I think this game could have had a chance if Dragon's Dogma II wasn't coming this year. I should have elaborated,I meant that it could have a chance to be GOTY.
@@ChristianKnight-1054 This year feels like the year of co-op games. Kicked off with the Abysmal Suicide Squad, Next Came an insane Success of Helldivers 2, Itsuno releasing his pseudo co-op RPG, Dragons Dogma 2, Really co-op foe anti-social people.. I wonder what we'll see next.
Crazy how this game blew up. But it just shows how much people wanted a fun game after every Triple A failures in the past. Absolutely justified! Bringing freedom to the gaming industry and showing every big studio how the f*ck its done!
The aiming system in this game is one of the most novel and interesting ones I've seen. It is insanely satisfying to just actually have a consistent point of reference for where your bullets will go at all times, and for the game to be designed around it. To the point where I kind of wonder why noone tried this before.
@@BigManGreg-su6bh I mean the "two-dots" approach, where you have the center-of-the-screen crosshair that you point with, but also the free-floating circle that's always tracking the place where your next shot will actually go, which you actually aim with. It creates a very intuitive system for both showcasing the different weights and handling of weapons, and for helping to visualize and convey their recoil patterns. It's kind of like a laser, I guess, but not subject to a laser's physical limitations (or some of the ways in which lasers are often "fudged" in games), and no game has used lasers quite exactly like this before.
It's been tried before but it tends to confuse new players, so never gets used in AAA games. You see it a lot in simulation games. Gaming monopolies are bad for games. Stuff like this is why.
@@RobinTheBot The thing with simulation games is, in their design the actual point of aim is usually a hidden value (and intuiting it is kinda weird, since you don't really have depth perception in games). So I'd say the baseline design intent is kinda different. I absolutely agree though - Monopolies kill creativity, and I'm very glad that this game came about and popped off like it did.
Man I’ve been seeing yt videos about Helldivers 2 and everyone’s gameplay looks so different and even more fun I just get swallowed by it even if it is 1 hour gameplay. Wish I could play it but gotta wait at least a few months to buy it hope it keeps this fun and with good support. Great vid!
Rumor is that Arrowhead devs are planning on releasing the third enemy faction from the first game, the Illuminate, down the road. There are clues if you watch the Super Earth government news reports being played in your capital ship.
Brings back memories of diving prone under sentry gun fire as they mow down the hordes pouring onto the objective. Nice to see the enjoyable gameplay mechanics and loop from the near 10 year old twin stick shooter brought into a three dimensional TPS.
Everyone talking about the massive scale battle. There’s a old game called planetside 2 who did this. Issue was it actually needed all those players. They’re having 1000 guns shooting in hell divers but most are NPCs. In planetside. If you want a 1k gun fight. You need 1k players. It was like seeing the planets align. It was crazy when it did happen. The night lit up with lasers and explosions. Good times. Games dead now unfortunately. Hell divers and planetside are actually pretty similar. Anyone who’s played planetside will understand what I mean. I’m glad hell divers succeeded in this kind of game. Those nights running with groups of 20 ppl in a 3 hours fire fight. Even when you got off. Fighting for a base. It would last a week in real life time. I’m definitely getting hell divers.
this game would hugely benefit on a system like that!! I have yet to try Hell divers. the issue was, Planetside was a F2P MMO pvp and it was GRINDY. You only got cool gear if it was an event or you had the membership. With sections and people particpating it would be pretty badass to encounter other squads to help them out with their objectives and overall fight against the common enemy. I should probably enlist soon!!

Played with some old friends last night, there were 5 separate instances where it looked straight out of a movie, and I had a moment where I was fighting alone against the Bots(think Commander Cody holding the bridge alone against the CIS in Clone Wars) and managed to throw a reinforcement beacon out right as I was killed. Everyone was cheering me on and it was such and intense moment!
The game actually does not end if everyone dies, you just respawn all at once. Still kinda bad, since you don't control where, and there's noone on the ground to cover you/draw fire until you orient yourself.
i remember playing the top down helldivers 1 when i was like 10 and had a blast playing it until i didnt have anyone to play with anymore. really great to see a childhood game become so popular
Two things that really make this game great in vastly different ways. First is the lore, everything is in-character. The closest thing you get to a 4th wall break is the loading screen tips making witty jokes about teamkilling. The informational videos that pop up in your ship are portrayed as training material for divers, even for something as simple as "Reloading a half-empty mag will waste the ammo". They make in-lore news broadcasts to post to their social media about in-game events, even when the servers are having issues and the devs compensate players with bonus experience the game calls it an "Accounting" mishap, never breaking character. The second thing, is the attention to detail in combat. Shooting bug's heads off will occasionally leave them blindly pushing the offensive before eventually collapsing, all explosions can knock you off your feet and send you flying into objects, which with sufficient speeds can and will damage or kill you from the impact. Damaged limbs will affect your character's performance ingame, and the same goes for the enemies, shooting off limbs will occasionally have bugs trip and fall over before getting back up and continuing the fight. Resupply pods can be destroyed but the ammo supplies will survive, and scatter across the landscape. PARTIAL RELOADS which isn't that huge but tons of games don't do it and it's really annoying. Where most games have a thin veneer of enjoyable content that is usually just a short-lived gimmick or a poorly replayable repetitive loop, this game has a steel reinforced foundation of an absolutely S tier game with infinite replayability.
I agree dude. I feel like this game is gonna be HOT for years. I'm obsessed. Also I feel like an odst and being a halo nerd since kindergarten it makes it even better
@@jamespahl3832 This is the “Halo” that 343 couldn’t poop out even if they had another couple billion and 20 more years of development. Not because they can’t but because they refuse to on an ideological level. Which makes it even worse and them more pathetic on multiple levels.
I love the news segment that plays aboard the ship about the automoton attack, shit like that really helps with the level of immersion and world building going on in this game. Now if i could just log on and actually play the game, and unlock armor sets before they get changed thatd be great.
I was worried that something would be lost in translation when turning Helldivers from a twin stick shooter to third-person, so it makes me really happy that Helldivers 2 is as good as it is.
If anything, it's like the game was always meant to be 3rd person and the isometric view was a design concession for the first one. Makes me wonder if you could even _do_ a 3rd person Magicka...
I was worried the game would pull a RoR2. No, this isn't me saying RoR2 is *bad* but I didn't like the 3D-translation, especially as much as Helldivers.
This is exactly what I was stressed about - the vibe of the first is simply unparalleled, and as much as I adore helldivers 2 you cannot compare them - they are so good in different ways. A good analogy is Resident Evil 4 (original) has a whole different vibe to the remake, but I would recommend both games for different reasons. Props to the Devs tho ! What a great game
Did RoR2 end up being that different than the original game? I only played RoR1 Remastered, where they already tweaked stuff to make it easier for people who started with RoR2 and it felt pretty similar @@332guyver1
As someone who played the original game a shitload I really was hesitant about it being converted to a third person shooter rather than a topdown twin stick shooter but goddamn, they nailed it.
It’s kinda niche but my favorite part of the game thus far has been how you can dive over or across things and STILL shoot while doing it. Got a bug hole below you you’re standing on the rim of? Leap off the ledge and fling a nade backwards and down into it. Want to quickly jump past a Automaton walker to shoot the pilot? Just dive and shoot!
Holy shit AGREED on the republic commando thing. A 4 player PVE co-op game fighting droid armies on land or in space squadron battles sounds not only amazing but also perfect for the setting! Customize your armor and weapons (arc troopers, jetpack troopers, etc) then get out there and make the republic proud, clones!
Huge congratulations to everyone involved. I was 1000 percent expecting this to be a “flop” if not do the bare minimum financially. But it was INSANE! A server killer!
It’s crazy to have huge games come out of almost nowhere and be big hits like this and Palworld, meanwhile the big flops are Suicide Squad and Skull and bones which have been anticipated for almost a decade.
Baldur's Gate 3, Palworld, Helldivers 2. All of these games that were underestimated before their launch and turned out to be MASSIVE successes shows just how unpredictable the gaming industry is. People just like fun games.
One thing that you can do btw, we accidently tested with a friend of mine, you can use the drop pods of reinforcements to kill large targets like Chargers and Tanks. But you can also destroy the fabrication sites and Bug holes. Just not recommended as you will likely get stuck in the ground XD. It is really funny though to have it accidently happen
I mean, Starship Troopers meets Terminator meets Warhammer 40k with excellent visual effects and sound design...just from watching the game I get why this is so popular!
Man, the soundtrack in this game is so damn good. Like the part in the first mission where you and the squad reached the evac point, the music kicked up in an epic cacophony of what I could only describe as the perfect blend of Star Wars and Starship Troopers combined. Truly a soundtrack worthy of it's hype lol.
The best thing about Helldivers for me is how cinematic the moment to moment fighting is. Followed by the quietness after you decimate all your enemies and you take a second to resupply.
What I love watching RUclips videos about HellDivers 2 is the mixture of almost all sci-fi games of run and gun. Starship Troopers, Star Wars, Destiny, and funny thing is, they have Terminator style enemies which is just another variety. Wish I could buy this game some day.
I must say... that was one hell of a great intro to the video! Tbh, I could probably listen to Drewski ramble on about videogames or other stuff for hours. Great video! Keep it up!
Finally got my paycheck in today, went to play the game, was super excited, and the servers were so full that I spent an hour in queue before my game crashed. Maybe one day I can do my part.
As someone who played a decent amount of helldivers 1. I'm so glad to see this game get so much attention. I was hyped for this game for a few months ago but I never expected it to blow up like this. The devs truly deserve it.
Its been too long since HD1, and any promo that came out did not show actual gameplay, no streamer invite, no beta. Not saying those were needed (i do hate that shit way back when OW1 streamers got to play till they were bored before its even out) but there was nothing for me to expect or hype about. Then boom. Thats the sound of servers exploding xD
Yup. same here. I was nervous seeing no reviews before the game came out. But still "pre-ordered" it the day before. Knowing that I will still by it anyway. Glad that it did not disappoint.
I've played one game that has previously taken this approch to co-op game play and that's Mass Effect 3 multi-player, I really loved playing it and was disapointed when thay didn't roll it out with the Legendery Edition.
Been having a (literal) blast with this game. I loved Helldivers 1 so I bought the special edition for the sick armor :) We've made it to diff 7, Suicide Mission and oh my god fighting the bots with just waves of killing machines everywhere is INTENSE.
The popularity of HD2 compared to the first game is absolutely insane. The game is amazing to play and one of the better games I've played in recent years. I'm also happy to see how many people are enjoying it, but 'suffering from success' is a term that applies after expecting nowhere near the amount of people that are attempting to log in. Fingers crossed over the next couple weeks they're able to expand and stabilize the servers and squash more bugs/issues, both those related to the overwhelmed servers and ingame problems that pop up now and then. Also gotta give credit to Arrowhead for updating the community via Discord up to multiple times a day about the current status of the games, server problems, fixes, etc as well as having been patching the game to improve or fix issues up to a couple times a day if needed. Shows the amount of struggle and effort they're putting forward to bring this game up to meet the popularity its garnered. See you on the frontlines fellow Super Citizens! 07
If I was Mr Disney I would be contacting these guys to make a star wars game. Clone wars era, mowing through waves of droids. ordering x wing gun runs, b wing bomb runs, orbital support from Venators. Going to the surface to blow up CIS droid factories
But muh toxic masculinity! And if you've seen the chatter on Twitter this has dug up around Starship Troopers, you'll know that the last thing the wokies want right now is us uniting behind "the only good bug is a dead bug." Because it's apparently fascist to want to survive and thrive in a world where parasitic organisms aren't flooding over your borders...
The dialogue is actually funny and calling in infinite airstrikes like it’s Afghanistan is just pure joy as your teammates walk into the firing zone a gun run.
I don't have a PS5 but was so hyped when I saw it on the Steam recommended page. All of my friends have it and we've been having a blast playing it over the last few days, visually it's stunning, guns are beefy and are satisfying to shoot and calling in an orbital or air strike makes you feel powerful! My only problem with it so far is the guns feel really spread out across the two progression paths we have right now and if you buy the Super Citizen edition the early armour is kinda redundant but they're my minor nitpicks I'm loving the game so much!
Your video was the reason I got this game. Just got level 20 and man I'm having so much fun out there. Brought in my brother, his buddy, my buddy and another friend. We're playing every evening until late and it's such a blast.
Im pretty sure the energy weapons bypass armored targets defences so they're actually quite good for that as well not as effective as anti tank weapons but not useless
"Why couldn't Halo?" I used to ask that a lot then just accept the fact that Halo is Garbo and deserves to be where it is now with how badly the developers have treated it.
Most cinematic experience, best ambience. Feels good, is fun and difficult and you get some movie moments. Its just perfect. Haven't had this much fun in a long time.
You asked a very good question on why star wars or halo couldn't do this :,( The attention to detail for the character animations and the environment is great, I think that's what makes this game so interesting to me.

You mention 380k and climbing, well, actually that's their server cap and why there's some matchmaking problems. The cap was 250k before, they upgraded to 380k and it filled up in like an hour.
Server cap is in fact 450,000. They have an extra 50,000 but the infeastructure was getting wobbly hence was reduced to 450k. But 600,000 were trying to play.
How can the gameplay be this cinematic? they can hide all the HUD, pretend it's a cutscene and I will believe it, that's it! playing it all day with the bois on the weekend!
I have two entirely different loadouts for bots vs bugs - flamethrowers are amazing versus bugs but of only limited utility against bots. Despite that, they still have some decent utility because of how flame damage causes some slowing effects. Vs bots, I usually prefer using the grenade launcher because you can pop light and medium bots with only a couple of grenades, making these great for destroying hordes. EMS Strike is probably one of the single most useful stratagems in the game because of the stun and slow effect, and the fact that it recharges quickly helps immensely too.
Remember divers, you still get rewards even if none of your team extracts/survives the mission as long as the main objective is complete. Objectives are mandatory, you returning home is optional. God speed soldiers
There's just straight up not enough Helldivers 2 content out there right now, so your videos are amazing to see. Looking forward to more Starship Troopers, Robot Nam, and epic friendly fire moments--For Super Earth, of course!
the sound design of this game is so underrated. a lot of game's feel like your in a movie but this is something else. probably the best and smoothest game release in the past 5 years as well
When fighting the bugs it absolutely feeds like starship troopers. When you're fighting the bots it feels like something out of a star wars show with a squad of mandolorians laying waste to hordes of empire mechs and drones. This game might actually be one of the few instances of a game managing to capture cinematic moments and balance them with with excellent gameplay mechanics. It's brilliant and beautiful.

@ikarus7369 actually it is, but that's a good thing
The aiming system in this game is one of the most novel and interesting ones I've seen.
It is insanely satisfying to just actually have a consistent point of reference for where your bullets will go at all times, and for the game to be designed around it. To the point where I kind of wonder why noone tried this before.
Like a crosshair? Or accurate laser attachments? I think other games do this, unless you meant something different…
Funnily enough ive seen this system in a roblox battle sim
Man I’ve been seeing yt videos about Helldivers 2 and everyone’s gameplay looks so different and even more fun I just get swallowed by it even if it is 1 hour gameplay.

@@eric6rock right I had to grind a lot lol. But I got pretty far. Started in 2014 and stopped playing like 2022. I just got hell divers and It’s so fun bro. They even got orbital strikes. hopefully, they made an Invasion type (like in Halo Reach) with 1k players, I would pay to play it anywhere
N before planetside it was Defiance
6:27 The dive, straight into laying down fire while prone is a fucking awesome mechanic.
You can actually fire while in the air as well, and start reloading a gun while diving. Very cool mechanic imo
You can also throw nades while diving, which means you can do things like leap over bug holes while flinging a nade down into it as you fall.
You can also summon exodia during the dive if you wish

Played with some old friends last night, there were 5 separate instances where it looked straight out of a movie, and I had a moment where I was fighting alone against the Bots(think Commander Cody holding the bridge alone against the CIS in Clone Wars) and managed to throw a reinforcement beacon out right as I was killed. Everyone was cheering me on and it was such and intense moment!
Been playing with old names from my friends list as well. What a game, brining so many people together right now.
That’s what it’s all about
The game actually does not end if everyone dies, you just respawn all at once. Still kinda bad, since you don't control where, and there's noone on the ground to cover you/draw fire until you orient yourself.
MUGGLE
i remember playing the top down helldivers 1 when i was like 10 and had a blast playing it until i didnt have anyone to play with anymore. really great to see a childhood game become so popular
"The pit of death" can be blown up with a grenade. It's not a bug nest but you can still blow it up
Two things that really make this game great in vastly different ways.
I know. This is full on dead space level combat for bug missions. A bit harder with bots, especially since the headshot is more effective
I agree dude. I feel like this game is gonna be HOT for years. I'm obsessed. Also I feel like an odst and being a halo nerd since kindergarten it makes it even better
@@jamespahl3832
This is the “Halo” that 343 couldn’t poop out even if they had another couple billion and 20 more years of development. Not because they can’t but because they refuse to on an ideological level. Which makes it even worse and them more pathetic on multiple levels.
I love the news segment that plays aboard the ship about the automoton attack, shit like that really helps with the level of immersion and world building going on in this game. Now if i could just log on and actually play the game, and unlock armor sets before they get changed thatd be great.
good for you and your 2k PC
I was worried that something would be lost in translation when turning Helldivers from a twin stick shooter to third-person, so it makes me really happy that Helldivers 2 is as good as it is.
If anything, it's like the game was always meant to be 3rd person and the isometric view was a design concession for the first one.
Makes me wonder if you could even _do_ a 3rd person Magicka...
It feels like the Devs pulled a Risk of Rain 2 here :D
I only played RoR1 Remastered, where they already tweaked stuff to make it easier for people who started with RoR2 and it felt pretty similar
@@332guyver1
As someone who played the original game a shitload I really was hesitant about it being converted to a third person shooter rather than a topdown twin stick shooter but goddamn, they nailed it.
Naaaah I always knew it would go crazy from HD1 once the perspective shifts
It’s kinda niche but my favorite part of the game thus far has been how you can dive over or across things and STILL shoot while doing it. Got a bug hole below you you’re standing on the rim of? Leap off the ledge and fling a nade backwards and down into it.
Want to quickly jump past a Automaton walker to shoot the pilot? Just dive and shoot!
Holy shit AGREED on the republic commando thing. A 4 player PVE co-op game fighting droid armies on land or in space squadron battles sounds not only amazing but also perfect for the setting! Like the part in the first mission where you and the squad reached the evac point, the music kicked up in an epic cacophony of what I could only describe as the perfect blend of Star Wars and Starship Troopers combined. Truly a soundtrack worthy of it's hype lol.
I love the new soundtrack, but I miss the old classic helldiver's one too. I hope they add it in somehow or in settings.
The best thing about Helldivers for me is how cinematic the moment to moment fighting is. Followed by the quietness after you decimate all your enemies and you take a second to resupply.

The popularity of HD2 compared to the first game is absolutely insane. The game is amazing to play and one of the better games I've played in recent years.

You mention 380k and climbing, well, actually that's their server cap and why there's some matchmaking problems. The cap was 250k before, they upgraded to 380k and it filled up in like an hour.
