I'm so very sad. Avi is my favorite member of this group. He is the soul of their sound. I understand his feelings. I'm sure it's hard having to be gone from home so much. He said he doesn't want to hold the group back. But, I think this will be the beginning of the end for them. I feel as sad as Avi sounds.

A lot of people refer back to what Avi said after their Dog Days performance, when he adorably lacrimated and indicated that he wanted to continue working with these people. It may seem ironic now, but meant what he expressed. At that point, things had barely even begun. He didn't know how difficult the lifestyle would be. The fact that he genuinely meant what he said is probably a big part of why he lasted as long as he did, and I just wish they had slowed down a bit to accommodate him so that he could have comfortably stayed.
I completely understand Avi's decision. You will be missed Avi! The Pentatonix group formed by all of you is truly amazing! I love listening to all of you sing together! Best wishes Avi! Many Blessings! :)
NOOOOO WHYYYY!!!!! I mean, of course I respect his reasons and no one can argue with them but it still hurts so much. Gdamnnn. I know, I knowwww he will have more music anyway yes but idk... I love his songs with PTX so much and his solos kill me. Such an incredible talent.. plus his amazing bass that really brings an extra dimension to every song. If they have to replace him, that person will have a hard job attempting to learn every nuance of his in every song they've ever done/will be performing. I will miss his powerful, soothing voice in songs such like Light In The Hallway and many others ughhh. We will get no more stunning solos like in The First Noel or Say Something.. But at least he will be at peace ♥ Such a beautiful soul who deserves to be happy.
Al M I'm sure that any new person added to PTX, will learn all of their songs, but will not be a carbon copy of Avi. They will put their own spin on the music. Plus, it wouldn't be fair, if we expected them to copy everything that Avi did.&u( ?

I have the utmost confidence that things will work out. We may have a different person singing bass, but he will bring a new/different sound to their older music. I personally don't believe they can continue to do as well without Avi or a bass in general. The meat and potatoes were a huge part of the group... I do hope they continue and find a new bass, though I'm not sure anyone could ever truly replace Avi.
They have been keeping up a pretty crazy pace. It's not a surprise that it would eventually require a break. Being half-there for family and friends is hard. I have no animosity or negative feelings against Avi. You had an amazing run, but now it's time to slow down and breathe. Take it easy Avi. :)

I've always thought that from a business standpoint (and ONLY from a business standpoint) the members of a band are all expendable, save for the vocalist. Great instrument players exist aplenty, but there is no one out there with your exact same voice. There is no one out there with Avi's same beautiful voice. I can't imagine their music without a bass and the thought of a replacement is just. No.
avi do what you got to do pentatonix believe it or not has changed my life i started listening to the group about 6 months ago I was on a suicide mode and a friend grabbed me and made me listen to hallelujah and i cried because believe it or not made me feel really good and thanks to you and your group I lived to see my son turn two. i start to feel bad i listen. family and your heart are number one avi kudos to you for following both I know it may not mean a huge amount but I support your choice. and thanks pentatonix for giving me inspiration. you all are life savers
My first time listening to this group ,I loved avi's voice,it made me follow up their music but when I got to see avi's absence,I lost guts to listen to the songs where he wasn't,Avi you are my best favourite dear,your voice was lifting my soul,mood and inspiring always could make me feel you,just like Kelvin's voice,you guys are awesome in that area of your voices,I love you so much dear,I shall always remember you in the songs you did with your group,am sad however I want to see you happy so I support your decision,love you,athousand blessings in what you gonna do in your life,♥️🌹
You can still hear him. He's on his own now with a small band and a very laid back schedule compared to PTX. He is still writing music and singing so he is okay. Look under his name Avi Kaplan.
I can't allow myself to think that they will try to replace him. he has been with them through everything and you can't replace someone who has been there through all the experience from the Sing Off to now no one can replace that I will miss him forever and I am just glad that they did what they did. they have been something I could turn to when I felt like I was falling. I feel like he's important enough that the management ought to do more to accommodate his desired pace. Especially now that they are so successful, I do not see why they can't slow down a little. Is having to be constantly "on" or do a certain number of press appearances or be on social media constantly or record twice a year or whatever it is really worth losing him? Even if it takes having another bass do the touring, just invite him in to studio recordings (and I'm sure he'd still want to do some writing and arranging)--why wouldn't they be willing to do what it takes to continue to use this great voice? Whoever is telling him he is holding the group back if he doesn't jump as fast as they want him to is just wrong.
I was at a graduation party today when I found out about this. I didn't believe it until I saw this video, and I'm incredibly saddened by the news. However, I am so so so so so proud of Avi and his talent and accomplishments as a musician. I look forward to seeing what you will do in the future, and I want to thank him profusely for being a part of the band that has help me so much much love, Avi, good luck and Godspeed.

It’s sad that no one other than Scott tried to comfort Avi, but given the things that have happened between them I guess none of the others felt compassion. We’ll never know the whole truth and really, we don’t need to, it’s no one’s business but their’s.
What's great about this group is their ability to keep their business private. Many should take example on this group for being professional and recognized for their talent. That's it.
If you look at how they are all sitting with their hands etc, it's very clear that they have been coached in how to make a video like this without sending any inadvert signals and looking properly sad. (which is 100% the way you should do it when you're as big as that). Scott just generally seems to be a more "fidgety" and impulsive person, so I think the others most likely were just following the directives. We know Kevin is close with Avi still so seems doubtful that he didn't feel connection. We also have to remember that none of this was news to them. He had talked to them many times before, they had privately dealt with the events.
Avi left and Matt joined, that's all, but as we all know, the music of the group is completely different. It's not necessarily just because of Avi and Matt, the other members have grown up since they were 19 or 22, so it's only natural that they'll change. I loved pentatonix when he was sassy and immature. But as the members grow, so does the group. It's a little lonely, but I think it's a very healthy thing. I still love pentatonix. I like everyone, of course including Matt. But now I'm crazy about Avi's solo activities. I thought his music wasn't my type, but I was wrong! And now that those 6 guys look happy, that alone makes me happy.
I think it was time. They are all beginning to live their own lives and become truly individual and I will always support all of them. Avi was definitely one of the best parts of Pentatonix, and he'll be just as good on his own.
I've been under a rock for the past 7 years. I come out, turn on You Tube to experience a wonderful sound. I just found you and you are splitting up? Beautiful music in an ugly world made me excited to listen again. I'm going to be selfish, you guys are so refreshing together. Together is where you all belong. I have a lot to listen to, but now, nothing new to look for.

I think I am heartbroken. For the first time in a very long time, there was a group of unlimited potential and pure talent. Now, they are splitting. What is it about fame that destroys many good bands? I am so sad to see this group end. I will mourn their loss for a long time to come. Please reunite!

Your resonant velvet ton offered a home for all the explorations and soaring melodies you all discovered together. I'm sure you will make music with your Pentatonix family again. Lets all hold this with love and compassion and deep celebration and appreciation for what you've all created together and how youve loved and grown and discovered together, even as we recognize that change and transformation is constant and also a new door and threshold to cross into the Mysteries of life. What now? What takes place of this group's career? I understand Avi's reasonings to leave (as heartbreaking as it is) and I can see why PTX is continuing. But how? and is it really "Pentatonix" without him. Even if they "replace" his position, would it be the same? Even with all these questions I have to say, Avi's decision to leave is incredibly heartbreaking but I respect (and still love) him for why he for choosing it and I wish Avi, Scott, Mitch, Kirstie, Kevin, just Pentatonix overall the best of luck with all their futures; career wise and other.
This is so sad, partially because the future of the group seems to me to be really uncertain now. I can only see about three options (though I'm sure there's more): the rest stay together and make music just the four of them, they find a new bass, or this is the beginning of the end and it won't be long until the whole group is separated for their own solo projects. The last two would be particularly depressing. Nobody could REALLY replace him. I just hope that all of them will be lifelong friends. I do support all of them regardless, though. I think wherever they go as individuals with their lives will be incredible.

Big mistake - HUGE. Most bands don't survive when someone of Avi's caliber leaves. Why not say, hey, lets take more time off as a group. Let's work together to make a schedule that's comfortable for everyone. I hear he is going to finish the remaining tour dates -- so that's good. It'll give him time to change his mind ;)
London Raine, I agree. But, that's not always true. Home Free has gone through several changes in members since their inception and survived the changes. Still, successfully replacing Avi Kaplan would be a huge accomplishment.

NNNNOOOO I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS LITERALLY HAPPENING.... when I first saw that I started crying....my inspiration is drowning and someday it won't be here... when he talked about the bad times in his life and when he was bullied and treated poorly it was my hope and knowing that I am not alone in this cruel world because I am a bald girl and my abusive alcoholic father and peers bully me constantly and my mom isn't here to protect me anymore and he was my protection from all of that....and now that is leaving...he is leaving I feel alone again

I'd like to nominate the bass from Nota, the group that won the first Sing-Off. That guy has range and soul and could bring some zippy new rhythms to Pentatonix, maybe finally get you guys to go south, to Mexico and South America, which you never got around to. This could be made into a positive change in direction if you got someone like that.
Having been a 30+ year Sweet Adeline (4 part harmony for women) I know that breaking up this group could be a very sad and non-replaceable act. I've known quartets that broke up that had placed very high in competition who decided to replace one member and never found that level of success again. I'm broken hearted to think that Avi could not have slowed down the pace to his liking. I wish you all success and hope that I'm wrong about finding that exact celestial combo that you had together. You won't see this but goodbye Avi. Thank you so much for moving me with your music and making me smile. Thank you for being strong for this long, and I understand that you couldn't cope any longer. If you believe this decision is right, then follow through with it. Just know that I support you and Pentatonix, no matter what happens or what you go through together. I can't say I'm not sad to see you go, but I don't want you to suffer either. We will miss you sooo much, and I hope that you will find happiness with your family.

I've always thought that from a business standpoint (and ONLY from a business standpoint) the members of a band are all expendable, save for the vocalist. Great instrument players exist aplenty, but there is no one out there with your exact same voice.
There is no one out there with Avi's same beautiful voice.
I can't imagine their music without a bass and the thought of a replacement is just. No.

avi do what you got to do pentatonix believe it or not has changed my life i started listening to the group about 6 months ago I was on a suicide mode and a friend grabbed me and made me listen to hallelujah and i cried because believe it or not made me feel really good and thanks to you and your group I lived to see my son turn two. i start to feel bad i listen. family and your heart are number one avi kudos to you for following both I know it may not mean a huge amount but I support your choice. and thanks pentatonix for giving me inspiration. you all are life savers
My first time listening to this group ,I loved avi's voice,it made me follow up their music but when I got to see avi's absence,I lost guts to listen to the songs where he wasn't,Avi you are my best favourite dear,your voice was lifting my soul,mood and inspiring always could make me feel you,just like Kelvin's voice,you guys are awesome in that area of your voices,I love you so much dear,I shall always remember you in the songs you did with your group,am sad however I want to see you happy so I support your decision,love you,athousand blessings in what you gonna do in your life,♥️🌹
You can still hear him. He's on his own now with a small band and a very laid back schedule compared to PTX. He is still writing music and singing so he is okay. Look under his name Avi Kaplan.
I can't allow myself to think that they will try to replace him. he has been with them through everything and you can't replace someone who has been there through all the experience from the Sing Off to now no one can replace that I will miss him forever and I am just glad that they did what they did. they have been something I could turn to when I felt like I was falling. I feel like he's important enough that the management ought to do more to accommodate his desired pace. Especially now that they are so successful, I do not see why they can't slow down a little. Is having to be constantly "on" or do a certain number of press appearances or be on social media constantly or record twice a year or whatever it is really worth losing him? Even if it takes having another bass do the touring, just invite him in to studio recordings (and I'm sure he'd still want to do some writing and arranging)--why wouldn't they be willing to do what it takes to continue to use this great voice? Whoever is telling him he is holding the group back if he doesn't jump as fast as they want him to is just wrong.
I was at a graduation party today when I found out about this. I didn't believe it until I saw this video, and I'm incredibly saddened by the news. However, I am so so so so so proud of Avi and his talent and accomplishments as a musician. I look forward to seeing what you will do in the future, and I want to thank him profusely for being a part of the band that has help me so much much love, Avi, good luck and Godspeed.

It’s sad that no one other than Scott tried to comfort Avi, but given the things that have happened between them I guess none of the others felt compassion. We’ll never know the whole truth and really, we don’t need to, it’s no one’s business but their’s.
What's great about this group is their ability to keep their business private. Many should take example on this group for being professional and recognized for their talent. That's it.
If you look at how they are all sitting with their hands etc, it's very clear that they have been coached in how to make a video like this without sending any inadvert signals and looking properly sad. (which is 100% the way you should do it when you're as big as that). Scott just generally seems to be a more "fidgety" and impulsive person, so I think the others most likely were just following the directives. We know Kevin is close with Avi still so seems doubtful that he didn't feel connection. We also have to remember that none of this was news to them. He had talked to them many times before, they had privately dealt with the events.
Avi left and Matt joined, that's all, but as we all know, the music of the group is completely different. It's not necessarily just because of Avi and Matt, the other members have grown up since they were 19 or 22, so it's only natural that they'll change.
I loved pentatonix when he was sassy and immature.
But as the members grow, so does the group. It's a little lonely, but I think it's a very healthy thing.
I still love pentatonix. I like everyone, of course including Matt.
But now I'm crazy about Avi's solo activities. I thought his music wasn't my type, but I was wrong!
And now that those 6 guys look happy, that alone makes me happy.
I think it was time. They are all beginning to live their own lives and become truly individual and I will always support all of them. Avi was definitely one of the best parts of Pentatonix, and he'll be just as good on his own.
I've been under a rock for the past 7 years. I come out, turn on You Tube to experience a wonderful sound. I just found you and you are splitting up? Beautiful music in an ugly world made me excited to listen again. I'm going to be selfish, you guys are so refreshing together. Together is where you all belong. I have a lot to listen to, but now, nothing new to look for.

I think I am heartbroken. For the first time in a very long time, there was a group of unlimited potential and pure talent. Now, they are splitting. What is it about fame that destroys many good bands? I am so sad to see this group end. I will mourn their loss for a long time to come. Please reunite!

What now? What takes place of this group's career? I understand Avi's reasonings to leave (as heartbreaking as it is) and I can see why PTX is continuing. But how? and is it really "Pentatonix" without him. Even if they "replace" his position, would it be the same? Even with all these questions I have to say, Avi's decision to leave is incredibly heartbreaking but I respect (and still love) him for why he for choosing it and I wish Avi, Scott, Mitch, Kirstie, Kevin, just Pentatonix overall the best of luck with all their futures; career wise and other.

This is so sad, partially because the future of the group seems to me to be really uncertain now. I can only see about three options (though I'm sure there's more): the rest stay together and make music just the four of them, they find a new bass, or this is the beginning of the end and it won't be long until the whole group is separated for their own solo projects. The last two would be particularly depressing. Nobody could REALLY replace him. I just hope that all of them will be lifelong friends. I do support all of them regardless, though. I think wherever they go as individuals with their lives will be incredible.

Big mistake - HUGE. Most bands don't survive when someone of Avi's caliber leaves. Why not say, hey, lets take more time off as a group. Let's work together to make a schedule that's comfortable for everyone. I hear he is going to finish the remaining tour dates -- so that's good. It'll give him time to change his mind ;)

London Raine, I agree. But, that's not always true. Home Free has gone through several changes in members since their inception and survived the changes. Still, successfully replacing Avi Kaplan would be a huge accomplishment.
I was agreeing to "hey, let's take more time off as a group". I'm not sure about his opinion on the band's survival.

NNNNOOOO I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS LITERALLY HAPPENING.... when I first saw that I started crying....my inspiration is drowning and someday it won't be here... when he talked about the bad times in his life and when he was bullied and treated poorly it was my hope and knowing that I am not alone in this cruel world because I am a bald girl and my abusive alcoholic father and peers bully me constantly and my mom isn't here to protect me anymore and he was my protection from all of that....and now that is leaving...he is leaving I feel alone again
I understand that you need space and you can't keep up....we all knew that this was going to end eventually but I never thought it would be like this...I speak for everyone by saying I am happy you are doing what works best for you but Pentatonix will never be the same without you and we wish you the best of luck from here on out

I'd like to nominate the bass from Nota, the group that won the first Sing-Off. That guy has range and soul and could bring some zippy new rhythms to Pentatonix, maybe finally get you guys to go south, to Mexico and South America, which you never got around to. This could be made into a positive change in direction if you got someone like that.

Having been a 30+ year Sweet Adeline (4 part harmony for women) I know that breaking up this group could be a very sad and non-replaceable act. I've known quartets that broke up that had placed very high in competition who decided to replace one member and never found that level of success again. I'm broken hearted to think that Avi could not have slowed down the pace to his liking. I wish you all success and hope that I'm wrong about finding that exact celestial combo that you had together.
