REM was our secret for a long time. We were kind of sad when they had a hit that got played on the radio. 1987's The One I Love. After that, they started having hit after hit and started showing a more pop influence. They still had songs that kept our interests, but they were no longer ours.
I never noticed the Eddy Vedder stage presence thing! You're right! I was born in 75, so I grew up with these guys. I just love'em. Peace ❤
Thanks for the reaction Rory, I think the story is Micheal Stipe was too nervous to talk and sat out the interview. Eddie was a big fan... he inducted them in the RnR hall of fame. And as stated in other comments, REM were a HUGE influence on legions of bands that came after (the majority of the indie rock/alternative rock movement of the 80s and 90s... both sides of the pond).
They released an EP called ‘Chronic Town’ after their first single (Radio Free Europe) and their first album ‘Murmur’…5 amazing tracks on the Chronic Town EP…first track ‘Wolves, Lower’ and last track ‘Stumble’ are great.
The performance of So. Central Rain on Jools was great. They've done a lot of Jools including a special episode dedicated just to them.
what's up Bunni good to see you

Yooo, 'sup Zen.
Great pick! Their first hit. Love Baby R.E.M. ♥
So many more terrific tunes to choose from...
As for Michael Stipe not chatting with Dave - 2 things. It was unexpected that Dave came out and greeted them after the first song (vs chatting with the band afterwards back at his desk) ... and also, Michael was quite shy and was good with having others represent.
Lydia knows music 👏🏻
@@ljc1520 😘
Along with Luke and many others on this channel who know music
♥
@@LydellC Michael was quite shy - Pull the shutters down and keep saying “I’m not here, this isn’t happening” 😊 x
Radio Free Europe was their first single…the original 7” Hib Tone single version is different to the one on their 1st album Murmur. The track So. Central Rain is off their Second Album ‘Reckoning’…which was not recorded at that point.
They’re just a phenomenal band that influenced everyone that came after them, Eddie Vedder & Pearl Jam, Kurt Cobain & Nirvana, Thom Yorke & Radiohead and the list goes on - R.E.M’s fingerprints are all over these bands!
F.A.O Rory - did you get my R.E.M list I sent on PayPal a few weeks back? I have just resent it to your email, cheers Luke 👍🏻
Like their "89 live performance of Orange Crush, Reelin in the years video
Bill Berry, behind his kit, lookin pissed (arms folded) that he wasn't getting any attention during that last segment. Or I'm just having a senior moment.
Michael Stipe was really shy back then. And yes, he influenced a lot of other performers.
Hey beautiful man, when will you react to Aurora again? Can i make a suggestion?
Also, will you marry me
You cant get there from here
Shiny Happy is probably my least fav of their hits plenty of others to get to first! Orange Crush is a banger of a tune.
