      The Trogly's Guitar Show I have a question so I have a 1992 Gibson les Paul standard USA made, why is it that a like new 1992 with case is worth 1,900$? the only thing I could think of was that it was a good year for Gibson because, this guitar sounds amazing.

      $1,999 for a guitar that was gonna be $199 as a guitar package.... oh wait... It's for collector's... Yeah. $2000 plus shipping seems rite. Is there a market for people who pay in the thousands and collect "cheap guitar packages that where never to have been?" I really didn't know there was a market for that. I can see limited run series of guitars themselves. But man, I better go grab that epiphone les paul special II Slash edition guitar package before Gibson stops making them..........

    • @Speedojesus
      @Speedojesus 5 лет назад

      @@AkeoT9 I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding it though. The package and guitar were never actually released, and for the "woo-woo" part, you're getting one of the few of them made and an effort to create another part of Jimi's legacy. An Epiphone LP Special 2 package has no value because there's been enough of them to make them worthless to a collector, while there's a handful of these guitars at most.
      And there's a market for "bad" and unloved guitars. 70's and early 80's copies are popular as hell despite usually costing as much as a MIM Fender new, and being about the level of the mid-priced Squires and Epiphones. S

I don't miss them and have no problem buying and enjoying Asain guitars that stay in tune for longer than a song. Also, if you're paying minimum $1k, you shouldn't have to need to change crappy hardware. No excuse for crappy parts on Gibsons and no excuse for not "innovating" the headstock issue. This is crazy, I remember reading a story early on about this collaboration between the Hendrix estate and Gibson and at the time it was VERY confusing because I think they were afraid to say it would be a Strat copy. They kept describing the design vaguely in terminology like “in the style of the guitar Hendrix made famous” or “like His famous guitar...”
    I assumed it would be a cheap version of a more traditional Gibson design that Hendrix had at sometime played in his career as he was obviously most associated with Fender Strats.
    Then the story just kinda disappeared and I forgot about it until now. That’s awesome that you told the whole story here.

When I was a kid and decided to switch from piano to guitar (thanks to first discovering Hendrix!) he gave me that one. Of course i loved it because it's what Jimi played but as I got older I realized what a great axe it really was. He had a good sense about picking out guitars because those initial "Vintage Reissue" series are now actually vintage and collectible in their own right. And it does stand up to the real deal because he had quite a few real vintage strats too, including a '59, 60 and a 62 and it plays, feels and sounds at least as good as the real ones! Back in the 1960s, Strats with maple fretboards were made with a separate board onto the maple neck, with no skunk stripe in the back. This was how they did the rosewood boards at the time, too, so it was easier to manufacture all the necks the same way.
    Of course, I suspect the motivation on THIS guitar was just to have it be done cheaper, rather than striving for historical authenticity.

    hey man! this was a really cool video. would love to see if the parts of these guitars still exist. The slight offset of the strat body is very nice.

    Somewhere there's a container with 5,000 of these guitars, in their cardboard box with the amp, ect... In 25 years it will be auctioned off on a reality show. Gibson Hendrix guitars will suddenly saturate the market.

    And satin finishes on the necks are quite common on Strats, actually. They are easier to play, superior to the sticky lacquer (or poly) finishes that more expensive, inferior Strats have.

    Corrections: Fender usually makes a two piece maple neck these days, not one.
    And no, on most Chinese guitars, you certainly do NOT need to change the nut. You obviously have very little experience with them.

    Gotta love the irony of Gibso putting out a Strat copy after suing other guitar manufactures for the slightest similarities to Les Pauls/SGs/Flying Vs/Explorers, etc.

      ....actually I was thinking of the U-2, not the WRC. The WRC had a bolt-on neck. The U2 was going for the Jackson Soloist-type vibe.

    It's an Epiphone Strat, they're capable of that task. I get what they were doing. They had a licensing deal with Jimi's family and respectfully recognized that his trademark guitar was a Strat, They had to give it a try so they could sell a Jimi style guitar. I'm not mad that they tried, and I'm not mad that they pulled it at the 11th hour.

    I'm wondering if that middle position is the bridge and neck together. I read somewhere that Jimi's strat was wired like a Tele, with the middle pickup wired directly to a separate volume pot, so you can mix the middle pickup signal into the Tele circuit signal, and that's how you get the 2 and 4 selector positions

    It’s really ironic that Gibson got the rights for Hendrix given that Hendrix was by all means a fender Strat player. But I like the look of it. That is the on with the fire bird head stock. It’s a nice psychedelic version of a strat.

    • @FloridaManMatty
      @FloridaManMatty 5 лет назад +1

      John Henfrey Leon had a loooong history of drug abuse and wasn’t able to mange himself, let alone something as huge as the Hendrix estate. Al, Jimi’s father, knew better than to turn over control of tens (hundreds?) of millions of dollars to a junkie.
      Leon has subsequently turned himself around and is no longer strung out. Unfortunately Janie is the Devil and won’t do the right thing and bring him into the mix. She has destroyed Jimis legacy.

    I want one. I'v been saying the bridge pickup should be slanted the other way in relation to the bridge. and the reverse head stock is better for stretching the small strings with less slack behind the nutt. It just makes sense.

    i sometimes hates guitarists, many of them are stuck in the past and isnt even born that time to experiencing it and everything post hendrix/stevie is soulless copycats and everything that isnt in a shape of a fender/gibson classic is weird to them. I called them pretentious at best

    It sold originally for about $500 and you are asking $2,000 for it? This is the only one in existence and it sold for $500 and you are asking $2,000 for it? Austin, I know you are just going by the supposed value of this guitar but if it were me I would slap a $10,000 price tag on this puppy and see how much you can get!! Some Hendrix fan would gladly pay over $2,000 for this VERY rare guitar!!
    I like this one! Iam not a Strat guy but this one catches my eye, I love extra long arm comfort cut and that head stock is awesome!! It sounds typical Strat to me, quack quack quack lol, but usually with some adjustments to the pickup heights you can get some of that out. This is a very cool guitar! I will be honest with ya, when I first read the title for this video I was not that interested but I thought what the heck, Austin will learn me something new again lol. I couldn't stop watching it because I was so interested in the guitar!
    Great video, thanks for more edumacation (lol old redneck term) and man I would certainly jack that price up dude! c'mon you got a REAL rare one here, cash in on it!!

    Interesting guitar. I understand why Gibson pulled the plug on it. Hendrix played a Fender Stratocaster. I like the volute on the neck. I think it's a little awkward to launch an official Hendrix line of guitars seeing how he died a long time ago and everyone knows he played a real authentic Stratocaster. Also, how many beginner kids even know who Mr. Hendrix was?

    This is exactly like if Adidas decided to make a Kobe tribute sneaker and made it look exactly like the Nike Zoom 4 even though they already had Kobe branded shoes of their own to use as a basis. Gibson could have made their Hendrix tribute be an SG or Flying V, because he had a history of playing them. WTF were they thinking

    Great guitar - should have been released - also at higher end. The reversed headstock seems logical and reverse skewed bridge pickup would respond to different harmonics.
