  • We painted the actual winter sky constellations with glow-in-the-dark paint. It's pretty epic. Best part? You can do this too!

    So this is what I do. I use push pin type thumb tacks. They work better than tape. You can get the paper tighter up to the ceiling.

    This looks amazing, would it be a good idea to do it with out the stencil 🤔

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  3 года назад +2

      Totally doable without the stencil! For this room, the stencil covered the main section, but there were some places along the edges that the stencil didn't reach. So for those spots, I just went along and randomly placed paint dots to fill in the blank areas.
      I used the stencil because it comes with two big advantages:
      1) It's accurate to the night sky. I'm pretty nerdy, so I think it's so cool that it matches the actual stars in the sky. 🤓
      2) It can be hard to tell where you've already painted without the stencil. When I did the blank areas that extended beyond the stencil, it was hard to tell if I'd already filled in a section or how dense my star placement was for that section. The stencil takes out that guesswork and keeps the stars even across the whole ceiling.
      So it's definitely feasible without the stencil, and even with the stencil you might need to "blindly" add stars to sections that extend beyond it. But the stencil does make things easier. Hope this helps!

    Hey!! Love this, thinking of doing the same. Can you still see the stars when watching a movie?

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  3 года назад

      You might be able to see them a little bit, but not much, with the tv on. They do show up great when the lights are off, and you start to notice more and more as your eyes adjust!

    Can you use glow-in-the-dark spraypaint with the stencils?

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  2 года назад +1

      I haven't tried this, so I can't say for sure, but my gut is saying it might not turn out the best. The paper tends to hang away from the ceiling a little bit when it's hung up, and when using the paint brush you just push the stencil against the ceiling to know where to line up the star holes. But with spray paint, that gap and the force of the spray paint hitting the paper might cause it to shift a bunch and not got crisp, clear stars. Hope this helps! If you do give the stencil and spray paint method a try, I'd love to know how it goes for you.

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  2 года назад

      You might be able to check at a Lowe's or Home Depot because they might stock specialty paints, like glow in the dark paint, but otherwise I'm not familiar with other brands of glow in the dark paint. Sorry I can't be more help!

  • @fairamir1
    @fairamir1 2 года назад

    Suggestion: The stencil panels are like 12 feet long...why not just cut them into three 4 foot sections ? So much easier to tape up. And no reason the tape the entire ceiling with the stencils at the same time, tape up the first 2 rows....paint..then add 2 more rows....and on and on.

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  2 года назад

      Not a bad idea! I think the biggest hurdle with cutting the panels smaller is it would make it harder to line them up. Especially since the paint is hard to see once it's on the ceiling. Also it might take a little longer if swapping between taping up panels and painting, since the painting portion goes pretty quick. Then again, hanging up the long panels takes a bit of time, so smaller panels might work out better. Wouldn't hurt to try!

    • @fairamir1
      @fairamir1 2 года назад

      @@CraftersAutonomous You do not need a perfect alignment..they are just dots on a ceiling....would not make a dam bit of
      difference...

    • @CraftersAutonomous
      @CraftersAutonomous  2 года назад

      @@fairamir1 Well the whole idea of using the stencil is that the stencil matches the actual position of the stars in the night sky. So if you want just random star placement, then you could skip the stencil completely. But since the whole idea of using the stencil is to accurately match the night sky, not lining things up right would defeat the whole purpose of the stencil :)
