You do a review of this weird ass guitar, but can't take the time properly review a Rickenbacker. Any Rickenbakcer. Yay! Another fu@#in Gibson. Another damn Fender! 😒 mix it up bro.
Time to change your pad?
Are certain colors shipping at certain times? Mine isn’t excepted to arrive until August.
That is a very unusual headstock. There is a John 5 signature model that uses the same headstock, but the tuners aren't placed the same. And of course the original 12 strings. I don't think I've ever seen it outside of those three though.
Sweet demo playin brother 😎
That headstock looks like a Smurf's hat
I hate you for this ,😂😂
I would say it looks like something else...
@@jackds7107 ;))
That's what I always call those too. Probably in my top 5 ugliest headstocks imo
@@_dmfd Agreed.
Those pickups actually sound pretty good.
100% agree
Lovely clean tones.
I've been meaning to get that harley benton telecaster with filtertron pickups on it so that it'd be much like this Maverick is. All of that glorious gretsch style tone with none of the feedback. One of my dream guitars is the big orange Gretsch that Pete Townshend played on Who's Next. That big amazing powerchord tone on Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again. But I've got a big hollowbody guitar already that has p90s in and you can't add much gain at all before the feedback starts going wild. So I'll get the tele with filtertron instead of this expensive Fender maverick thing. It's cool but just too pricey. Even if I replace the pickups in the tele with Seymour Duncan filtertrons it'll still be less than a 5th of the price of the maverick dorado
Hell yeah they do
Christopher Gwinn So are they actually Filter’Tron type pickups, or just standard PAF style made to look different. Because the pickups were the main thing that made me click on the video, and I was disappointed when he suggested they’re just regular humbuckers.
You've become my go-to guy on the newer guitar release reviews, i'm sure many here can share that sentiment!
Like playing a huge Cadillac lol. I would have that headstock dented up crashing it into stuff
I hate it.
Take a saw to it.
Like the entire parallel universe line:
I would love this if it cost half as much
@Conor Winston maybe, but I buy stocks and bonds to invest, I buy guitars to play
You would spend $1,250 on it?
I’m a stock trader too. I saw the green version of this guitar and saw a 100% return in 10 years
If it’s a $2500 guitar it should NOT have a licensed bigsby
I agree ,if it's an American guitar it should have been proudly graced with an American Bigsby, and I'm British btw.
@Nobby Heads Wtf?
Right
What? You think a guitar that expensive should have a cheap knockoff fake bigsby?
@@joebryant8500 Laziness ?
That case is killer, but that headstock... it’s a bit hard to look at. Everything else is cool 😎
Right...needs viagra.
Flaccid.
Definitely a dope case
Yeah not a fan of the head stock. Really lets it down.
Aw man I dig that headstock
your genuinely getting much better at playing man. fair play. great review
Great videos man, I don't see many people get nearly as in depth as you do 🤙
That clean tone sounds so good!
I love that you find all the oddball models like this and do reviews of them.
i love ur vids always teaches me more bout guitars
I love the way you give your honest opinion and aren't swayed by the name on the guitar.
the sound demos are so much better, great job!
I love the channel keep it up. Your vids are the best.
Love it! It has such an outlandish yet cool in-your-face style setter vibe. Love it! Great video
Ilike the shots in the background during the demo, nice edition!
THIS IS THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE I WANTED HELL YEAH
I wanted the green one but that is discontinued sadly
But it’s sold on websites still
First time watching your channel and I’m super impressed! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!! Very detailed. 🙌
I was spent when I saw the green case. I've heard that the "P" stand for "Phender." (LOL). The combination of those pickups and the tailpiece makes it look (to me) like an old Teisco guitar. I would have put a Jazzmaster or Mustang vibro unit on it. I'm picking up a very "Gretsch" vibe on those pickups. I love that!! Very rockable.
It sounds great with very light distorsion (much lighter than the one Austin used in this video) or, better, no overdrive at all.
Dude loved the tone in the playing demo
Your playing fit the guitar. Good video Trogly.
I am really digging the sound of those pickups! The neck pickup sounds fantastic!
I couldn't care less about that model but that case is making me drool... It's perfect for a seafoam green strat or tele! I hope those cases sell individually!
Exactly, I have a Sea Foam green Tele that would look great in that case, as for the guitar, well, I think it's ugly as hell. Pass...
My Seafoam ja
My mystic Seafoam jazz😊
They do. I have a Sage Green Strat in mine.
I don't know why but it's got that nice characteristics to it. Amazing work, Fender as always!
Love those pickups!
Love it. I was a little kid in the 1960s and that has the vibe of the budget guitars from Harmony, Teisco, etc., that I obsessed over in catalogues and department stores. It's a guitar and it's ELECTRIC!!! Off the chart coolness for a little kid at the time.
Thanks for reviewing this Trogly; I’ve actually ordered one of these in but in Mystic Pine Green. I’m from Australia so they’re quite a lot dearer here, over $4000 and there is an expected wait time of June or July and that was before the Corvid19 crisis! But none the less, excellent review! You’ve renewed my enthusiasm for when mine arrives, especially with that green case.
And?
Like it! Sounds great. I'm a big Fender fan, NOT a bigsby fan. A hard tail option would be nice. On a $2500.00 budget, I could come up with six other guitars to buy for the price.
Thanks for the review 👍
Charles Harper you might be able to get the entire squier vintage vibe lineup
Joshua Chen ahahahahahaha
Like a nice new Gibson LP Standard lol
It looks like a complete "parts bin" build...so WHY do I absolutely love it!? The Shaw pickups sound incredible!
Love that sound.. cleans are amazing
Excellent review trogly...
I like the sound. Headstock is like an old Christmas stocking, but I appreciate it.
I like everything about it, including the headstock! And it sounds great
oh man, you never disappoint
sounds amazing!
Excellent review
I like that bridge pickup.
those pickups sound beautiful
Hey Trog, that green screen B-Roll during your playing demo is cool. 👍
It looks like a guitar that I had ordered from the JC Penney catalog back in 1975. For $75.
Nostalgic vibe.
Ichika Nito Did a video on it, but it was just him playing it. He named the video "Funny Guitar"
I thought of him while playing this guitar. That was a NAMM Show video
ruclips.net/video/xjdNvXeuwcw/видео.html
Hey Austin, first of all, 123,000+ subscribers!!! Man you were at what was it 87,000 on December 31? That's almost 40,000 new subs in exactly 4 months. The word is definitely getting out, congrats man you deserve it!!
Now, for a little bit of time for Austin to pat himself on the back, or I guess maybe I am patting him on the back? lol. In the last 3 days I have had the opportunity to talk to people and explain to them things about Gibson's that they did not know, ALL of what I was teaching them I learned from watching this channel! 7 years ago all I knew about the Gibson Les Paul was 1) I have wanted a Gibson Les Paul Standard since I was 12 (in 1977) and 2) It was the guitar that Les Paul the man himself had designed from the ground up and that is what made it such a special guitar.
Of course now I know that Les did not design the guitar at all, he did suggest a few things though, and the Les Paul I have wanted since I was 12 was not the Standard model but was in fact a Custom!! All I knew is Ace Frehley played one and it was SO cool!! But NO I did not think the Les Paul was so cool because Ace played it, it was the guitar itself and you gotta remember, Paul Stanley was the one always playing the weird cool ones like the V's and the Iceman's!! LOL I have an Iceman because of wanting one of those since I was about 13, but not as much as the LP.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know Austin that the stuff you are teaching us here is being used and has come in quite helpful. Now, if you're still reading this lol, the 2016 Les Paul Studio - how many pieces was the back and the top? I stripped that 2016 I got from you back down to the bare wood and am going to maybe paint it white and I noticed the back is a 4 maybe a 5 piece and the front (top) is a two piece. I thought I had heard they were supposed to be solid mahogany back, or was that the customs only?
I just bought the green version , was looking for a Gibson feel that played like a fender. This is it. If you like both a Gibson and a Fender and want the best of both worlds. This is it. The holy grail. The ebony fretboard feels like Brazilian rosewood. I love how this guitar plays and feels. Possibly the best guitar I’ve ever played
Holy shoot he's right hey what do yall think is fender's next case ooh maybe the next case might be a neopolitan themed case
@Kal blackmon
I think you need to learn punctuation.
Wow. Looks great!.
I knew it was the Maverick. Even wrote it in yesterday's video :D
This just made me smile. I kinda' dig the old surfer guitars, played a Norma for many years. Now days I am happy with a more traditional style guitar.
Also, I am really loving videos showing the pricier Fenders taken apart. My SQUIRE Tele-Deluxe seems to be better made than most of the new Fenders I see and cost a whole lot less.
i really like the sound of those pickups
Sounded great!
Very cool looking neck plate!
That's an awesome guitar I love The binding/block inlays on the neck.but just like a lot of these other comments that headstock is an eyesore
Pickups sound good and the headstock looks like Fenders first pointy headstock !
Would love to see you go over a Gretsch single cut.
it sounds much better than I expected
I like the way that it sounds.
Good review - the case is a standard Fender color, "Surf Green".
Really has a Burns/WEM vibe to it. Love the different stuff sometimes.
It’s sounds really good!
The pickups sound pretty good
That guitar is beautiful!!!
I really heart that case!
As far as the COA and bag (the same dimensions as what was given to you) they fit perfectly in the case my elite strat from 2018 came with. They didn’t think it through when using a different case.
I'm looking forward to the review of the new trouble maker Tele, and that strat cross LP junior!
That's the best clean sound Troggly has ever achieved.
Great video and cool guitar! My favorite color is that gold mist one. Not cheap though at $2500...
Johnny Winter played a Fender Xll at Woodstock, strung up with six strings. Then the Custom, and the Maverick come out.Why Fender didn't include him in the initial promotion is beyond me.Seemed like a missed opportunity. This guitar has a great sound due to the extended string length, and "chimey" pups..Very reminiscent of Johnny Winter's tone at Woodstock.(Check out him and his brother's version of "Tell The Truth"). This guitar is a real Blues Rock "sleeper"!
You can use one of those school pink rubber erasers to hold the strings on a Bigsby until they have tension to keep them in place. High gain squeal is due to pickup microphonics from unpotted pickups (players in that market have a fear of wax so the factories keep it out).
Im not a Fender fan and i reaaaally like the Maverick, such an under rated model. Its in my bucketlist.
The best thing to help with stringing up a bigsby is locking tuners. Those should be standard on any guitar with a bigsby.
I could see how that would be VERY helpful haha
@@Trog actually locking tuners are just super nice even if you have a hardtail. I makes changing string so much easier.
Locking tuners should just be the new normal on anything over $400...
I think that second cut is for having the guitar sit on your lap with the neck more straight up and down. I like to play my classical guitar more in an up and down attitude because it is easier to fret more difficult chords if you do not need to come under the neck. I have always wondered why guitars generally do not have that second cut to allow both a more flat, horizontal profile and a more "cello" like relationship.
Those pickups are very likely unpotted, which Tim Shaw likes for the vintage-voiced low output humbuckers. The Fender American Professional Tele Deluxe with Shawbuckers have the same sensitivity to higher gain (at which point they'll squeal), and are a bit microphonic.
The string tree you mentioned looks like the one on my Fender Villager acoustic 12 string which is also a Fender XII neck cut out where it meets the sound hole. The blocks and binding are very few y similar to my '66 Jazzmaster, same with the knobs.
Thank you for another great vid! I'm not in the market for that guitar, but I have more info if a go that way!
I have a tele with a bigsby and putting on locking tuners did wonders for the re stringing
Well a great review I agree it’s a collectors thing for 2500 I had no idea that wasn’t a real bigsby that was educational, but I agree that it’s difficult to hold and i can’t remember that model at all and I have been a fender lover for quite a while so thanks for the review I solidly agree with the points you have made and I like my teles much more now and I have no desire to have one I have several guitars but I can only play one at a time P s I hope you unload it soon
Trogs is a chill dude
I own a PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow Bigsby, Doing a String Change on it requires 3 hands, my guitar tech that I usually send mine to, to get it restrung, has a special tool he got designed when he worked as a Builder for LADO Guitars in the 80s that allows him to restring Bigsby's without issue.
I've never seen this in my life I thought I seen it all cool and crazy
I don’t know that I’d call the Maverick "goofy”. I’d say it’s "bad ass”! I might feel different if it was painted a solid color, but that burst is sick! Ok, just saw the 2 metallic paint jobs and they’re sweet too. 1 please!
I've been jonesing for the metallic green one. Unfortunately my budget dictates that I'm gonna have to wait for a used one to pop up...
That guitar has some fantastic tones both clean and dirty. Really surprised!
This guitar is pretty cool.
2:54
Many people dont know this but traditionalist actually means "a very sad person"
Man this is a sweet axe!
0:49 I said the exact same at the same time, love the Tiffany blue.
I love it and I’m not even to the playing review. Funny enough, I use to be in love with the Electric XII, because of the mustang offset-ish body...but I always thought to myself, it’d be cool if they made it in a 6 string. Little did I know there was the Maverick...you taught me something new today. This version, since they’re doing Parallel Universe, would’ve been really slick with a CBS style headstock.
that guitar looks awesome.
Lots of dead ash trees in my area thanks to the emerald ash borer. I often wonder about buying a portable saw mill and chopping them up for guitars.
Reminds me a little of Hofner guitars with those pickups and part of the neck
Hi Trogly! The "strange" string retainer is the Fender XII string retainer, that's why you have 8 staggered holes instead of 4.
Aw, I was hoping you'd review the sparkomatic.
Not always a big fan of in-betweens, but this guitar's middle position is sweet clean
it sounds pretty amazing! im always impressed how versatile these new fenders are! Gibson should be taking note! would i ever buy one new? no,ide wait a few yrs and pick up a used one, or better yet just by a set of the pickups it has in it and build something? cause 2500$ is insane! 700-900$ range is what ide expect..
700-900? With a bound ebony fretboard with inlays? No. IMO $1499.= would have been a more appropriate price. Why? Gut feeling... experience... $1499.- is what I would maximally pay for a sunburst Jazzmaster with more or less the same fretboard.
I personally dont feel that Gibson and Fender are even in the same world of guitars as there just such different animals.
best sounding guitar i've everheard !
pickups sound quite in the filtertron territory, figured they could just be filters with a blade on one side, but they did look a little too short to really be using that type of construction.
COOL!!! I love it! A Fender copy of a Teisco Del Ray!!! Gotta have one!!
This thing looks so cool. Teisco vibe.
They should market the Maverick headstock as a custom option for those of us that would like straight-thru stringing, in place of the traditional Fender headstock with string trees. Last year, I had a "Frankenstrat" assembled for me with locking tuners in place of the string tree.
Its body happens to be ash, which is significant when you mention the detail about Fender discontinuing the harvesting of ash wood. The guy who assembled it for me happened to have an ash body on hand, and I had previously wanted one.
I also purchased a TravelCaster, which has a headstock kind of like this one, though half the size. It's like a PRS headstock, or that of the Brian May Red Special, both of which are better suited for straight-thru stringing.
It could just be that the bridge pickup needs an extra coating of wax.
I'd love to see a reissued Fender marauder
