Great news! We've just been informed that the birds at the end of the video were rescued from an illegal bird trade and the ones that are healed do get released back into the wild! Of course, we'll still be doing the donation! ☺
Muy agradecido porque vengan, visiten y den buenos comentarios de Ecuador. Mil gracias!
Thank you for clarifying that. I was a bit dissapointed that you may have jumped to a conclusion. Thank you for finding out and reporting that. Now I can suscribe LOL
Oh and I am enjoying all your videos. I am in Cuenca and you are giving me great ideas.
@@jpsmusicandmore5457😮woooo that's so great 😊
I so want to go to the Amazon. I adopted a tri pof dog and am going to get someone to sit with her. I also want to go see a Sloth. I went to the zoo in Cuenca which is an advenure but did not see the sloths
"Locro de papa" La mejor sopa del continente echa con papa, según Taste Atlas y los Ecuatorianos la amamos.
yum!
Naranjilla Juice 😁😁😁
yum!
Just a note referring to the zoo bit, in Ecuador zoos usually have native species that have been hurt by poachers or are sick, in the zoos we try to rehabilitate them of just give them a permanent home.
Love this! Thanks for letting us know ❤️
Ohhh I can't wait to get to Ecuador! It's on our bucket list! We will definitely use your videos as a guide!
Woooo! Yes! You guys have to go!
I used to eat dulce the Higo with Ecuadorian cheese (Quesillo). I am Ecuadorian, my mom used to give that when I was a kid. You guys reminded me of that 😊
😊 that's so cool! Glad we could remind you of something so sweet!
Hi! Btw the figs are normally eaten with queso fresco which is slightly salty so it balances with the sweetness of the fig
This makes so much sense 😄 I wish we knew!!
Yep
😊
La gastronomía de Ecuador es muy deliciosa... saludos desde Madrid
It really is!
What is in the museum complex is not a zoo, it is a refuge for birds that are recovering to be reinserted into their habitat, some of which can no longer fly and will stay there.
Hi there! Yes we've since learned that they take in birds from harmful situations and people wanting to traffic them! How good is that!
I know this video is primarily about food but THERE WAS A MAN WALKING WITH A CAT ON HIS SHOULDER!!! I love it.
Haha 😆 wasn't it crazy!? Definitely highlight of our time in Cuenca!
Hi Jordan and Emily, thanks for this video about Cuenca Ecuador. It is so interesting to see how the architecture is so different around the world. Must say they have a lot of detail and everything is so colorful. Glad that you showed the fluffy Meringue that looked like Ice-cream. Just looking at it on video you could sure trick someone that it was a mound of Ice-cream. The different ways that food in prepared is a great education by itself when traveling the world.
Agreed! We're glad you liked it 😊
Cuenca es lo mas bello del mundo
It's a super nice city!
Naranjilla juice is my favorite 😋
So delicious!
You missed pan de yuca. My favorite thing. Little rolls of yuca flour and cheese, served warm. Cuencanos eat them with a yoghurt drink. So good!
Woah, that sounds so interesting and good 😄 why didn't thay show up in our research!! 😞
Thanks enjoy all the best of 🇪🇨
Thank you! 😊
I really enjoyed this video. I no longer live in Cuenca and I miss all the food you enjoyed.
Thanks for watching! Hope we gave you a little taste of home! 😊
Production quality of these videos is really top notch.
You were quite good when you started. And now you've definitely leveled up.
Thanks so much! That's so good to hear 😀 good to know some of the extra effort is worth it!
Love Ecuadorian food, especially the Shrimp Ceviche is unique, I will comeback for the onion, albacore Soup Is Awesome 🙏👌🇪🇨🌎
thanks for the tips!
such a cool episode guys, glad you're doing well! love how you also included a bit of history, great job😍
safe travels, sending love from Europe 💛
Thanks so much 😊 ❤️
Welcome to colombia
Thanks!
Thank you guys for your honest feedback.
Thanks for watching 😀 😊
Enjoy watching. Great video!
Thanks Suay! 😊
I think you sat at the same table I sat at when I had my first Locra de papa soup. Nice view huh.
Such a good view! And great place to eat ! 😋
Güitig sparkling water comes up from a natural fountain in Machachi village, near Quito, and near the Cotopaxi volcano.
The original owners, three women, sold the enterprise to Tesalia Springs Co, the actual owner.
This water is pure gold.
That's so cool! It really really is. Best water we've ever had!!
Las orejas y mil hojas solo son acompañantes para el cafecito de la tarde.
Thiiiiiisss would have been good to know at the time 😄
Glad you enjoyed your trip to Cuenca. I lived there for a number of years. Never had the street meringue cream bc I would rather have rich galato for $1 more. Hate you missed encebellado (fish stew) - there's a good place in Cuenca although the coast is known for it. And yes, the sparkling water is the BEST - also great for digestion and altitude sickness.
We miss the sparkling water so much, definitely the best in the world! Wish we tried the rich Gelato! 😪
Hi guys… a really nice video… a recommendation, you should try de food in the mercados… it’s way better and cheaper than in restaurants …
Even better than the Locro De Papas!? Maannn we need to get there 😄
Thoroughly enjoyed this video! The two of you make a great team and your videos are well edited and thought out. I’m visiting Cuenca for the 2nd time this coming March and I’m so excited. Definitely will be trying the locro de papa at that same restaurant you guys did. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Thank you so much!
Amazing! You’ll have to let us know how you like it - the view is hard to beat 😍
El postre completo usualmente son 1 o 2 higos con queso de hoja. Es un postre tipico muy antiguo!
Guys you had a typo error in the beginning of the video. You have ‘Cuenca, Peru’ instead of Cuenca, Ecuador 😢
Oh no!! We had just crossed to Peru when we made the video 😄 silly mistake!
@@JordanandEmilyLove your videos guys ! Istanbul is my favorite video so far. Made me booked a trip there in October 🇹🇷
The " dulce de Higos" is usually served with a piece of cheese to balance the sweetness of the desert. It's also consumed inside a bread (like a sandwich) with cheese. well.
That makes a lot of sense!
I would have liked you guys to go to AMARU Zoo, there are modest animals there and the entrance is a little expensive but it is for the treatment of rescued animals.
oh that's good to know! thank you!
You ate a family portion of dulce de higo, and you need the cheese as someone else pointed out.
we could only have a bite each before it was too sweet! 😅
Hahaha go big or go home!
@@JordanandEmily While I jus eat it sparingly. It was my grandfather favorite dessert. Once he ate 120 of them (while preparing a big lot to eat with his family and share with the neighbours he was "tasting" if they were good but ended eating 120)
loved this! You should’ve tried dulce de higo with cheese (queso fresco). The saltiness and freshness of the cheese cuts through the sweetness of the syrup. It’s really good 😊
It's a great excuse to get back to Ecuadro one day 😄 we need to do dulce de higo properly!
You need a tea or coffee with your dessert pastries. Great video
Definitely! That would have helped a lot 😄
And a big slice of fresh cheese with that figs dessert.
No pueden irse sin comer el verdadero plato tipico de Cuenca! El HORNADO!!!
Haha we'll have to come back!!
Nice video. The "Dulce de Higo" which is a sweet figs, has to be eaten with cheese to become delicius.
We really wish we knew that when we were there 😄 definitely need to try it that way soon!
Great video you guys, you did good crossing off your list. The juice you got perhaps the orange/tomato fruit you were thinking of, was it a blood orange? Glad the birds were rescued & have a safe place to rehabilitate. Miss you both, love you, mum.xx ❤️
I have no idea haha
Yes so good to hear they are looked after
Love you miss you
I like some things about Cuenca! But the food looks marginally good. 😌
Some were great haha some not so much!
Peru is nearby! 😁
Tigrillo is with green plantains and mote pillo with Hominy that basically is corn, but not straight off the cob. Hominy is whole kernels of dried field corn (aka maize) that have been nixtamalized, a process that cooks have been doing since ancient times lol
Ooohhh this makes a lot of sense 😄 thank you!!
15:40 the people eats this figs whit Chess because it's very sweet 😅
😄 wish we tried that!!
Yummy ! Hope the birds are there to get well…
We hope so too!!
They are in recovery.
The igos you eat it with cheese, the birds are from different places and stay there to recover and then are realice or if there to sick they stayed there.
Thats such good news!
I believe that “ice cream” is actually egg whites that are whipped
whatever it was it was so good 🤤
@@JordanandEmily they are suppose to be good. My wife loves them. Of course she does, she is from Ecuador.
I will try it when I go for my 3rd time there
yes!! its a pure sugar hit - whats not to love 😂
Humitas, gets along with a coup of hot black coffee.
Delicious!
you must try the real an original cevche... its called ceviche jipijapa
damn - we missed that!
Hi, the figs you’re supposed to eat with cheese. That balances out the sweetness and it becomes delicious. Try it with cheese.
Oh wow, that makes so much sense 😄 we'll have to get them again!
Gotta say, really nice intro and awesome food tour but it hurt me deeply that encebollado was not on that list. If you’re ever in Ecuador again and happen to be on the coast then you definitely have to try the encebollado, it ranked as the second best soup in the world on TasteAtlas a month or two ago, not to mention it’s just the ultimate dish. 💯
okay had to google what encebollado was and WOW I'm so sad we missed it!
@@JordanandEmily I feel your pain. Hopefully you can try it some other time!
I believe it is queso criollo!
Ooohhhh!!!
I love ❤️ Ecuadorian food omg cascaritas in Cuenca it’s a dream come true 😅👌hornado spectacular , chicharron all of this meals have to be combine with that onion salad 🥗 with lettuce tomatoes and obviusly the (aji) the “hot sauce” that it’s not spicy 👌 and soups 🍲 from 🇪🇨 uff ❤I’m addicted that locro de papa that you ate in the video it’s exquisite 👌 my favorite soup it’s caldo de bola de verde 🍲 locro de acelgas ❤ lentils soup I also like seco de pollo it’s a stew 🥘 yummy 🥑 mmm if you are going to try bolon de verde it’s have to be combine with a super hot coffee ☕️ 😅 and also like cheese sauce 🫕 or a stew because then it’s going to be to dry or add tons butter 🧈 sorry I hope you understand my English it’s bad lol 😝✌️ also try sanduche de chancho 👌👌but the best one are in Guayaquil mmm also cebiches de la rumiñahui try the ceviche de camaron the only one that I love and also conchas negras asadas with cassava sticks (deditos de yuca) no fish there it’s bad 👎🏻 😅 mmm and the best drink Avena POLACA it’s spectacular but hard to find 😢lol usually in the streets or in popular bakery’s
Haha woah thanks for this! We love receiving recommendations for what to eat on our travels! It's funny that you mentioned to hot sauce that isn't hot, we experienced that all Over! It was so hard to find a spicy hot sauce!
Hey guys, here is a tip... next time if you want try the dulce de higo, but with cheese!
Ooh is it a particular type of cheese?
Así Ecuador
😊 🇪🇨
great video,..the reason the pastries are dry are cause they keep selling you tourists the old ones...lol...
😄 cheeky
Well... yep... that's not milhojas, that's just an aplanchado 😅
oh gosh, whoops!! Thanks for letting us know
Eat dulce de higo with bread a cheese, it's how Ecuadorians eat it.
Damn, really wish we tried it the proper way 😄
Glad to hear the birds are not there as amusement and are being genuinely looked after it’s one of my great hates when travelling to see animals in cages unless like you said they are being cared for.
completely agree! So nice to know they are being rehabilitated ❤️
@kaybrisvegas1099, I'm Ecuadorian. They release the birds once they're well. There are times, unfortunately, that they can't be released. 😢
Saludos amigos si quieres comer rico pero muy rico de verdad vengan a la ciudad de Guayaquil ,,,,i otras ciudades costeras hay van a disfrutar de gastronomia de delicias del mar sobretodo i manglares exitos ...
Thank you!!
Mejor asesoría la proxima vez!

Thebhigi you have to eat ot with cheese otherwise it is too sweet
Thanks for the tip!

Really!? Wait. How are Humitas supposed to be heated? 😄 🤣
No vayan a guayaquil, salvense
hahah we missed Guayaquil! hope we didn't miss anything?
@@JordanandEmily solo bromeo pero guayaquil sí es bonito y tiene buena comida, lastimosamente esta peligrosa la ciudad ahora, quizas en otra ocación la puedan visitar
Birds in Pumapungo are rescued and most of them can't be put in liberty again because they has lost their instict to catch... don`t critizice what you can`t understand, inform yourself a little bit before making your videos and saying your opinons, be more respectful, don't be dumb.
Hey there! Read the multiple comments as and the pinned comment before you comment yourself 😄
No, at one point, while trashing Ecuador, you mentioned it “might be a possibility” that they were rehabbing the birds, but followed it up by saying you didn’t think so.
Again, shame on you for spreading hate and lies.
Sorry for making a mistake - we didn’t see any signs at the facility to point out this fact.
The only thing we can find stating this (in English) is a trip advisor comment! Do you have a website or anything we can post the url for everyone to see this great info?
Thank you for advising us. It is ultimately great news that the birds are being looked after and rehabilitated.
@@JordanandEmilyyou bet! Here’s a really nice article in English.
onehealth47.blogspot.com/2013/11/pumapungo-aviary.html?m=1
Just so you know, when Jordan replied “I don’t think so” he was replying to Emily’s comment that the birds could possibly have some sort of disease not to the rehabilitation comment. When you don’t speak the language of the country you’re visiting & there’s no sign in English to let you know what is what, of course you’re going to guess as to what is going on. I know for a fact that they both do a lot of research before they go out exploring, this museum & the birds were unexpected as they thought they were just seeing the ruins, they certainly weren’t being disrespectful to the locals or Ecuador. Perhaps you should rewatch the video!
@@juliannedean537or, and bear with me here, it’s a difficult concept, they could have spent 30 seconds to google it. Or, they could remove the section from the video. Or, they could add add some subtitles explaining that the birds are rescued.
But hey, they get clicks and money for this….
Let’s be clear: there are some great initiatives in Ecuador to save animals but in general animals aren’t treated well in Ecuador. Just look at all the stray dogs and how they are treated. Btw, how Ecuadorians treat each other isn’t an example for the rest of the world either.
I’m very upset about this video. You provided false, inflammatory information. The birds at Pumapongo are all seized from the illegal bird trade. The ones that can be healed and released are released. Only the ones that are too sick or damaged stay there. It is classified as a bird rescue and sanctuary.
If you are going to go to other countries, do even the smallest amount of research before you start trashing that county.
I’m appalled at your behavior, and you owe the people of Ecuador an apology. Better yet, ask for donations to the bird sanctuary to try to help some of the damage you did. Just…wow.
Oh that's great news! Glad they are being healed, which was one of the things we said was a possibility in the video!
Maybe it isn't obvious to everyone but I know for me as a viewer that it seemed clear they were only sharing their opinions and not facts. I definitely didn't come away from watching thinking "what a horrible place" but more "I hope those birds are there for the right reasons". At the end of the day we all just want to see animals happy and healthy so that is a GOOD thing.
HOLA JORDAN. BUEN VÍDEO SOBRE ECUADOR.. FELICITACIONES!
😊 thanks so much! 👋
