i watched this as a little kid 30+ years ago and this scene remains in my memory after all this time...strange how some things become imprinted while so many others fade.
I couldn't have said it better myself. 100%!
I watched this movie when I was about 3 I think. I don't remember this part specifically. I remember her being on this dirty scary planet (which I gather is actually the Phantom Zone) with that guy, and another part where she was talking to a friend with a poster of Superman on the wall, and she tells her that Superman is her cousin.
I've always loved when Supergirl finds her strength and comes flying through the window. "You've had your fun Selena. The game is finished".
Sort of like when Superman in Superman 3 says "Alright Webster the game's over!"
Post the video
Of her flying thru the window
I showed this clip to my 6 1/2 year old great nephew. We were talking and drawing, and he drew a tornado. Somehow, it became a tornado portal, which made me think of Supergirl. He was mesmerized. It was like the tornado portal we were just imagining came to life!!!
This scene just never get old it’s just a classic ❤
I don't care what the haters say. I like this movie.
🤣
What haters?. This is my childhood movie, I watched it every day I still remember their words and scenes.
Haters? everyone that saw this movie back in the day loved it
I enjoy this movie very much. Helen at a young age aced her role. There are elements I wished the script digged deeper....The flying sequence of Supergirl out of the Phantom Zone there was a different version I liked (was on the original VHS) but overall I like this film especially when was released on DVD with the added scenes
Best scene in the movie. 👊
🙂
The Goldsmith anthem kicking in at the end is downright awesome . . .
It's the scene when she says "come with me" Zaltar replies "I am with you" before sacrificing himself for her that has got me all these years.
Many people don't realise that he tried to give her the nudge so to speak so she can get back & save earth from Selena. He was doomed from the start.
@Lee249 Something tells me that he wasn't trying to sacrifice himself to the tornado, it just sucked him in. Otherwise maybe Selena was in control of that tornado causing it to suck him in as she talked about from 1:40-1:48.
@@afriendofbean thank you but like they said was "old" no disrespect. I always thought that last second was to protect her like he always did.
@@Lee-zw5km If he really was going to sacrifice himself, it was to help her out since one of them had to stay behind to let the other up and out. Then when he said "I am with you" it probably meant when he's dead he will be with her in spirit.
@@afriendofbean well I guess that makes sense thank you mate.
@@Lee-zw5km Thank you. That explains once Supergirl was at the top, Zoltar himself wasn't trying to climb out because it was impossible to climb out without anyone's help which is why he unfortunately got sucked into the tornado. One way to show that he was with Supergirl was when his voice in spirit was heard when she was being crushed by the evil monster Selena created where Supergirl was saying "I can't, I can't" and Zoltar's voice was heard saying "you can" and she got out of the monsters grip.
Faye Dunaway....legendary
2:17 RIP Peter O'Toole.
@Daniel Williamson I agree, and it probably would have made Supergirl's parents happy that he was dead since he was banished to the Phantom Zone to probably die and I'm sure by the time Supergirl got back home to Argo City, she told her parents that Zoltar died which would have made them happy.
Peter O'Toole is not dead in real life here in 1993.
RIP to a real one
That's the biggest car wash I ever did see 😂
😂
I always read this scene as “climbing out of depression” Zaltar lets go. He was bored and depressed and looking for purpose in the beginning of the film… and in the end he let go. It wasn’t the storm that hit him, he let go. I love when supergirl climbs up, gets up and finds her strength anew. This hit different when I was sick myself.
Also: “the power of shadow” Selena conjures in the end… - metaphor for depression, right? :) -
the moment when supergirl is in its grip, about to give up and cries: “I can’t” - then hears Zaltar: “you CAN!” - also hits different when watching it with those eyes
Come on, Supergirl! You can’t quit! The Supergirl I know would never give up without a fight! You need to be that hero right now! The universe needs you, this planet needs you, everybody needs you, I need you.
Supergirl Never Quits!
For some reason, it all kind of reminds me of The Wizard of Oz. Selena looks like Glinda the Good Witch, except she's evil and a villain. And Bianca looks like a character from Dynasty.
@cupcakefairy87 That's right. When I was watching this movie with someone else and when he was watching Zoltar getting sucked into the tornado, that person said that it looks like "The Wizard Of Oz."
It would have been great if they made a second film and Zoltar is on it where Supergirl says "Zoltar you're alive, I thought you were dead" where he says that he wasn't hit that hard when he got sucked into the tornado and survived because of that.
Coming back to this scene I questioned the effectiveness of the Phantom Zones inescapable purpose. Then it hit me that okay unless your its designer you made a backdoor which is how that guy helped her but at a cost.
From 2:38-2:48, the look on Supergirl's face was like she was saying "oh well, time to move on, he's dead now and there's nothing I can do about it now."
She was focusing her anger and sadness on getting out. It was a look of, I need to get out or all of the sacrifices made for me would have been for nothing.
@@AB-zl4nh Yes, she probably knew that she was right next to the way out and felt she should get out and get her powers back right away before a tornado comes and sucks her in.
SUPERGIRL 40TH ANNIVERSARY!
effets speciaux magnifiques
40 years old and still a high quality movie.
Ok its pretty obvious Zaltar just intended to die and was depressed the whole film. Was there ever an explanation why? or was it just Toole improvising the character? lol
This was hilarious hi-camp - going splendidly with the old Batman series.
This movie got more reviews in this comment section than the number of people who went to the theater and bought the VHS Tape🤣😂🤣😂
A real super heroine movie
Never understood why Zoltar topped himself..
I didn't quite understand how Zoltar got sucked into that tornado at 2:15 when it swirled next to him because a tornado swirled next to him and Supergirl from 1:50-1:52 and from 1:59-2:01 but they didn't get sucked inside but it only happened to Zoltar at 2:15. Was Selena in control of that tornado which is why it sucked him in at 2:15?
2:22
this is funnier than emotional
tres belle scene
C'est vrai
Scène monumentale
Why did Zaltar give up? He was so close and always wanted to see Earth. I think he was clinically depressed.
@soleil44 Yes, he was depressed because he was banished to the Phantom Zone and if he succeeded in escaping and went back to Earth with Supergirl, he would have been banished again back to the Phantom Zone to probably die and felt he had no choice but to accept his fate to die feeling each time he escapes, he would get re-banished again and decided to stay behind letting her escape and when he said to her "I am with you" before the tornado sucked him was his way of saying "I will always be with you in spirit" which was true because when Supergirl was fighting that monster Selena was in control of, she (Supergirl) was being unsuccessful saying "I can't, I can't" with Zoltar saying in voiceover in spirit, "you can, onward."
So if it was this easy to get out of the Phantom Zone...why did Zod and the others need a Nuke?
Never apply logic to Disney movies, RPGs OR Superhero movies.
In Superman II, Zod and the others looked as if they were still traveling to the Phantom Zone. It must take many years to reach the Phantom Zone.
Obviously, this version of the Phantom Zone does not align with the Richard Donner take. Sure, they used the 2D glass, but went in an entirely different direction with the story. Donner ' s is more similar to the comic, where the villains are literally turned into phantoms that can watch the universe go on, but cannot interact with it in any way. Superman and Superman II did this, but had them trapped behind a glass window to forever view the universe but not be able to be a part of it.
Zaltar wasn't helping them, that's why. Also none of that trio struck me as canny or smart enough to elude that spinning thing whilst climbing minus superpowers. They probably figured best to wait it out for aeons instead.
I wouldn't call it easy....
Supergirl was the cousin of Superman
faye dunaway: queen of mannerism camp
She makes the whole movie.
2:13 Run you fools!
If you’re referring to lord of the rings it’s “fly you fools” I know it got me for years !!
@@F00kbluepill Yes.
When someone loses hope, maybe it's better they should fall with the demon storm.
That was heartbreaking when Zaltar falls into that abyss.

"Uuuuum."

Alcohol is a demon, don't get trapped.
Selena est stupéfiante
Yep. She's amazing
What's down there?

He got kicked from heaven now he is going to hell
@Mrtacoman If you say he was kicked from heaven, then that means that Argo City (where Supergirl lives) is heaven and he was only kicked out of there because of not being careful with the Omegaheddron. Hell would be him being banished to the Phantom Zone where he told Supergirl that he will stay there forever but was refusing to try to get out because it looks too dangerous to get past those tornadoes.
I will say this, as far as like the strangeness in the movie and the Mystikal phantom zone and that vortex alone is better than superman. That's why that horse and tree knocked him off the horse while saying make a better movie stupid to Christopher Reeves!!
Imagine Selena finding a wire hanger hidden in one of those tomes
Titanic vibes
Fashions Designer information I am not your super woman I am not the kind of girl that you can let down and think that every thing is O.K boy I am only human being lady so..@#.
Supergirl: You Had Your Fun Selena, The Game Is Finished!
Why is she red hair so badly like this?
Why is your English grammar do bad?....Sorry, I meant BADLY!
Her hair isn't red, it looks red because everything is red in this scene due to the vortex.
Selena Killed Zaltar!
So there is a way to escape the Phantom Zone? This movie is so bad haha
Boy this movie really sucks
