Boccherini and string quintet is quite an obvious association as he's the first to use this kind of ensemble. However the variations using flute or guitar are also pleasant as your choice shows. To me Boccherini is sort of italian brother of Pleyel (who btw was his editor): similar view of music as pure joy and little or no drama, fluidity and generosity of melodic invention in a traditional harmonic environment. Funny, someone said he wrote as Haydn wife would do .... Don't remember who said that. It was sarcastic sentence but actually it's not an insult but a good way to depict style of a kind, gentle person who wrote joyful things despite his life has been not that easy.....
Thanks for the comment and appreciation. About 6-7 years ago I listened for the first time to 'Las parejas' on a Hyperion recording. It was a 'revelation' (?!) for me, although I'm not a fan of the flute and chamber music. I've been waiting all these years for another record to come out. Today I found it, the albums are released this year; I bought online the two quintets and I find that I still like this music. 'Pleyel's Italian brother' gives me a very good mood! :) Thank you again!
