Summer Time reaction by Mungo Jerry. This was a huge hit all over the world in 1970 and Reggae Star Shaggy had a massive hit with this in the 90s.

I've been listening to this every first day of Summer since 1970! It is 2024!
You're right. This was all over the radio in the summer of 1970.
"Mungojerry" is of course the name of a cat in Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot, which was turned into the musical Cats many years later. The poem is "Mungojerry and Rumpleteaser".
You crack me up "AS FAR BACK AS 1970!!!" Geez, Harri, I was in high school - it's not that long ago! :-)
I was born in 70- and I feel ancient most days lol.
Just yesterday! And we all just lived through the music of the 60s....what an exciting time.
Hahahaha you are all youngsters 🤩
i was married with 3 kids, imagine how I feel. LOL
So much fabulous going on in this video. The song itself, the hair, the muttonchops, the outfit, the bottle blowing, the 1970 beatboxing! Wonderful.
'Life's for livin'...yeah, that's our philosophy...' What a lyric!
This is epic! Always a hit!
Great song and reaction. It was and still is a song that defines summer.
I was 14 when this came out and can remember it like yesterday.
I’ve loved this song since the first time I heard it when I was about 11 or 12 and I’m 61 years old now. Absolute classic 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was a massive hit, loved the variety of music we had, going from Deep Purple to this
Summertime classic song
this 🇬🇧 rock band made this a worldwide hit in 1970 ! Mungo Jerry could get you dancin down the street. I still get up singing & dancing to this fantastic song 🎧☮️😻🇨🇦
For another "Summer" song give a listen to "Summer In The City" by the Lovin' Spoonful. They had a string of fun hits in the 1960's and were sorta the East Coast version of the Mama & Papas as members of both bands had worked together earlier on and had both grown out of the NYC Folk scene. Do You Believe In Magic is a favorite of mine.
Carry On!!
I was going to suggest The Lovin' Spoonful and John Sebastian as a similar vibe too. Couldn't agree with you more. Bring on The Lovin' Spoonful!
Have you heard "Dreadlock Holiday" by 10cc? You should...
Summer Breeze - Seals and Crofts
Yes Love Love,n Spoonful
Great song
Harri! I, too, was in High School in 1970. Mungo Jerry did another song that was pretty risque for the time. It's called "The Pushbike Song."
You guys were lucky to be around in the 60s and 70s
This takes me back to that summer! It got tons of radio play.
Remember Don't Drink and Drive
Who did that?
If you like boots you MUST check out early videos of the Beatles, they started the whole boot craze with their "Beatle boots"
There were dozens and dozens of fun summer songs 1955-1970. Isn't that a statement about the times?
I'm surprised David Lee Roth never did a version of this
I don't know who shaggy is, Mungo Jerry is the only version I've heard, I remember when it came out Great song
If you want to hear another great summertime song, check out Sunny Days by Lighthouse, a great Canadian 1970s band.
1970 was actualy a bit 'after' this kind of vibe, I would guess 1968. But what the hey - genius isn't time bound!
MUNGO JERRY - In The Summertime (1970 Street Video Clip) *** HD ***. Filmed in Hyde Park. Not looking for a reaction, but I think you'll want to check this out.
hi harri- i googled shaggy and saw his photo. he doesn't have gapped teeth...i don't think he is the same guy as in the video.
Who is Shaggy? Only Shaggy I know is from Scooby Doo cartoons.
Listen to "Lady Rose" By Mungo Jerry.
Rich girls expected it.
Wait whut? Not Shaggy?
Next thing you’ll be telling me that Pato Banton & Musical Youth - Pretty Woman is actually based on some well known song too 🤪😅🤣
He looks like Pushkin.

Summer 1 June 31 August
Yeah we were having fun back in the day. LOL Well, some people were, I was too busy bringing up kids. But the music was good anyway. I'm not sure that political correctness was even a thing back then. As far as I remember.
"In the Summertime" is the debut single by British rock band Mungo Jerry. Written and composed by its lead singer, Ray Dorset, it celebrates the carefree days of summer. In 1970, it reached number one in charts around the world, including seven weeks on the UK Singles Chart, two weeks on one of the Canadian charts, and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the US. It became one of the best-selling singles of all-time, eventually selling 30 million copies.
I believe it’s the number 3 best selling single of all time.
Wow! A debut single? Imagine that?? They must have thought this stuff was easy 😂🤣
@HarriBestReactions they had other stuff Baby Jump was No1
Great mutton chops on the singer and yes this song was everywhere in the summer of 70.
I wonder when SLY & THE FAMILY STONE will get a few more songs as reactions? That's another mutton-chop band.
Love this song! Another great song is Summer Breeze-Seals and Croft!! Keep on Rockin`
YES!!!!
K
Just listened to the old Charts show on Saturday This was a big number 1 THIS WEEK in 1970.
As one of the few people who liked Cats and went to see the film Mungo Jerry is one of the felines in the original T S Eliot poems From what I remember he is a very naughty moggy
Check out "These boots are made for walking" by Frank Sinatra's daughter Nancy.
This song to me always signifies summer is here
I still remember seeing this video aired on TV a couple of times back then. Love these guys. The guy blowing on the jug is great! And love that Dixieland ragtime style of piano playing. (I guess that's what you would call it. Or something similar. How they used to play those old upright pianos back in the old, old days.)
Great seeing you long ago, Harri. I was in mid high school with this song. So happy and a groovy groove. Oh, I was in California near the ocean 😊
Harri, love it as ever, my God in 1970 I was 16 and playing in my first band in Glasgow and a full blown hippie ah what a decade to be a teen/20's. Check out another Mungo Jerry song "LADY ROSE ", every bit as good as Summertime. Take care kid.
Now it comes full cicle is son and girls are singers to
Paul Simon on upright bass.
Never knew Shaggy covered this song. Thanks, gonna check it out.
This was ver popular in 1970. A cool vibe to it!!
Time passes quickly for all of us!😁
Scary stuff
@@HarriBestReactions No not att all!
Perfect song to usher in Summer!
This song and Rikki Don't Lose That Number by Steely Dan bring me to my youth and Venice Beach, California in an instant!
I can't get over the fact I am older than this song.
Thanks for your reaction!
Great reaction, Harri, especially since it caught you by such surprise with its origins. Also, didn't know you were such a bootsman. I like the guy playing the 'bottle' instrument.
More summer fun songs: Summertime by the Jamies, 1958. IN THE SUMMERTIME, Roger Miller, 1964. SUMMER IN THE CITY, The Lovin' Spoonful. LAZY HAZY CRAZY DAYS OF SUMMER, Nat King Cole, 1963. HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME, Sly and the Family Stone, 1969. Eddie Cochran - Summertime Blues, 1950s.
Some encyclopedic stuff here 😀
And more “recent”: DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Summertime 😁
I love it, I was 18!❤️
I was 20...
I was 18 too
Same
Hey, some of us blighters were even (just) born back then! Dispatch your disparage of the guys maybe even older than your parents very carefully! We might find a cause to join up, after all! 😇
Also listen to I’m aMighty Mighty Man by Mungo Jerry. Especially his Paris Concert. Later, he became known as Mungo Jerry. He is an Englishman.
Another song of Mungo jerry " lady rose " you will see another good song
Probably meant the Summer solstice Harri. Yep, the lyrics you picked out were unfortunate but loved the song at the time and still feel it's energy, really caught the sixties feel, even though it came out at the end of them.
I was born in 1970! Just turned 51 😂 a happy song! Good hi way singing song!
I was 11 years old in 1970. Great music
It's amazing to consider the driving forces of '50s music - Sinatra/Dean Martin or Hillbilly Country, or Jerry Lee Lewis/Chuck Berry/Elvis - and see that they were delivering music that was roughly equivalent to 30-50-100 year old music. And because Radio was just starting (Germany, 1919 had some of the first nation-wide broadcasts, but it was 1929 before North America was commonly affording radios), musical content relied on 'familiarity'. Not outside-the-box stuff. The Beatles didn't start this movement - they simply demonstrated 'outside the box' could be very profitable. Of course, there were 10 years of predecessors for this - which were the Beatles' main influences. But the Beatles were waving albums around saying, "See? You don't need to be stuck in one or two genres. Write yer own - write any ol' kind." THIS is was the Beatles' biggest influences - they opened the doors and so many others charged through.
This came out the year I graduated high school. 1970, so long ago. 😉
What a great old song , I love this , hii Harri , they were unique , enjoy , I was a teenager lol
prehistoric beat-boxer! LMAO
Jug band music is always fun.
He was also one of Freddie Mercury,'s best friends
You’d look good in those boots & his shirt too 😁☮️
