The Fujifilm 150-600mm f5.6-8 OIS WR is a unique lens offering unbeatable reach with a 900mm full frame equivalent reach. This unlocks tremendous capabilities. But how’s the real world performance? How are to images? How good is the handling? Can it autofocus well? We try and give here answers in this video.
You surprised me with this one! I had planned to buy the Zf to cover my street and wildlife needs but the expensive heavy Nikon lenses haven't allowed me to do that. Plus I am heavily invested in Fujifilm. So, I just bought the Tamron 150-500 for X mount. This is my only non-native Fuji lens. I went back and forth between the Tamron and the Fujifilm 150-600, but the aperture and size stopped me. I deal a good bit with shady areas where I live and also travel, so I needed it to be more compact. The Tamron offers this plus an extra full stop of light at 5.6-6.7 and it's also more compact and only 105g more in terms of weight. The magnification on it being a full frame lens is amazing too! I have no aperture ring but don't miss it since I use the front dial for that. As info, I'm using the X-H2S - a monster for autofocus and speed if you know how to properly set it up. I will likely pick up the X-T5 in the future as well, preferably when a few more used copies come in. All of that said, for the general user who needs a native x mount for wildlife, such as safaris or anywhere there is plenty of light, this would be a fantastic option as you have shown! Thank you for giving Fujifilm some love!
This is why I want Nikon to bring out 45Mp APSC sensor. In the past D3/D300, D5/D500 matched MP count. Fuji has proved the 40mp can be done. I believe that the new APSC pro sensor should be developed by Nikon in house 🏡
@@marxiewasalittlegirl They do. They make the basic sensor for many cameras and Nikon Tweaks. However, the sensor in D3 was Not Sony. The D850 was I believe and all Z cameras for sure.
@@marxiewasalittlegirl Sony manufactures the sensors, they don't necessarily develop them, but Nikon has definitely used straight up Sony sensors in at least some of their cameras. It's important to know, that the Sony semiconductor division and the camera division are two completely separate entities.
At 5:06” the camera is struggling to find bird, there is no second button to be used for focusing, that’s way I use Canon for wildlife photography and use Fuji camera for travel.
Great video on this lens and body combo. I’ve been interested in the XH2 or XH2S more for video capabilities however, I like the info as presented on Fuji’s site. I’ve seen some video that the AF isn’t as great as expected, what’s your experience with these bodies?
The gap against Nikon and Sony is there. But honestly it’s very usable once one knows the shortcomings. The colours are beautiful and the Flog2 is really good
This is an unexpected and interesting review by you. Thank you! I just traded in my Nikon Z6II for a used Fuji X-H2s. This might be a great match for this lens.
Nice video Thank You! I have this lens too and the xt5. Ím very pleased with the resultat I get. Coming from Sony 200-600 I must say this is a great option. My bird photografy has come to a New level with this combo. I can recommend booth the xt5 and 150-600!
Having used this set up and the Nikon Zf, what did you prefer? Both set ups having my interest (I love the retro look camera for day to day but I have a hobby of birding).
Great video! Nice to see... I keep thinkingn about this lens in comparison to other competitors. Thanks for the video. BTW, I sometimes even shoot at iso 6500 on my XT4 and clean them with DXO
I tried this lens with my XT3 and the the autofocus is a bit of a problem...The resolution on XT-3 is not very bad but could be better. Certainly this cannot be handheld as at 600mm it is a bit difficult.
I haven't acquired this lens yet, but I have found that the Fuji X-H2s is a significantly better match for bird and wildlife photography than the X-T5.
Will you again tryinv the lense with the new GFX 100mp camera . How is the lense with long distance targets mountains , moon , sun , Aircraft at 35,000ft
Hi! Can you help me out? I just found your channel and absolutely loved the fun in this review! The intro with the titmouse being as elusive as ever was hilarious. I'm getting back into bird photography and have a pretty healthy budget for a setup. What are you thoughts on the Fujifilm XH2 (or XH2s) with this 150-600mm VERSUS a Canon R7 and the 100-500L lens. I am not a professional, but I go out 3-4 times a week for birding in all kinds of weather and lighting conditions so I'm looking for the kit that is most versatile with pleasant IQ. I don't have any intention of shooting faster than 15fps so that's not a selling point for me. I care more about general AF performance/subject detection and how the systems feel in the hand/button layout (since my outings are ~2+ hour walks/hikes). I would really love your insight here as you give off a high degree of competence and confidence! Note: I am coming from the R6 & primarily 800mm f/11 prime. My biggest gripe with that setup was the 20mp, sometimes ya just wanna crop in! which is why I lean towards the XH2 over the XH2s. If I use mechanical shutter on the XH2 for birds in flight, although it's lower FPS, will I avoid the rolling shutter issues thus not have a big reason to go with the XH2s? Again even for BIF I don't like having too many images to sift through, so FPS 15 or even a bit lower is OK in my mind.
Had this lens for a couple of days and returned it. Just isn't that sharp, and just way too expensive for what it is. Granted, it may be better on the 26 MP X-H2S, but on the 40 MP sensors, an f/8 lens is just stupid. Diffraction is already visibly softening the image, at that point.
@@FramesTM The Sony 200-600 is cheaper where I live, and that's f6.3 at 600mm. Sure, it's heavier, but I would hardly call that an advantage and definitely not something to justify it's high cost. A cheap f4 lens is also lighter than an expensive f2.8, that's just the nature of small aperture lenses.
Frames lose the members only jacket and get some proper camo shirts for when you do birding, get to your spot and sit there for 30 min w/o moving and let the animals get use to you being in the area. Once they know your not a predator they will go about their business and you will have BIF shots
Lol dress up like an Airsofter in camo gear .. If you wanna play dress up then by all means batter on .But telling others they should wear camo gear .. IWearing camo gear does not make a difference because wildlife is still aware of your presence factamundo there sense of smell is far greater than humans

Do you use bird tracking, and which firmware on the X-T5?

Absolutely
@@FramesTM The X-T5 is my all time favorite travel camera, though.
the lens actually focus hunts in low light conditions and among all other 600mm zoom lenses I think Nikon has made the best 180-600mm lens
That I agree. But much heavier. Lightness has huge value too
All lenses hunt more or slow down in poor light, with this one the challenge is the crap in the way, like branches, leaves, whatever.
Saying it again 😂Please replicate this with the Z50. The Zfc has no function buttons and Z30 has no viewfinder. So, if you do it, please use the Z50 😃
