    One of THE greatest drummers in rock history...Tommy Aldridge

  • @Rockavages
    @Rockavages 5 лет назад +19

    Tommy doesn't need a huge drum set, he makes that baby sound like thunder. He is the very definition of greatness, extremely talented and down to earth.
    Long live Tommy Aldrige !!!

    Tommy Aldridge is in my opinion a living legend in rock drumming. His style is so original and he hits like a beast! Saw him with Whitesnake many years back when he was playing the red Yamaha kit and I was just in awe of what he could do with a drumkit.

    Tommy really contributed a lot more to the craft than people might realize. The double bass work he was doing back in the early 1970s surpassed even that of his contemporaries Carmine Appice and Billy Cobham, who were pioneers of double bass drumming. Listen to Black Oak Arkansas's live album Raunch 'N' Roll (1972). You'll hear that Tommy was way ahead of his time.

    He's a very, very nice fellow. I met him at a drum clinic in San Jose back in..... well a while ago. During a question and answer session someone asked him if he had any advice for drummers starting out. He said, "Lessons. Definitely take lessons. I never took lessons. I think I would have gone a lot farther as a drummer if I had taken lessons."
    Farther?!?! He played for Ozzy, Whitesnake, Malmsteen and with the best of the best.

    The drummers who retain their unique and distinct sound are those who stick to what they've always used, and how they've always tuned their drums, regardless of the what the situation is.. I may not be a famous drummer, but i've always retained the same drum sound for the last 19 years of a 27 year career, only because the years prior to that i was still in my fledgling drummer stage and was trying to find my sound, modelling my own after guys like Bonzo, Alex Van Halen, Charlie Watts, etc.

    The reason why Tommy is a drum icon is because he is the pioneer of double bass drumming. He set the standard back in the seventies when no one else played like that. To invent that kind of playing was very creative, I mean, we're talking 1973, when he was already kicking ass with Black Oak Arkansas... That makes him one of the truly greatest of all time.
