For everyone saying 'one hit wonder', just remember, you're only talking about YOUR country! There are many many other countries around the world where Mungo Jerry had plenty of hits, & the singer, Ray Dorset, is STILL in the business, 50 years later, writing & performing!! 'one hit wonder'? Yeah right!!
Lord the memories of highschool when this came out . Cruisen in my 62 Chevy Sports Coupe ( fire engine Red and chrome wheels ) after classes listening to this song .
Mungo Jerry weren't a one hit wonder in the UK they had quite a few hit songs in the early to mid 70's. The lead singer is Ray Dorset who is still preforming (when he can)
So many comments saying Mungo Jerry were a one hit wonder, they weren't. In the UK they had loads of hits in the early to mid 70's and the lead singer Ray Dorset wrote hits for others. They might of had one hit in your country but calling them one hit wonders would be like me calling John Mellencamp a one hit wonder as he had only one chart hit in the UK so try to remember that RUclips is worldwide 🌐.
That's pretty odd u would say that about audio as opposed to video. When that song was released, we had no idea who made up the band or even what they looked like until way later. It was all radio play and we loved the song. 'Course, it came out in summertime so it was relatable to our activities. It was a cool song to play at backyard parties, to dance to. It was number on charts around the world and became one of the best-selling singles in music history! I still love listening to it, just to get my blood pumping. Has remained in my Playlist all these years...even my 17-yr-old granddaughter loves it. A fun song!
It's "front porch of a river shack" kind of music. I'm from New Orleans, and there's a kind of 'cajun hillbilly/backwater' style to the simple kind of music people make at home. I lived in a house like that til I was 5 years old, and it just kind of lives in your soul, separate from the music we appreciate from our 'minds'. I've never really cared for zydeco 'to listen to' as a music-lover, but whenever people are making it and i hear it live, it just kinda gets me.
I'm old enough to remember when this song came out. A good mood summer hit. The first time I heard it, I thought it was still quite funny, but then it ran again and again on the radio and I got it over very quickly. I can't think of another song by Mungo Jerry for a "second chance" off the cuff. (and I can do without it)
This particular song was HUGE when it came out in 1970. Probably as huge as "Play that funky music" from Wild Cherry, a few years later. This was one of them bands that you might call "one-hit-song", then the band goes into oblivion or hardly make anything better.
They had many hits all around the globe and the lead singer is still going. He actually wrote a song for Elvis but he died before he could record it. It was eventually eventually given to a singer called Kelly Marie who made it into a huge disco hit "Feels Like I'm in Love" which is still a huge gay anthem to this day so I would hardly call them a one hit wonder.
...I could've sworn this was the Lovin' Spoonful. (Hit them up sometime. "Do You Believe in Magic," "Summer in the City" and "Did You Ever Have To Make up Your Mind" sound like they're by three different bands. They are not.)
Goofy as hell, I know... But catchy and fun! :) It's scary, but I remember when this song came out and my friends and I looking at each other and saying 'WTF?' and then we listened again... a couple times. It was fun. :)
Can you react to a band called Case , Got to Get it ON....live version and a Band , Ides of March ,Vehicle....Both have alot of horns and alot of soul.
What an odd left field choice for someone to request. It's a fun little summer song from my youth, but it just rolls along and there's no real dynamics or transitions, and the break is uninspiring. You were polite, but I knew it wouldn't grab you. Having said that, it's a good mood, harmless, catchy song, and probably didn't take him long to write, but it was his biggest and most enduring record and made him popular and hopefully a lot of money over the years.
This is a 1-hit wonder and a pretty good song in my opinion. How about reacting to my favorite Alice Cooper song "Poison" ruclips.net/video/Qq4j1LtCdww/видео.html, "Squeeze Box" ruclips.net/video/49H0IfoILwQ/видео.html by The Who or Wilson Phillips singing "Hold On" ruclips.net/video/uIbXvaE39wM/видео.html. (FYI: Wilson Phillips is made up of the daughters of the group The Mama's and the Papa's).
This is not a well crafted song or the kind of song you break down into it's individual parts. This silly song does however give off "youthful super summer vibes" that people still relate to 40 years after it was released. Some songs are all about the vibe.
I think it was the lead singer of the progressive rock band Yes who said that they would constantly be rehearsing, every minute of the day to get their sound perfect. He said one day he was completely sat down when Mungo Jerry opened for the band and he had the audience in the palm of his hand playing just using a washboard.
You are reacting to a song 50 years ago I'm nearly 70 can you imagine me reacting to songs 50 years ago from the 60s lol music now is more to it now. Well done from uk

'one hit wonder'? Yeah right!!
such a great song, perfect song for the summer. these dudes were great.
This song always makes me feel happy!

Always loved that song!! Definitely a summer classic!
It’s just an unpretentious, simple song. That’s all. But, as such, that very unpretentiousness is ULTRA hip!
One hit wonder - with the best chops ever.
wait, are calling steppenwolf a one hit wonder? or charlie pride lol
@@ericanderson8886 This group, Mungo Jerry.

I LOVE Mungo Jerry, such a great representation of 70's fun. ☮

With 21 former members I would think Ray Dorset hasn’t won any “plays well with others” awards
Summer of 70, this song was heard at every beach and lake party I remember. Just a fun, cool vibe.
Gets radio play every summer & in lots of movies & shows.
Definitely happy. One hit wonder.
Another great (and lightweight) summer hit from the late 60's was: 'Summer in the City' by The Lovin Spoonful.
Also Day For a Daydream.
Oh my Chod, I hated this song when it first came out but the more I heard it I started tapping my feet. It has to grow on you lol.
"have a drink, have a drive, go out and see what you can find" F%&$ I miss the 70's.
Mungo Jerry mentioned in Avengers End Game..
“One of them had a hippie beard,"
“Bee Gees or Mungo Jerry?”
I didn't recognize the group name but immediately recognized the song. it was a 1 hit wonder.
Check the band out they had loads of hits and definitely not a one hit wonder. The lead singer also wrote hits for other artists.
Probably in your country.
Glad for your honesty.

I'm telling you. This song will be stuck in your head in the summertime. Lol. Puts a little more skip in your step when your out walking outside.
I 4got @ this one❤❤👊🖒✌🎸🎵🎶

Then when it was redone by Will Smith or Shaggy, it was fantastic... This is where it started and was No. 1 in the UK, US and Canada.
I didn't remember the volume changes?? Was it always that way?
Just a fun song🎵
Sorry for the bad news but Charley Pride passed away today
So sad...............
Alan Whetstone OH NO! He was AMAZING! So sad! Do you know how old he was? I used to listen to his music when I was younger! I loved it!
😥
@@wendyryder2708 He was 86.
Damn, that's harsh. I guess the real problem with having living legends is that they always have to pass on....
This is the only song I know of them. I also think this is the only Jug Band song I know.
Just my opinion bro, you are off on this one. This song has probably been in 100 movies/TV shows. All good though.
The first beat box, 1970's
Goofy as hell, I know... But catchy and fun! :) It's scary, but I remember when this song came out and my friends and I looking at each other and saying 'WTF?' and then we listened again... a couple times. It was fun. :)
Well it is in stereo ;) (I have the vinyl)

Hey, Wolfman Jack before he got fat, playing piano !
No song reminds me more of 1970!
Led zeppelin stairway to heaven
Try "Lady Rose" from 1971
Same kind of music. Check out Sir Douglas Quintet She's about a mover.

Nobody in that band ever smoked marijuana.
Best to just listen to this, sorry dudes.

You need to start doing some better bands - New Order, Depeche Mode, the SMITHS, the original band PRETENDERS, the CULT, early SIMPLE Minds.
@@bangmon1000 Definitely not “better” than PInk Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin, etc. 🤘🏼
@@bangmon1000 I like them, too - just don’t agree that they’re better ✌🏼
Back when jug bands were a thing.
This was a huge hit in 1970

50 years! 1970 - 2020 = 50 🤗
This song is actually 50 years old. (1970)
Happy times.....love it..carefree music to cheer us up....I thought they were great....
I love playing this song at a picnic in the summer, everyone loves it .
It was the perfect party song!!!!
Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa live 🙏🏻
One of my favorites from back in the day!
The keyboardist always reminds me of Wolfman Jack (in appearance). This is such a catchy tune.

Who in the heck is Mungo Jerry? The lead singer/songwriter and only constant of the band named "Mungo Jerry" was Ray Dorset
@@BobSoltis1 I guess Mungo Jerry is Ray Dorset then.
PLEASE react to Mungo Jerry's "Lady Rose"!! :)🥰🥰🤗🤗😚😚☺☺
Another great summer song is under the boardwalk by the Drifters

"lady rose" and "alright alright alright" were both top 20 hits also :)
I am happy that you play original recordings. Thank you
What a great happy song from a simpler time, even if it was from a one-hit wonder.
This is so different that it makes you want to keep listening over and over again. Was a very big song in the day !!
There was a cover of this in the 90s shaggy
They remind me of sly and the family stone
They were "One hit Wonders."
