I am inspired every weekend by something wonderful that comes out of Martijn's brain and hands. In particular, when he has to re-do something that won't cooperate... like that one pane of greenhouse glass that wouldn't sit right until he shaved down its frame. Admirable persistence = beautiful results.

My dad built a Greenhouse years ago.. he grew all kinds of stuff in it. In the winter he would sit in it on cold days. As long as it was sunny it was warm in there.. I remember the great earthy smell in it.. He passed in 2006.

We know there are HUGE winter storms, great winds, and major (heavy) snow-fall events in the area. 🏔 Sorry if this has already been discussed, but how will y'all protect the new greenhouse ? 🥶Is there to be some sort of winterisation - partial dismantling, windbreaks, wood-covering the glass etc ? ❄- I guess there's good reason why the ancestors chose to build their mountain shelters in heavy, durable stone.
@@rickmcdixon2675 I,ve lived in the alps all my life (1.600 m) and I've noticed that the glasses Martijn mount have a good thickness and considering the long time he wait for receiving it I can imagine he had ordered anti-crash model. The poles are in the ground and is really difficult that a winter storm or a wind storm can destroy them. The most fragile parts are the windows he uses for the side areas, but only for the glasses mounted that are for civilians homes and not for a greenhouse use. The maximum that can happen is that one or two of that glasses can break with a very limited damage that will be really fast solved

Colder than usual and so much rain.

I am sure the leather apron would come in handy for some of your other projects as well. My grandfathers always had these on hand in their tool shed. ♥🙏

Bike helmets do, at times, double as an umbrella. I see you made it work. Greenhouse looks beautiful. We call them finials in English. Chickens are looking healthy and well. Glad things are going well for you. Just FYI in 'new soil' (engineered soil in a raised bed) it is ALWAYS a rough first year of growing. Sometimes a little Mycorrhizal fungi can really help because regular soil already has a complex web of life in it that has been established for thousands, if not millions of years. Anytime I plant something out or have 'new soil' I dust it with Mycorrhizal to help establish the web of life and bring living soil to the plants. Plants actually don't 'eat fertilizer' they eat the chemical byproducts of the web of life operating in the soil.

Bike helmets do, at times, double as an umbrella. I see you made it work. Greenhouse looks beautiful. We call them finials in English. Chickens are looking healthy and well. Glad things are going well for you. Just FYI in 'new soil' (engineered soil in a raised bed) it is ALWAYS a rough first year of growing. Sometimes a little Mycorrhizal fungi can really help because regular soil already has a complex web of life in it that has been established for thousands, if not millions of years. Anytime I plant something out or have 'new soil' I dust it with Mycorrhizal to help establish the web of life and bring living soil to the plants. Plants actually don't 'eat fertilizer' they eat the chemical byproducts of the web of life operating in the soil.

Your greenhouse is just stunning. It will be incredible in winter. I imagine you will be building more of those. Here in South Africa, it’s too hot. So I will gratefully use your inspiration and dig a semi submerged conservatory like my grandmother had on the farm. Cool in summer, warm in winter. We stumbled upon Lago Maggiore when looking into interesting train trips; the slow train Centovalli from Brig to Domodossola to Locarno looking interesting, so we just took a chance. We fell in love with Locarno and go as often as we can, it's just a delightful area of the world! Have a wonderful trip!
