Hey Dan, great video. A video of Jimi's more obscure guitars would be very informative. The old Ibanez, the Duo-Sonics, Jazzmasters, 1955 Les Paul Custom, mid 50s Les Paul Special, the Bartell, Bigsby and Ice Mettalic Blue Strat, the Hawaii '69 Strat, the 3rd Flying V and the Sunburst Strat seen unused in Berlin 9/4/70 and the 10/8/67 thru 1/4/68 modded Strat would be eye openers to a lot of fans. Great job! Jimi played "Black Beauty" the whole night I saw him in Miami 1970.
The family should loan the black strat to the museum that has his white. It would still be owned by them, but it would also be able to be enjoyed by the world. It would also likely be the safest in that museum since they know how best to store and protect historical artifacts.
Actually agree on that one. People should be able to see the guitar somewhere safe in a museum, kind of weird to just lock it up in a vault. But many people do this, even Kurt Cobain's guitar are locked up in an underground vault somewhere...
The black one isn’t owned by his family. It’s in the estate of Jim is girlfriend, Monika Danneman. It’s said to be in a vault to keep it safe along with Monika’s paintings. Uli Roth of scorpions fame was married to Monika and has confirmed this. He said Paul Allen offered 1m for it and was turned down. He also said some Arabs offered 7,8,9 m for it and were turned down.
alot of photos published , it appears to be a black 🖤 stratocaster with Rosewood 🌹 9:25 but it is just as well if it's sunburst - thank you for the video here you posted on Our Mighty Jimi Hendrix
Yes, around March 1967 he started playing a few sunburst Stratocasters. One of them ended up being burned at the Astoria, but some survived and were used in the summer of '67.
@@groundguitar was burned at the Star Club not the Astoria. I believe his his 2nd sunburst was later given to his Bro Leon when he got the new white strat with maple neck. Leon was hoping for the new white one but got the sunburst.
I always wondered what happened to the remains of his burnt Monterey strat other than the chunk that’s at the museum. And his other early 60’s strats from when he was still in London prior to Monterey. Some odd strats can be seen in old London pics leaning against amps one particular the white tort guard strat and another early 60’s strat that was black just like his black Monterey strat but an earlier model 60-63. Nobody ever talks about them mystery “background” strats.
I was going from what Uli himself said in this interview - ruclips.net/video/ARta21ShSeA/видео.html That's where the quote is from. He said it belongs to Monika's estate, and that it's in a vault somewhere.
@@groundguitar Uli is probably one of the most forthright and honest of people around .....the guy is honest to a fault. He has had the privelage of having access to the black strat since first meeting Monika (1976) all the way up to her earthly departure (1996) and was surely overwhelmed like any of us would be having that guitar in our hands. Like in this video, you can plainly see him photographed with it. The strings are still reversed ( like all pics of it that are available). It is probably one ( if not the only) Hendrix guitar to STILL have the strings that he actually played. Uli would never take something like that guitar from the family of Monika, I'm sure he has spoken the truth as to it's whereabouts.
I find it interesting the Monterey stratocaster isn't one of the 5. Yes, it isn't one of the guitars he used much (I think only for a few shows including Monterey) but certainly it IS iconic... the white strat is called Izabella btw
It's sickening seeing that black Stratocaster in the possession of one of Jimi's murderers. It should have went straight to his dad as soon as he died. How that woman thought she had a right to that guitar is beyond me.
"Red House" was included on the Polydor/Track Are You Experienced album. Not the same take as the version on the US Reprise Smash Hits, but probably from the same recording session. Anyway, back then it was written that Jimi used a Hofner with the pickups taped on to hold them there. It's always sounded like a Strat to me, and I believe the Hofner claim has been debunked.
I don't know if Red House was recorded with a ''54 Les Paul but he certainly used it in live shows. I saw Hendrix at the Moody Coliseom in Dallas with one. Back in "68.I felt All the frenetic action on stage was over getting the Strat off Jimi and sure enough, the '54 Black Beauty on him. He only used it for that one tune and then it was back in the back. Story went that he didn't consider himself a blues player And Red House was the only strictly original blues song He'd ever written. And his ' 54 LP was perfect for this tune. Don't know if he used it recording as well but he probably did, seeing as to all the trouble he had using it as a backup on stage.
@@lowgpu1687 I think the best is appropriate because of the music he produced, other players may well be more technically advanced but they don’t produce anything more creative than fast picking and major minor sweeping arpeggios, so yes he is the best
One thing I don't understand is why didn't Fender make Hendrix a custom left handed model Strat? I haven't seen any pics of Hendrix playing any left hand models. Did he prefer the knobs and switches above rather than below? Did he not mind having all his guitars switched from right to left hand compatible?
It’s not like it is today, signature models weren’t a thing, and it was just easier for him to find a right handed model and flip it then to custom order something that would take months to get. Don’t forget he was in England for a chunk of his career where American guitars were hard to come by. Clapton bought him a leftie but unfortunately jimi died before receiving it. You have to remember he was only in the spotlight for a couple years
A few years ago, one of Hendrix's guitars (a white strat) came up for sale on the History Channel program Pawn Stars. I wonder how it fits in this pantheon?
@groundguitar Larry Brooks from the Fender custom shop let me play the original SRV prototype that he built and SRV played on the Tonight show with Johnny Carson and at the Hard Rock Cafe in Porta Virarta they took the yellow Strat off the wall that SRV had on the cover of Guitar World posing with Jeff Beck and they let me play that as well!
He Is the reason I tried converting a Harley Benton ST62cc. So far Its a succes, gotoh locking tuners and springs. I did der er et yndigt land inspired by his woodstock 1969 star spangled banner rendition. The heavy use of vibrato didnt do that much to tuning, but It kept stable for a few heavy divers...
Nice video. A couple of minor points. I think you meant Cigarette burns on the Strat's headstock (Jimi didn't smoke cigars) and the black Strat is essentially stolen. Monika took it after Jimi died. It does not belong to her. I'm surprised the estate hasn't sued for it's return.
He died she didn't steal it ; Honestly the fact that she didn't sell it or lose it to anyone for 30 years is more Impressive usually people's possessions aren't cared for after death especially of that caliber a real rare treasure item;
@@stlrockn Ya it does it becomes her possession to take care of; Jimis family went to various lengths to honour and care for his legacy including non profit orgs creating tribute concerts and benefits and creating a park in Seattle in his name; there's zero doubt in my mind they weren't aware of that guitar and its location if they were concerned for its status they could of sued her and forced it's return; the guy the other musician she was dating in the 90s also understood the task as well to not only not play or sell that guitar but to generally leave it alone; if one of us dies our stuff peoples things generally get distributed and given away or stored and lost everyone's fate is different i appreciate her caring for that for so long%/
The reason Monika kept it is because she begged for it when Hendrix managers Gerry Stickells and Eric Barrett came for it the morning Jimi died...They represented the legal Hendrix management at the time and when they gave it to her they gave her legal ownership by consent...The only way it could be taken from her estate is by a legal claim that she was complicit in Jimi's murder and was prone to laws that forbid profiting off of crimes...
You can't tell by the necks if the Linda guitar is the same one, necks break, frets wear out, all kinds of things happen to them, you have to examine the body of the guitar to really know
Dannemann lied and lied about the night Jimi died and was not even at the hotel when the ambulance arrived. Kathy Etchingham sued her and won, after which Monika committed suicide. She never told the truth about that night. For her or her family to steal Black Beauty is one of the greatest injustices in rock history. Also I never knew "cigars" had filters. 😂😂
2:40am Back in those days, Hendrix used commercially available guitars that anyone could buy, in much the same way that Elvis used to buy Cadillacs then have them custom painted.
A couple of his lesser known Strats were a candy apple red/ maple fretboard played around 67, and the Making of Electric Ladyland video shows one pic of Jimi holding a green burst Strat next to Chas Chandler and some WEM speakers to his left! The green burst picture is really a strange sight.
Mosrite is in the same museum as the Woodstock Strat - see www.groundguitar.com/jimi-hendrix-gear/jimi-hendrixs-mosrite-doubleneck/ Do you have a photo of the green burst?
What about the Tele he used for recording some of his songs after he broke his strat by hitting it into a short ceiling? At least that's what Roger Mayer said. Also Jimi had played Jazzmasters a lot while he was coming up playing for Little Richard & others. I also remember hearing that when he played Red House that he loved to use his Les Paul or 1 of his Les Paul's. Roger Mayer has stated that Jimi used to go thru guitars like crazy & that he Roger was the 1 working on all of Jimi's guitars. He stated that he would wire all of his guitars a certain way. I can't remember what all he stated that he would regularly rewire all of Jimi's guitars. Since he was doing all of Jimi's effects, it would make since that he would do things to help the guitar work better with the effects.
i heard not to long ago the story that Noel sourced the Tele (I cant remember where from) but was definitely Noel that got that guitar for Jimi to use as they were recording in the studio & he needed a guitar. On another note there is a picture of that strat stuck in the ceiling of that club on the night.
I was at the 1968 concert at Municipal Auditorium which is in Kansas City, Missouri - not Kansas City,Kansas. It was a basketball arena so the performance was great but the sound was boomy, which was disappointing.
@@groundguitar Don't know TBH but seem to remember it being light blue. If I'm in there anytime I'll have a look. I imagine Noel might have given it as he lived nearby and was in there a lot.
He played a black strat at the Isle Of Wight concert. My brother Peter Max Baranet, of Max Guitars, has owned this guitar for many years. The guitar was also owned by Mike Bloomfield ., before He gave it to Hendrix? The guitar has 6 holes drilled at the top of the neck where it had been converted to a 12-string at one time. Buddy Miles met with my brother and confirmed to my brother that yes, this was the same guitar. After he died my sister a Scientologist stole it from his estate.
Its sad that Jimi worked so hard to become famous etc but died at only 27 years of age and its a tragedy for his dad too who must have worked damn hard to afford the 2 electric guitars he got Young Jimi as back in the 1950s Electric guitars were very expensive probably a whole months wage back then.
Please, could it be possible to make a video like this one but about Freddie King's guitars? I don't know anything about the gear of that blues artist... And there's not much info that I could have found...
@@groundguitar As a guitar player myself I am just saying he is holding the guitar in a very natural way. A lefty playing right or a righty playing left seem to always look awkward when they are not holding the instrument the way they normally hold it.
That's a common myth, but not the case. Monterey Strat was the custom-painted (originally red) guitar that was broken in pieces after the gig. Zappa could possibly have the Astoria Strat though - a video on that coming soon.
Nobody has the Strat that was burned at Monterey. It is Gone, Gone, Gone. Dweezil has/had the "real" Astoria Strat that was given to Frank in 1968. A fake Astoria Strat that was auctioned off in 2008 has NO credible provenance.
@@lext4374 God! Didn't mean to start a chain letter rant! Guitar World had an anthology issue dedicated to Frank Zappa! There was an ad that boasted Dweezil as the owner! Wow - I thought I knew a fair bit about Jimi's guitars, (in a low-key way, not as a superfan), but this video casually blows all the others on YT out the water! I'm a Hendrix fan from while he was still alive (can remember the day school-mates told me he had died like it was yesterday), so I thought I'd seen most photos of him (not through research, just because I was around at the time, reading the music press, and watching his shows on TV here in the UK). But I didn't know half of what you show here, with photos to back it up. Excellent work!
I appreciate that very much! All the info was slowly accumulated over the years on the website, which has been online since 2013 - so it took a while, and I'm glad it shows.
Cool video. I've always noticed that Jimi never played a sunburst Fender Strat with a maple fretboard. Can't wait to see the Zappa owned "burned at Miami" (not Monterey) Strat video.
There was/is no "burned at Miami" Strat. Jimi is known to have burned two Strats, one at Astoria, and the other at Monterey. Zappa received the guitar in Miami, and that's where the "burned in Miami" stuff came from.
He played a 66 and then a 67 white strat till the end of 68 ( you can see it at Miami pop festival ) it was then stolen and he began to play a 68 maple cap strat named Izabella and then the black one wich is his last guitar .
Yeah, the white '67 Strat seen at Miami Pop seems to be his last "main" guitar before he started using the white and the black maple fretboard Strats. I believe Electric Ladyland could've been recorded on it, based on the dates - see www.groundguitar.com/jimi-hendrix-gear/jimi-hendrix-1967-fender-stratocaster-white/
Jimi's Woodstock guitar and the white strat he used on his 70s tours were two different guitars. Example: That pic of his last show at Isle of Fehram with the white strat is NOT the Woodstock guitar
Thanks for the hard work putting all this stuff together. This is the first time I’ve seen this channel. I must say, however, that I found the background music somewhat jarring, and mostly a distraction. JJZ…(°¿.°`)
Alright, I'll try to make the music less distracting in the next video - perhaps I'll just lower the volume and see if it's any better. Honestly, it's just hard to find good music to use in the background, especially one that fits the theme, but I'll try to do better. Cheers!
So when the Flying V was repainted to match how Jimi had painted it, it wasn’t restored to its original condition Because that paint job wasn’t the original condition
I know exactly what happened to the black strat and a white strat as well. Michael Jeffries gave those guitars to a friend who was a crazy dude from New York City. He had them for a short time and got ripped off getting out of a taxi cab, losing both guitars. Michael Jeffries gave him the guitarist because Teddy was a crazy good guitar player very weird, very, very good. Jeffrey was going to make him the next Jimmy Hendrix I guess.
As far as I know, it was only used once - at the Newport Festival in 69. No idea what happened to it though, but some info on it we have here - www.groundguitar.com/jimi-hendrix-gear/jimi-hendrixs-1960s-fender-stratocaster-telecaster-neck-newport/
Thought about mentioning that guitar, but didn't want it to be all Stratocasters. As far as the story, he got it around March 1967, played it for a while with the original fiesta red paint, and then painted it himself just before the Monterey Festival in June. The guitar ended up being completely broken after the concert, and some of the pieces can today be seen in various museums - see www.groundguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/12261365195_152f544c28_o-768x1024.webp
A lot of people continue to state”That guitar deserves to be played!”But in my opinion when it comes to a really special guitar.(Like Hendrix’s)It best to take care of it and let be preserved as he had it….I saw that Kirk hammet now has Peter greens famous lespaul and now any remaining Peter green anything is gonna be hidden under a barrage of modern Metallica wear 🤨
Saw a show recently (Pawn Stars). A guy walked in with (ALLEGEDLY) the white guitar that Jimi Hendrix used at Woodstock. Rick the Prick called in his expert and the expert looked at it and checked it over and said it was the original that Jimi used. The guy selling was asking for $750,000 US. Rick the Prick, as always lowballed him. I do believe the final offer was $650,000. The guy that had the guitar just said "NO" and walked out. The episode may be on RUclips
Yeah I saw that too, and I think that guitar was actually auctioned off several times after that, and I think it eventually sold. Kind of a weird one, but probably legit, as I remember Seymour Duncan saying he remembers working on it for Jimi. It's definitely not a Woodstock Strat though.
The strat u speak of is the Juggys studio strat which Jimi used ocassionally when he was at that studio. The Studio owner also let him borrow it occasionally it was only played by Jimi never owned by him. Last i heard cowtown guitars that actually appraised it on the show were the ones that bought it for about $250K
Goddamn thieves! This has happened to many a famous player, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, and many more, including the not so famous, who walked back on stage at the bar they were playing at only to find an empty guitar stand. These are the guys that it really hurts because it's much more difficult for them to replace. A nice guitar costs a lot of money!
Jimi smoked cigars? (Did you mean cigarettes? ) I thought "are you experienced" was recorded at Olympia with Eddie Kramer... Also - It appears that there were 2 Flying V's then- one righty and one lefty. I saw the refinished one at the Play it Loud exhibit in NYC. Question - before he passed, Jimi was supposed to have met up with Eric Clapton at a Sly and the Family Stone concert, but they did not connect. Eric had a LEFTY Strat to give him, but it did not happen that evening. Jimi passed away very shortly thereafter and Eric did not have a chance to give it to Jimi. I always wondered if anyone ever asked Eric what he did with that Strat? No comment on the Monterey Strats? I mean that is when he blew up in the U.S. with the experience! If it were ever possible, I would want the black strat he played at Monterey. Lastly - the Black Strat has become so iconic because of Eric and Jimi. Much like the brown burst strat is due to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Eric ("Brownie") when he was with the Dominoes. Peace and love to all!
Yes, cigarettes, my bad. "Are You Experienced" was recorded across multiple locations as far as I know. This website has a pretty accurate timeline of what was recorded where - hendrix.guide.pagesperso-orange.fr/timeline.htm Decided to skip Monterey Strat as it would be just Stratocaster across the board. Yes, two Flying Vs, the other one was left-handed and custom-made for Jimi. Btw, there is even a third Flying V finished in tobacco sunburst which he used briefly in 1969. Agree, and I'd say David Gilmour should be mentioned too. Cheers.
First off when he past away all his guitars and gear should have gone to his father since he wasn't married or left a will..period no one had the legal or moral rights to take his guitars

Uli Roth of scorpions fame was married to Monika and has confirmed this. He said Paul Allen offered 1m for it and was turned down. He also said some Arabs offered 7,8,9 m for it and were turned down.
I wish I had could been to Manny's because many Rock N Roll artists shopped and visited there. We miss and salute you NYC Music Row 😢 (1935 - 2015).

but it is just as well if it's sunburst -
thank you for the video here you posted on
Our Mighty Jimi Hendrix
When I saw Jimi at the Fillmore in June, 1967, he was playing a sunburst Stratocaster.
The Black Strat was owned by Monika Danneman and she gave it to Uli Jon Roth
Yes Uli has it apparently. Monika and Uli were an item.
It was never hers to own…
She kept it after Jimi was murdered in her hotel room. That's how she "owned" it.
Nice to find out what happened to that Tele necked Strat Jimi played one off at Devonshire Downs
Very well done.... thank you for this.
I find it interesting the Monterey stratocaster isn't one of the 5. Yes, it isn't one of the guitars he used much (I think only for a few shows including Monterey) but certainly it IS iconic... the white strat is called Izabella btw
Awesome video….thanks for sharing
It's sickening seeing that black Stratocaster in the possession of one of Jimi's murderers. It should have went straight to his dad as soon as he died. How that woman thought she had a right to that guitar is beyond me.
What?
I read that the tune, ‘Red House’ was recorded by JH using a ‘ 54’ Les Paul Black Beauty .
There are lots of pics of live shows with the black beauty Les Paul
"Red House" was included on the Polydor/Track Are You Experienced album. Not the same take as the version on the US Reprise Smash Hits, but probably from the same recording session. Anyway, back then it was written that Jimi used a Hofner with the pickups taped on to hold them there. It's always sounded like a Strat to me, and I believe the Hofner claim has been debunked.
The recording was a strat, i saw a video where it was proven. When he played the song live he played a les paul but the recording was a strat
WOW !! Great Job Here..
The black strat used at those TTG studios sessions is a different black strat. Note the string tree position on it compared to all other photos.
Awesome video! So unfortunate about the house fire, but the missing/stolen one's must be found someday right?
Hendrix was the best guitarist in the world and his songs are unforgettable.
It's hard to say "the best" because that becomes an opinion, but there is no doubt, and it's a fact that he is ONE OF THE BEST
@@lowgpu1687 I think the best is appropriate because of the music he produced, other players may well be more technically advanced but they don’t produce anything more creative than fast picking and major minor sweeping arpeggios, so yes he is the best
@@lowgpu1687 debunked..
You have to remember he was only in the spotlight for a couple years
This video is the missing link ! The Black Strat he played at Filmmore East is the one for me ! Big Thanks from Quebec !

A few years ago, one of Hendrix's guitars (a white strat) came up for sale on the History Channel program Pawn Stars. I wonder how it fits in this pantheon?

Thank you Jeff!
@@groundguitar I have personally played 2 of SRV's guitars, but I've never even SEEN one of Jimi's!
@@jeffrowlette Which ones?
@groundguitar Larry Brooks from the Fender custom shop let me play the original SRV prototype that he built and SRV played on the Tonight show with Johnny Carson and at the Hard Rock Cafe in Porta Virarta they took the yellow Strat off the wall that SRV had on the cover of Guitar World posing with Jeff Beck and they let me play that as well!

So far Its a succes, gotoh locking tuners and springs.
I did der er et yndigt land inspired by his woodstock 1969 star spangled banner rendition.
The heavy use of vibrato didnt do that much to tuning, but It kept stable for a few heavy divers...
He also had a fender strat sunburst like a 63 that he picked up and only used it in studio recordings I watched on a documentary
Awesome interesting channel 👍
Nice video. A couple of minor points. I think you meant Cigarette burns on the Strat's headstock (Jimi didn't smoke cigars) and the black Strat is essentially stolen. Monika took it after Jimi died. It does not belong to her. I'm surprised the estate hasn't sued for it's return.
He died she didn't steal it ; Honestly the fact that she didn't sell it or lose it to anyone for 30 years is more Impressive usually people's possessions aren't cared for after death especially of that caliber a real rare treasure item;
@@subhashxrecord3131 Just because he died doesn't make it hers. It should be in the possession of the estate. She didn't give it back. She knew....
@@stlrockn Ya it does it becomes her possession to take care of; Jimis family went to various lengths to honour and care for his legacy including non profit orgs creating tribute concerts and benefits and creating a park in Seattle in his name; there's zero doubt in my mind they weren't aware of that guitar and its location if they were concerned for its status they could of sued her and forced it's return; the guy the other musician she was dating in the 90s also understood the task as well to not only not play or sell that guitar but to generally leave it alone; if one of us dies our stuff peoples things generally get distributed and given away or stored and lost everyone's fate is different i appreciate her caring for that for so long%/
Ya Uli Roth from Scorpions; Good on dude not messing with that Strat//
The reason Monika kept it is because she begged for it when Hendrix managers Gerry Stickells and Eric Barrett came for it the morning Jimi died...They represented the legal Hendrix management at the time and when they gave it to her they gave her legal ownership by consent...The only way it could be taken from her estate is by a legal claim that she was complicit in Jimi's murder and was prone to laws that forbid profiting off of crimes...
Steven seagal has a few, that's all i know, and hard rock, or Jimi Hendrix museum
New sub. Very well done! Right on! ✌🏻
2:40am Back in those days, Hendrix used commercially available guitars that anyone could buy, in much the same way that Elvis used to buy Cadillacs then have them custom painted.
after Jimi got rid of the first V he switched to a black les Paul custom for a brief bit, played for red house live
And, his Mosrite Joe Maphis double neck he recorded Spanish Castle Magic with
Where is that cream colored Mosrite Joe Maphis double neck now? It was featured in a guitar magazine I have from the late 90’s.
Mosrite is in the same museum as the Woodstock Strat - see www.groundguitar.com/jimi-hendrix-gear/jimi-hendrixs-mosrite-doubleneck/
Do you have a photo of the green burst?
candy apple red strat became the saville theatre strat.
No, but I could probably take a screen shot if I play the dvd
I think the Black Strat is still strung upside down and in the same tune, untouched
On Red House, Jimi played a SG Gibson.
Wait a minute the white strat was featured on Pawn Stars . It was certified to be Jimi`s . So what up with what You say.
Jimi had several white Strats maple and rosewood necks
I was at the 1968 concert at Municipal Auditorium which is in Kansas City, Missouri - not Kansas City,Kansas. It was a basketball arena so the performance was great but the sound was boomy, which was disappointing.
One of his strats is in De Barras bar in Clonakilty Ireland.
What kind of Strat is it? Can't find any info on it online.
@@groundguitar Don't know TBH but seem to remember it being light blue. If I'm in there anytime I'll have a look. I imagine Noel might have given it as he lived nearby and was in there a lot.
I think he gave back the “Linda” strat to Linda Keith who got Chas Chandler to see Hendrix in New York
Cool video btw
He played a black strat at the Isle Of Wight concert. My brother Peter Max Baranet, of Max Guitars, has owned this guitar for many years. The guitar was also owned by Mike Bloomfield ., before He gave it to Hendrix? The guitar has 6 holes drilled at the top of the neck where it had been converted to a 12-string at one time. Buddy Miles met with my brother and confirmed to my brother that yes, this was the same guitar. After he died my sister a Scientologist stole it from his estate.
Bollocks
No mention of his staple P90 Les Paul?
Its sad that Jimi worked so hard to become famous etc but died at only 27 years of age and its a tragedy for his dad too who must have worked damn hard to afford the 2 electric guitars he got Young Jimi as back in the 1950s Electric guitars were very expensive probably a whole months wage back then.
01:55 Bo Diddley the Gunslinger album cover.......
How'd you forget to mention his white 1967 Gibson triple pickup SG Custom? The one he played on the Dick Cavett show.
This was very cool. Unless Fender wasnt doing artist sponsorships at that time, suprised they didn't make Jimi an actual left handed strat.
Jimi did have a lefty strat but traded it for another guitar to Stephen Stills
Correction, that black Strat belongs to the Hendrix Estate not the Danneman family.
His brother has a sunburst strat 1963 that was given to him, by Jimi, nqot that many people now this😮
Please, could it be possible to make a video like this one but about Freddie King's guitars? I don't know anything about the gear of that blues artist... And there's not much info that I could have found...
I love the journey of him and his guitars but curious why the 1:37 photo shows him playing right handed.
Do you mean the black-and-white video? No idea, but I'm guessing the show was not played live, and they just told him to "mime" playing right-handed.
@@groundguitar As a guitar player myself I am just saying he is holding the guitar in a very natural way. A lefty playing right or a righty playing left seem to always look awkward when they are not holding the instrument the way they normally hold it.
Didn't even start watching and I can tell you already that Dweezil Zappa has the one that was burned at Monterey. Frank had it rebuilt.
I only ever heard of one Guitar being burned by Jimi Hendrix! Holy shit, I'm sorry!

Uli's the man. His statement is true. Too bad Mitch couldn't have sold the white Strat to Paul Allen and got 10X's as much. I would've loved to go to that museum in Seattle. But I did make it to Cleveland R+R Hall of Fame and they had a few of Jimi's things.
Clapton was trying to find him the night he died, wanting to gift him a *lefty* sunburst and maple strat.
There is a photo of him with one I think, one with a large maple headstock. I’m QUITE sure there had to be one, but I might be hallucinating it
There was/is no "burned at Miami" Strat. Jimi is known to have burned two Strats, one at Astoria, and the other at Monterey. Zappa received the guitar in Miami, and that's where the "burned in Miami" stuff came from.
@@lext4374 The Astoria strat was auctioned for a half-million bucks in 2008. So the Zappa strat is clearly a third burned strat.

Hendrix, Gilmour and Blackmore all had the exact same black maple cap Stratocaster model. Just to say...

Jimis silver strat from the hollywood bowl is also extremely rare
How many guitars he played total? Like 40-50? Just about 7-8 strats from 1966-1970z
52 that we've tracked so far, including electric and acoustic. But there's probably more. See list here - www.groundguitar.com/jimi-hendrix-gear/
Cheers!
So when the Flying V was repainted to match how Jimi had painted it, it wasn’t restored to its original condition
Because that paint job wasn’t the original condition
Fair enough - should've said "painted to replicate the original design", or something similar to that.
yes
I know exactly what happened to the black strat and a white strat as well.
Michael Jeffries gave those guitars to a friend who was a crazy dude from New York City.
He had them for a short time and got ripped off getting out of a taxi cab, losing both guitars.
Michael Jeffries gave him the guitarist because Teddy was a crazy good guitar player very weird, very, very good.
Jeffrey was going to make him the next Jimmy Hendrix I guess.
No that strat Monica had is the real one, it has been matched up by serial numbers same as the white one
I don’t believe this story based on “jefferies”. His last name was Jeffery.
He is the G. O. A. T.🤘
What ever happened to the white Strat with the Tele headstock?
As far as I know, it was only used once - at the Newport Festival in 69. No idea what happened to it though, but some info on it we have here - www.groundguitar.com/jimi-hendrix-gear/jimi-hendrixs-1960s-fender-stratocaster-telecaster-neck-newport/
Where does the custom painted white strat that he sacrificed at Monterey Pop festival in 1967 fit in?
Frank Zappa's kid has that one. It's got a cool story too. Edit: Dweezil Zappa has the one from the Miami Pop Festival.

@@groundguitar Thank for the info! Great job on the video - I really enjoyed it!

How about the Monterey strat?
What about the guitar he set on fire at Monterey pop festival?
I read before that Frusciante changed the neck actually
Goddamn thieves! This has happened to many a famous player, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, and many more, including the not so famous, who walked back on stage at the bar they were playing at only to find an empty guitar stand. These are the guys that it really hurts because it's much more difficult for them to replace. A nice guitar costs a lot of money!
Jimi smoked cigars? (Did you mean cigarettes? )
I thought "are you experienced" was recorded at Olympia with Eddie Kramer...
This website has a pretty accurate timeline of what was recorded where - hendrix.guide.pagesperso-orange.fr/timeline.htm
Decided to skip Monterey Strat as it would be just Stratocaster across the board.
Yes, two Flying Vs, the other one was left-handed and custom-made for Jimi. Btw, there is even a third Flying V finished in tobacco sunburst which he used briefly in 1969.
Agree, and I'd say David Gilmour should be mentioned too.

Surprised y’all didn’t include the “notch” strat. Also a lot of people don’t realize there were actually at least 2 white “Woodstock” looking Strats and 2 “black beauty “ Strats. I think one of the black ones stayed in the studio cuz it’s rarely seen other than TTG studios.
Yeah, I don't know any more about the "notch" Strat. I wrote about it on the website, but I think I might be wrong in assuming they are two different guitars. A lot of people have come to me with pictures showing the wood grain, and basically proving they are one guitar - so I'm not so sure anymore there were two white maple Strats.
@@groundguitar I was one of those people back in like 2018/19 or so. It’s still a bit confusing, even to me. Also, I’ve been tryna tell y’all for years. During Monterey, there was no sunburst strat. All the maple Strats and the white with rosewood fingerboard he played at Hawaii and in the hotel pics had it lower as well.
