I feel like I'm the only one who loves the headstock. Always have. Off course, they used to support 12 tuners, but then again, I remember Johnny Winter playing the Fender XII (same headstock) and he used it as a six string guitar. I'm a simple man. I loved Johnny Winter, thus I loved the Fender XII. And I think it's fair to assume that most of us love certain guitars because we grew up watching and listening to our heroes playing Stratocasters, or Telecasters, or Les Pauls or whatever it was they were playing. But all of these guitars were played by so many great guitar players, so it's hard not love all the classic models and shapes. You don't see many Rickenbackers or Mosrites, because the number of guitar gods playing them have never been that huge (not as huge as the Fenders or Gibsons anyway).
Funny how these things work. I'm 52 years old. When I was six or seven years old I'd draw rock bands in my sketchbook. I wanted to become a rock musician since I was five. I wouldn't draw houses or horses or flowers or whatever it is that kids draw. Instead I drew rock bands on smokey stages, guys with long hair and high heel boots (glam rock, sweet, Alice Cooper, those guys). I still have a lot of these drawings. And the funny thing is that I apparently knew two guitar shapes. The Stratocaster (off course) and...... the MOCKINGBIRD!!! I never understood why that Mockingbird was so prominently there in most of my drawings. I think I found the answer when I saw the footage of an old episode of Top Pop (Dutch version of Top of the Pops) on the internet. George Kooymans, guitar player of the Dutch rock group 'Golden Earring' played a Mockingbird in that video. I must have seen it when I was a kid. I loved the shape of that guitar. I still do. The only thing I got wrong was the colour. I thought he played a turquoise Mockingbird. He didn't. It didn't matter though, 'cos since then I've always wanted a turquoise coloured Mockingbird.
Maybe I was a little colour blind. For years I thought Francis Rossi played a walnut coloured Tele.
Where was I? O right, I love the hockey stick headstock of the Fender XII and the Maverick (Pete was right, Lee. That headstock is indeed known as 'the hockey stick'). 😊
In a parallel universe, this was the guitar Tommi Iommi used before being kicked out of The Beatles in 1968.
It even had a monkey sticker on it, who would’ve thought ?
Is that the same universe where he doesn't have a goatee?
Damn, that head stock is half the scale length. I can see this being a vintage hit with the 2050 hipster crowd.
Starshipsters by then, surely?
The originals are hipster guitars... for wealthy hipsters who have friends in the vintage guitarworld. So they're pretty much the opposite of scruffy bearded long haired art college kids they try to be. Let them move on to this so the Jazzmasters and Jags will be safe for the normal guys again.
Scale length is bridge to nut, headstock not included.
@@shawnadams1693 yeah he just meant that it was as long as half the scale length bc its massive
Doubles as a sickle for cutting down those pesty weeds.
That really reminded me of the fact that Andertons is first and foremost a guitar shop, not a platform for actual reviews. Never seen Danish Pete that underwhelmed.
Exactly....
Who dragged Pete through barbed wire, and why? Relic job?
It doesn't look authentic....
Covid
Someone held a hairdrier over Pete and then sprayed him with an upside-down air duster.
He may be an alcoholic
Ever sat on Pete's lap? They go wild!
Looks like the drummer from the black keys was given a signature model 😂 Sounds hella good tbf
does pat play guitar? I had no idea
I’ve felt like I’ve herd pat say he originally wanted to play guitar
@@jackh1570 he plays guitar he had a post on Instagram talking about finding his old mustang
Jack H yeah he started off as a guitarist but the people they were supposed to jam with never showed up so Dan made him play drums.
Wayne Gretzky boys! Give some love to us Canadians eh! Come on. And the movie is Slap Shot with Paul Newman. Lol! Lots of love for you guys, keep it up and stay safe eh!
He's is talking about the movie Going starting Sean William Scott (Stifler from American Pie).
Thank you
@@andrewwatts970 there's also Miracle...but hes prob talking about Slapshot
“Who was that Canadian bloke who was real famous for playing ice hockey?”
“Dan Marino?”
Wayne Gretzsky
The Great One. Wayne Gretzky
The great one Wayne Gretzky
@@timsmall4867 They said Gretschy later though
@@timsmall4867 You're not pronouncing his name right, it's pronounced 'Mario Lemieux'.
That headstock is 100% referred to as the hockey stick. Also happens to be one of my favorite headstock shapes. Can't believe how many people don't like it.
Lee, that hockey film you were thinking of was Slap Shot with Paul Newman, I think. Excellent movie!
Thanks for finding that out, as you can see was playing on our minds... 😉
Absolutely right..."old-time hockey"...
It's really a cult movie here in Quebec,Canada. Everyone knows all the exact quotes, in french canadian of course.
@Mick Blizzard
He's a hockey player and a guitar player...Wayne Grestchky
(tumbleweed)
Is their any other hockey film? Lolz
I like pretty well everything about these guitars, shape, headstock, pickups, colours. Thanks for the demo.
I adore that headstock and the whole thing in general. The marauder they did in that custom shop video is also my favorite guitar I've ever seen. Built in delay and all. One day!!
Really? thats the most strange headstock I have seen. The body is very nice though.
@@GenosGlory yeah I love it. Fits the body perfect imo
Benjamin Fowler cool thats why guitars are fun some can like em some dont. I wonder if they released a pinky version and called it Flamingo Pink to fit with the heastock.
This proves there’s someone out there for everyone....
Are you wearing Beer goggles?
I love these guitars-they are very unique. The green is absolutely stunning
Headstock is specially designed for g-spot stimulation.
Male or female ?
If it didn’t have such a goofy head stock I would definitely check one of these out.
If it didn't cost 2200 bucks, I might check it out.
Right? That headstock is butt ugly
Love the body shape and paint job. That head is a monstrosity, though.
I would be all about that headstock if it was 6 in line
without the knob I'd like it more. seems like they just didn't have somewhere to put the sticker and had to add a little more.
Absolutely, fully agree with Pete's sentiment of putting a different neck on it.
I'd love to get one and change the neck on it. Only issue is I'd be missing out on that rad matching headstock :/
could always get a 24.75 strat neck from warmoth. not cheap, but what’s $500 when you’re already dropping $2500 on this lol.
Paper bag job: nice body, shame about the face/headstock
You'd have to double bag that headstock
Put the American flag over its head, and play it for the glory................or something like that.
Lmfao it’s just a field hockey stick my girl used these for ages
It's a BOBFOC - Body off Baywatch Face off Crimewatch
I LOVE this fuzzier sound to your jams. Glad to see you two play with more aggression!
They’re super cool including the headstock, to each their own.
Totally unique looking and sounding guitars and these guys drew out some amazing sounds. Thank you.
For some reason they remind me of Homer Simpson's Ultimate American car?
I can't decide whether I love it or hate it. The green color - 👍
that body, hardtail bridge, lollar pups and a modern Tele neck - my dream machine
That’s perfect. Wouldn’t change a thing from those specs.
That into. Damn good.
Glad you enjoyed it... Thanks for tuning in! 🤘
Pete’s always killin’ it but that was an amazing solo Lee!
Ooooooo more Parallel Universe!!!!!
There's always love for the Fender Parallel Universe!
The outro jam is gorgeous
I like everything about that beautiful guitar except for how long the head stock is. I think it would look better a little shorter.
Got to play one of these the other day, they're a lot of fun!
Its BEAUTIFUL!
Now that Fender owns Bigsby, it was just a matter of time before they started installing them on a bunch of guitars
They’ve done it more often than you’d think in limited runs actually, including an American Special Jazzmaster in the Magnificent 7 series in 2016. And then, of course, there has been the specially made for Fender “F” branded Bigsbys that have found their way onto Telecasters for decades, most recently being a feature pretty consistently on a selection of Telecasters coming out of Fender Japan.
I own one of those '72 reissue bigsby telecasters.. it's great 🤷♂️
Love the Cap's creativity in the last jam. Guitars like this break you out of familiar patterns, imo.
super rad!! love it
My feeling was that they sounded great either to provide an interesting counterpoint platform for rhythm or lead against a more traditional rig. I think the ambient guys could make a lot of use of this whilst looking out there cool.
Least Fender sounding Fender that ever Fendered!
Clearly you've never played a Fender Katana.
A squire Version of this and i‘d buy it within a heartbeat! A Offset guitar that fits exactly my taste AND it‘s from my favorite brand? Hell yeah!
Always fun to see something more creative than another S, T or LP style guitar. Love the unusually (for Fender) fancy neck!
Nice!! Love the headstock. Odd beauty.
Beautiful!
Beautiful. I want the green one.
Great closing jam, that build up was epic! Felt as if The Capt was more at home on this guitar but Pete got into more by the end!
Holy fuck- Fender is on with their design for this. Everything is beautiful; visuals, pickups, overall balance. Impressed.
the hockey knowledge displayed here made me lol out LOUD! :)
I play a Sheraton. Once you play a vintage style neck, big headstock, you don’t look back. The tone and sustain is awesome.
Lee! I love that reverb. It's absolutely wonderful. Kind of Peter Green feel to it.
Lee is getting to be a really fine player, look forward to hearing his play.
Petes got that 60s garage fuzz lead tone down pat!! Killing it!!!
Opening jam was lit boys!
That outtro WAS epic!
the hockey player's name is Wayne Gretzky and Dan Marino was a quarterback for the Dolphins in the NFL
Pete is right that body on a strat or telly neck would look killer 😎
Lee's riff/tones at 17:30 might have sold this to me. this guitar is SO cool.
Very nice opening jam. 🤘🏻
A Dane and an Englishman discuss Ice Hockey... *smirk from Sweden* Love you guys though, thx for the entertainment!
epic jam- out! Captain plugs ears as the Dane vigorously searches more variations. classic. Ü ♫
Fiiiinally Fender came up with a cool design !! Headstock looks good, i like the green one.
Epic jam
Those guitars sound like The Heartbreakers. Literally, they sound like they builders magically imbued them with every Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers record.
Jagstanguda? Nifty guitars for sure.
My hatred of that headstock knows no bounds. I feel they made sure to put the decal on the knob, because players would cut that shit off with a hacksaw.
A subset of us Yanks refers to that as the "limp dick" headstock.
This should be called Wizard Hat headstock :) Sounds great!
Gawd that guitar sounds great
killer tone!
Great intro jam!
My local shop has the one Rob's playing. It's been hanging on their wall for a few months. At first I didn't like it. Now I think I should plug it in cause its looks have grown on me. "Lord, please don't let love infect my heart when I plug it in. My wife would never speak to me again."
Watching Lee turning into a great player is just awesome. Pete playing, man, you got chops. That headstock kills it, but it works better on the green one. Those thing sound badass though.
I like it when Pete swears *chuckle*
wow they are awesome. Wish they would make a squier version so i have a chance of being able of afford it
Yes Lee in the US this headstock has always been called the Hockey Stick as long as I can remember. Me, 58 yrs. Mainly 12 string, most took out 6 timers to make it a 6 string. Funny seeing the holes. Played it. Only can call it "spongy" to play. Sound wise it is a Jazz Master. NOW, a pair of Gretsch Black Tops would be interesting.
Restringing a bigsby made easy: Make a 90 degree bend in the string close to the ball end and pop it on the pin. Makes it sit in place and you'll have no trouble restringing it in no time.
Made even easier... get a guitar with a proper US Bigsby rather than this import nonsense (on such an expensive guitar) and then buy the Callaham string through post (and ideally the grooved roller bar) and you’ve got a much better functioning Bigsby (especially tuning-wise) and one that’s as easy as any other guitar in the world to restring. 🤷🏼♂️😋😃
How does it stay in tune with using whammy?
My wife said the headstock looks s little let's say disappointing? Lol 🤣
Yes it was the “hockey stick” headstock, and........I think Johnny Winter when I see that guitar! He used a Fender 12, with only 6 strings for a while!
I really dig it - but I like all those old Guilds with Gumby bodies, and those oddball Gretsch solid bodies with similar shape.
I love the Bigsby, and there are simple tricks for string changes.
Cool.
I see an early sixties retro-band in 'space'-suits playing then-futuristic music, like 'Telstar', with helmets on. Like that Klaatu-character from that movie. If you're in such a band, this is the guitar for you!
this is probably the funniest video i've seen on this channel in ages
Another instant case of either falling in love with it or hating the fact that it even exists, personally I love it, Pity I can't afford one especially the green one Lee is playing
i would change the neck but everything else made me fall in love with that guitar at first sight
Hey capt i think this guitar really suits you in term of tones. I can really hear you
I agree with Pete, it needs a Tele neck, or at least a Tele headstock. At the moment, in my humble opinion, it's up there with Tyler Guitars for the headstock from Hell prize.
Man I can't believe all the hate this headstock is getting. It's seriously my favorite Fender headstock design. But then again I also like 3 bolt necks and bullet trussrods.
@@jdj5952 I had a teacher when I was at school who had a Fender 12-string with this headstock and it looked fine. I think, with me, it might be that there just seems to be lots of space on the headstock, and the 'bend' in it just seems odd to me, but each to their own.
I personally like the headstock a lot. I think it's a cool guitar. In my opinion the Telecaster has one of the ugliest headstocks ever but that's just me
Very cool.
Agree with Pete, just put a Jazzmaster neck on those (either with straight or reverse headstock) and it might be a great parallel version of the Jazzmaster itself. Maybe you guys can ask Fender to do an FSR for us? Hehe, cheers!
When is the black with gold hardware telecaster parallel universe ii troublemaker thing available to purchase?
2:31 You always gotta give the Smurf hat a good stroke!
Reminds me of some old Hollies tones. Like it.
The Fender Custom reborn. I remember when Fender introduced that design to use up a bunch of necks and bodies leftover from discontinued Fender XII production. It was ugly then, and hasn’t gotten any better with time 😅 But as originals are going for $5k+, I’m sure there’s a market. Regardless, it’s always a pleasure watching Lee and Pete play and chat.
Ooh that’s the first time I saw a headstock like that I’m not sure what I think about it 🤔
It's like a Fender Iceman. I'm in love.
It was Wayne Gretsky, legendary Edmonton Oilers ice hockey player. He's even got a statue!!
Love ur vids! Can u guys do fano guitars? Would love to see some on the RB6 or JM6. Especially a black, heavy relic RB6...
A limited run squier jaguar in that green would look amazing!
Please don't stop Pete when he talks about the bigsby! This is a real pasion)
Apparently nobody remembers that the Fender Custom/Maverick, which was what these were based on, were designed to use up leftover bodies and necks from the Fender Electric XII, which was discontinued by 1969-the Custom came out in 1970. The long headstock was cut down and redrilled to accommodate six strings, and the bridge rout in the body was filled in to accommodate a Mustang vibrato. Then they actually sold worse than the Electric XII did! Those Electric XIIs were really nice-much better than a Rickenbacker in my opinion! I’ve got one of last year’s Alternate Universe Electric XII reissues-I’ve only been waiting 50 years for Fender to bring them back!
I just never get the issues with bigsby’s I have multiple guitars with licensed bigsby’s not even the expensive ones and I have no problems. I really don’t have tuning problems and I take all the string off ever time I string it. To me they’re just GOOD!!!!
Will a telecaster or strat neck fit the neck pocket?
Your bigger issue is the scale length difference. Just don’t even try it... you can only swap scale lengths on guitars by using a specially designed conversion neck (like Warmoth make to turn a normal Fender into a baritone for example). If you fit a standard neck of a different scale length you’ll just get dreadful tuning and intonation issues that you simply can’t fix because all the frets will be in the wrong places. 😖
"It had Stifler from Stifler's mom". Watching these two trying to recall pop culture is very entertaining
Slap shot with Paul Newman. Best ice hockey film ever. With the Hanson brothers fighting
Duane Eddy- esque ( The "Rebel Rouser" Guy). Buddy of mine had an original one in Champagne Sparkle Pink.
Fender: Danish Pete wants a tele with that neck on it. Move move move!!!!!
Beautiful playing guys! These guitars sound fabulous..... crazy looking?? Why not something different for a change
The Shawbuckers sound great here.
