I been playing drums forever and I know Bonham is the greatest rock drummer of all time hands down.
So because you picked up a pair of drum sticks., your opinion trumps everyone else's, everyone has their own favorite that's is what makes music so great. He definitely is one of the best!
Yeah as great as Bonham is, I find Carl Palmer and the late Neal Peart to be better. @@gregcraig2407
Wrong
@@gregcraig2407not one of the best the best almost any drummer out there will tell you the same thing
I’m glad this was filmed, no one would have believed it!
Bonham is easily the greatest rock drummer to have ever lived!
so inventive too. not easy to keep up the interest in a fifteen minute plus drum solo
You’d be surprised when you’re playing through mic’d drums on a stage like that. And probably a couple hits of weed would get you right into it. Man he was great!!
ruclips.net/video/FssULNGSZIA/видео.html
"Easily" is stretching it. There's definitely a case for Carl Palmer or Neil Peart.
I guess you’ve never seen Carl Palmer, Carmine Appice, Clive Bunker, or Neil Peart.
Guy was so damn good that I couldn't even tell that he dropped one of his sticks about 1 minute in
RIP John Bottom 🙏🥁
The craziest part about it is John Bonham kept getting better and better. Ive seen some of the older musicians just kind of Plateau and not get any better. Even before he passed the dude was just growing even more.
Hands down, John Henry Bonham was one of THE best drummers that ever lived
Not one of he was THE BEST! There isnt even a comparison
To drum like Bonzo and never missed a beat with the high hat's is amazing
Freaking impossible. Long live the work of John Henry Bonham! Nobody will ever drum like this again.
best drummer ever Led Zeppelin's John Bonham ...
I'm Gary Olsons mother and YOU ARE A GREAT DRUMMER.
Back in the year 1977 i won 2tickets to see Led Zeppelin thinking that led Zeppelin was one guy,,,saw John Bonham and been playing 🥁 drums every since,,,, the world's greatest Rock and roll drummer I've ever seen
Bonzo was the best and likely will never be matched. I often think of the old Buddy Rich Solos, which were flashy but Rich was never this good ever. Nobody is this good. I’ve been a drummer since high school and I’m 70 and Stijl drumming. I’ve listened to them All. I can copy some of Bonhams beats but this is a mad genius playing through his heart and soul and guts and more.
Bonzo and his drums were such an integral element of LZ, they just couldn’t sound the same with any other drummer, not even his son Jason. Jimmy has never played the same with anyone else, as a huge Zeppelin fan for over 50 years it made me sad there was no more after his death. But, there is the body of work and so many great songs that will live on forever.
All I can say is, WOW!!!! He was a freak of nature.
John Bonham stood out for several reasons, not just one thing. But his feel was one of the key ingredients. Everything he played had a very subtle Swing and backbeat (slightly behind the beat) Nobody else in Rock did that.
Hell I don't even know what you are talking about.
Basically his timing wasn't accurate, he was always dragging.
It’s called swing
Listen to how he fills the tone of the drum. Even though he's hammering he still has a touch on the toms for tone. Incredible!
there's no one like Bonham, cant be duplicated the best inmho
John Bonham was/is the king. Led Zeppelin were so amazing live, just wish I'd have been able to see them in the flesh.
Concert of a lifetime, when I was 5 my dad took me and parked outside the venue and it was so freaking amazing just listening. What I wouldn't give to go back now and see it.
Was lucky enough to see them in June 77.
I saw them live 5 times, starting with their '69 performance at the Fillmore East during their second US tour. Twice at MSG, once at the Boston Garden and once at the Shaffer Music Festival in Central Park. To me, the best one was the Fillmore concert!
This man is from another planet...
This should have been in the DVD in addition to the 1970 Moby Dick from RAH. Also the NQ from Seattle 77 has some impressive improv driven by Bonzo. Still the drummer I listen to the most. Always loved his drum solos!

akira jimbo
Neil Peart
Gene Krupa and Max Roach
And Billy Cobham.
This man was the ultimate pioneer, best ever, and fact on an acid induced trance drum solo!! Best ever!!
Not only does he has a remarkable drum solos in the world, he's also a family man a farmer, and part-time race driver . . . In his career . . .
With the look in his eye, you can see he is inside with his command of the beat .
Bonham cant be matched, his style was unique, played a bass drum like he had two.
1:22 he actually drops his stick lol. Another nice live Bonham clip
Although he was, by all means, a legend,,, he was also one hell of a drinker. Played through the drop like a champ of course though
@Hudson Donald Oh don't I know it 🤣🤦♂️ just figured for someone as professional as Bonham might as well find a different excuse for it. ✌🤘
Haha yeah and one would never know it until they saw it. Bonzo never missed a beat.
@@MeeMee-gz5vp yeah, still kind of embarrassing for a drummer that’s supposed to be so good!
@@stephenwebb921 I get what you’re saying. All drummers from amateurs to professionals drop their sticks
it’s such a shame he died at 32. just imagine how many more songs could have been written by the greatest band in history
John B didn't write any Zeppelin songs. A co-write on one or two tracks and that's all.
Great solo....I miss Mr. Bonham
The greatest drummer to ever set foot on the planet
Not even close. Buddy Rich, Vinnie Colauita, Steve Gadd, Thomas Lang, Dave Weckl...all better...Bonham was good but these guys were better
This is just fantastic 1975 amazing that he does these and then plays for 2 or 3 more hours his hi hat playing is unmatched miss this man the world missed out another great musician.
Bonham............The GOAT among drummers. 👍👍👍👍👍
This is the most influential drummer period! I have a ton of respect for Plant for not throwing Jayson to the lions, and keeping Zoe’s legacy intact
Elaborate please.
Always on time like a well oiled machine in perfect sync.
Best drummer ever. Hands down
I think Neil Peart is the best..
@elianad2083 I'm a huge Neil peart fan but he wasn't better than Buddy Rich, Vinnie Colauita, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Thomas lang
THIS. Is why Zeppelin broke up after Bonham's death. Fucking legend!
This dude was so good he was almost surreal
My 1st influence ,stairway .... backbeat convinced me to become a drummer . Right around his time of death is when is started to play on cardboard boxes 📦
True story ✌️
There are many good and very good drummers all over the world .The testament for GREATNESS comes for moving the needle ahead and into unknown territory ! Bonham did that and MORE ! He created a new way of playing which we STILL COPY TODAY ! Just ask Neil Peart ! ❤
Your right, but you can't ask Neil now. 4 years ago today he died.
He went from underrated, to overrated, back to underrated. He is just a great drummer and be happy someone filmed these clips.
I think it’s awesome that Jason has turned out to be a top drummer in his own right he carved out a path all his own, and played with some pretty fantastic bands and made a name for himself. A lot of musicians children don’t do anything…. Like Ozzie‘s kids
G.O.A.T
Bow down to the greatest! 😎
To Neil Peart..G.O.A.T
I love this song as much for the guitar riff as the drum solo. Every Led Zep fan knows instantly which song it is as soon as they hear it. Imo, killer guitar riff and Pages work at the beginning is as good as Bonham's solo work. Now doubt in my mind though that Bonham, for me, was the best. Far as I'm concerned Led Zep had the best at vocal, bass, guitar and drums. I'm a big fan of Bonzo's heavy handed beats. When the Levee Breaks is one of my favs, got the drum intro for a ringer on my phone, lol! Jonsie played keyboards as great as he did bass and no one was better than Page and Plant at what they did. Imo, there couldn't be anymore Led Zeppelin after Bonzo died, broke my heart but the the rest made the right decision.
Não existe um baterista substituto pra essa fera 🤘🤙Ê viva John Bonhan
When, at 1:22, you can drop a drumstick in the midst of a triplet run and no-one notices you all another one out of the bag......... you're the man
Please. That was nothing special.
Just wow!
Un grande en la bateria que deleita a los oyentes......exelente ..
Yup- unschooled, match grip w/ fulcrum, limb independence, used a Ludwig speed king pedal, pre-metal blast beats with the left hand, triplets, ghost notes, cross sticking, conga technique, varied dynamics, Paiste Giant Beats, Ludwig Acrylic Vistalite kit.
May JB’s Memory Always Be a Blessing.
Damn it Mr. Page this should have been included on the DVD that came out in 2003. Just think how this would sound if Page produced the sound and it was coming out of your big speakers ! + this is from 1975 not 77. Rock on John Henry !
Gotta love the drums.
Imagine being that gifted at something. It's a joy to watch people disappear to wherever they go when they're fully immersed in what they're doing.
The Best pure rock drummer talent.. incorporated some Buddy Rich in his playing.. Genius "Beast" drummer. doesn't miss a beat when he loses his right drumstick. gets another and keeps killing it.
This is definitely not Earl’s Court in 1977. This footage is from 1975. Bonham wasn’t even playing the Ludwig Vistalites by ‘77. Nonetheless, thanks so much for sharing this!!
RIP legend
No way can you beat that!! Unless you’re Bonham!!!!
Near the end Bonham twirls his stick. Don't worry John, our minds were were blown 10 minutes ago.
So impressive
Double bass pedal and hammered the highhat the whole time not missing. Ok ok drugs help but damn the crazy talent is nuts
He actually didn’t use a double bass pedal, I’m pretty sure it
was a single pedal!
the best vid ive seen RIP
Bonham is the best
17 minutes John Bonham is a god
Can you believe at one point JB didnt think he was that good of a drummer to be Led Zep !
The Legend lives 2024.
2022 watching; stills gets me chills
2024 👀
It’s sad to hear some of the comments. I was inspired to play drums listening to John Bonham and Led Zeppelin. Over the years after playing drums for 30 years I’ve come to learn that Buddy Rich is never going to be a Terri Bozio and Charlie Watts is never going to be a Stewart Copeland or Dennis Chambers. And that takes nothing away from any of them as artists. There’s a lot of incredible drummers out there just watch RUclips. Plus its hard to compare different styles and 10+ piece drum sets. And if that’s not enough just watch Neil Peart’s burning for Buddy where a plethora of drummers from different backgrounds and styles pay homage to buddy rich.
What's so sad,I hear nothing but amazement from those watching?
He had such groove & swing he implemented into his solos so easy to listen to like a Hemi engine syncopated but unpredictable
He had great swing- just like Charlie Watts.
At 1:23 you will in fact see that Bonzo is human
Really remembering me when I was child.. also cassette and tape deck.
And before that, even before FM radio. I remember that. But, Bono... I have a number of "best performances" and "favorite drummers". But Bono owned a stratosphere of his own. Earned it. Year after year after year. Performance after performance. Song tempo and style after another. He is the epic master of drums on Earth.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE John Bohnam
But 17 minutes????? Damn!
He could literally throw out any combo of hand foot pattern at any speed at any given second at his whim
Long live the king !!!
Led zeppelin no pudo seguir sin john bonham ,,,,, es que no hay sustituto en esta tierra ,,,,era unico ,,,,, rip bonzo
I wish I was that drum set
The man l love him and his son John Henry bonham was the best drummer ever till this day l myself is a drummer l practice a lot of his
Music Play zep music no one do this John was a puff bet drummer- if it's news to u ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amo la batteria come strumento, perché rullare su quei tamburi e piatti e qualcosa che in pochi né hanno la capacità di farla cantare"". Lui è stato capace come accompagnatore nei concerti.👍👍👍🖐️👏👏👏👏
when I was a kid I used to think he was possessed while doing this he was so good it was like a out of world experience lol
I'm gonna learn this on my air drum kit
😂😂😂😂😂
Me too
One of the greatest however Buddy Rich was a complete beast. Oh and by the way do your homework and you'll find out John Bonham NEVER played under the influence because he was afraid of what the critics would say. Mad respect!!
Bonham is the best drummer of all time and Jimmi Hendrix is the best guitarist of all time hands down
Don’t give me wrong John is a great drummer and one of the best but I don’t think he is the best. Neil Peart, Danny Carey and Joey jordison are the best IMO
@MW carey can play anything bonham and peart could, id love for argument sake to watch either of them play everything he could. all are good, well all are great, but ya gotta remember that their rating as goats is partially due to popularity of their bands in their times
what about wee ian paice
@@bodielancaster7952 Bonham is great, but Neil Peart is the best!
Peart, Bonham, Copeland, Jordison, Starr
Still #1 in 2024 !!! Words anyone ?
1# The Rev
2# Bonzo
3# Joey
4# Terry Bozio
So locked in, just goin for it
Genialidade e monstruoso. O que admiro nele é a pegada o som é forte, as notas nítidas, são claras, objetivas todas com mesma intensidade
Sim um dos grandes tinha muito gás.. está no patamar dos grandes bateristas de jazz.
Amazinggggggg!
I’ve Never in all my life this Guy was the Bruce Lee of Drums wow 10 or of 10
Holy. Fucking. Shit! WOW!!!
Keep it Up Man!! Thank You!!
The most outrageous drumming ever,,I mean ever! I read an article
On who influenced his skill, which I figured was buddy rich, whom I regard as the second best drummer ever, but to my surprise was Krupa.
Not a shabby drummer at all. These guys I new before rock., which made sense giving the ages of the three.
I've had the gift to see him do this.
No slight to the second tier,,baker, moon, Perth and so on.
He bested every one with his energy and stamina. His foot work is second to none, not to mention his bare hands!
I don't feel bad that people like him die young because of the of the body of work and all the life they lived.
Oh yah, I'll never forget hearing when he died. I dropped my tools and cried for days. Zep died that day to 🥺
Neil learned from John. I saw them in 71. I was thirty ft away. Been a drummer for 50 years.
Neil still blows my mind no matter how many times I watch his solos
Neil Peart was mesmerizing..
Actually..Neil Peart's idol and who influenced him was not John Bonham but Gene Krupta..
In Bonzos world this would be a short solo... he used to do solos for like over 30 mins. He would literally groove on the same snare roll rudiment for like 17 minutes with his hi hat ching-ring bouncing. Only he could get away with something like that lol.
I play drums. I, watched him a lot and Led Zeppelin. 🥁
Legend
Man ele era preenchia bem demais os tempos slc
Love how quickly he recovers from the dropping the stick at 1:22
Genius Drummers do not live long. Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell etc. Thanks All. R.I.P.
Keith Moon was boring. Neil Peart and Gene Krupta was the best..
Pay attention kids, this is when they had to work for it.
I regret nothing and what I do regret I can’t do anything about because it was on my parents doing I wish I would have been able to see John and queen live that’s all I wish for is to seE those bands with the original members not the queen they have now it’s not the same without freddie and not zepp now I need me some bonzo
Dude that groove at 7:06 is one of my favs by him. That’s what made this man so great at what he did. Don’t do drugs folks. It never leads to anything good. It’s a shame he had to die so young.
he wouldn’t have been as awesome on the drums if he wasn’t doing drugs
@@bdot11 that’s a the biggest crock of bull and lie I have ever heard about making music. When bohnam was drunk playing it always effected his playing in a negative way. Same with jimmy page. The man was sloppy is all could be. Drugs do not enhance your playing. Maybe some kind of hyper drug but alcohol or cocaine etc…come on man.
It was vodka that killed him
Don't drink too much vodka, especially if you're a back sleeper, especially without someone to roll you on your stomach. I used to drink a lot, I thank God I'm a side sleeper. Amen.
Look see, even the best drop their sticks once in a while, like the very best, like the best fucking drummer ever, like a drumming god from drum heaven descended upon man, whose drumming inspired Chuck Norris martial arts style, who played the tambourine on the battle of evermore...every now and then..wait, what was I talking about?
Neil Peart..best ever..hands down..
John Bonham 1
