  • Yes, I am losing my shop. Nothing to worry about though. That is the bad news. The good news is that I found another place for my foamily that can accommodate the Rusty Beauties as well. We just need to go through moving and saddling down again... In the middle of the winter... again... But I am sure it is for better.
Another good news (for me) is that I created a Patreon page (bad news for you LOL) But again, nothing to worry about. You can chose to support me by simply donating 5, 10 or 20 dollars US a month or... (another good news for you) You can choose to keep watching for free without losing any access to any of my content. Only in case you feel like supporting me you can become a Patron, but that is not going to give you any benefits that the people who do not become patrons don't have. It is simply a way to say "Thank you!" for the effort I put in creating these videos.
If you chose to become a patron, please visit my page here www.patreon.com/rustybeauties
If you chose to stay and watch for free, I will still appreciate you! You still help me make some small revenue from the ads in the videos and you still have full access to my content, just like the people who chose to become patrons. I am still very thankful!

Sorry to hear this, Elin. I really hope that this new place works out well, and I sincerely hope that you can turn things around financially and own property of your own soon. I'm honestly surprised that you've only been in Canada for 9 years. For what it's worth, from an American perspective (and not even a Triumph guy!) I think you're an admirable model of what it means to be a Canadian. Helpful, friendly, and inspiring. (and your english is extremely good) People need to appreciate all the work it takes to produce all of these videos. I am more more than willing to kick in a few bucks via patreon!

Elin, sorry to hear of your change in circumstances. Glad that you will be able to carry on. Your financial situation is very unfortunate. You were very brave to uproot your life and move to a new country, I am sure that you did this at great personal sacrifice, to offer a better future for you child, this is very commendable.

Hi Elin I watch your videos and Chef Tush videos too not because of the Triumphs but because they’re genuinely good and you’re both good and generous folks. In many of your guy’s videos I wish I was there to help and lend a hand! You’re videos are like hanging with your friends and working on our cars together! Life sucks sometimes and we have to achieve that balance of what we need to do to survive and what we enjoy! You obviously know this and my hat is off to you! I’ll continue to watch your entire videos and help out where I can! Cheers🍺

Just heard and just signed onto Patreon. The news here in the USA is that companies can't find skilled workers, especially welders, like yourself. I am restoring a 1966 Spitfire and your videos are invaluable, not just because of the technical content, but because you give me hope that in a throw away world of plastic and flash there are still "men of substance" like you, out there. Късмет!

Elin, please count me in, you are such a nice, decent, articulate and admirable guy, your videos are precious, especially during lockdown etc - you deserve a big chunk of luck coming your way, I am not a Triumph enthusiast, there are virtually none over here in Cyprus, but if I find one, I would refurbish it because of the confidence your videos give. Chin up Elin because brighter times are deserved to you, kindest regards, Paul

Elin, I look forward to each of you videos even though you've gone down the Spitfire road while I'm still on the TR6 road, most of what you do is very applicable to my needs. But fulfilling my needs is only is only part of why I watch your videos, I feel like you are my neighborhood friend that knows how to restore TR6s and is willing to share your knowledge for a couple of beers. I return to your older videos time after time to review how to perform that troublesome next step.
I,m sorry to hear about your troubles but knowing about your resourcefulness and tenacity I'm confident that you'll be turning those lemons into lemonade very soon. See you on Patreon!

You're the reason I've been employed since 2017. I use the things you taught me on a daily basis. Needless to say I owe you a lot. I look forward to paying off my debt and helping you in these tough times. We don’t want or need special goodies to help out someone who has given more entertainment and educational content than most anyone else. I love and respect your integrity and that you will continue to do what you enjoy doing over selling out. Even the max patreon amount is not a lot of money but I hope every little bit helps. Hello Elin,
In the USA some land owners are willing to offer Owner Financing, sometimes called Contract for Deed, the owners gets a long term income at reasonable interest rate.
There is not much risk for the seller, Buyer has the risks if defaults. Perhaps you can find a property with these conditions. If you build a repair business with a competitive profit income, it would help your cause.
    Cheers to you
    I enjoy your videos !

You are a very intelligent and courageous man, I am surprised for the few like I see under your videos. But I remember well that after 3 years and having completely restored my tr4a bodywork, engine chassis etc... I met other classic owners during a meeting, I hoped that they would talk to me about their restoration, tricks they found but nada! the majority of these people go to the mechanic (a good thing for you) but they have no interest in mechanics, technology owning a classic car is all they want.

Another option for your shop / home is to look for something smaller on a decent piece of land and add on. Eighteen years ago I wanted to get my family out of our little 2 bedroom apartment where we'd been for a decade. I couldn't afford a house so I bought a piece of land. I drew up my own plans, got them approved and built it myself. It's not easy but the kids and new wife did help. Consider it as an option. My only caution is to get a Carpenter to look at it so that you know what your getting into. Thank you for setting up your Patreon Account. I look at it as a subscription for the information and entertainment of your videos. Even though I'm working on a '74 Alfa Spider your techniques are helpful. Who knows, someday I might take on a Triumph TR6 / GT6.

    • @RustyBeauties

I did that once. In Bulgaria. I bought a piece of land and I built my own house. Unfortunately the situation in Bulgaria was not great and after living in the house for just 3 years I moved to Canada. After 3 more years I realized that I am not going back and I sold the house. However after paying mortgage for 6 years instead of getting some money back after the sale I had to pay even more to the bank to cover the balance of the mortgage..... That is how much banks love me :)
It is a great idea and I'd love to do it here, but it is again something that I need money from the bank for.

You’re fighting the good fight and that is already the measure of success. It is hard to accept that you might have many talents but making enough money isn’t one of them. However, it will work! You know that you can achieve many things and there is nothing wrong with wanting a home. Stay focused and you’ll figure it all out. Also, you are limited by Triumph content but great channels gain subs. And you have a great channel.

Elin I am so impressed with your videos! You are awesome and inspire me. Your video teaching style is both patient and funny and you really do a great job of "teaching" us how to fix our old LBC Triumphs. A sincere Thanks.
I bought a rusty beauty TR6 and it had both frame and body issues. I built the wooden rotisserie from your plans and added "slide on/off " moving dollies on the bottom of each arm. This way I could turn the Tub over and put the dollies on the opposite side and then easily move the body tub around. What a great idea the wooden rotisserie is and so easy to make with the plans you provided.
I also made the Frame Jig that you invented and it worked GREAT. I installed both Trailing arms and the jig worked like a charm...but I needed to watch your frame repair video multiple times. I am now moving on to the body tub, rocker sills, B post and floor pans...before I get to the fenders, doors etc. But I am enjoying myself and it is a great hobby. I am going to email you and will send you a check to help out. I know you will come out of this challenge stronger and better than ever...you are too talented not to.

As RUclips is an international thing, not all folk will speak a common language. I find your videos both entertaining and informative. I have felt my way around the internal combustion engine since I was a teenager, many years ago. There was no internet, the only advice was from the local garage and friends who had followed the path I was following. Home welding was not even thought of, so many cars just rusted away until the MOT inspector called it a day. These days, if you don't know something, there is always someone who does. Do not change anything you do and thank you for being there.

Elin I must say that was one of the most honest speech I’ve heard in a long time. You are a very talented mechanic regarding all aspects of restoration of the Triumphs. I can tell you this if you were in the US I know a couple of garages that would love to have your talent your expertise and your personality to help them out because they don’t have enough people to service what comes in. They are always a 5 to 6 weeks out and getting your car in. When ChefTush call‘s on you to help him out that speaks volume he is good but you are better and knowledge with other things. Not because I knew what I was doing - at first-but because I learned from watching you two. I rebuilt my engine after watching you-In fact- I rebuilt almost everything. BTW the engine and car runs great! Thank you! My 2nd gear grinds a bit so looking for instructions on that😎.

Thank you for your videos. I only recently found your channel and I am not really a Triumph person, but more MG's , but the content of your video's is universal. You are also a likeable guy and always positive. You can just do it, and it works. It is inspiring.
I would like to know more about the tools you are using to get the results you are producing. Panel shaping, welding preferences, grinding discs, clicos, clamps, magnets etc.
Also many people are interested in applying paint , what size compressor is needed, how about the spray gun you use ? Temperatures, mixing.
I know video editing is very time consuming, but you have so many skills to teach ( and your preferences on tools) . It is all interesting things , not specifically about Triumph. You can create a huge library of information on these topics and if it is easier, make the videos shorter.
You have amazing skills, your luck will improve, I know it.

Elin, I just subscribed to your channel not because of the kid game's videos, but because I love Triumphs specially the TR6. I had a 1971 I bought and enjoyed a lot when I was about 20-24 years old, and at that time I wanted to do a restoration on it like the ones you do here in your channel. I bought a lot of part$ for it and had almost everything needed except for time, space and know how. I'm good with learning about everything so the things that I did mechanically were perfect, but I never got into welding or body work (still in that process lol). Long story short, divorce came my way and had to sell it for very cheap with all parts included (hope the guy put it together if he had everything needed) none the less, I also got in trouble with the banks as they made it super easy to borrow money, I think because they DO count in the interest they'll make in the short period, even if they know that chances of defaulting on these types of loans are pretty high. So your story pretty much hits home and I wanted to let you know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, stay close to your money and rebuild that part of your life. Now I enjoy a great home once again, with a new wife and a son. Life has many season and none stay for ever. I will keep watching your TR6 restorations and wish you good luck in all future endeavors.

I’m so sorry to hear your bad news. When one door closes another opens, so I’m sure you will find somewhere even better. It’s good that you have your job still, so getting another lease will be easy enough. Try to get a letter of recommendation from your current Landlord if you can, that will help. Commiserations, and I’m more than happy to help via Patreon.

Elin I can understand and appreciate everything you said in this video. I too immigrated, but in my case I was actually 5 years. My parents did the hard work and they gave me the opportunity for success. The triumph community is a small one you like Tush are a big part of it for me. Your videos have tremendous value to me and I’m sure too many others. I’m glad you have chosen to use patreon to help offset the time and effort you put;into your channel. Like you we work on these cars because we love them. I’m in and happy to support you on patreon. I suggest that on all future video you mention at some point end maybe that people can support the channel via patreon. I see that on other channels all the time. I’m in and will gladly support you on patreon and suggest all others that love triumphs do the same.

As you can see by the comments, you are not alone! I enjoy your sense of humor and the type of person you are as much as the knowledge and skills from which I learn. My son is photographer and spends 10 hours editing for every hour shooting, so I understand. You probably have already thought of this but consider talking to your landlord about “rent to own “ possibly, where he acts as the bank. Never give up!

Please keep going Elin. Never give up. You have the abundance of skills to succeed. I would say that the triumph stuff should continue but.......but, it should not consume no more than 20% of your time. The remainder should be the popular stuff that US/ Canadians want as you alluded to. Take on the sponsorship, it won' be forever and will pay. I certainly don't mind the plugs for some good and the ads have never bothered me. Providing for your family and future are paramount, Triumphs will always be around, especially with people like you but they must not become all consuming. Thanks for all the advice and instruction, patience and skill your but most of all your time.

I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles Elin. I love your channel, including the none-Triumph videos (although I'm not keen on the motor racing seat for your son). I even thought fixing a Jeep might be fun having watched your series (and I've never wanted a 4x4, SUV or anything like that). It is your channel that made me finally dive in and try restoring my own car. More importantly, I would also watch you working on other vehicles. I suspect most (90%) of your views are 45+. You might find the Miata introduces younger views because it is more in their 'classic' age and I suspect the parts are cheaper so more in their wallet range.

Hi Elin; gee I am so sad to hear that you have lost your shop and have to step back and reform in your new place. I will continue to subscribe and faithfully follow your page and learn from you. No, I at my age, will never restore a "rusty beauty" but through your hands I can do that. I have stood in your shoes and had to restart my life in 1988, with little more than$110 and 2 suitcases. It is a hard battle, but with tenacity, devotion and determination, you can come out the other side proudly and with your head up. I hope that you get your own shop and property, in the near future, so that I can spend the rest of my borrowed time, enjoying your skills. Keep smiling, cobber and love your work, your ethics and your good nature.

Elin ..... I watched your video at around 2/3am in the middle of the night.
I can't tell you how vicariously upset I am at your situation ..... I've been thinking about your predicament all day ..... words fail me.
To be honest, I have three You Tube channels that I actively look forward to watching having spent most of my adult life in and around Triumphs ..... I can't tell You how many I have worked on for customers and owned myself over the last 40 years .... when it's in your blood ... it's in your blood.
Funnily or enough .... all three of my favourite YT channels are Canadian .... obviously yours, 'Cheftush' and Curiosity Inc.
I totally sympathise and understand and empathise with the situation you are in ..... it's wretched.
Everything you said resonates with me ...... just know ..... there is a core group of us that absolutely love what you do, and hence ..... please keep your chin up and ... keep on keepin' on.
Keep well buddy ..... man hugs ..... kindest positive wishes ..... Steve 🇨🇦🇬🇧

Last year I got a gt6 to restore and in research of where to begin I found your page. From you I've learned how to weld, how to rebuild an engine, how these things go together correctly and all sorts of other amazing skills. Since then I've been devouring your videos and the rampage continues. I really appreciate your approach, your calm and inquisitive nature, your attention to detail, your technical mind, and your talent for being able to explain/teach clearly. I'll be subscribing to your patreon for sure, but might need to wait till the first of the year.
I have a few ideas that might help boost your views (I'm self employed and though I thoroughly dislike marketing I've learned a few tricks). The first is meta tags and titles. For your Triumph videos you can also tag MG, welding, other triumph models, anything you can think of to get further reach. With titles, it might help to use more words that will trigger search results for similar searches, also a breakdown of what happens in each video in the description. Also, shorter videos of how to do a specific surgery on a car. I couldn't find anywhere how to install a new soft top on my spitfire, installed it the best I knew how, then a couple of weeks later saw a video of you installing one on a tr6 answering all the questions I had. How to videos in general about your skills that just happen to be on these great cars might reach a large audience, I wouldn't have known about your fabrication skills and learned from you had I not been working on the same car as you. Also, how things work on these cars. I watched all sorts of videos trying to figure out if I needed to use the clutch to engage overdrive.
You're on a great path and your work is greatly appreciated. You have much to share that people want to learn, most of them just haven't found you yet.

Elin, I’ve been subscribed to you and Midwest Motoring since I’ve started looking for a T4 project car to restore once my Volvo 1800 is finished. Very much enjoy you sharing your experiences and find the mechanical similarities between the Triumph and Volvo a comforting coincidence. I will be looking forward to your work on the Type A overdrive having just finished rebuilding my Volvo transmission and replacing the O rings on the Type D. If you need some of the 1/4” lock tabs for the bridges let me know, I just bought a bag of fifty of them and can pop some in the post from Vancouver.

As someone else mentioned, for those of us scared of commitment I think you can set up a feature where we can make a donation/buy you a beer when you've helped out with something. Hi Elin, I was extremely saddened by your news and clearly you are very low at this time. If I may be so bold as to give you my thoughts I will say this. Yes, I like the Triumphs but that it not what attracted me to watch you a few years ago, it was the determination and skill you showed when FIXING things up, men like fixing things. From a sales and marketing perspective your channel is called Rusty Beauties, not rusty Triumphs so you have the latitude to move into areas that are not niche like the Miata, or dare I say it some muscle cars for example. Being brutal for a moment, no matter how you have a passion for Triumphs you need to think of yourself as a shop and unless you stock the things the masses want to buy you will be a lonely shop keeper. I can tell you honestly I will never buy and fix up a Triumph but I watch **YOU**, yes **YOU** without fail. Even if you do some Triumph restoration just change the mix of work as we've seen the same car car model in different guises and colours fixed numerous times, RUclips is show business and you will never enjoy financial freedom being over proud about taking money from people. Tough love, I know, but I was genuinely moved by your news and hope you can find your way through this tough time.

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  2 года назад +1

Thanks Malcolm! Based on everyone's reaction to my video I think I presented the situation as a disaster, a little worse than it actually is. I am not desperate and I am not homeless. I have a full time job, and I am perfectly fine to support my family. This move might be even for better, because the house is better for my family and the garage is bigger as well. I was just a little bit in the mood that night, I fall that hole every once in a while trying to solve global problems :) It is disappointing sometimes when I am in a hard situation and I ask myself what am I doing wrong? Am I lazy? Do I not go to work everyday? Do I not work hard at nights and weekends too? Do I spend my days on the couch watching TV? No. So why can't I resurface? But again, this sounds worse than it is. I am lucky to have my family and my friend and my audience and I really appreciate all that. Many people are in a worse situation than me.
