Wow, thank you for this! I cried the whole time. God, I loved STYX growing up in the 70's and 80's. They were one of the soundtracks of my life, and their music meant a lot.
Saw Styx several times from the 70s - 90s, with & without John. Don't get me wrong, Todd Sucherman is a monster on the kit, but it's John's contribution and style that helped to make those songs what they became. Incredible drummer, and vastly underrated. I saw them at the Indiana State Fair in 1991 during their EOTC tour. While we were hanging around the barrier, several band members came and went, but John is the only one who came up to us, said hello, asked how we were, and then posed for pictures. Such a down-to-earth guy considering how famous he was. The world became a little dimmer when he passed.
I just saw them the other night and man Styx still puts on a hell of a REAL rock concert just like the old days. Rock on in paradise, John! The boys are still doing you proud!
John Panozzo was an absolutely underrated drummer in Styx, and perhaps that was his intention. He was never a flashy drummer, he was never performing any drum solos and he definitely wasn’t obnoxious, either. His death dealt a devastating blow to Styx. At least his brother Chuck Panozzo still plays bass in Styx.
I remember heading to lunch at work in Evergreen Park one day. There was a very large funeral procession passing. I recall thinking to myself that someone must have been REALLY loved. I discovered that it was the procession for John. He was being laid to rest just across from where I was having lunch that day. He was really loved and admired. A great drummer with a great band from a great time !! RIP JOHN
For me, the best memorial is those beautiful vibrations he shared with us all, and that will echo for an eternity. Thank you, John, for sharing your passion with us. Peace.
Good on you for making this video, from one hardcore Styx fan to another. So sad that John is almost never talked about in interviews and we as fans know almost nothing about him. Dennis DeYoung lovingly refers to him as their "platinum drummer" because he was on all their greatest multi-platinum albums 💎 He was an amazing drummer and deserves to be in the conversations of greatest drummers of all-time. Finally bought and listened to all the Styx albums in their entirety and the body of work is just incredible. I love this band even more now than when I just knew 20 of the hits.
This is simply a blue collar Chicago regular guy resting place..It is not some over glorified Hollywierd final place for the stars like Forest Lawn. This is where some of my family is buried..John was just a south side Chicago guy from the old neighborhood. Lived simple did drink to excess but like Jim Peterek and DDY still live in Chicago area and just regular folk. Like Bob Seger is to Michigan. No bodyguards walk into grocery store and shop..
John was a really nice guy used to see him in the music crib from time to time a really great drummer that should be talked about just like my friend the late John Curulewski from Styx really really sad they both passed away way to soon thx for the video
Thanks for this video, I always wondered about his final resting place. However, I feel this incredible man who drummed on all the gold and multi-platinum albums, deserved a more elaborate memorial. I was shocked to see this simple marker!
The person video taping heading to the biggest headstone than the second biggest, than ... I thought he deserved something more appropriate from the band members.....
I just saw this for the first time today. I worked with Styx in the late 70's, and some of my fondest memories were of John goofin' around and being a big kid. It pains me to see such a minuscule tribute to such a great guy. You would think that with all the money that Dennis, Tommy and JY, and I suppose Chuck; although his health issues precluded him from playing a lot in the last 20 years; have made in their lifetimes, any one of them could have bought him a very nice headstone. I guess I'd have to agree with other comments that say he probably didn't want anything extravagant. He was always the most easy going and down to earth guy in the band followed up closely by Tommy. He is truly missed. I will always remember his smille
It's a humbly small grave plate, nothing overblown, ("Rockin' in Paradise" with the crossed drum sticks with a memento left by a fan) even though you would expect someone as famous as he was to have something bigger. It's very similar to Carl Wilson's grave which I visited when I went to LA. Thanks for posting it, I was just curious as to where it was located.
I think John deserves a wonderful head stone we should start a collection drive to get him one he definitely did a wonderful job and contributed to styx. Rest in peace John panozzo
i seen styx the day after john died as they were doing a 'return to paradise' tour to benefit johns family.they were in peoria. i gotta tell ya,they played for well over 2hrs and played about everything they could scrape up.RIP john..the band aint the same w/out you and dennis in it...
After reading all the comments here, I discovered that most everybody had the same reaction. They felt a need to rationalize the simplicity of his grave site. I must admit that I didn't expect a gaudy, gargantuan headstone, like some of those that are in this cemetery, but I did expect something more than a simple marker. I no the last few years of his life were kind of tragic and I hope he didn't lose all his money. On the other hand, he was a rock star and the family may have wanted something simple that wouldn't draw attention and possibly be vandalized. One might also think that maybe this was what John requested although most people don't plan their funerals at the age of 48.. RIP John, you were a great drummer, who brought many smiles to my life. I'm sure you are "rockin' in paradise".
I ember the first time sheared the band styx itwas when. I was twelve. I heard a song and thought to my self. Who is this band these guys are really good and a became fan of theband styx right away
It's quite possible that John Panozzo didn't want anything extravagant. Maybe he wanted something very simple for a gravestone. I think if he was the only star in that cemetery, he should of had the biggest gravestone in the place because of who he was, but it's very sad. JOEDRUMS2112 was here. Keep Rockin' ; )
Another thing to bear in mind, I've read somewhere that a lot of cemeteries these days prefer that the grave markers be more like the one that John's family got to mark his with! It's the same thing with my relatives who are buried @ Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, IL (North Side)!
Wouldn't it be nice if the remaining Styx brothers could scrape a few dollars together from their successful tours - and give him a little more deserving gravestone.
very well mentioned I understand that money isn't everything it's probably wat he wanted for a grave stone some live nd are the real reality of wat life is really about it really is a "Grand Illusion" RIP John
I agree with Joey P. Would have thought the marker would have been bigger. Even if the family couldn't have afforded more you would think the band would have pitched in. I even as a fan would have
I just ran into this video and thought the exact same thing. Iconic drummer with just a marker. Unless there is another motive for being nondescript the band should be ashamed of themselves for not honoring him better.
the band did the return to paradise tour(in '96) for the benefit of johns family.john was just the average joe..loved life but was his own worst enemy like so many other party animals....bonn scott comes to mind.
There's often an inverse relationship between the stature of a man and the size of his gravestone... Correction... "grave marker". I think his grave marker is perfect.
Wow... John Panozzo was an incredible drummer... I don't know the man or anything, but you'd think that his headstone would be a bit 'more' - Doesn't even look like its been kept up. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know.... I guess because he was such an inspiration to me and the world of music I expected more. RIP John.
Very disapointing on the marker/ monument, I would of expected much better for such a man and band?! I hope it didn't have anything to do with the infighting the band had!
Such a terrible video. Why not add music to it? - instead of letting the music fade away when you leave the car and the CD player - to hear only the lonely sound of rustling wind on a cold and overcast day. And this little grave is a disgrace, compared to the other impressive monuments around him. I'm sure the family had the money to pay for a headstone a least. Very sad.

most underrated STELLAR drummer in rock n roll ,... r.i.p. John Panazzo
Wishing John all the best, and to get well soon!

Speaking of Dennis, when he dies, I bet he'll have the biggest headstone (and marker) in the entire cemetery (x3) because that is who he is.
Ed Collins that’s a bit presumptuous
@@edcollins9377 so? A mix of personality made Styx, as in all true success band
@@edcollins9377 haha I think martron marty 1962 was trying to say you are the one presuming.

Johnpanozzo was thebest drummer styx. Ever had i feel sorry for his family my heart goes to Johns twin brother chuck they were really close
Tragic. One of the best ever.

There are some famous people in Holy Sep.
Holy Sep. what does that mean?
Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, IL.
Was at the concert where John was married on stage. Awesome day
R.I.P. John.

It would hurt his soul to see Styx still split up right now.
How the fuck would know?
Wouldn't it be nice if the remaining Styx brothers could scrape a few dollars together from their successful tours - and give him a little more deserving gravestone.
They prefer make money over his talent ....rats
@@JC-sj2pd John wasn’t married… And as far as we know he did not have any children.
RIP JOHN AND CHUCK PANOZZO..YOUR BOTH ARE MISSED.

omg ..my bad, I thought he had. Someone told me that, I make sure I say something to that person. I do apologize for my posting wrong info..
chuck is still alive and with the band
+Sheila MOTKO. no offence...but pay more attention
Will do,and no offense taken😊😎😱😊👍👋👀
Sheila MOTKO Chuck is playing now. Every now and then.
RIP, a nice memory, thanks.
Surprised me. I expected a bigger grave stone.

That is a sad excuse for such a successful man from humble beginnings.....so goes to show.....once your gone....you are REALLY gone. :(
Love Styx!
HE REPRESENTS living AND life AND science
How very sad, they should have at least improve his graveyard after all those years.

Royalty checks sure bought one impressive grave marker.
It doesn't take long to die from alcohol abuse. It is a terrible and painful way to go.

I was thinking it might be the middle cross monument.

It's John that died, Chuck is still alive and sometimes touring with the band.
Aren't you driving awfully fast in that graveyard? LOL
LMAO! I thought they were driving a little too damned fast.
So sad
I thought he'd have a headstone as well...
I like the new drummer styx has now but he will be abetter drummer then John eas
Dennis DeYoung's hairpiece cost 25X as much as John's grave marker.RIP John you were a larger than life great talented drummer!
Styx's John Panozzo
This is creepy. The uploader is a freak.
There should be a statue of one of the most awesome Gay basses in place of that cheap head stones
