- Join me for a trip to the movies! But whats playing? Nothing! This theater has sat abandoned for almost two decades. Join me for an urbex adventure as I explore this decaying ruin that was once a place of silver screens and neon dreams!
Seeing theaters abandoned like this makes me sad. I thoroughly enjoy going to see movies, something about getting lost in a movie at the theater just makes my heart happy. I hope theaters don't become a thing of the past!
Me too! They just have a particular vibe
makes me sad too i haven't been since before 2020 i went so much as a kid teen and young adult now some reason not anymore, loved it so much just no one to go with anymore i guess
Definitely feels like there's an empty spot beside rt 9 andvthe parkway now. Saw quite a few films here before it was closed. It was a favorite haunt of my mom and her best friend. I still remember the lobby and can confirm the neon lights looked really cool.
It's crazy to see how much theaters have changed their set up. Now we have stadium style seating and much bigger rooms and screens. Those long, narrow rooms with level seats hold such good memories (unless someone tall sat in front of you lol)!
Friendly suggestion to wear a respirator or decent quality face mask in places like these. Lots of these places have debris/mold floating about that you don't want to breathe in.
I agree, it is so weird to not see it there anymore
I went to this theater back in 2002 and 2005. The last movie I saw there was Star Wars 3. 2002 was 8 Mile. My wife and I still go to the movies when something we want to see comes out, regardless of being able to watch it at home once its released for streaming. Its the experience we go for, and another way to have time for us, from the kids. 😊 Thank you for this!
This is so sad to see a Movie Theater just left abandoned to rot like this. I still go to the Movie theater to this day. Just to get that Theater experience than staying at home to watch it but I know that will change in the future unfortunately.
Yeah I miss the theater experience. I should try and go more often
@RayOutThere I always go quite a bit with my twin son Blake even though he doesn't drive he has his own money and he doesn't drive and I always got to drive but he's always asking every month which movies I like and his Dad likes to see and either we go along with my husband if he's off from work or it'll be just me and my son going to see a movie. The last movie we seen at the movie was in November after my 59th birthday on November 8th we went on November 10th and seen "Miss Marvel." And in 2022 my husband Terry and I went to this multiplex 40 miles away from us in Elgin, Illinois to see this movie with actor Ryan Phillippe because I'm a super huge fan of his I had to see this movie called "Collide," which was an excellent movie but the theater had reclining seats and heated too if it was winter we seen this movie olin August of 2022 But in general what I'm relating to the subject is that we go the the movies quite often!!! 🤗🎞🧈📽🍿🎬❤️
@RayOutThere "Great video I loved it!!!" 🤗🎞📽🎬🍿🧈❤️
Hey there Ray, your video was fantastic! It's crazy how we all remember driving by that old movie theater on the Garden State Parkway, but you actually went inside and explored it, which is super cool. It's sad that the cost of going to the movies has risen so much, but I still find value in the special experience of watching a film on the big screen.
I miss the experience of going to the movies. I went to the theater recently to see the new Godzilla and I had a blast. I should really try and go more often
The footage looking down on the theater seats just made my stomach drop. Good to see the door duct-taped to make a railing. I wonder if the sinking foundation would have been obvious to the patrons before the building closed.
used to pass this place all the time a while back. My dad went here as a kid. sad to see it in this state.
I worked in a similar movie theater in high school, even as a projectionist. Can confirm those old projectors are junk now because what’s left of the movie biz has gone digital. One shot showed the “platters”. Films would arrive in cans on reels; you spliced them together with yellow tape to mark the reel change and wound them onto the platters. Then you would take the beginning of the film from the middle and thread it through pulleys and into the projector and back onto another platter. It was complex but I could start a movie in under 5 minutes. A lost art for sure.
That mustve been so interesting to do something like that! It really is a lost art
I still love going to movies, but there’s hardly anyone else there anymore even at this massive AMC I go to. It’s unsustainable, and I predict more theater closures coming.
Very sad to see 😢 and that movie equipment could have been saved. Definitely looked like an end of days when you were in there. Thanks for sharing Ray
This place felt like the apocalypse!
Saw movies there when I was a kid
I always wanted to check it out but never got a chance. Went here often as a kid. Great video.
Thank you!
Wow really cool video once again, it is sad to see a movie theater in that condition, i remember as a kid always going to movie theaters and having a great time
So cool you got in there. I just drove by the other day. Looked to my left heading south and it was just a flat piece of land. Place had all types of squatter issues. Very sad. I never got a chance to explore. Another iconic location that just closed was the Mahwah Sheridan. Try to get in there it was the star of North Jersey.
Easier said than done, but I appreciate the tip!
Great video Ray! I don't remember the last time I been to a movie theater but sadly I don't think a lot of people go to the theaters much. Seems like a thing of the past like going to the mall, like you said. There is a redevelopment plan for the vacant space now, so it might turn into commercial retail or a housing project in the near future
Its sad, everything cool is disappearing
It reminds me of a video that I watched about ODEON Stack in Dundee, Scotland that was opened from 1993 to 2001, the movie theatre was abandoned for 21 years and it was eventually demolished.
It’s sad to see what once was a loved movie theater look like this, but this really makes me want to go exploring abandoned places again. I’m in Pennsylvania though and I don’t know of any
There are lots in PA
These abandoned movie theater videos make me so sad, but I’m drawn to the nostalgia. I have to know when the theater opened, when they closed, and what were the final films played there. I also like to know the problems and challenges that caused them to close in the first place. Great video!
Thank you so much!
Spoooooky ! Your braver than me going in that place. Yikes!!!!😊😊😊
Exploring abandoned places is fun!
I never really went to the theaters that much, but the last movie I saw was The Woman In Black.
Great video it's sad to see this movie theater just left abandoned and the movie theater in my city was closed for 20 years Just 5 years ago they opened a new one It's very nice
I'm glad they at least opened up a new one, it would be a shame if you didn't have one at all
Fine work Raymond. You should be very proud
Not as proud as I am of you
I like going to the movies i go regularly
I wanted to check out this place sooooo bad. I actually drove past it a few days ago and its all gone 😞
I wish I went sooner than I did
My favourite cinema to go to in my town as a kid was at the canon (formerly ABC cinema).
It closed down in the early 90s due to competition from the local odeon and Warner bros cinema, and it has remained empty ever since. The building still stands. Such a shame to be empty 30+ year's later.
I've seen a few video's of it on RUclips, thanks to urban explorer's.
Last time I went to the cinema was for Ghostbusters afterlife, I think.🤔
Most modern movies are rubbish, imho.
Its so sad to see places we have fond memories of close down
Good vid Ray! I used to pass by this theater many times through my childhood and early adulthood. My theaters were movie city 5 in east Brunswick on 18 and also the freehold raceway cinemas
I miss going to the theaters back in the day. It seemed more magical back then
Hi ray happy new year! another great video! My sister worked here back in the 70"s it was a great place never thought I would ever see it this way some time ago they considered making this place an indoor flea market but the town would not approve it
I guess the sinkhole was too much of a problem
@@RayOutThere yes that was the problem but they kept it secret for a long time
Creepy.
I haven't seen a movie in theaters in over 15 years. Great place to get sick, & they never steam clean those disgusting seats, plus video games replaced movies as preferred entertainment. Speaking of which, if I was going to vandalize a condemned building, I'd paint The Freezer from Saints Row 2, the Shadow Man from LSD Dream Emulator, a mannequin from Voices of the Void, & the Umbrella Man from Half-Life 2 instead of words.
At least you'd be putting in more effort than these graffiti "artists"
Next to it used to be razz ma tazz
free ketchup
