The overall percentage of of Matched applicants who are IMGs is calculated using number of candidates who submitted the rank order list. This number is small and obviously the IMG rate will be high. If you calculate the same match rate using total number of IMG applicants including those who did not even have a single interview, the match rate will go down below 50 percent. But NRMP will never tell you that
Thank you so much for the data and all your awesome videos!! I wanted to ask if you could make a video about the separately ophthalmology process and the SFmatch platform and data 😁
Thank you so much for going through this and explaining it all. Could you please do a video on matching into psychiatry? It’s becoming more competitive for both IMGs and non-IMGs I think. I would really appreciate it if you could explain the situation going on
@@MalkeAsaad My bad, I meant to ask if you could explain more how the competitiveness changed over time (e.g. I'm hearing that some IMGs are doing Step 3 to boost their chances of matching now, so how bad is it really?)
The 68% match rate for non US IMGs are for those who made a tank order list. Unfortunately many people don't get interviews and don't have a a ROL. If you calculate the number of matched applicatnts to those that applied, the rate is around 45%
Hi Dr. Assad! ty for your video! I don't really understand why are they so many unfilled spots, does that mean that doctors willingly don't choose these spots at SOAP and rather wait for another year or can you make a video explaining about SOAP and what happens if you dont match?
Hi Asaad, With Table-2 along with matches in each category (like US IMG, NON-IMG, US Senior, US Grad etc), can you also show how many applications as well? thank you
You can see the total number of applicants in Table 1. For the number of applicants in each group, you need to look at charting outcomes for each group which is not released yet at the time of recording this video.
The reason Internal med and family med don't fill is because people don't apply to them, they are oftentimes a backup specialty. Look at how only 1400 USMD's went family med while 1500 DO's matched family med, even though DO's account for only about 20% of US students. internal med is higher for USMD's is becauses of the potential to go into specialties like GI and cardiology which make bookoo bucks
@Malke Asaad Is there a way to extrapolate the number of IMG Students who applied to Orthopaedic surgery? 4 IMGs + 8 US IMGs is not a lot, but I am also wondering what the applicant number is. Thanks!
What might be the reason why IMGs choose psychiatry less and less over the years? Other data suggests an increased demand among MDs and DOs but IMGs applying for psych has decreased by almost 30% over the years. Residency spots are rising either. Also, it's almost the same match rate for imgs applying to psych, which is around 7%.
It is because US graduates are favored more than IMGs in those fields. It’s the same analogy as nourishing your own first before giving something to strangers…
Thank you for sharing the data. This data seems showing the infilled position before SOAP. On NRPM(R3), the currently infilled positions are only 72. Do you think the data you showed take in to consideration the match data of SOAP?
The reason that spots go unfilled while IMGs dont match is simple. The IMGs werent offered an interview at the places that went unfilled. Also why are you shocked that the US prefers their own graduates and citizens in the match? like thats exactly how it should be and is in every other country no?
@@decodingcap9965 Hi I said this months ago. It was because of the limited seats and many applicants, but i withdraw this statement. I'm not scared any more. I have hope in JESUS, and HE won't fail me. HIS will will be done in my life! Hope on HIM too😊😊💕
Dr malke assad sir pls show us the process of obtaining green card through research and can you do it also since you have 100 research papers plsss sir plssss
Maybe because those applicants possibly applied to the same positions? The unfilled slots were probably for programs with little to no applicants. I could be wrong but that’s how I understood it

You need to wait until they release the file called charting outcomes for IMGs and they will have those numbers there
@@MalkeAsaad Thank you for your answer! Do you have any idea when this file will be released, approximately? Thanks in advance!

I agree. I think this is the data before SOAP. They have not release the numbers post SOAP.
Ok now I’m confused, how does a final year meds student get residency slot before even graduating?!
Yes, this is how it works in the US.
USIMG still in medical school, hoping to match into anesthesiology in the coming years, gonna have to apply to every single program given the data 💀
The reason that spots go unfilled while IMGs dont match is simple. The IMGs werent offered an interview at the places that went unfilled.

The spots are unfilled because they dont offer visa..non usimg majority matched is green card holder.without green card match percebtage is not showed
Great video!
Thank you!
As an IMG that want's to match into anesthesiology, my hopes have been shattered into a million pieces
Oh why is that ? Can you detail please.
