wine salesman for a place that sells a lot of very expensive wines. I gave up drinking many years ago, but one day i was joking with him how when I did drink, I used to drink the really cheap stuff, Carlo Rossi burgundy in the 3-liter jug. He admitted to me that he also liked Carlo Rossi, and that when they'd do blind wine tastings, they would often throw a glass of it in with the fancy wines, and that when these wine snobs couldn't see the label, they loved it. It's that way with any luxury item. I read an article recently about how for years, high end restaurants in NYC have been charging hundreds of dollars for garden variety beef that they are claiming is Kobe beef, but really isn't. Most people can;t tell the difference.
you guys are so negative. why can't he have had a fab dinner, so well worth it. splurging on a date with his love. are you jealous cause he had it goin' on? You go Davey, have the time of your life.
My parents had a couple pigs back in Mexico and when the pigs would start digging hole my parents would tie a pice of metal wire around there nose so it could hurt the pigs when it tries to dig holes....Poor piggies they were only looking for truffles to eat.😱😂
Remember when Californian wines came out and the French were ranting and raving about how inferior they were... until there was a blind taste test? I hope to see that experiment recreated but with truffles...
I'm not sure how the blind taste test went, but at some point of the business, aren't there consumers with elevated taste buds for the product? As in art, where a regular Joe wouldn't be able to differentiate which painting has Monet's brush strokes vs an expert?
California wines aren't bad, but the problem is they're saturating U.S. markets and making Spanish and Italian wines harder to come by. If you don't believe me, count how many Californian wines there are at your local grocery versus Spanish ones. There are some things you can't replace which is why certain products have protections so they can only originate from their area. Not just truffles, but wine, cheese, tea, fabrics, and even some animal breeds. You wouldn't like it if a Chinese vineyard starting selling bottles claiming to be California wine. Day to day it seems unimportant: wine is wine, tea is tea, etc. But sometimes you want something specific, something special. Kraft cheese singles are not Roquefort. EDIT: Just to add, the same thing is true of Wisconsin cheese knockoffs. Don't get me wrong, Wisconsin produces some great cheese. However, they constantly break origin rules and label cheeses as "parmesan" even though it's not from Parma, "brie" even though it's not from Seine, "stilton" even though it's not from Leicester, etc. I don't know how they can legally do this, but it's a disgrace. More general cheeses, like gouda, cheddar, and alpine are fine, but not the specific varieties of cheese that are supposed to be protected to a certain area. Who wants a parmigiano from Wisconsin anyway?
We have tons of white truffle in Tunisia growing randomly, some people like and collect them for consumption but not for sale coz most people don't eat them and not even aware about their value.
No you are wrong. It is everyone's problem. The detail, quality and culture that goes into anything is soon destroyed by knock-offs. If the air you breath in right now is not 100% pure but is now polluted from China , will that worry you? If the quality of Movies in your theater is being shown by a cheap low quality Pirate copy from China, will that worry you?? We gotta demand quality in whatever it is whether we can afford it or not because when our children can finally afford it... it'll be gone and they will not know what quality is.
"The robbers came and got your Truffles?" "Yes, they stole 200 kilos of Truffles." "200 kilos, from you?" "They didn't steal my money, they stole my Truffles!"
"Now you see why they are so expensive." A hand full of truffels is worth 1 000 dollars and they got it in under an hour. Yeah it's real laybor intensive, yeah ... wtf.
You have to put truffles under microscope to check whether they are European or Chinese . That much difference is there between European and Chinese truffles 😁😁😁 if you can't identify whether the truffle is Chinese or European by just tasting .... what's the point???
Afsal PA it’s just business both come from the earth for me is just a kind of potato,Europeans don’t want they’re rich business taken away from Chinese.
Have you watched it or not? They were saying they can see difference. Havent you seen the red basket? And they were also saying Chineese once taste like wood, with no aroma and delicate taste. Ou yes... bad bad Europenas. Dont eat truffles!
Well no he doesnt have to, hes just doing that because thats his business and he is always concerned with the quality of the truffles. Why do we need truffle conspiracy theorists?
First world? You mean a country that is in the United nations? As opposed to a country with Russia being second world? A third world country is the rest? The cold world is over, has been since 1991. Outdated term.
I appreciate that truffles have so much value to these people. I personally have found all culinary fungi to taste like rotten dirt, but French people love food and base their livelihoods (and culture) around these unique ingredients. I’m sure that there’s things that I value that they wouldn’t even care about. Humanity is about perspective.
@Zabuza, blame the Jewelers who invested millions in marketing. Diamonds actually used to be worthless, a shiny bauble. But then post Great war, they shot up as did the global economy. Gotta buy a material good to show your lover you care.
It's very common to find high quality truffles in Saudi Arabia desert and Iraq too. But only in spring season, usually from mid December to end of February. Those people in France and Italy doesn't have any idea lol
Talal ALZAFIRI speing season truffle are not best quality.... the white ones are from september-november, but here in Italy (Piedmont) are not so expensive if you know the right places and the right persons
To be honest I tasted European truffles. They taste fishy ( a bit like caviar). The irony that truffles in Arabian desserts are everywhere, people cook them with meat in season ( when thunder strikes) helping them to grow, and they're free there to be picked by the locals for nothing 😂 Try to grew them In Nevada.
The Chinese truffles are as good as the French one. The French truffle company just wants to save their million dollar business, so they're spreading all types of lies about the Chinese truffles being of inferior quality. I mean, if it costs thousands for a pound, who wouldn't want to do it? It's a gold mine business.
Honestly, I can't live without Chinese products. Most of Chinese products are cheap and easy to use. Don't forget that nearly every product of Apple is made in China. BTW, I can find a shitty product made in USA as well.
lol does it matter? u pay less for a bit less but u still get something. It's a different market that this is pandering to. Happens in world economics all the time.
+Xaqq DeRipper if they were just pandering to a different market, then fine. But they are sneaking their products into the REAL market. And that's the problem.
So they said that the reason the chinese truffles didnt taste as good is because they harvested them when they weren't ready? So it stands to reason if the chinese truffle infected france and the locals harvested them the same way they have been doing for years that they would taste better?
+Brad Lockard Yeah i wondered about it. It's almost like they don't even know themselves. I'd like to know if there is any real genetic difference between the two.
Also I would add that the Chinese could improve the quality of their truffles by adopting the dog harvesting method. If the ripeness is the difference, can't they just train their dogs and at least greatly improve the product they have.
Jealous lmao These things arent thousands if you know where to get em, I got a jar of sliced black truffles in oil for 13 bucks and made a wonderful truffle alfredo for my family, the price ended up being 2 bucks for each serving of pasta. Thats pretty cheap.
European truffles traders and exporters import chinese truffles(for obvious reason), then blame chinese for bringing cheap truffles into their country. LOL Grape are cheaper in some European countries than 3rd world SE asia, DOESNT mean SE asia produce higher quality grape, but the supply and demand. I guarantee the traders in france are making huge money since they can now labeling much cheaper(due to high supply but low local demand/branding) China truffles as their own product.
if the chinese truffles are so inferior then why don't the people who eat they not know the difference when they mix the two? sounds more like bullshit to me. and why does everything european valued so much in this country and so ridiculously overpriced? in food and fashion.
People get the impression that chinese stuff are of bad quality because majority of the things are from China. Meaning there is a higher percentage that an item that is bad regardless of where it comes from, comes from China. And what do you mean people included? I cant say that Americans have a good quality of life. Highest Obesity rate and the most ignorant people.
Like zuppa cake vs zuppa soup. A lot of words in the culinary world can be tricky with misnomers, homonyms/homographs, metaphorical extensions, language barriers/cultural misunderstandings, et al.
KinghtofZero00 There is probably something that we cant understand. Just like how we cant tell the difference between expensive wine and cheap wine whereas the sommeliers can.
I’ve had truffle zest, it’s definitely a rich taste that I’ve never experienced before. Ordered some truff hot sauce I know there can’t be a lot of truffle in it but the flavor is so distinctive and good.
No she doesn’t want to have enough for everybody, because that would drive the values down. It’s better how it is being so scarce so that it makes the demand higher and thus the value higher so they can make it outrageous from some fungi.
Good point other mushrooms can be farmed so truffle should be and I bet ARE farmed as well but the romantic aspect of the old fashioned hunting makes it cost more

Also look at what happened with caviar too. they have brought the price down substantially and in blind tests, people can't really tell the difference that easily
i got some leaves in the back yard worth about a $1k each.

Tbig13002 Says the person whose country is being taken over by 3rd world immigrants.
+Spirit Fox Gaming So the guy selling the canned chinese truffles is not wrong!
A blow up ball is made in China, but it has the air and what not added in another country, I think at this point it would still be considered in China, While the Air is part of the item it is not the item itself.
chuk90 you got it. That's exactly many of the watch companies are doing.
It took me less than 13 min to watch 60 min. I am now genius level

James Rae snob
maybe because American wine is cheaper and sells better which is why stores carry it more than expensive imported wines?
